Steward requests/Permissions

This page enables stewards to handle permissions requests, including the giving and taking of administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights, for all Wikimedia wikis which do not have a local permissions procedure. If your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (see the index of request pages). Requests for bot status, URL blacklisting and whitelisting, and CheckUser queries belong elsewhere.

For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewards IRC channel (see a web-based IRC client). In emergencies only, type !steward in the channel to inform stewards that you need help.

Please only make requests here after gaining the approval of your local community.

When requesting permissions, copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Please fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the local request, and link to your local user page. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request.

Please summarize your request in the "summary".

Project name and language
*Language Code: xx
*Local Request Link: :xx:Project:wiki
*Automatic List of local bureaucrats: :<xx:project>:Special:Listusers/bureaucrat
*Local User Page: xx:User:Example

Administrator access

See administrator for information about the position. Requests for temporary permissions and removal of access belong in other sections.

English Wikipedia

I request sysop access, I run multiple sites of my own so I think I could help out on the english wikipedia rather alot.

Thank you. Lappyexpert

Fulfulde Wikipedia

There is no real community yet, but Amkoullel started writing some articles and he's interested in translating the interface into Peul. He doesn't speak English very well, but the fallback interface will be in French pretty soon. In case there's any doubt: promoting Ibou proved to be an enormous success on the Wolof Wikipedia!

 • Language Code: ff
 • Local Request Link: [3]
 • Automatic List of local bureaucrats: [4]
 • Local User Page: ff:User:Amkoullel
With no local community, Stewards will not give permanent sysop privileges. You may wish to move this to temporary requests instead. ~Kylu (u|t) 04:49, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Let's just say that once that all sysop statuses will be reconsidered once there is a community of between 5 and 10 active speakers of Peul or if there are any problems arising. Does that work well enough? It would work for me, and I'm sure it's fine with Amkoullel .
Still, this seems pretty random. Here's why: I don't speak Peul, but I am sysop on ff.wikipedia. I am also sysop on the Wolof Wikipedia, and two months ago someone else, Ibou was promoted there without a problem - which has subsequently led to great progress there.
(By the way, I don't like that the same person is requesting the same translation over and over again, and now he's even making it into a requirement for support.) Guaka 06:35, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You don't have to translate that if you don't want, his support is not mandatory. But if he blackmails you "translate or I'll vote oppose", you let us know. drini [es:] [commons:] 20:00, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Drini is right on one point, my request is optional. However Drini is wrong on using the word "blackmail" since I have never opposed anyone just because they did not help me. Rather it is a "you help me and I also help you" situation where everyone is better off. Also, their help is not necessarily a requirement for support. --Jose77 23:16, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're right, that is called a bribe, not blackmail. I do oppose to this way of negotiating, and I think that Jose is doing the wrong thing here if I read it well. (btw: Not done) Effeietsanders 10:44, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Afrikaans Wikipedia

I request sysop access for af:User:Adriaan_1. It should be noted that he has requested a namechange as well, to af:User:Adriaan90 (already existing, unused account created by the same user). Our only bureaucrat (af:User:Alias) is MIA and hasn't responded to personal emails for some time now.

Thank you. Anrie 14:24, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucrat access

See bureaucrat for information about the position.

CheckUser access

To request CheckUser information, see Request for CheckUser information. This is the place to request CheckUser access. Note that temporary CheckUser access is not permitted.

Stewards: When someone asks for CheckUser status, please check the current policy regarding bestowal of status before giving the status. Breaching these rules may be cause for removing your steward access. When you give someone CheckUser, please list them on CheckUser, ask them to subscribe to checkuser-l, email checkuser-l-owner@wikipedia.org so that the listadmins know the person is allowed on the mailing list (the list may contain confidential information), and make sure they contact an op for access to #wikimedia-checkuser.

Hebrew Wikipedia

Shayakir was elected as a checkuser in Hebrew Wikipedia.

Same question as above. Has the user provided the foundation with identification?--Shanel 02:50, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Or a steward is expected to inform them how to be confirmed? cf. Steward handbook#CheckUser rights--Aphaia 07:02, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I asked him to do that. – rotemlissTalk 23:47, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oversight access

Do not initiate an oversight request here. The Arbitration Committee will make the request once there is consensus on the local wiki (this process is currently for en-Wikipedia only).

Stewards: When you give someone oversight access, list them on Hiding revisions.

Removal of access

If you want to request that your own status be removed, please don't forget to place a note on your local user talk page (preferably with an English translation). This is required to prove your identity. And then add the request here.

To request the removal of another user's status, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted person from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a very brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion.

 • Service note. There has been an emergency removal of rights on it.wiki, this has been done by Paginazero. There is also my full approval on this action, User:Sogeking admittedly edited using a compromised account and there is a suspicion of sockpuppetry used to vandalise pages (CU response). --M/ 20:55, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The case was closed with the resignation from User:Sogeking. --M/ 22:34, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary permissions for emergency or technical purposes

If you are requesting administrator status to make a translation of the wiki interface, see also the BetaWiki project, which seeks to make a neutral MediaWiki translation that will then be default for all wikis. That is more useful than only making a local translation. You can ask questions in the IRC channel or in the mailing list. See also MediaWiki localisation.

Stewards: Currently active temporary permissions are listed at /Approved temporary. When granting a request, please copy the request to the appropriate section there, and clearly state the date of removal. Requests only need remain listed below for a few days, and may afterward be removed as long as they have been copied to the subpage.

Malayam Wiktionary

Hi, Malayalam Wiktionary don't have an active community. I would like to improve the project and bring more people. I would like to request for Bureaucrat access. What are the procedures? My user pages are below.

Thanks --Sadik Khalid 09:48, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In such cases, you can apply for a temporary adminship. No bureaucrats are appointed without a community. --Paginazero - Ø 12:15, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Temporary sysop access is ok for admin works. Then how can I give bot flag for a bot? --Sadik Khalid 15:47, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Post the request at Requests for bot status, and stewards will set the flags from here. ~Kylu (u|t) 03:53, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sesotho Wiktionary

Hello - I would like to continue working on the Sesotho Wiktionary and I've been awarded temporary administrator status twice before:

See: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_permissions/Archives/2007/08#st.wikitionary.org_Sesotho_Wiktionary_Administrator_Request

How can I get this activated again? — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jakoli4 (talk)

Put in another temporary request, or if there is a community, hold a local election to get permanent admin status. ~Kylu (u|t) 19:45, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tok Pisin Wiktionary

I request temporary sysop access to delete the slow-but-steady stream of spam and create a cascading protection page for frequently created spam-only pages. (Alternatively, could a steward log in regularly to do this task...?) I am currently a temporary sysop on tpiwiki.

Thank you. Wantok 08:54, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Uyghur Wikipedia

I request a temporary three-month sysop access for User:Barat.

He is Native Uyghur. Barat's elementary and high school education was in Uyghur, his BSc degree was in Chinese, and now he is currently studying for A Master's Degree in English. He also knows Kazakh very well and some basic German.

Barat wishes to change the implement the Multi-Script Conversion toll, similar to the one currently in use on Kazakh Wikipedia[6], [7].

Thank you. --Jose77 22:43, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

4/1 local election. ~Kylu (u|t) 22:46, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Any help by a native Uyghur would be a plus, but multi-script conversion would be marvelous. I support Barat's temporary admin access. --Mehrdad 11:23, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
