Username change request[edit]

Dear Meta Bureaucrats @Barras, Cbrown1023, M7, Sj, and MF-Warburg: I would like to change my username to remove the parentheses "()" from the WMF part. Since I work quite a bit with RTL languages, this additional punctuation breaks down when coding. I would also like to capitalize the "F" in my last name for consistency:

Please change Tflanagan (WMF) to TFlanagan WMF.

Many thanks (and I hope this is an appropriate way to make such request), Tighe (talk) 06:51, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not actually sure if that is ok by internal Foundation account-naming policy for staff members. Could @Jalexander and Philippe (WMF): please let us know here if that is ok? -Barras talk 08:35, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And please use WM:CHU next time. --MF-W 14:23, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks -- I didn't know WM:CHU existed because it wasn't terribly clear about the process on the Changing username page except for the bureaucrat bit. I'll put a request in the proper place. Tighe (talk) 16:49, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't execute this yet; there are WMF specific issues here. We'll touch base with Tflanagan : ) Philippe Beaudette, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 18:49, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Open Badges[edit]

Hi Tighe, Open Badges is starting to get some traction, and Wikimedia UK is currently looking at it. Having had a chat with people from other chapters, we reckon it would be good to have a place to develop our ideas on Meta. I am not sure whether this should be at Grants:IdeaLab/Open Badges for off-wiki credentials or elsewhere, as the discussion is not necessarily tied in to any grants. I would welcome your thoughts on this matter? Fabian Tompsett (WMUK) (talk) 14:03, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Fabian Tompsett (WMUK): I'm glad there's some discussion happening here and also happy to hear there is some momentum at WMUK and other chapters. If those conversations are best captured elsewhere and not in the grants space, that's fine. The conversation could happen here, as this space is intended to be a place to develop ideas into actionable projects -- I think the actual "grants" bit is quite secondary here (and perhaps not necessary with chapters' support). I created this stub mostly to capture an idea after speaking with some Mozilla folks at a conference and to see if it resonated with anyone else here. (It obviously did, which is great.)
Wherever the conversation continues, let's make sure to link back as appropriate (or even redirect if that makes sense). I care more about a focused effort that results in some actual experimentation, and less about where the work happens. We can make it clear to anyone interested where the conversations are happening and how they can participate. Maybe even a banner that calls attention a page on Meta or back to the WMUK page?
Thanks for reaching out and your coordination efforts! Tighe Flanagan (WMF) (talk) 16:15, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Programs notification[edit]

Hi Tighe,

Thanks for your support in the past year and I look forward to seeing more of your support this year. However, I'm glad to let you know that on 16th January 2016, we conducted a Wikipedia Workshop for Students of Fountain University and the second part of the workshop will take place in the same University on 28th January 2015. We also setup a page to manage the students on Wikipedia. See en:User:Wikicology/Adopt for example. We are organizing an article writing contest, titled "Wiki Loves Nigeria Writing Contest which aim to increase the number of Nigeria-related topics on Wikipedia. Invitation to Training Modules design conversation[edit]

Hello! We are leaving you this message because you have previously indicated that you interested in helping the Wikimedia Foundation Support & Safety team in developing our training modules this year.

We appreciate all the help and thoughts users like you have offered thus far. We would like to encourage you, if you are interested, to participate in the next step of our development: a community consultation about the design and structure of the modules. Note that we're not yet gathering feedback on the content of the modules - a separate consultation about that will be starting soon.

In this "design" consultation, we're looking for advice on things like the best place to host these modules, the accessibility of content, and other potential design decisions. Please feel free to leave any thoughts you have about these things on the talk page. Thanks! Kbrown (WMF) (talk) 18:10, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[Wikipedia & Education User Group] Updates: November 2018[edit]

Greetings,

Integrating Wikimedia with education is a powerful strategy for the outreach of Wikimedia projects. Realising this concept, a group of leaders promoted this and formed the Wikipedia Education Collaborative. After some time, this evolved to become a user group, officially recognised by the Affiliations Committee in June 2018. The user group had its first board elections earlier in September. In the process to formalise activities and give a shape the user group for long-term sustainability, we are now revamping our processes. Thanks for supporting us during incubation stages, we are now inviting you to formally join the user group by following the instructions on the members' page. Being a member will allow you to be a part of this wonderful collaboration and also do interesting stuff.

Kind regards
