From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Cleaning required of Special:BlockList

Having a look at Special:BlockList there are old old old 2006 blocks of "Open proxies" which on checking does not seem to be the case. I would think that we should be looking to review the old blocks (eg. http://www.stopforumspam.com/search) and if it is clear, then remove the block. It is my firm opinion that generally up to the maximum that we should be blocking an IP locally is one year unless there is a demonstrated history of returning after that year. This is meta, the central coordination place, so longer blocks would generally align with a global block anyway so stewards should have an awareness of the issue. — billinghurst sDrewth 00:00, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Here is a small list of a few indefinite proxy like blocks that are no longer needed and could be removed. I would have done them myself but I do not hold admin rights on this wiki. Plus when I get more time, I will likely expand that list. John F. Lewis (talk) 22:07, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
Unblocked all of those. PiRSquared17 (talk) 22:30, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

Attempt on old account

Hello Admins, I request your help on following issue

In the past I had different userID's on different wiki's so all were SULéd in --DerekvG (talk) 13:29, 6 December 2013 (UTC)DerekvG

Yesterday I received following email Someone (probably you, from IP address 70.36.25.194) requested a reset of your password for Meta (<http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page>). The following user account is associated with this email address: Username: Derek Temporary password: ---------- This temporary password will expire in * days. You should log in and choose a new password now. If someone else made this request, or if you have remembered your original password, and you no longer wish to change it, you may ignore this message and continue using your old password.

A WHOIS check of the IP adress revealed it located in Dallas

Could you check if any follow up should be made thanks --DerekvG (talk) 13:30, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

@DerekvG: Assume good faith. :-) It's probably just someone else named Derek who is confused about the usernames, and thought it was their account. There is evidence to support this hypothesis: this edit from two days ago on enwiki from the same IP address. No action needed probably. PiRSquared17 (talk) 19:27, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Request for status MassMessage sender

I would like to request the status of MassMessage sender as it is mentioned on Meta:MassMessage senders. I have access to the predecessor of MassMessage: EdwardsBot via the access list: Global message delivery/Access list, but this bot stops at the end of this month. Each month I send out the newsletter This Month in GLAM and would like to have the ability to continue that. Romaine (talk) 09:34, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

Add MediaWiki message delivery to bot user group

Hi. Could a bureaucrat please add MediaWiki message delivery to the bot user group? This account is the successor to EdwardsBot. --MZMcBride (talk) 21:07, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

Done. --MF-W 21:09, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
My goodness that was quick. Thanks! --MZMcBride (talk) 21:10, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

troublesome IP at en.wikiquote

Could someone block IP 12.197.241.153 on English Wikiquote? He is vandalizing user pages and there seems to be no active local admin to block him. Thanks ~ DanielTom (talk) 00:42, 24 December 2013 (UTC)

Done. -- Mentifisto 00:48, 24 December 2013 (UTC)
@DanielTom: For future reference, you can use Vandalism reports or SRM, but this is for requests for a local Meta admin. Not that it really matters where you report such things... PiRSquared17 (talk) 00:16, 25 December 2013 (UTC)
Okay thanks, I'll keep that in mind. ~ DanielTom (talk) 09:06, 25 December 2013 (UTC)

RFPP

Can an admin semi-protect User talk:Beau for a long period? Unless someone actually enjoys playing the reverting game with Wikinger. INeverCry 00:13, 25 December 2013 (UTC)

Does Beau want it protected? PiRSquared17 (talk) 00:15, 25 December 2013 (UTC)
Beau's been inactive here since May. The only person using the talkpage is the locked sockmaster Wikinger. Why make people revert over and over and waste their time? INeverCry 00:19, 25 December 2013 (UTC)
Protected for three months as it seems unlikely another non-autoconfirmed user will contact him (and his talkpage on plwiki is unprotected anyways). If User:Beau wants, I can change the protection settings. It can be extended if needed. PiRSquared17 (talk) 00:25, 25 December 2013 (UTC)
I hate to have WIkinger vandalise some other (talk)page, but could someone please also handle my talkpage? Gets vandalised too, and I provide a direct email contact there. Wojciech Pędzich Talk 07:57, 25 December 2013 (UTC)
Done. -Barras talk 09:29, 25 December 2013 (UTC)
Thank you. Wojciech Pędzich Talk 12:14, 25 December 2013 (UTC)

Can't create account

Hi, i need to create an account for my future bot. And i want very much for him the username X-bot, but i can't create account under this username due to an error (click here). I want to ask you, can you create this account for me?
SUL Info for X-bot // -- // XXN (talk) 00:33, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

Which wiki are you wanting to create the account on? If on frwiki you will have to ask at their local place for this. If you are wanting to create it on enwiki, please fill this out and I'll be happy to process it. Since that message seems to be only available on both those wikis. John F. Lewis (talk) 15:37, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
Did you try to create this account on a wiki different from enwiki or frwiki? If you did and it didn't work, then please email me (or any admin on any wiki) an email so he has an email adress to send you the pasword for your new account to. Savhñ 15:42, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
Done, you should have received a mail with a temporary password for that account. Savhñ 18:09, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
Yes. Thank you. XXN (talk) 14:56, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

Wikimedia Tools Labs

Hi, I've been using MediaWiki:Sp-contributions-footer and MediaWiki:Sp-contributions-footer-anon in order to move my way around the wiki, checking global contribs, user subpages, user rights etc. I noticed that User:Krinkle changed some of the URL addresses to point to Wikimedia Tools Labs, but currently the pages are servicing me 404s and the tools are becoming unusable. I would like to know whether this is a problem on my end, a problem with Wikimedia Tools Labs (which may or may not be temporary), or a problem with our current layout to sp-contributions-footer, and perhaps what I can do to amend this problem. TeleComNasSprVen (talk) 21:33, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

It's not at your end. It's a temporary problem with labs. Come in #wikimedia-labs (public log) if you want to discuss it. PiRSquared17 (talk) 21:39, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
@TeleComNasSprVen: "<Coren> Should be fixed." Apparently Coren reverted his badly-tested patch... PiRSquared17 (talk) 21:55, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
