  1. Socialize with community members
  2. Recruit new editors
  3. Building udmurt-centric community, focused to works in Wikimedia wikis
  4. Hold public events devoted to wiki-projects in Udmurt

Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

  1. What is the purpose of the meeting and why is it important to your community?
    1. Udmurt Wikipedia has been functioning for more than 10 years already, but still there is no reliable community which would be able to work regularly for writing and editing articles, publishing photos. There are some individual authors and administrators who try to promote Wikipedia in Udmurt language, but they work separately and there is no common conception of work. One of the main reasons of that is the absence of communication: they have never met and do not know one another. Also not many new people can work in Wikipedia for a long time: they need to have help and support for working for free encyclopedia.
    2. The purpose is to bring together the people who are able to work around the wiki-projects in Udmurt; hold same training activities; unite the local wikipedians in a social circle and then make content production more regular and effective.
  2. If applicable, what benefits have you seen from doing this kind of meeting in the past?
    1. On the 24th of October 2015, in the frame of celebration of the 10 years anniversary of Udmurt Wikipedia, there was meeting in Izhevsk, which was very interesting both for students and for scholars and teachers. This event shown the need in training workshops (seminars), where wikimedians would be able to tell about Wikipedia specifics and about other Wikimedia projects, wikimedians would be able to make workshops for placement of articles in free encyclopedia.
  3. How will you let participants know about the meeting?
    1. At the Finno-Ugric wiki-conference 2016, which took place at Karelia Republic from the 6th till the 9th of May 2016, there was made a decision to make the next Ural wiki-seminar 2016 in Udmurt Republic. We shall inform the potential participants in local media, social network services, Wiki-News in Russian, and at the community discussion page in the Udmurt wikipedia.
  4. How will you keep participants engaged after the meeting is over?
    1. We hope, all the participants tell us the addresses of their account in social network services, and emails. We shall use the one of existing groups in social network services for stay in touch and cooperate, or a special discussion group will be created for this purpose.
  5. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
    1. This event will take place in the capital of Udmurt Republic – Izhevsk city, from the 23d till 26th of September 2016, the purpose is to attract new partici-pants, to teach them and to discuss actual problems with experienced editors. During this event it is also planned to make public overview lectures and press-conference for regional mass media, training workshops for students and teachers of local universities, sightseeing tour (wiki-excursions) to Architectural and Ethnographic Museum-Reserve "Ludorvay" and Mikhail Kalashnikov Museum - to get acquainted with traditional culture and cuisine of Udmurts. Wikimedians will be able to discuss actual problems and to compile plans for the future.

Impact[edit]

Note: In addition to your project-specific measures of success, you will also be asked to report on some Global Metrics at the end of your final report. Please keep this in mind as you plan, and we'll support you as you begin your project.

  1. Number of total participants
    1. Up to 100 participants, include up to 15 participants outside of Izhevsk.
  2. Number of people who will help organize the event
    1. 5: User:Denis_Sacharnych, Shklyaev, udm:User:Palezik, User:Dmitry Rozhkov, User:Niklitov, User:Drbug

Budget[edit]

  • Accommodation - 3 nights: 2280 rubles х 17 participants x 3 days = 116280 rubles, or $1782,3

Without taxes: $1782,3/ 116280 rubles

With personal income tax (13%) = $2014 / 131396,4 rubles

$2000/130480 rubles requested from the WMF. Participants’ own funds provide 916,4 RUB for another expenses. So it comes up with 53,9 rubles per person (personal income tax is not included to the sum because it is their own expense).

In case of an increase or decrease of the participants’ number more or less than 17, the amount is recalculated.

In case of cost savings from the grant fund allocated by the WMF, the balance is included in a calculation of next wiki workshops costs.

Total: 131396,4 rubles, or $2014 (while Sberbank еxchange rate 1 $ = 64.89 rubles)

  • Support Support. A similar event in the city of Ufa in April 2015 was successful in bringing attention to a Wikipedia in another language of Russia—Bashkir, and resulted in positive media coverage and long-term growth in writers. Repeating it in other regions of Russia is a good idea. I can also testify that I met Mr. Shklyaev in person and had a positive impression of his organization skills and community development vision. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 06:59, 5 September 2016 (UTC)
