Same JavaHurricane on Miraheze[edit]

Hi JavaHurricane,

This is just a quick note and question to confirm whether you are the same JavaHurricane as this JavaHurricane on Miraheze.

Thanks,
Dmehus (talk) 06:18, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dmehus, yes, I'm the same. JavaHurricane 06:19, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
JavaHurricane, thanks! I thought so, but just wanted to be sure before I added autopatrolled on Miraheze's Meta Wiki. Dmehus (talk) 20:24, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Global rollbacker[edit]

Hi,

I just have given you rollbacker seeing the clear consensus. Good luck with it! Wiki13 (talk) 11:35, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! JavaHurricane 11:36, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can you explain why a page at the link it was changed to exists while at the older link it does not? ~~~~

Sorry, missed this message due to some LTA harassment. As it appears, BlueWhale is a cross-wiki vandal who disrupted the Incubator and enwiki. After getting blocked there, the user came to meta. I checked the links to the incubator, and so far as I can see, while the original project was rejected and deleted, the new project doesn't seem to use multiple scripts. Hence, I have now removed the listing itself. JavaHurricane 02:52, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Narendra Singh Tomar[edit]

Hi dear Sir /Madom

Could you pls correct narendra Singh Tomar Caste in Hindi material since he belongs to Kshatriya family and you mentioned gurjar which is not true. So I request to you pls correct asap otherwise we need to take some strict action . I hope you know the fact ! Ram sharan007 (talk) 17:56, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't bring content disputes from the Hindi Wikipedia to Meta-Wiki. I'm not an active contributor on the Hindi Wikipedia, and I daresay it will be better to discuss any disputes over there, not here. Also, if you are considering any police or legal action against Wikipedia or any of its editors, I'd like to forewarn you that Wikipedia does not allow editors who are taking active legal action against itself or its editors. Invitation for Functionary consultation 2021[edit]

Greetings SWMT member,

I'm letting you know in advance about a meeting I'd like to invite you to regarding the Universal Code of Conduct and the community's ownership of its future enforcement. I'm still in the process of putting together the details, but I wanted to share the date with you: 10 July, 2021. I do not have a time on this date yet, but I will let you soon. We have created a meta page with basic information. Please take a look at the meta page and sign up your name under the appropriate section.

Thank you for your time.--BAnand (WMF) 03:21, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

SRG requests[edit]

Hi. As you will see the IP blocks are well behind and requests typically not actioned as the requests are not going to prevent anything. I am not certain what is happening on the other side of the wall where they operate, but we can assist.

Can I ask for you to be more selective in your requests to this page, so we can get truly valuable requests in place. It would that there is little value in reporting short term GRP intrusions as they are not actioned before they have moved on, and there is no evidence that they are being revisited. Those short term intrusions are often best managed at the wikis, or you can report them in IRC in the stewards' channel where they may be able to throw a day block at it quickly. Generally he has a methodology lined up and IP jumps quickly and doesn't revisit. Personally I also don't find that spambots are crosswiki, so if they are managed at a wiki there is not a lot of value in globally blocking them in my experience, all that may occur is that the stewards may identify an IP or range that is a problem. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 03:35, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. Thanks! JavaHurricane 04:06, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
What about the IPs being open proxies? I could imagine that the IPs could help find ranges that could be gblocked altogether. ~~~~

So far as I know, Ljupco uses a VPN service that allows him to randomly select an IP as per his wishes. I had a talk with some experts at en:WP:WPOP who said that the IPs would cease being proxies within a few days, and that rangeblocks are infeasible as the IPs vary widely. Blocks issued weeks after abuse are useless: if a block is to be made, it should be made immediately and for 24 hours or so to cause Ljupco to run out of IPs. I've heard that spambots can be found sometimes on the proxies, but it doesn't justify blocks after weeks. Given the backlog at SRG right now, and as GRP never reuses an IP, I'll avoid reporting IPs except in case GRP uses it for xwiki abuse. JavaHurricane 10:25, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense, thanks! We might need some more extensive filters then. ~~~~

reverts and trolls[edit]

Please don't get into revert wars with LTA/vandals/etc. Apart from feeding the troll it is just making noise. Stewards pages are well watched by many and someone will get to it reasonably promptly. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 14:12, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies:[edit]

Regarding this revert you made yesterday, I didn't even know I wasn't supposed to report usernames that were THAT abusive, and would like to apologize for doing so. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 10:20, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your request[edit]

Has been completed, thank you. — xaosflux Talk 17:25, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome! JavaHurricane 17:52, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

SRUC[edit]

Seems this revert should not be performed? Stang 14:53, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Stang: right you are. I have self-reverted. I should have used Google translate and also considered the context of the discussion. Thank you for the note! JavaHurricane 15:25, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

On Stewards noticeboard ...[edit]

On Stewards noticeboard, please be aware of editing where you have a conflict of interest. Some things that people may say are uncomfortable to hear, and others finding them problematic then they will remove them. All you are doing is feeding the troll. Who is in charge in this situation? Who is the puppet and who is the puppeteer? You need to learn to step back, and I do understand the urge to step in, but you have to let the processes play out.  — billinghurst sDrewth 14:46, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Billinghurst: it's w:en:WP:LTA/VXFC, as Zzuuzz notes in the discussion; as such, I do not see any COI in reverting the obvious socks of a banned troll trying to harass me. I will, however, disengage from there, as you recommend. JavaHurricane 15:39, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Who it is, or what they are saying is not particularly pertinent. This is not about what you know, it is about the look of the action, and in a space that is not yours to maintain ... perceived conflict of interest. When you are being trolled your job is to yawn and look bored and not give a stuff about things, sometimes to evenly agree with them with total sarcasm and a sense of the ridiculous. In a place like that someone will quickly manage it and typically investigate that the user has been dealt with. Think big picture, you are getting caught in the detail.  — billinghurst sDrewth 08:58, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, but I fail to get your point. So I should do absolutely nothing about harassment, simply not to feed the troll? I'll simply say that I disagree; harassment should be reverted at sight IMO, if possible, without any regard for w:WP:DENY; and I daresay I care little about that essay. My past experience (and it seems to be different from yours) is that these types of trolls take greater pride in harassing their victims and causing them damage of some kind or the other. There are some LTAs that do need to be not fed; and then there are others where the possibility of causing damage by letting the harassment stay is large enough for removing it, even at the cost of feeding the troll, is much greater. This troll is obviously the other. I feel that my views differ significantly from yours on this matter; and I feel that my views are entrenched enough for them to not change much. Not that I have much to gain from arguing my side: my views are obviously in the minority, and will be discouraged by the overwhelming majority. No point in litigating this; I'm harming myself here. Hey Java! I just wanted to stop by and say thank you for your support on my merchandise nomination. I really appreciate you! Operator873 connect 21:43, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Salt abusefilter[edit]

Hi. We maintain a global abusefilter here at meta that we use to do a pseudo-protection on user talk pages of those hit by xwiki abusers. I have added you to that filter. If it causes issues for you, then please let me know and this can be investigated. FWIW it is filter 181.  — billinghurst sDrewth 09:54, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Billinghurst: thank you. Will let you know if there are any issues. JavaHurricane 12:33, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I am in trouble[edit]

Hi Java. Thanks for this. I am running into cross wiki trouble on many places. Please see this, this (thought you reverted it), this and also this. How do you actually know it is Blogs19? It is just an IP user. Is there any means by which you know this? I am asking this because not 1 but groups of 3 to 4 LTA's are behind me, and no one is sure about who is who. Please see this for more info. What can I do in this position? Please help me out. Itcouldbepossible (talk) 02:50, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

We're still collecting feedback for the IP Info feature[edit]

Hello @JavaHurricane, there's still time to test the IP Info feature and share your feedback. Looking forward to hearing from you. –– STei (WMF) (talk) 18:11, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, have been busy lately but will have more time to comment the next week. I have some preliminary thoughts already and will look to expand on them when I am free. JavaHurricane 12:07, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
