Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Khowar

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
submitted verification final decision

This language has been verified as eligible.
The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page.

Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval and will verify the test project content with a reliable neutral source, such as a professor or expert.

If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval.

A committee member provided the following comment:

See bug T160865. --MF-W 20:49, 19 March 2017 (UTC) The approval was rescinded as it turned out that the ostensibly high number of editors was in fact only one person using sockpuppets. The committee will only consider this again if in the future the activity criteria are met without the use of socks. --MF-W 02:12, 15 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What Value Example / Explanation
Proposal
Language code khw (SILGlottolog) A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ...

  • Support As a sysop of the Wikipedia Khowar (Chitrali Language Wikipedia), I am proposing a Khowar (Chitrali) Wikipedia edition. Khowar is one of spoken languages in Chitral(Pakistan), Swat(Pakistan), Gilgit-Baltistan(Pakistan), Xingjing(China), Sheghnan(Afghanistan), Chatur(India), and there is an increasing interest among young native speakers towards developing the language. It will be useful to Khowar internet users to report news from worldwide. Approximately, there are 10 million of speakers worldwide. I strongly feel it deserves its own Wikipedia. I have recently created test Khowar Wikipedia at Khowar Wikpedia.--Rehmat Aziz Chitrali 10:00, 14December 2010 (UTC)

Arguments in favour[edit]

  • Support Support: I can't find a single site on the internet written in Khowar except Khowar Academy website. Wikipedia will be the second, and therefore provide a much needed area for the preservation of this peculiar language. -- Akbaralighazi 06:02, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: Native speakers of Khowar have the competency and willingness to contribute to this project in the long-term. Hence the Khowar language deserves to be given the opportunity and privilege to have its own language edition of Wikipedia along with the existing Pakistani languages such as Urdu, Punjabi, Pashto, Sindhi and Brahui. -- Mirajbibi 06:05, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Correct SVG/PNG logo created in 2015, see above.

  • Dear sir.Liuxinyu970226, please check this revised and big size logo for Khowar Wikipedia i.e.

-- Rehmat Aziz Chitrali 07:22, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Does it use a free font? The Wikimedia Foundation recommends the KACST Office or Pak Type Tehreer fonts for Wikipedia logos for Arabic-script languages, although the Farsi Wikipedia uses the Nazli font, so presumably that would also be okay.
That logo also looks substantially darker than the normal Wikipedia logos, and I don't understand why there's a letter above the globe there. --Yair rand (talk) 00:10, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
My Dear Mr.Yair rand, these ݱ,ݯ,ݮ,ݰ,څ,ځ are the special characters of Khowar language. Khowar language supports Microsoft Uighur font, Sakkal Majalla font and Nafees Pakistani web naskh font. In this khowar lannguge wikipedia we are using Tahoma font. like other letter on the globe I have added the khowar letter ݰ for Khowar Wikipedia only. If this logo is not acceptable then i'll design another logo removing the khowar letter from the globe, Cheers--Rehmat Aziz Chitrali 15:05, 19 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Dcljr: @Shangkuanlc: waiting for your suggestions--RAChitrali 09:07, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure why I was brought into this, since my only connection to this request (as far as I recall) is that I made a single edit to the talk page (a revert) two years ago. Perhaps you meant someone else? - dcljr (talk) 09:53, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
