This page enables stewards to handle permissions requests, including the giving and taking of administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights, for all Wikimedia wikis which do not have a local permissions procedure. If your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (see the index of request pages). Requests for bot status, URL blacklisting and whitelisting, and CheckUser queries belong elsewhere.

For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewards IRC channel (see a web-based IRC client). In emergencies only, type !steward in the channel to inform stewards that you need help.

Please only make requests here after gaining the approval of your local community.

When requesting permissions, copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Please fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the local request, and link to your local user page. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request.

Irish language Wiktionary / gawikt

I request sysop access.

I am currently temporary sysop on this wikti, originally joining last August when the wiki was badly damaged and dormant. Since then, I, with the help of some other folks, have successfully revived the wiki. New editors are regularly joining and our mainspace page count has doubled. In the space of just six weeks, I've accumulated more than 1,000 edits. I have successfully translated most of MediaWiki space into the local language and am now feeding changes back via Betawiki (thanks, Siebrand :) ). As this is my native language, I took this on as a "labour of love" and would love to stay on as sysop there. My recent local RfA, found here, has been running over a week now & has received support from the key editors there. My temporary approval has previously been logged on meta here and is due to run out soon.

Kannada Wikipedia

I request admin access to the kannada language wikipedia under kn:user:ಶುಶ್ರುತ. The current administrators have been inactive for nearly 6 months now. I have been a major (and at times sole) contributor for over a year with >3000 edits. I am currently the 4th highest all time contributor (and the highest among active ones) [1]. The wiki only sees sporadic contributors other than me and requires the implementation of an automatic transliteration system as in Telugu, Nepali and other Indic wikis to increase activity. There was a huge deletion backlog too which was recently cleared by User:Prince Kassad operating under temporary adminship. Emails to administrator kn:User:Hpnadig resulted in him advising me to ask for permission here since he is not actively following the wiki. RFA placed at the wiki elicited no response even after 3 months. My good standing can also be verified from my edit history on the english wiki as en:User:Shushruth.

Not done.In order to have permanent adminship, you need to request it from the community. Without any support for your request, we cannot grant you permanent adminship. You may request temporary adminship, however. --Shanel 16:25, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is no active community that involves itself at this wiki and hence getting community support is impossible without canvassing (which I believe contravenes RFA rules). Upper Sorbian Wiktionary

I request sysop access so I can import our articles from the incubator. We do not have any sysops or bureaucrats yet, and I am the main contributor and the one who has entered the proposal for the project.

How come, I expected exactly this response? Please, folks, the hsb.wikt was only just created. Ewornar is the one who proposed it and created almost all the existing content on the incubator. He needs sysop access to get started. There is no community yet, just as there is no content. It's absolutely pointless to demand from him to simulate elections on a completely empty wiki. To request CheckUser information, see Request for CheckUser information. This is the place to request CheckUser access. Note that temporary CheckUser access is not permitted.

Stewards: When someone asks for CheckUser status, please check the current policy regarding bestowal of status before giving the status. Breaching these rules may be cause for removing your steward access. When you give someone CheckUser, please list them on CheckUser, ask them to subscribe to checkuser-l, email checkuser-l-owner@wikipedia.org so that the listadmins know the person is allowed on the mailing list (the list may contain confidential information), and make sure they contact an op for access to #wikimedia-checkuser.


Chechen Wikipedia

Salam. I'd like to request a CheckUser access on t he Chechen Wikipedia. There is no current local community at the time, only active editors such as me and well, not very active at the moment Mega Programmar. I have done a lot on the Chechen wikipedia, and I'd like to do more. I am currently a Bereaucrat and Sysop there. The Checkuser policy requires that there needs to be at least two checkusers on any given wiki and these need to be elected by the community. (Therefore, the stewards cannot grant this request.) If you need a CheckUser done for some reason, please put them on Requests for CheckUser information and a steward will perform the check for you. Cbrown1023 talk 16:02, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Majorly, the problem with it is we don't have that big of a local community, only 2 or 3 active people. Which since a new term of university commenced, activeness has declined for us. Although I am talking with Mega programmar, the other active beraucrat to try to have 2 checkusers on the CE wiki at the same time. We will see. :) --Girdi 16:24, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oversight access

Do not initiate an oversight request here. The Arbitration Committee will make the request once there is consensus on the local wiki (this process is currently for en-Wikipedia only).

Stewards: When you give someone oversight access, list them on Hiding revisions.


Removal of access

If you want to request that your own status be removed, please don't forget to place a note on your local user talk page (preferably with an English translation). This is required to prove your identity. And then add the request here.

To request the removal of another user's status, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted person from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a very brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion.

Temporary permissions for emergency or technical purposes

If you are requesting administrator status to make a translation of the wiki interface, see also the BetaWiki project, which seeks to make a neutral MediaWiki translation that will then be default for all wikis. That is more useful than only making a local translation. You can ask questions in the IRC channel or in the mailing list. See also MediaWiki localisation.

Stewards: Currently active temporary permissions are listed at /Approved temporary. When granting a request, please copy the request to the appropriate section there, and clearly state the date of removal. Requests only need remain listed below for a few days, and may afterward be removed as long as they have been copied to the subpage.

Tsonga Wikipedia

I request temporary sysop access on the Tsonga wikipedia. The wiki is almost dead and the only active administrator is not that active. The wiki only has 10 articles and sometimes receives spam and vandalism which aren't reverted that quickly. I would like temporary sysop status to rework the main page and stop vandalism and spam

Tok Pisin Wiktionary

I request temporary sysop access to delete the slow-but-steady stream of spam and create a cascading protection page for frequently created spam-only pages. (Alternatively, could a steward log in regularly to do this task...?) I am currently a temporary sysop on tpiwiki.

Uyghur Wikipedia

I request a temporary three-month sysop access for User:Barat.

He is Native Uyghur. Barat's elementary and high school education was in Uyghur, his BSc degree was in Chinese, and now he is currently studying for A Master's Degree in English. He also knows Kazakh very well and some basic German.

Barat wishes to change the implement the Multi-Script Conversion toll, similar to the one currently in use on Kazakh Wikipedia[3], [4].

Fulfulde Wikipedia

There is no real community yet, but Amkoullel started writing some articles and he's interested in translating the interface into Peul. He doesn't speak English very well, but the fallback interface will be in French pretty soon. In case there's any doubt: promoting Ibou proved to be an enormous success on the Wolof Wikipedia!

Let's just say that once that all sysop statuses will be reconsidered once there is a community of between 5 and 10 active speakers of Peul or if there are any problems arising. Does that work well enough? It would work for me, and I'm sure it's fine with Amkoullel .
Still, this seems pretty random. Here's why: I don't speak Peul, but I am sysop on ff.wikipedia. I am also sysop on the Wolof Wikipedia, and two months ago someone else, Ibou was promoted there without a problem - which has subsequently led to great progress there. I don't see the problem, Allmessages are in English, but if he clicks any message he can translate from French to Fulfulde. See for example [7]. Punjabi Wikipedia

I request sysop access to clean up the CSD and to fix the link to the main page (as well as the main page itself). The only other sysop is on wikibreak, according to his English Wikipedia user page.

I have noticed that there are articles there which have been candidates for speedy deletion for 9 months now.
