Welcome to Meta![edit]

Hello Linedwell!, and welcome to the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki! This website is for coordinating and discussing all Wikimedia projects. You may find it useful to read our policy page. If you are interested in doing translations, visit Meta:Babylon. You can also leave a note on Meta:Babel or Wikimedia Forum (please read the instructions at the top of the page before posting there). Happy editing! — Mikhailov Kusserow (talk) 01:30, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

A barnstar for you![edit]

This barnstar is given to you for your help with the 2011 fundraiser translation.

Hi! I just want to thank you and give you this barnstar for your help with the translation of the 2011 fundraiser! The fundraiser was the best we ever had, both in terms of the amount we collected and in terms of number of translations. We couldn't have done either one without the help we got from you and other translators. If you are interested, we made a report, which has some statistics about the translations.

And: I have one more request, and that is that you take this survey. You may have got an e-mail about it, and if you did, please ignore this. But if you didn't it would be great if you would take this survey too, so we can learn to improve the translation experience.

Again, thanks for your help with translations – you're awesome! Jon Harald Søby (WMF) 13:31, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for the Barnstar, it will be one little more motivation to help with translations in the future. Sorry for my awfull english, I 'm not very good in foreign languages. --Linedwell@frwiki 16:31, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Fundraising translation feedback[edit]

Hey Linedwell,

I wanted to ask for your help. As you may be aware we have been running banners on many language wikis. We have a lot of new content this year and I really want to conduct a thorough review of our translations. This is a combination of feedback from the community, readers, donors as well as those with professional translator experience. This will help us ensure the highest quality of translations used in our messaging.

To help us out with this I wonder if you would be willing to give us feedback in french using This Link

Simply follow the simple instructions on that page and if you have any questions feel free to contact me on my talk page.

Many Thanks

Jseddon (WMF) (talk) 07:20, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

Boris Vian[edit]

Salut Linedwell

Userbox template[edit]

Hi, I noticed that the latest SWMT userbox edit removed its capability to be placed at the centre... can that be added or go back to hard-coding if it had more options? -- Mentifisto 21:30, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

@Mentifisto: Hi, it seems SWMT userbox lost is capability to be centered (like every other userbox, {{User OTRS}}, {{User admin}}, ...) but this capacity wasn't "excpected" for an userbox. About the hardcoding I don't think this is a good idea for 1 reason, the size of this "fake box" isn't the same than the "true boxes". Linedwell@frwiki (talk) 22:23, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
What do you mean by fake and true boxes? Including <center> will change its size? -- Mentifisto 18:41, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
@Mentifisto: I call "true" infobox the ones using the {{Userbox}} template. The previous box had a different size than the boxes using {{Userbox}}. Adding the <center> wouldn't change the size. But it would "break" the displays of regular boxes and this one when used on the same page. Linedwell@frwiki (talk) 19:02, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
'Float' is a parameter on enwiki's template... would that also alter the size? Only problem is, it doesn't seem to be able to align to the center... -- Mentifisto 02:10, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
@Mentifisto: Float doesn't alter the size, and yes "center" isn't a valid parameter to the float property (allowed ones are: "none", "left", "right", "initial" and "inherit" (float property documentation). Linedwell@frwiki (talk) 10:04, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

37.144.145.16[edit]

Hello! Will you look, please, at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/37.144.145.16 That seems to be a destructive bot. What do you think about it? Domitori (talk) 04:12, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

@Domitori: Hi, it seems to be a bot but edit summary is one of commons:Mediawiki:Gadget-AjaxQuickDelete.js that is enabled (by default) for everyone (including non logged users) on Commons. Kindly, Linedwell@frwiki (talk) 11:21, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
There is similar case at the Russian version of wikisource, but this time the bot is handled by the registered user Lozman, who removes the text of the following authors:
The texts are moved to some strange site http://wikilivres.ru
There, the user with the same nick Lozman removes them with pretext of violation of the copyright
(the licenses from Wikisource are not transferred to that site).
You may look for the example at
Do you think, such an activity also should be allowed? Domitori (talk) 13:21, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

Congratulations![edit]

Hello Linedwell,

On behalf of the stewards' election committee, congratulations on your election as a steward! Your permissions have now been set and you are able to start working.

You have been added to the list of stewards and the stewards' chart. Please take a moment to check that your details are accurate and update them if necessary.

You have been given access to the mailing lists related to your steward duties, which include: checkuser-l, the private mailing list for Wikimedia checkusers, stewards-l, the private list for stewards. In addition, you have been or will be given access to the related private wikis, one for checkusers and the other solely for stewards, details of which will be provided.

If you use IRC, you will be given access to several channels, including #wikimedia-checkuserconnect and #wikimedia-privacyconnect. Please also idle in #wikimedia-stewardsconnect when you are available for duty.

Best of luck with your new tools; I am sure you will do a fantastic job. Please remember that your fellow stewards are always available if you need a second opinion, either via the mailing list or on IRC.

bot request[edit]

Linedwell can you confirm some of the bot request as a steward?-Mr wikilover (talk) 09:34, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

Renommage ?[edit]

Bonjour Linedwell,

Cordialement, Linedwell (talk) 08:20, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

Please sign new Wikimedia confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information by 15 December[edit]

This is a message from the Wikimedia Foundation. Translations are available.

Wikimedia Foundation logo - vertical (2012-2016).svg

As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" on 25 April 2014 after a community consultation. The former policy has remained in place until the new policy could be implemented. That implementation work is now being done, and we are beginning the transition to the new policy.

An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.

The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that anyone with access to nonpublic information sign the new confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain their access. You are receiving this email because you have access to nonpublic information and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy.

Signing the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information is conducted and tracked using Legalpad on Phabricator. The general confidentiality agreement is now ready, and the OTRS agreement will be ready after 22 September 2015. We have prepared a guide on Meta-Wiki to help you create your Phabricator account and sign the new agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign

If you have any questions or experience any problems while signing the new agreement, please visit this talk page or email me (gvarnum@wikimedia.org). Again, please sign this confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain your access to nonpublic information. If you do not wish to retain this access, please let me know and we will forward your request to the appropriate individuals.

Thank you,
Gregory Varnum (User:GVarnum-WMF), Wikimedia Foundation

WM PL toolserver block[edit]

Thnks for softenning the block!

BTW, could you hint me any way how can we avoid such accidental blocks in future? Is adding all bots operating from this server the ipblock-extempt right on all projects they are active in the only way? Unfortunately, if the bots are stopped for longer period of time as such a block is not noticed, resetting their maintenance work to the right way is highly time consuming. Ankry (talk) 18:38, 27 November 2015 (UTC)

@Ankry: I suppose the only way to avoid this accidental block in future is looking at the block log before to block. For very active bots, a global IP Block Exempt can be requested here. Kindely, Linedwell (talk) 19:33, 27 November 2015 (UTC)
Thx. Local extempts would be enough in theese cases as no bot is highly active on more than 3-4 projects. Unfortunately, MediaWiki:Autoblock_whitelist seems to no longer work (phab:T119758) Ankry (talk) 21:01, 27 November 2015 (UTC)

Linedwell (talk) 17:57, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

Should FuzzyBot remove all potentially outdated translations?[edit]

Confirmation discussions[edit]

Dear Linedwell,

As you probably know, the confirmation discussions for Stewards have been closed. In order to determine the outcome of these discussions, you are invited to comment on Talk:Stewards/Confirm/2016 before scheduled closure of the confirmation section "one week after the appointment of the newly elected stewards" (Sunday 6th of March, 17:22 UTC), though the closing time might be extended at the ElectCom's discretion for an extra week if it is believed "further input is required before concluding". All stewards are welcome to comment, including those newly elected.

For those who ran for confirmation, consider revising comments regarding you, and replying to those where appropriate. Savhñ 08:01, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

Sysop flag on maiwiki[edit]

Namaste Linedwell,
First! Sorry for my behaviour, I was stressed with my real life problems and my recent RFA on wikidata was not successful. So that i think to retired but now I'm ok and want to back to my works. So, Can my sysop right be back or not? Regards, TBhagat (talk) 12:53, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

@Tulsi Bhagat: Hi, I'm sorry but once a flag is removed the only way to regain it is a local RFA (and a new consensus). That's why we usually wait 24h before to proceed to the removal. Regards, Linedwell (talk) 13:19, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
It's ok. I'll processed for local discussion then. Regards, TBhagat (talk) 13:28, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

User:名猿 probably has resurfaced[edit]

I am not sure if this is the proper place to report this but you locked User:名猿 last time. I think this user has reappeared as User:Houming180, who has the same fascination with "gay" and whose username is very similar (名猿 in Mandarin Pinyin spells as "ming hou".) N3ew throaway acount (talk) 07:22, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

@N3ew throaway acount: Hello and thanks for this information. The account Houming180 isn't currently blocked on any wiki, so we, stewards, can't lock him. Regards, Linedwell (talk) 07:39, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

2016 Community Wishlist Survey[edit]

Hi,

You’re getting this message because you participated in the 2015 Community Wishlist Survey and we want to make sure you don't miss it this year – or at least can make the conscious choice to ignore if it you want to. The 2015 survey decided what the Community Tech team should work on during 2016. It was also the focus of Wikimedia hackathons and work by other developers. You can see the status of wishes from the 2015 wishlist at 2015 Community Wishlist Survey/Results.

The 2016 Community Wishlist Survey is now open for wishes. You can create proposals until November 20. You will be able to vote on which wishes you think are best or most important between November 28 and December 12. /Johan (WMF) (talk) via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 11:17, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

No renaming between November 20 and November 27[edit]

Hi,

You’re getting this because you’re a steward or global renamer. The Community Tech team are working on cross-wiki watchlists. We need to add a couple of fields to the localuser table in centralauth database. In order to be able to do this, we’d need to run a script that will get in the way of renaming users. Our apologies – we realize this is getting in the way of your work.

We ask that you do not rename anyone between 00:00 November 20 (UTC) and 00:00 November 27 (UTC).

(UTC means that if you live in the Americas, it will be on the evening or afternoon of November 19 when the script starts running, and if you live in Oceania or eastern Asia, it can be closer midday on November 27 before we can be sure the script is no longer running.)

Phabricator task.

If there are any problems related to this, or you have any questions, please write me on my talk page. /Johan (WMF) (talk) via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 19:39, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

Re: Your administrator status on the mgwiki[edit]

Salut,

Bien cordialement, -- AlNo (talk) 14:59, 21 March 2017 (UTC)

Bien cordialement, -- AlNo (talk) 15:04, 13 July 2017 (UTC)
D'accord, bon retour. Linedwell [talk] 07:30, 15 July 2017 (UTC)

logging[edit]

Linedwell, could you please log these additions per instructions. Though they are pretty obvious, we'd prefer to have it properly logged for any questions in the future. Thanks! --Dirk Beetstra T C (en: U, T) 03:36, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

SOS[edit]

Sysop Removal of access[edit]

Hello, we have been waiting for sysop removal of access for Xoser of Zazaki Wikipedia since almost a week. Xoser used two sock puppets for local dicussion (Neribij and Kirmanciye) although we stated that Zazaki Wikipedia is so small and a third sysop is needless and so there is a consensus about remove Xoser's sysop access. When will we receive answer? [1] Vuzorg (talk) 18:03, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

I agree with Vuzorg. -- Mirzali (talk) 20:09, 25 April 2017 (UTC)
Me, too. Unfortunately I can't see qualitative contributions of these guys. --asmên 22:05, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

Notification[edit]

Salut Linedwell. Bonne journée, Jmvkrecords (Intra talk) 04:38, 7 May 2017 (UTC).

Cordialement, Linedwell [talk] 05:02, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

Question[edit]

Hi, I wonder did you grant this user a permanent adminship? In my opinion it should be a temporary as the wiki is a new. Regards, Stryn (talk) 16:51, 15 May 2017 (UTC)

@Stryn: You must be right, I didn't take into account the fact it was a new wiki. How long should this temporary adminship be ? One year ? Linedwell [talk] 17:13, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
I would say 3 months first as there were quite many voters. I also know new wikis where the first adminship was only 1 month, then 3 months, then 6 months and so on... but I think 3 months is a good start. Stryn (talk) 17:15, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
@Stryn: OK, then I will set it as 3 months. Linedwell [talk] 17:20, 15 May 2017 (UTC)

Merci et nouvelle demande[edit]

Bonjour Linedwell. Jmvkrecords (Intra talk) 05:38, 30 May 2017 (UTC).

Linedwell [talk] 07:23, 30 May 2017 (UTC)

Ticket#2017072710002911[edit]

Bonjour Linedwell !

Cordialement, Linedwell [talk] 20:07, 31 July 2017 (UTC)

Help design a new feature to stop harassing emails[edit]

Hi there,

The Anti-Harassment Tools team plans to start develop of a new feature to allow users to restrict emails from new accounts. This feature will allow an individual user to stop harassing emails from coming through the Special:EmailUser system from abusive sockpuppeting accounts.

We’re inviting you to join the discussion because you have experience dealing with abusive sockpuppeting accounts and you work across many wikis. We think that your insights will help us build a better feature.

You can leave comments on this discussion page or send an email to the Anti-Harassment Tools team.

It is important to hear from a broad range of people who are interested in the design of the tool, so we hope you join the discussion and let us know how it would work best for you.

OS on Wikidata[edit]

Hello,

Until I resign, Wikidata has its own OS team and requests should be directed to us. Thanks, – Ajraddatz (talk) 15:19, 30 October 2017 (UTC)

@Ajraddatz: The requester contacted me regarding this point on WD:OS : "In emergencies (e. g. when no local oversighter is available), oversight requests can be referred to the stewards, who can be contacted at stewards at wikimedia.org." Best regards, Linedwell [talk] 15:36, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
Hi, no oversighter was online on #wikidata, so I contacted Linedwell who was online. Regards. --Thibaut120094 (talk) 15:50, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
We have a mailing list for exactly such purposes. oversight at wikidata.org – Ajraddatz (talk) 15:52, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
This is concerning - more attempts to contact local oversighters apparently should have been made. If you are using the emergency clause (which is really the case for any wiki with local oversighters), that should be clearly indicated in the log, and the oversight action should be particularly time-sensitive (i.e. not just somebody logged out and needing to hide their IP) and not addressable by revdel. Local oversighters should then be notified so that they can review the action. --Rschen7754 00:55, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
@Rschen7754: You are right, I should have mentioned in the revdel log that the ticket was critical, I thought only the ticket reference would have been enough. Even if I hope this kind of request will not happen anymore, I'll try to remember next time to explicitly specify the emergency of the request. Best regards, Linedwell [talk] 01:09, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
(Edit conflict.) (For the record, Linedwell clarified offline the nature of the emergency and I think that, while it could have been documented better, was a valid judgment call). --Rschen7754 01:10, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
