Request for massmessage sender

Resolved.

Hi, can I be added to massmessage senders group? It would be useful as sysop of pt:Wikipedia to warn the other ones of the block discussions. Thanks. Eduardofeld (talk) 04:40, 3 April 2015 (UTC)

Not done, this is not the purpose of Massmessage sender bits.--AldNonymousBicara? 07:13, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
@Eduardofeld: Have you tried pt:Special:MassMessage already? Vogone (talk) 10:09, 3 April 2015 (UTC)

--Giselle Bordoy WMAR (talk) 19:11, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

There's no existing banner by the name of "WMAR Encuesta Voluntarios" to base from. -- KTC (talk) 14:54, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
The eswiki page doesn't exist either and today is April 7th, two days past what you've written. Glaisher (talk) 15:22, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

Thanks a lot, --Giselle Bordoy WMAR (talk) 15:02, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

Done: a bit of advance notice next time wouldn't hurt. Set to start in 2 mins, but CentralNotice/Calendar suggest you want it from tomorrow, which is it? ;) -- KTC (talk) 15:58, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

Request for CentralNotice banner (3)

Hi all! I would some help to create a CentralNotice banner for our sourvey https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Encuesta_Voluntarios_Argentina planned by Wikimedia Argentina. The banner should be based on the design available here.

We want to try one different campaigns:

  • Campaign 1:
    • link: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Encuesta_Voluntarios_Argentina <- This is a new link!
    • from April 9th to May 9th, 2015.
    • logged-in and anonymous users.
    • only in Argentina, only in Spanish projects.
    • text1: ¿Eres usuario o editor de Wikipedia? ¡En Wikimedia Argentina queremos conocerte!
    • text2: ¡Completá nuestra encuesta y ayudamos a que cada vez más personas tengan acceso al conocimiento!

--Giselle Bordoy WMAR (talk) 15:05, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

@Giselle Bordoy WMAR: ¿Estáis seguros de que la página ha de estar en el espacio de nombres principal? Generalmente esto suele ir en el espacio de nombres Wikipedia. Un saludo. -- M\A 18:12, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
-- M\A 22:08, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
@Jalexander-WMF: When CentralNotices do ask you for replying a questionare hosted outside Wikimedia, is CentralNotice allowed for this? Shall a specific privacy message be added? If you see the page linked by Platonides above, WMAR intends to do a survey in a Google Docs form. Thanks. -- M\A 22:11, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
@MarcoAurelio: If the banner itself is linking directly to the off wiki site (so Banner --> Google Docs) then it should have a warning on the banner itself (for example "link goes to Google docs" or something like that). If they are linking to a wiki page first (so Banner --> Wiki page with information --> Google Docs) then they don't need the warning on the banner but making sure the wiki page says the link goes to google would be best. Jalexander--WMF 23:40, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for all the marks, I already made the page in the correct place. So sorry! --Giselle Bordoy WMAR (talk) 16:56, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

Merging live forum to WMF

Hi. I owned the official live forum site called Wikimedia Foundation Forums (forums that are used for part of Wikimedia support) and requesting to merge the site to Wikimedia Foundation in a forum subdirectory. Saying like this: "wikimediafoundation.org/forums/" instead of "wikimediafoundation.is-great.org" was a good idea. So notify me if you know the reason the best way to merge the site to WMF. --Allen (talk to me! / ctrb / E-mail me) 10:27, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

This has nothing to do with the WMF. You can't own anything in name of WMF so don't call your forum as official WMF site. It won't be merged. --Stryn (talk) 14:17, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
Since November, I founded the forum as related to WMF instead of the original WMF site. So no support of merging my site, only it belongs to me the forum only not Foundation? --Allen (talk to me! / ctrb / E-mail me) 00:29, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
Yours is a draft of forum (I don't see so much activity) which uses a proprietary CMS, so a migration would be useless. Also I believe you slightly violated some WMF's trademarks. In the past there were many proposal to create a forum, I honestly don't know much of them. So, I suggest you to check previous proposals and, if you have new ideas, do your own. --Vituzzu (talk) 11:35, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
Actually, that is not a testing forum I had founded that is a recommended support forum for WMF. What do you mean "migration would be useless"? No violation of WMF's trademarks. I said: I'm going to migrate a forum with these steps, the first thing is to create a subdirectory "forums" on WMF's root directory and second is to install the forum software (recommended the phpBB software) on WMF's subdirectory or just only copy or merge the forum also. --Allen (talk to me! / ctrb / E-mail me) 22:09, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
Recommended...by you ;)
Basically you are trying to impose a certain (closed source) design: I don't see any chance of success for your initiative.
--Vituzzu (talk) 13:24, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
Allen2, when you say "official", does that mean that the WMF endorsed the forum? Green Giant (talk) 20:47, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

┌─────────────┘
True, I endorsed the forum as part they have support forums for WMF which means I say it's "official" from WMF. ;) --Allen (talk to me! / ctrb / E-mail me) 05:33, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

Then it's anything but official and currently anything but useful. --Vituzzu (talk) 11:45, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
Also, when a user from Wikimedia signed up on the forum I may activate accounts (including their global accounts on Wikimedia or WMF). That is what I recommend for them as an official support forum "the best". ;) --Allen (talk to me! / ctrb / E-mail me) 12:42, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

Request for CentralNotice banner (4)

Hi all! Sorry for all the requests now I´m doing ok with the right page and dates. I would some help to create a CentralNotice banner for our survey https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikimedia_Argentina/Encuesta_a_voluntarios_de_Argentina planned by Wikimedia Argentina. The banner should be based on the design available here.

We want to try one campaign:

--Giselle Bordoy WMAR (talk) 17:00, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

I'm taking care of this using a standard template. -- M\A 15:11, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
Hecho: [1]. Se activará el 13 de abril y se apagará el 13 de mayo automáticamente. Un saludo. -- M\A 15:30, 11 April 2015 (UTC)

Someone with understanding might be able to have a look at MediaWiki_talk:Common.css#Babel_tables_width. Thanks. -- M\A 10:29, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

I added a comment there. Opinions needed. Glaisher (talk) 13:19, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi, Talk:Spam blacklist/Archives is protected, so could an admin please add the archives of 2015 at the bottom of the page? Regards --Schniggendiller (talk) 20:07, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

Thank you! Regards --Schniggendiller (talk) 20:33, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

old vandalizing still intact

Please see my messege in Meta talk:Discussion pages. I'm not sure if the solution is to use the bot to re-copy the english page to all the sub-pages or to manualy edit the english page (or each sub-page) by a sysop. Hummingbird (talk) 13:35, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

Fixed now. --Stryn (talk) 13:40, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

Disable untranslated banner in Ukrainian

[2] was enabled in uk despite not being translated, hence it's shown in Russian (which is not worse than being shown in English, but for sure the uk.wiki community dislikes it). Per CentralNotice/Usage guidelines, please disable the banner in uk until it's translated. --Nemo 10:04, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

Done, I hope this can be resolved quickly and then reverted. Vogone (talk) 10:09, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. I've also filed phabricator:T96552 to make this easier because I'm sick of chasing centralnotice admins. --Nemo 10:15, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
(e.c)I have re-added it, I have also published the ready translations (including uk). CentralNotice/Usage guidelines is also not a legitimate reason to disable this banner for any language (though I can 100% understand and get behind not having Russian as a fall back for Ukrainian and possibly even disabling because of that). It is certainly preferred to show the banner, or any text, in the language of the user as much as possible but for globally important banners like an election banner it is more important to get the message out when there is also a translation link provided to allow the translation to get there as quickly as possible. In those circumstances any CN admin or meta sysop can publish the translation and enable the language immediately (and so everyone who can turn the banner off can also publish a submitted translation). For the first 6-7 hours I was watching that very closely and doing it constantly and will continue to watch it (as I hope some others will too, and I expect some members of the election committee will be). There are currently over 50 translations for the banner and before this last round of publishing there were already around 40. We're working to ensure as much translation as possible as quickly as possible but unfortunately the past has shown that getting a lot of banner translations in advance can be incredibly hard (very few languages respond) and is not always possible given the circumstances (as it wasn't in this one). Putting it up with a translation link allows the message to get out, and get translated, as quickly as possible and is sometimes the best choice in the circumstances. Template:Authority control

Tracked in Phabricator:
Task T96835

[Repeating my request from February, which was archived unanswered]

Please can someone with the necessary rights import Commons:Template:Authority control together with all of its sub-templates, to this wiki? It will be useful on global user pages. The current redirect will need to be overwritten. [I was advised to post here following this discussion] Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:38, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

I'm not really a fan of special:import since ToU and CC licenses allow attribution by hyperlink. Can't those be copied over here and properly attributed in the editsummary instead of importing edits from a different database? -- M\A 11:00, 19 April 2015 (UTC)
special:import seems more common on other WMF projects; but I'd be happy with whichever the community here prefers (there are a number of sub-templates, which special:import might handle better?) Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:55, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
I have imported the template, but I ended importing all other templates as well and that has ruined some pages here. I am so, so sorry. Any idea how to fix this @Jalexander-WMF, Glaisher, and Hoo man: -- M\A 10:53, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

Please revert [3]. You should not put Lua code in template pages... This caused phabricator:T96836. --Nemo 11:31, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

They didn't do it on purpose! :-( Looks like a recursive export/import. --83.80.89.18 11:37, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

Request for Central Notice Banner - Wikimedia ZA

We would like to request a central notice banner to request South African editors to complete an online survey. This is for en.wp and af.wp.

This survey is intended to gather and help WMZA understand more about the local community editing and accessing Wikipedia and other projects in South Africa.

The survey will run from 1 April 2015 - 30 June 2015. I have included our request on the Central Notice Calendar

Any assistance you can give in this regard will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards --Humetheresa (talk) 08:39, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

@Humetheresa: Can you provide us with the text which should be used in the banner? (with af translations, if possible). Glaisher (talk) 12:19, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
also @Jalexander-WMF: do we need to add a notice that it's hosted outside Wikimedia in this case? I think I saw from somewhere that we don't need to add it for surveys hosted on wikimedia.qualtrics.com. Glaisher (talk) 12:22, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
I'm looking into this (short answer, probably yes, though it's through our qualtrics account and so we may already have an agreement with them to limit/destroy user data so looking into what wording was used in the past). Jalexander--WMF 18:42, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

@Glaisher: I provide herewith the text as requested -

English

Are you a South African based Wikipedian / Wikimedian? Please take a moment to complete our online survey to help us understand more about the local community accessing and editing Wikipedia, and other Wikimedia projects.

Afrikaans

Many thanks --Humetheresa (talk) 08:58, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

Uh, I think we should switch it to the standard design. There was already some opposition to the similar banner (WMF elections) in wikimedia-l and the text is not properly appearing on my screen for this banner. --Glaisher (talk) 11:57, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
I've changed it to the standard design and re-enabled it. Glaisher (talk) 12:11, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
OK thanks Glaisher, looks good to me.--Pharos (talk) 16:33, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
