Talk:Wikimedia Singapore User Group

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Background[edit]

The mandate for the ESEAP Hub Interim Committee was not extended. After a discussion during the ESEAP Strategy Summit at Wikimania, the seating arrangement for the Preparatory Council has been extended to include community and individual contributors on top of the original affiliate seatings.

For more information see ESEAP Preparatory Council/Process.

Nominations has to be turned in by 19 August 2023. As this is a short notice, efforts to reach out to members of this community group will be done primarily on enwiki's wikiproject singapore, and as well as on WSUG's telegram group expeditiously.

The voting process will start on 21 August, and ends on 2 September 2023.

As the documented start of the user group on wiki is vague, we will be seeking endorsement from Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia for the community seat.

Nominations[edit]

Nominees to be listed below if there's intention to participate as a Council member

  • Robertsky. Self nominated. Coming hot from organising Wikimania 2023, participating in the discussions for establishing the hub will be beneficial for the Singapore user group and the other user groups in the region administratively/financially in the future. ESEAP Council nomination discussion[edit]

@Robertsky, Kingoflettuce, Justanothersgwikieditor, Angal26, HolyCrocsEmperor, R22-3877, Osama Eid, and Exec8:

I am pinging everyone here to clarify and summarise the ESEAP Council nomination process and also to discuss who to vote for for the Community Seats. The pinged editors are eligible, based on the voting criteria, to discuss and vote for their desired candidate. Note that we are able to discuss and then vote for Robertsky.

There are three different type of seats that are up for nomination : Affiliate Seats, Community Seats and Individual Seats.

  • Affiliate Seats - We are not eligible to vote for the Affiliate Seats.
  • Community Seats - The admin or a community leader of a community is able to vote for the community subject to a discussion by the community who to vote for, aka a proxy vote.
  • Individual Seats - Anyone can vote for the individual seats as long as it is not a new account setup to vote for the individuals (see ESEAP Preparatory Council/Voter's eligibility criteria)

This section is to discuss which of the 4 nominated candidates to vote for. Please state your reason who you like to vote for. For each candidate, you can list your Support Support/Oppose Oppose/abstain vote and the reason for your vote. You do not need to list your vote and reason for every candidate.

  • Support Support: Robertsky has been instrumental in Wikimania 2023 and also organising and putting in plan for our Singapore User Group. Active editor who is interested in furthering the Wikimedia movement in Singapore. With him in the ESEAP council, we will be able to leverage on his position to finally form the group (we are still pending Affcom to approve our application) and starting our activities. Wikimania 2023 held in Singapore had interested a few Singapore agencies and organisation in Wikimedia activities. It is a good opportunity for us to have a seat on ESEAP and then leverage on ESEAP (as we do not have the manpower and time) to kick off activities in Singapore. --Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 09:10, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Introducing Let's Connect![edit]

Dear Wikimedia Singapore User Group,

We hope this message finds you well and that you are in good spirits. We are the Let’s Connect working group - a team of movement contributors/organizers who are liaison representatives of 7/8 regions. We are connecting with you to see if you are interested in and/or know about the peer-to-peer program, Let’s Connect!

The program creates an open and safe learning space for any Wikimedian who is part of an organized group to share and learn different skills (organizational/interpersonal / grant related / learning & evaluation ...) with other peers to add value and contribute collectively to the community. The purpose is to further develop skills, share knowledge and promote human connections and mutual support between different groups and communities, in alignment with the Movement Strategy.

Every month, we host 2-3 live 2-hour learning clinics with interesting topics selected by our team and our interested sharers. Our live learning sessions have up to 4 interpreters translating the clinic for our participants. Our main languages are Spanish | Arabic | French | Portuguese. If there is a specific language you would like to see in the calls, we are happy to see how we can accommodate it.

Let’s Connect is directed at Wikimedians in all regions that are part of organized groups (this can range from a group of individuals that are not formally organized user groups, chapters and mission-aligned organizations). Please see our Meta page for more criteria. To participate as a sharer, you can register in this initial registration form where you can register your learning and sharing interests and state if you want to share your knowledge through Learning Clinics.

Below, you will find our team of 8 who are excited to meet with you if you are interested. Please email our team at letsconnect@wikimedia.org if you have any questions :) We look forward to hearing from you.

Best,
Anthony Diaz
