Help

Stewards needed attention on continuous gross insults and personal attacks going on me And usernamekiran on Marathi and english Wikipedia. This comes in light when user:usernamekiran nominated the articles of this director for deletion. The harassment is done by this sockmaster by using IP addresses and now a new vandalism account Usernamekiran tiven gosavi (talk · contribs) used to abuse us. The sock master is vandalising IMDB and adding my name falsely claiming that i am doing paid editing on wikipedia. The user has altogether more than 15 socks which have even blocked globally. The list are this and this. The user is using IP 106.78.172.6 106.77.52.123 as well as 106.77.54.223 to vandalise mrwp the user even is giving abusing badwords on our local bureaucrat usertalkpage. Requesting blocking of all socks globally as well as finding out if more socks via CU to stop this cross wiki abuse and vandalism.

Please even delete mr:युजरनेम किरण a insulting page on mrwp made by the sock. --Tiven2240 (talk) 06:43, 9 November 2018 (UTC)
I had no idea about the other accounts. After the deletion discussion mentioned above, I was abused at marathi Wikipedia (permalink). I had to request to protect the talkpage. There, the IP claimed I had taken money from other film producer/director, and got their articles deleted because I didn't receive any compensation from them. The language used there was profane too. I found out about mr:युजरनेम किरण after this post from Tiven. It a highly insulting page. They literally claimed I am Hitler, and "whoever disagrees with me, gets their bum swollen".
As Tiven mentioned above, this vandalism ranges not just on cross wiki, but on other websites as well. I don't know what we can do on WP to stop them though. —usernamekiran(talk) 07:15, 9 November 2018 (UTC)

Scrutineers needed for enwiki ArbCom elections

The enwiki needs Stewards from other wikis to serve as Scrutineers for the enwiki ArbCom elections, starting on 00:00 December 3, 2018 (UTC). Instructions for the scrutineers can be found at en:Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee Elections December 2018/Coordination/Instructions for scrutineers. Thanks—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 14:49, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

I would be happy to help anytime as I did before Mardetanha talk 21:09, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
Perfect. I'll go and get a motion filed to get you guys CU on enwiki.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 21:10, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

@Linedwell: I have added you to the reserve list.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 14:40, 9 November 2018 (UTC)
@Cyberpower678: Thank you. Linedwell [talk] 15:46, 11 November 2018 (UTC)

Assign CU to appointed enwiki scrutineers

The ArbCom motion has passed which will grant temporary CU to User:-revi, User:علاء, and User:Mardetanha. Per the scrutineers guide they can begin working at the start of the voting period which is the start of November 19, 2018. If a steward could assign them CU at that time, it would be greatly appreciated. :-)—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 04:16, 14 November 2018 (UTC)

@Cyberpower678: I think it's already done before 5 days! --Alaa :)..! 08:15, 14 November 2018 (UTC)
Looks like I wasn’t informed. :p—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 12:36, 14 November 2018 (UTC)

Could a steward please speedy close this? Dschungelfan is not blocked indefinitely on any wiki and thus fails criterion 3 of Global bans; also, no effort has been made to provide the proper notifications to communities. --Rschen7754 06:13, 24 November 2018 (UTC)

Closed. — regards, Revi 06:26, 24 November 2018 (UTC)

Hacking attack

Tracked in Phabricator:
Task T210192

Dozens of accounts on the English Wikipedia have been apparently compromised in the last few days. May want to monitor en:WP:ANI and other boards. funplussmart (talk) 18:50, 22 November 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the notification. I know a few of us have been keeping an eye on the situation. – Ajraddatz (talk) 19:22, 22 November 2018 (UTC)

On a side note, with the new WMF directive regarding interface admins, are stewards required to use two-factor? --Rschen7754 20:55, 22 November 2018 (UTC)

Yes, that requirement has been communicated to us. – Ajraddatz (talk) 21:02, 22 November 2018 (UTC)
Truly idiotic. Even in the newest attack no stewards are affected. --MF-W 00:25, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
Which "WMF directive" are you referring to? I seem to have missed it. --Vogone (talk) 00:30, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
It was referred to here. --Rschen7754 00:35, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
I asked OFFICE team to post their requirements publicly somewhere - they are trying to decide where right now. — xaosflux Talk 01:34, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for sharing! However, I have not received any wikimail, neither here nor on Wikidata. Perhaps this only affects enwiki? --Vogone (talk) 02:26, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
Garzo's account got hacked and vandalized the Main Page. I recommend having a highly visible warning telling users to change their passwords now. funplussmart (talk) 19:46, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
It is not a matter of changing your password, unless you are sharing passwords from other places, or they are easily guessed. It is a matter of having a unique and complex password, and/or 2FA. If you have a single-use complex password, then it is not going to be deducted, changing to another single-use complex password doesn't make a difference.  — billinghurst sDrewth 22:25, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
And we just lost Killiondude. Same pattern of disruption. Thanks to Shanmugamp7 for locking the account. funplussmart (talk) 20:25, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
I also have not received anything, though I am an IA in three projects. It will be probably coming next week, after which I am going to decide whether I need these permissions, or to ask WMF every time I need to edit a script.--Ymblanter (talk) 19:37, 25 November 2018 (UTC)

2FA

Hello Stewards, I've opened a meta RfC Meta:Requests for comment/Enable 2FA on meta for all users that if successful may eliminate the need for you to process oath-testers anymore. Your insight in to handling these requests and any caveats would be welcome at the RfC. Thank you, — xaosflux Talk 18:47, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
