Hungarian tagline of pages
Someone mistranslated something a few weeks ago, and since that time there has been "A Metaből" on the top of every page, which stands for "From Meta" and is really stupid and meaningless. Please revert it to "A Metából", as it had been previously. Thanks, Bináris 23:13, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
- If you're talking about the tagline, it is supposed to say "From Meta". If that's not the case, please explain what "A Metából" means and where exactly it should be changed. Thanks --filip ⁂ 23:50, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
- In English it says "From Meta", indicating that the content on the page originated here on the meta wiki, if in Hungarian this literal phrase means something else, it can be changed. I don't see a Hungarian page listed at the links to MediaWiki:Tagline though. xaosflux Talk 00:20, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
I speak about tagline hu, and I don' understand either why it does not appear among other languages with prefindex.
- A Metaből — this does not mean anything, I don't know who and why has put it there.
- A Metából — this means literally "From Meta". This is the correct version. Bináris 16:55, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
I have listed Special:Prefindex with namespace MediaWiki and a have found very few /hu messages, there are some only at centralmessages, although I get a lot of Hungarian messages on Meta with my preferences set to Hungarian, and I am sorry to say that not all of them are correct. Where may those messages be if not in Special:Prefindex / MediaWiki namespace? Bináris 17:21, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
It becomes more and more mysterious. MediaWiki:Tagline/hu is not only hidden when listing http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3APrefixindex&namespace=8 but it does not have a page history either, while other langauge versions do have. The contents of it is: A {{SITENAME}}ből which may hardly be applied, beacuse sitename Meta changes when declining. But I do remember this tagline had previously been correct. Bináris 17:42, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, it has been added to betawiki: taken from hu.wiki, I correct it there, please be patient until it updates on all wikis, (p.s. Metá is not possible, since it takes Meta from {{SITENAME)} ) thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 18:05, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. Well, previously itt had been correct, and up to this time I thought Wikimedia was well internationalized. It is only correct in the form 'A Metából', with the mark on the á. Either Sitename should be applied to the languages Wikimedia uses or it should not be used in this case. I don't understand its importance, for the name of the Meta does not change very often and thus needs no substitution. On the other hand, this whatnot cannot be taken from huwiki, because the tagline of huwiki looks like this. Bináris 18:23, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hm, I searched the deletionlog here and on betawiki: for the version A Metából, but it is not there, sorry. I hope that [grammar:genitive works I added it on betawiki:MediaWiki:Tagline/hu (for the Sitename = Betawiki it does not work, but maybe it is not defined, I am trying to find out where it is and hopefully we can fix that, maybe I will need Your help for other Projects in genitive, You can register an account on betawiki: if You wish and You will be granted translator if You are interested in this, many thanks and best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 18:43, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
At this point it becomes really funny, because betawiki's Hungarian tagline is A Betawikiból, which is wrong again, because it should be A Betawikiből. I try to ask help from our experts. Thank you, Bináris 18:52, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
- No, I am sorry, that was just me, because You said ből did not mean anything I changed it to ból, I am deleting it again. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 19:03, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hungarian is not the easiest language. :-))) It belongs to agglutinative languages, but the suffix may depend on the root itself. Bináris 19:30, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
- That makes it quite impossible to get this message to work properly, maybe better only putting there something in the nominative? Something like "From the project Wikipedia/Meta/Betawiki" ?
- Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 19:37, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
- This idea is grammatically correct, but complicated and won't sound well and fluent in Hungarian. Another point of view: why is {{SITENAME}} necessary if it does not work? The soultion below I don't exactly understand (as far as I see, grammar is not a template, but where can I find its syntax then?), I try to bring here technical experts. Fortunately, Hungarian Wikipedia uses its own tagline in Hungarian. :-) Bináris 20:21, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hungarian is not the easiest language. :-))) It belongs to agglutinative languages, but the suffix may depend on the root itself. Bináris 19:30, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
- You need to fix the message to something like MediaWiki:Tagline/ru (view source) and either 1) provide code for inflection 2) or provide a list of forms and ask in bugzilla to add them to meta site setup (example). – Nikerabbit 20:05, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
- @Bináris, the problem is, that the tagline is then incorrect if someone chooses hungarian as interface language on other projects, we try to make the interface work on any project, so please consider Nikerabbits solution, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 20:24, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
Tagline was changed here; before it was {{SITENAME}}BÓL, which is wrong too (plus its uppercase for no good reason). Huwiki hides the tagline through CSS (and its localized there, of course). There is no grammar function defined for Hungarian yet; the grammatically correct form depends on the pronunciation of the word, which is mostly but not always the same as the spelling, so a 100% corect form is AFAIK impossible. We could come up with a good approximation though. --Tgr 12:13, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, as far as I understood Nikerabbits proposal it would solve the problem, Finnish had the same problem as Hungarian, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 12:26, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

No, Filip. You have broken it. Please copy all the text in the talk page as it is and paste it over all the text of the message. (Don't try to edit the message yourself. It is hard to write Arabic in an ltr wiki. Every Arabic Wikimedian knows this.) --Meno25 19:40, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Category:Meta protected edit requests lists pages where an editor has requested an edit be made which is not possible due to protection. Could I ask that an administrator look at dealing with those requests especially considering that it appears some date back to June 2007. Adambro 18:25, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

- Okay, nice one. Over on the English Wikinews we have mw:Extension:DynamicPageList installed which allows for a list of page in a category to be display on the Wikinews equivalent of this page. However, if this could be on Meta:Administrators' discussion index or another similar page it would be very helpful. Adambro 20:03, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
- Adambro - check out Bryan bot's category watch side of the bot on Commons and let us know what you think. I think I set it up to monitor similar pages there (unblock reqs & the like - not well monitored on Commons!). I also use it personally to watch for additions to categories that interest me - I think it could be useful here? Cheers --Herby talk thyme 08:03, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Page unprotect ?
Request your attention to Template_talk:Translation_status#Please_add_ml. Also, I wonder why the template is protected? --Jacob 18:48, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
- Because it is highly used and vandalized in the past. (good target to spam)
- Some editors, iirc, removed the languages which we want to include. It should be prevented.
- And not unhappily, "This list is not designed to cover all language of this globe for convenience of coordinators. Your edit may be removed on Transcom member discretion." (on the template page). It has a technical limitation so not appropriate to open, specially we are considering the two points on the above.
As for Marathi, it is a language with big population, I'm happily including it. Thanks for pointing us to it. --Aphaia 22:53, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
