Re. Omegawiki

Hi Donald,

The request for adopting Omegawiki by WMF was a few years ago. Since then Wikidata developed and is now trying to adapt it for Wiktionary ( see https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Wiktionary ). In view of that, I concluded that OmegaWiki will most probably never get adopted.

I am still waiting to see how it will be (I still have a rather blury understanding from the information available). If it becomes something nice, it would be an option to import the OmegaWiki data in it, since OmegaWiki is well structured it is easy to import it anywhere (unfortunately does not work the other way around: it is difficult to import a standard dictionary such as the Wiktionaries, to OmegaWiki) - and then I will move to Wikidata again.

However, I saw that the Wiktionary community is mostly against Wikidata, as it is/was against OmegaWiki, so it remains to be seen that it is actually used.

OmegaWiki is mostly in need of work on the software side. It is a bit slow and the interface could look better. I have a few ideas, but lack time :) However I have not yet seen any equivalent - i.e. a truly free/open multilingual dictionary centered around concepts, instead of around words. https://kamusi.org is the closest I know, but their data cannot be downloaded. --Kipcool (talk) 21:26, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

Alright, then I’ll stop using “Sent {} from my Microsoft Lumia 950 XL with Microsoft Windows 10 Mobile .” Here on the Meta-Wiki as a part of my signature when I draft my comments in Microsoft Outlook Mobile , however I would like to note that using emoji's is purely a stylistic choice that some hate and some love , there really isn't any policy for or against using emoji's in either text or signatures (obviously I wouldn't ever add them in article space where they would be irrelevant), so I don't see that much reason to remove the emoji's from my signature, if it would ever become policy I would remove them immediately . If enough people complain about the emoji's then I would do so too but outside of a handful of people at the 2017 Community Wishlist Survey I haven't really seen people actively removing emoji's here on Meta. P.S. I rarely edit here so you’re most likely to get a response on Wikimedia Commons as that’s the only project I actually am largely active on, but as I'm busy until at least early 2018 I’m not sure how swiftly I can reply there either. Abuse of emojis poses a problem in terms of usability and accessibility. Your "aesthetic" choice has not only drawback on you (your messages are taken less seriously) but also on others then. Finally, if anyone would use such an overblown signature talkpages will become unusable within 4 or 5 messages. --Vituzzu (talk) 12:59, 26 November 2017 (UTC)

Well, I mostly took the inspiration from PokestarFan as he/she has a huge signature and I thought that it looks stylish, I only added those there to showcase two things, (1) that I should be careful with my words to net get globally locked again, and (2) that if anyone else is on the bad side of a global lock that they know that it could be successfully appealed. Personally I just like emoji's because they make pages more colourful and I have no intent on using this signature outside of the Meta-Wiki and as I rarely edit here (only lately because of the wish list and I still want to propose a Wikipedia Chu Nom or a Wikisource Chu Nom to the language committee) so one won't find my signature here that much in general. Signature is not meant to "showcase" anything but attributing a message to someone. Three emojis are still too many but not that bad, you should anyway remove global lock/unlock links.   • Improved the threshold for ORES on Wikidata (phabricator:T180450)
  • Working on fixing a regression after a change in MediaWiki core that makes edit links show up on diff pages (phabricator:T181807)
  • More work on persistent editing of statements on Forms of a Lexeme (specifically phabricator:T180467)
  • Improved size of the diff that we sent to Wikipedia and co for changes happening on Wikidata. This is one more needed step towards only showing meaningful edits in the watchlists and recent changes there. (phabricator:T113468)

Banner on tP

Ciao mr Trung,

You always get comments on your talkPage, that is actually one of the first places to communicate, in case of blocks (for me twice in two or three weeks!) the only way. Someone said your "banner" could be seen as a personal attack. It's up to the "victim" to decide. I agree completely. She is one of the "untouchables", victim of stalking by two fellow mods, not only online, but even IRL. They traveled more than a hundred miles to visit her scaring her entire family! No need to say they got a long ban. Be careful what you say about (against?) mods. Sometimes I act like a troll, but in general I hate them... Klaas `Z4␟` V:  14:47, 15 December 2017 (UTC)

I have never viewed you as a troll, but that aside, I simply stated on that banner that global locks aren't the same as global bans and that banning someone for life based on a lock is against policy which is immature to do, anyhow I don't care what happened to her with JurgenNL, that doesn't excuse her behaviour and I'm fully aware that being critical of the bullying sysop culture of Dutch Wikipedia will get you banned, just look at Torero. Good question! I never even tried to become admin on any project. I became one on OmegaWiki automatically being one of the "pioneers" invited by GerardM as for Wiktionary which could have been an exception, but my work on OmegaWiki is exactly the main reason not to try there. Wikisource could be another, but I rarely even visit it lately. I am afraid Wikimedia (at least the chapter Netherlands) can not escape from the "Iron law of oligarchy". Since we do not belong to the "happy (?) few" that group was, is and always will be against us, even if we do the things right and the right things. For some reason they keep trying together as one block to bring us down on our knees. No way, I won't change to please all of them though for some of them I have some or even a lot sympathy and/or respect. Amazing that I get respect and/or support from people I never expected this. Probably people who really understand what Assume Good Faith is all about. In the "admin army" there are unfortunately too few IMNSHO... thanks for the comments, however, my block was more about fair use, when i sensed a disturbance in the wiki, with the return of w:User:Werieth. (betacommand up for an unban? [1]) the arbcom members are more amused than moved to action. we are going to have a culture change that affects admin behavior; it is just going to take a while. cheers.
