Global filter to track phab:T287936
[edit]
Moved from User talk:NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh
Hey, I see you're active in edit filters. Would you be willing to add a global filter similar to Special:AbuseFilter/192 to help track phab:T287936. It'd be sufficient to look for </cite></ref> in new articles. Examples (of removal of the junk that was added by the translation tool): https://hr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Diff/7477238 or https://hr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Diff/7458283. But this is pretty much the case with any translation containing repeated references. Thanks, ponor (talk) 17:43, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Ponor: I see there are tens of thousands of such instances across wikis. Could you check a few of them at random to see if there are any potential false positives we'd need to be aware of? NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 18:41, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
- I've checked about 20 random pages and found no false positives. They all had a "Content translation/V2" tag. You could probably use
& !added_lines contains 'cx-segment'as an additional condition, since that's already covered by #192. Global Search only finds pages that haven't been fixed, so I thought a tracking filter would be more useful. We've been fixing ref errors like https://hr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Permalink/7458281?uselang=en for years. Running the filter for a few months should be enough to gauge the scale of the problem and help convince someone somewhere to take a look at this. ponor (talk) 19:30, 8 June 2026 (UTC)

- Do you have an idea how common this is? I’m trying to avoid adding more noise to the global filter logs. -- XXBlackburnXx (talk) 19:32, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
- In my experience, it's pretty much every page creation using Content translation/V2. I do not know how many pages a day that is, but it should be similar to #192? That number is why I'd like to have this global filter enabled, say for a few months. Are
<cite>...</cite>even legal in wikitext? ponor (talk) 20:07, 8 June 2026 (UTC)- @Ponor: Special:AbuseFilter/401; let's see how it goes. If it turns out to be too noisy and starts cluttering the global logs, I may need to disable it again though. -- XXBlackburnXx (talk) 20:37, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you very much! If you see too many hits from only a few wikis, maybe you can try excluding those wikis first. Ten samples per wiki should be more than enough. Looks like hawiki might be the first to go: https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:AbuseLog&wpSearchFilter=401 ponor (talk) 21:00, 8 June 2026 (UTC)

- You want a filter to track something because of a phab ticket, but that ticket is old and no one is working on it. Do you intend to work on the ticket yourself? — xaosflux Talk 12:49, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
- CC to @Ponor. Also, filter 401 was disabled without any explanation, but at least such explanation should have been provided. Codename Noreste (talk • contribs) 16:55, 13 June 2026 (UTC)

Event organizer for Michelle Jones (WMLGBT)
[edit]Global user: Michelle Jones (WMLGBT) (talk • contribs • User rights • global contributions • CentralAuth • block log)
Reason for request: I am requesting the Event organizer right on Meta-Wiki so that I can create and manage event pages and registration for Wikimedia-related work activities, including edit-a-thons, online trainings, community events, and campaign activities.
I need the right in order to use the Event Registration tool, including enabling registration on event pages I create, editing event registration information, managing participant lists, and communicating with registered participants when needed.
This is a work-related account used by me only. I will disclose my relevant affiliation on my user page and will follow Wikimedia policies, including privacy and responsible handling of participant information.
Thank you.

Hello,

I meet the eligibility requirements for this permission, including having no active blocks on Wikimedia projects and maintaining constructive contributions across Wikimedia platforms. These tools will help me create, manage, and monitor events in a more organized and transparent manner.
Thank you for considering my request.
