This page hosts requests for a Bot flag on a Wikimedia wiki with no bureaucrats. Please read the instructions before posting a request. Request to remove own permission should be done in SRP.

Please only make request here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community (i.e., don't list your bot here if you haven't consulted the local wiki for at least a week, or whatever local policies dictate). Previous requests are archived.

Instructions

Before posting here

Before posting here, please check the following points:

  1. If there is a bureaucrat on the local wiki (visit Special:ListUsers/bureaucrat on the wiki to check): Please ask them to fulfill your request using Special:UserRights on the relevant wiki.
  2. Before requesting access here, make sure to obtain consensus on the local wiki if there is a community (see the index of request pages). If there is no local community, request on this page with a note to that effect. You can ask local bot flag directly here for some wikis in some cases (see automatic approval).
  3. Remember to read the local project's bot policy. This should be linked from the local bot request page; a few are listed below. DO NOT post your request here without having fulfilled the local policies first, and having waited for at least a week to gauge community opinion. In the case that the project does not have a local bot policy, the global bot policy applies.

Making a request

  1. Place the following code at the bottom of the "Bot status requests" section below:
    === Bot name@xxproject ===
    {{sr-request
    | status = <!--don't change this line-->
    | domain =
    | user name =
    | discussion =
    }}
    (your remarks) ~~~~

    You can use following form when applying global bot status:

    === Global bot status for <yourbotname> ===
    {{sr-request
    | status = <!--don't change this line-->
    | domain = global<!--don't change this line-->
    | user name =
    | discussion =
    }}
    {{indent|''Not ending before {{subst:#time:j F Y H:i|+2 week}} UTC''}}
    (your remarks) ~~~~

  2. Fill in the values:
    • 'domain': the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
    • 'user name': the bot's user name (like "ExampleBot"). Leave it blank if you're requesting access for multiple bots.
    • 'discussion': a link to the local vote or discussion about the bot (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Bots#ExampleBot]]"). Notes: If there is no local vote or discussion, please say so below the template and explain why not. If there's no community, implement the standard bot policy instead.
  3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Global bot status requests

Global bots are enabled on most wikis using the standard bot policy (see list of global bot wikis and global bot access requirements). Request will typically be left open for several days to allow comments. Please add requests at the bottom of this section.

Bots in vec.wiktionary

This message was placed on my user discussion place, but IMHO it should be better placed here. Please or activate the global bot policy on Vec.wiktionary or give the local bot flag to JAnDbot. Carsrac (talk) 15:35, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, in vec.wiktionary the bot that works most is User:JAnDbot, but it has no bot flag. We discussed about it because we don't have any bureaucrat, and wanted to change our policy here in Meta. We had already discussed, and got consensus. How can we officially confirm our global bot policy? --Tn4196 (talk) 12:23, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Any steward can activate your global bot policy. But maybe it better to ask for User:JAnDbot a local botflag as the whole global bot is under discussion. Carsrac (talk) 15:30, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Activated the global bot policy on vec.wiktionary (but someone still needs to do the paperwork). A separate discussion will need to take place for the global bot flag. --Rschen7754 05:35, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of global bot status

Please see the policy for global bots for the requirements that must be met for global bot access.

Bot status requests

Please add new requests at the bottom of this section.

Bot operators making bulk requests, please consider applying for global bot status and helping implement the standard bot policy on small wikis to simplify and streamline the bulk request process.

Is there a community discussion somewhere? Why do you want a bot flag? And it's probably best if you create a separate account for a bot, don't you think? --MF-W 13:46, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Answer (for MF-W) - I Mongolian Wikipedia administrator.Continuously since 2008, often included articles. Of course, the replacement done. As you can see by clicking on the contributions. @Danzanjamts: You will need a separate bot account, and you should explain in detail what the bot is going to do... Snowolf How can I help? 15:15, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of bot status

If a specific user is abusing his/her bot status, you may request removal of the status on his account here. Please be sure to provide a short explanation on the current situation, along with links to the bot's contribution and an announcement in your community of the abuse. Previous requests are archived.

Is there anybody who could give a translation or summary of what the discussion about? Bennylin 06:00, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

From a machine translation, is it correct to say that hy.wp community wants those bots to be unflagged because they're a potential threat and/or inactivity? For globally inactive bots, I believe there are other mechanism that will deflagged them, but for an inactive bots in a project I don't think they're posing any risk of running wild or anything like that. Could you explain your reasoning in this page? (In your language or second language other than English is fine too). Bennylin 06:34, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Bennylin, могу сказать, что не все боты имеют глобальные флаги, большинство имеют сразу два флага: и глобальный, и местный. Плюс к этому смотрите эту страницу:Requests for comment/Inactive Global bot accounts--6AND5 (talk) 17:36, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Let me clarify/confirm this. Those are interwiki maintenance bots with local flags given years ago for that task. They are inactive for 1.5-3 years, now. Bot activity is not being monitored on hy:WP, so if abandoned account get in wrong hands, damage done won't be noticed fast. Alternative solution would be to block all passive accounts, and unblock per bot master request with description of new tasks planned, but deflagging seemed like a first option. I've also fired RfC on inactive Global bots based on same concerns related to Global bot accounts. --Xelgen (talk) 18:26, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
