Chapters Dialogue

[edit]

Present the project, current progress and first insights of the Chapters Dialogue, get feedback and share ideas about next steps we can take together in 2014. Chapters Dialogue is a structured assessment of chapters needs, goals and stories combined with a stakeholder survey, initiated by the International Affairs Unit of Wikimedia Deutschland. It will not only allow all of us to reflect the status quo of our roles and relationships, but will enable us to actively shape them in the future. --Nicole Ebber (WMDE) (talk) 14:52, 12 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Other WMF projects: their state and their development

[edit]

Most of the above topics are about core Chapter related issues and/or Wikipedia related issues. But we support also other WMF projects like Wiktionary, Wikinews or Wikivoyage.

I propose to focus in this block also to other WMF projects in CEE region, their actual count, state, obstacles they are facing, but also vision of their communities for a successful future and vision of Chapters for their development. It would be nice to hear successful stories.--Juandev (talk) 08:52, 13 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Things in common (workshop)

[edit]

The CEE integration is done, because of some things we have in common. It could be common past (Post-communist countries); it could be common behavior of people (e.g. luck of internal motivation).

I propose this workshop to set common strengths and common weaknesses in CEE region. How to learn from weaknesses and how to use common strengths to fulfill Wikimedia goals. This workshop may also help to understand, why CEE Wikimedians tent to intensify cooperation and integration.--Juandev (talk) 08:52, 13 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

This would be interesting, if some preparatory work is done: i.e. getting CEE groups to volunteer some examples of what they perceive as common strengths/weaknesses, along with an illustrative anecdote showing them in action. Do you think you'd want to try to organize such inputs, in advance of the conference itself? Asaf Bartov (WMF Grants) talk 06:36, 21 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Could have a look on that.--Juandev (talk) 09:47, 22 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Don't Try This at Home

[edit]

I guess I could talk a bit about the failures, problems and bad decisions we have made. Maybe someone else would like to share, too? --Oop (talk) 12:50, 13 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

And lesson learnt will follow?--Juandev (talk) 20:45, 13 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
"Don't do this" is often very useful. It's much more fun if your mistakes are original. --Oop (talk) 12:25, 14 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunatelly people usually dont listen and they do same mistakes:-)--Juandev (talk) 16:53, 14 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, most people don't talk about these things so even if you'd like to listen you don't get a chance. So, maybe we could start by talking. ;) --Oop (talk) 17:00, 14 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
I think that would be valuable, but only if some preparation goes into it -- i.e. gathering, say, three "best" mistakes from each interested CEE group, and presenting as many of those as practical, possibly grouped into themes (e.g. "things you should say in front of a prospective partner", "how to annoy and alienate the editing community", etc.), during the event itself. Perhaps a post on the CEE list would get more people to notice and respond? Then a wiki page (perhaps a sub-page here), or a shared document (if you want to keep it all a surprise :)) can be worked on by multiple delegates. Asaf Bartov (WMF Grants) talk 06:35, 21 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Measuring success

[edit]

It would be nice to look at metrics for success in terms of outcomes. This can also cover what does not work by allowing people who have followed up with their efforts to explain what the outcomes were, if they thought there were poor and any changes they made as a result. --LauraHale (talk) 11:13, 14 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Status of the program

[edit]

I've posted about this the WM-CEE mailing list, but I am posting about it here. What is the status of this schedule? I was invited by e-mail to speak about a TWG stuff. I wrote out an abstract and sent it to the organizers. This appears no where on this schedule. The schedule appears to include aff-comm, but they said on the list that they are not sending anyone. I have not heard from anyone in the GEP about attending this conference, and no name is attached to that presentation. People are arriving for the conference on Thursday, and this schedule is just... not at a place to inspire confidence. I beg the organizers to please correct this, because it is unfair to people traveling internationally to attend this conference. It is unfair to speakers (or people who think they are speaking). It is hard to plan around attending this because of the state of the schedule. Please, please, please fix today. --LauraHale (talk) 07:13, 11 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
