Revised Global Economic Map proposal?[edit]

McN: Have you seen my suggestion for basing the Global Economic Map in Wikidata instead of Wikipedia? Do you want to work together to revise the proposal? Filceolaire (talk) 18:13, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for incorporating this in the proposal. I have rewritten the "Wikidata Integration" section a bit to be a bit clearer as to the various stages. Note that as rewritten the project does not need to wait for WMF approval. It can start now in Wikidata. Nor is there much need for funding - wikidata bot herders and translators are already working for love and introducing pay for some would probably just disrupt the process.

Good advice Mcnabber091 (talk) 02:03, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

I suggest we start by creating a project page on Wikidata and announce it on Wikidata project chat. Do you want to go ahead now or would you rather spend a few days learning how wikidata works first? Filceolaire (talk)

That is a good idea, I am ready to create a project page on Wikidata. I couldn't figure out where to make a project within Wikidata, do you have a link on where to make a the project page? Mcnabber091 (talk) 02:03, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
Try announcing it on Project Chat. or creating an Economic Taskforce. PiRSquared17 (talk) 03:45, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

To get the Economic properties to 'Pending'[edit]

Once we are happy that the property proposals are as good as we can make them then we move them to the d:Wikidata:Property_proposal/Term#Economics.2F_Wirtschaft.2F_Economie page and ask the others to comment.
We should discuss this on the d:Wikidata_talk:Global_Economic_Map_task_force/Properties page. Filceolaire (talk) 14:19, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

Sounds like a good plan Mcnabber091 (talk) 18:04, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

Talk about Global Economic Map at Hackathon tomorrow?[edit]

Hi Alex. First off, I wanted to say that I'm really excited to see that you'll be at the hackathon tomorrow. Second, I wanted to see if you were interested in doing a short, informal "lightning talk" about your project to introduce it to some of the other participants (both local and remote). You might be able to get some of the other researchers interested in collaborating with you: either some of the UW student researchers who will be present at the local meetup, or some of the folks at the other hackathon sites. If you're interested, there will be time for you to describe your project during our ~10am Google Hangout with folks from San Francisco, Minneapolis and Oxford (+ more). You can also spend some time talking just to the local group tomorrow morning too, and then potentially collaborate on it with other hackers in the afternoon.

Anyway, just thought I'd suggest the opportunity--no obligation, obviously. No matter what, I look forward to meeting you and talking with you about the project. Cheers, Jtmorgan (talk) 20:57, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

Yeah I would be very willing to share the idea. Thanks for setting this thing up. Mcnabber091 (talk) 02:08, 9 November 2013 (UTC)

Support[edit]

Hello McNabber, a good direction to go is to post a standard encouraging 5 lines message on various relevant project talkpages. For you, project/portal about economic, political engagement / hactivistm, sociology, as well as statistic, and general village pump are the way to go. That should bring an hand of support forward, which you quite need ! Yug (talk) 15:28, 20 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi Yug thank you that is good advice.

How can we improve Wikimedia grants to support you better?[edit]

Hi! The Wikimedia Foundation would like your input on how we can reimagine Wikimedia Foundation grants to better support people and ideas in your Wikimedia project.

After reading the Reimagining WMF grants idea, we ask you to complete this survey to help us improve the idea and learn more about your experience. When you complete the survey, you can enter to win one of five Wikimedia globe sweatshirts!

In addition to taking the the survey, you are welcome to participate in these ways:

This survey is in English, but feedback on the discussion page is welcome in any language.

With thanks,

I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources, Wikimedia Foundation.

Last call for WMF grants feedback![edit]

Hi, this is a reminder that the consultation about Reimagining WMF grants is closing on 8 September (0:00 UTC). We encourage you to complete the survey now, if you haven't yet done so, so that we can include your ideas.

With thanks,

I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources, Wikimedia Foundation.

Inspire Campaign on content curation & review[edit]

WPCube.png

I've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia volunteers collaboratively manage vast repositories of knowledge, and we’re looking for your ideas about how to manage that knowledge to make it more meaningful and accessible. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.

All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is welcome - your skills and experience can help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign to improve review and curation tasks so that we can make our content more meaningful and accessible! I JethroBT (WMF) 05:39, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

Participate in the Inspire Campaign and help address harassment![edit]

NounProject Leaves.png

Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.

Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,

I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 17:46, 31 May 2016 (UTC) (Opt-out instructions)
