Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat (at Meta-Wiki only)

Meta-Wiki has a small active community. When a normal user requires the assistance of an administrator or bureaucrat for some particular task, it is not always easy to find one. This page helps users find one when they need one; asking specific admins directly via their talk pages is one way to elicit a fast response. It is only for assistance required at Meta-Wiki, help for other wikis needs to be requested at those wikis.

Blacklist shortcuts

@Lp0 on fire recently retargeted SBL to Talk:Spam blacklist. It used to be a disambiguation page, which is now at SBL (disambiguation) (the {{disambiguation}} does not seem to support "(disambiguation)" titles), but that page is not even linked from anywhere. Meanwhile, TBL links to Title blacklist (rather than the talk page), which has a notice about MediaWiki:Titleblacklist at the top. Would it be better to point SBL to Spam blacklist with a similar note to MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist? ~~~~

I targeted SBL to the talk page because as a shortcut I felt it should point to the page that people are likely to want to navigate to. It's not obvious to me what benefit there would be to adding an extra click to the workflow of reporting a URL (and if an admin wants to action a request, including a request of their own, they're still likely to go to the talk page first, either to see the report or to document their addition and provide a comment to be given to {{sbl-log}}). Retargeting the shortcut to the page itself would be neater but I'm not sure it would be helpful. The title blacklist is a much lower-traffic page and not one I have really engaged with, so I can't say whether it's more helpful to have a shortcut for the page itself or the talk page. lp0 on fire () 20:52, 22 September 2026 (UTC)

At least as an admin, when I enter "SBL" I would want to get to the blacklist, e.g. to check what domain is on it (though personally I mostly interact with the title blacklist). To me it seems more intuitive. At least the note about MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist should be added at Spam blacklist, and the disambiguation page should probably be deleted. ~~~~

Reason: I am organizing COMMIT FOR GOOD 2026 through WikiClub Tech MUJ and would like to create and manage the event page and enable Event Registration/RSVP on Meta-Wiki.

@Nanda Meet: While I suppose you do meet the technical granting requirements listed at Meta:Event organizers, you have 8 global edits, 3 of which are uploading posters for your claimed event (which promotes a prize pool as part of the event?), and your edits on Meta consist of creating your userpage, immediately requesting event organizer, and then making an event page. Basically, my question is whether you understand how the events function works, and I don't think you do at the present time. I'll leave this open for a 2O, but I don't see myself granting at the current time for lack of any experience on WMF projects. EggRoll97 (talk) 22:02, 8 October 2026 (UTC)

Event organizer right request

Username: User:Sneha Forestry

Reason: I am organizing Wiki Loves Birds India 2026, a national bird photography and documentation campaign aimed at encouraging contributions to Wikimedia Commons and improving biodiversity-related content across Wikimedia projects. The campaign will involve birdwatchers, wildlife photographers, students, educators and citizen scientists from different regions of India.

I would like to request the Event Organizer right on Meta-Wiki to create and manage the event page and use the Event Registration functionality to facilitate participant registration and manage registrations. Salting user+talk pages of old pages or harassed users

An attempt to respond on the User_talk:NDG has resulted in the following message Salting user+talk pages of old pages or harassed users. I believe it was a constructive comment (see above) and nothing abusive. The message goes on to say "If you believe your action was constructive, please infom an adminstrator of what you were trying to do".

The original comment I tried to submit was:

I recently had similar experiences with the user, where he said stuff like Appointing such a person as a global administrator is no different from handing a lit match to a monkey and turning it loose to burn down an entire village and town or clear symptom of someone drunk on power, see here.
