Admin Abuse

[edit]

Datrio, A group of editors and admins refuse to allow a balance of material and links. Gamaliel, Robert McClenon, Jpgordon, JamesMLane, and a few others now own the pages. Any attempts to modify the page is met by thier gang edits. They allow only links to pro kennedy sites, none to negative sites regardless of the wealth of content they may provide. They push their pov on all of the Kennedy pages. It's because of editors and admins like these that Wikipedia is doubted as a source. ie; the New York Times published policy against Wiki as a source. The group refuses to agree to consensus when it is against them. I've now been blocked by Jpgordon in an abuse of admin priv. My act was not vandalism, it's simply not agreeing with their one sided pov. I am not willing to endure any more arb or mediation. These guys are out of control. 24.147.103.146 05:45, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

Monobook.css

[edit]

Hi Datrio!
One quick question about your skin, how did you changed the color of * (li dot) ?
Thanks, Get It 02:54, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Well, as you may see in the monobook.css skin, I didn't change it yet... Until now. This is what you need to change:
ul {
list-style-image: none;
color: orange;
}
Of course, simply change the color value for any different color. If you want to use an image, just change list-style-image: so it'll point to some URL. Datrio 13:37, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Thanks :D -- Get It 16:20, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Downtime report on WMF

[edit]

Hi Datrio. Would you like please to finish the latest entry of Translation requests/WMFnews? Already (perhaps Polimerek) finished the milestones part but still downtime report needs to be cared for. And I think it is better and honest to report both good and bad. If you have no time enough, would you please ask another Polish editor if he or she is interested in? sh = Srpskoхрватски or Српскоhrvatski

[edit]

Hi, I almost finished Main pages on sh Wikipedia. You can go there an see it. I was wondering why sh Wikipedia does not have Interwiki name. I read on this page that sh Wikipedia whit tlh dont have interwiki. Can you, or someone else, fix this problem? Serbo-Croatian is Srpskohrvatski on Latin or Српскохрватски Cyrillic. I suppose that name Srpskohrvatski/Српскохрватски is to long. Can you put Srpskoхрватски? Thank you. --Pokrajac 00:03, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Angela has put request for interwiki link. I believe that it will be changed soon. I requested logo for sh wiki together whis Millosh. About letters: words on latin are written on Croatian variant of sh language and they are on yekavian. Letters on cyrillica are on Serbian variant of sh language and they are on ekavian. Everybody who talk sh can understand all. These variants enjoying same rights. --Pokrajac 11:56, 27 Jun 2005 (UTC)

No, no and no with capital letter at the beginning! This is the first. The second is that it is better to write "štokavski / штокавски" then to use national names. Please, fix it. (At least, it shoud be "srpskoхрватски", but it is better to stay linguistic, not national name.) --Millosh 23:19, 1 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Re: Elections 2005 (on WP:PT)

[edit]

Hi Datrio,
Yes, I know, I was "testing" it.

I voted first on the WP:PT and then on WN:PT, and then I voted again on WN:PT, but that time I voted null, for nobody.

My real and correct vote is the on WP:PT.

Thanks and sorry, Get_It 17:38, 29 Jun 2005 (UTC)

PS: Could you please delete my vote on wikinews and restore the one on Wikipedia ? Thanks, Get_It 17:40, 29 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, and sorry for the trouble. -- Get_It 17:53, 29 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Bot Status for en:user:Yurik

[edit]

Hi Datrio. Thanks for marking :*:user:Yurik as bot. I have added several more because i received a ton of requests from different site operators. They are (sl, sk, he, ro, it). User name is Yurik. All these and more are on the bot request page. You can see people's comments in my en discussion. Thanks!!! --Yurik 15:41, 24 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Professor Ishiguro interview

[edit]

Morita42, active Japanese wikinewsies translated the page on meta; Wikinews/Interviews/The man behind the robot - an interview with Hiroshi Ishiguro/Ja. I just skimmed it and found it a good translation. He put a question on the page if your wording "if we can make an interview for WWN, it would be great". He wonders if it is a humble question whether the interview can be recorded. A short explanation on this part would be helpful. Thank you. --Aphaia++ 13:18, 1 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Link for starting a new entry

[edit]

Hello Datrio, first of all, thanks for the is.Wiktionary sysop.

I have another question and am not sure where to ask for help, so I try this here first: There seems to be a problem with the link for making a new entry after searching a word that doesn't exist on the icelandic Wiktionary:

Please have a look at this for example. It should show a link to edit the new word but it shows: "No page with this exact title exists, trying full text search"

Please could you tell me how to solve this problem, or whom I could contact if you don't know, many thanks in advance, greetings, --birdy (:> )=| 13:41, 7 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Problems with Aphaia

[edit]

I don't know if you're on foundation-l so you may not be aware of the recent discussion re:the Foundation-related pages here on meta. However the bottom line is that Anthere agreed that I should improve the pages here.

As part of this I greatly improved Template:Wikimedia. However Aphaia not only reverted my changes but then protected it, despite me asking him/her to consult with Anthere before reverting. Protecting a page one had been editing oneself would be an abuse of sysop privileges on any other wiki, but I don't know where to report that here.

Can you help me? Dan100 08:50, 21 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

I should explain more fully - the meta WMF pages are very hard to navigate. The Template:Wikimedia is now only used on a handful of pages - each subsection now has it's own navigation template, therefore there's no need for Template:Wikimedia to have anything more than the major headings, as I'd left it at in this revision.
I should add that Anthere agreed that I should attempt to improve these pages (I have also been given a WMF wiki login). I'm a little disappointed Aphaia just reverted on-sight - I believe it's probably personal, over DBAD. Dan100 09:01, 21 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Dan100 you have no right to decide uniliterarily. We found Wiimedia Template useful; you were not perhaps. And we don't consider your efforts improve or fix. That's it. I admit you tried to "fix" it but from my view you corrupted navigation system between pages. As for your accusation, it proves only your nasty and bossy personality in my opinion. I don't support to corrupt current fast and quick navigation and oppose to add redundant and almost empty "navigation page" if the template won't be kept as is. Shortly I am convinient with the former template and don't like to chagne it. --Aphaia++ 09:07, 21 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

eh, please do not start an edit war about this. Frankly Dan, I think the current wikimedia template is more useful as is, that as a very short template, since one of our issues is precisely to find where information is. My feeling these days is mostly that we need to possibly rework a bit the main page, but mostly the wikimedia page on meta needs very badly an update to give a much better overall description of what the Foundation is and the various paths to explore to understand it better and access information quickly. [edit]

Thx for your reply in http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_permissions#Removal_of_access. If you have a short look at the czech wiki, you will see, that there are serious problems at the moment, even if the user Vit Zvanovec has no sysop rights. The atmosphere is very bad, he startet to crate new puppet accounts, yesterday he made a legal threath against some user etc. So I am quite in worry about the future of this wiki. Have a look there, please, you could understand a little bit more what is going on. Probably there will be a new voting on this matter, it is in discussion (not for desysoping, but a longer block). Bot flags

[edit]

Hey, sorry to bother you. I noticed you have done some of the enwiki bot flags. We have some requests posted, for some time actually, and a few of the other bots have been flagged on other wiki's, just not en. I know there was a period where admin/bot flags could not be set, but was wondering if you could take a look at: Requests_for_permissions#English_Wikipedia_Bots. I wouldn't ask normally, but my bot in particular has been heavily needed lately, and I don't like flooding the RC, and I'm sure the others are used almost as much. I would appreciate it, when you have the time. Thank you. Who?¿? 23:55, 8 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Wikibooks and Wikiversity

[edit]

Hello. I am writing because I read your vote at the Wikiversity proposal. Many of the authors at Wikiversity, including myself, have been writing study guides and reading lists which, in my opinion, are within the scope of Wikibooks (Check the School of Mathematics for a good example of what I mean). Some Wikibookians have argued that the Wikiversity is beyond the scope of Wikibooks because of the vision expressed by some of the authors at Wikiversity. As you seem to think that it is too early to launch Wikiversity as a separate project, can I persuade you to vote in favour of keeping it in Wikibooks for the time being? Thanks for your attention. Your actions on Requests for permissions

[edit]

Can you explain me, why you have:

1. Erased all the Bot-Requests on the Page "Requests for permissions" at 20:42, 2 November 2005 using a not helpfull comment ( Bye, Bye ) in the summary-section ? See at

[4]

2. Prevent any new input on that page , by occupying it ?

Just check Requests for bot status. A link to that page is at the very top of Requests for permissions. Sorry, I should've made it more visible...
And I don't prevent any new input, like you said. Here's the log from that time:
[20:23] <rc> Requests for permissions http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Requests_for_permissions&diff=0&oldid=230995 * 84.150.233.148 * (+416)
[20:23] <rc> Requests for permissions http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Requests_for_permissions&diff=0&oldid=230997 * 84.150.233.148 * (-418) See also -

First you added back your request, then you deleted it, along with two extra characters. Seeing that, I just reverted the page to its old state - I thought you already noticed Requests for bot status and that's why you deleted it - and I reverted it.
Well, I hope you understood me... Anyway, don't worry - every bot request either has been done, or is now on Requests for bot status. Datrio 19:46, 3 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

I've modyfied the Page and hope, you can accept it.

Re: CheckUser rights

[edit]

I asked because we're not planning on targeting anyone specific with these CheckUser checks (we just want to see if a majority of the users are from one IP), so I'm not sure if a somewhat random check would violate the Privacy Policy, which seems to say that we need probable cause before performing a check on someone. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, blog) 00:51, 15 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

North Carolina Vandal

[edit]

Hi Datrio!

I'm Antandrus, a sysop on the en: wiki. I notice that you've been having problems with vandalism from 63.19.128.0--> 63.19.255.255. Any edit from this range is probably the "North Carolina vandal", an extremely persistent vandal we have been dealing with on the en: wiki since about June of this year; he must have thousands of vandalisms to his "credit", and may well have registered over a hundred sockpuppets there. His edits are easily identifiable by stylistic reasons alone, but shutting down the IP range always throttles his sockpuppets, so there's never been any question of identity. I've shut down that range again on en:, evidently enraging him, so apparently now he has shifted some of his activity over here. Good luck! Antandrus 17:30, 2 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

I'll leave this message on Wikipedia as well, but I wanted to make sure you got this. At Wikipedia:Semi-protection policy, a couple users and myself are attempting to gather consensus about a possible change in editing. So as not to keep the community out of the loop, we've been posting to user talk pages, which seems to have worked. If you can add your thoughts to the talk page, it would be greatly appreciated. We've gone over a few issues, ranging from perception of anti-wiki to time limits, and recycling pagemove code, so you might want to check out #Rehashing to get up to speed. Please, Mega Troll possibility needs to be looked at here

[edit]

I am coming to you because there is nowhere else to go with this. I fear a mega troll (administrator) has been able to so firmly entrench himself within wikinews with meatpuppets and sockpuppets that he has obtained virtual control of the site. Now he is attempting to expand his power into Wiktionary. [7]. He simply uses his authority and extreme time availability to wear down and force contributors who are in his way off the site. He has also managed to drive a wedge between Admins and non-admins (basically forming a club-like clique among admins) to the point where a reasonable Rfda; [8] fails with 6 admins opposing and 9 non-admins supporting the Rfda. Amgine's dedication toward prioritizing group loyalty is manifest with this edit of his; "Your approach to Wikinews, in my opinion, is focused on articles. This is a common approach, but probably not the most valuable. I suggest you reconsider that Wikinews is not about articles, but about developing and maintaining an online community; the articles are secondary. - Amgine / talk 14:53, 23 October 2005 (UTC)". Amgine also uses multiple signatures leading to different sites and one that leads nowhere.Amgine Amgine[- Amgine  03:14, 9 November 2005 (UTC)]Reply

The administrative abuses are historical fact and are listed below and although the "troll" accusation is based on circumstantial evidence; I am also showing it at the bottom. The section below is from [9]

  • Regarding Amgine's activities as an administrator for en.wikinews, I have checked and double checked the information/links below and find the statements accompanying them to be true. Amgine abuses administrative authority consistently and has done so for at least 6 months. His user page comments even show he has a troll-like connection as an administrator with the project[10] as he openly announces that he has "left the project" while being the most active in terms of conflicts and blockings[11]; acting as a foreman or "boss" rather than in a collaborative fashion.
    • Here are the examples of administrative abuse. Amgine has had multiple long lasting disputes with many editors with Neutralizer being the most recent and intense. Amgine has not hesitated to abuse his admin powers by blocking/punishing editors like Neutralizer who disagree with him; even though wikinews guidelines clearly state that an admin should NOT block an editor with whom they are having a dispute (they should, instead, allow a different admin. to apply any necessary blocks to that editor). It now seems that the wikinews contributors can not get rid of Amgine no matter how hard they try; Amgine is able to deflect and explain away his misdeeds in a fashion that puts Shakespeare's "Artful Dodger" to shame. You may expect that he will become increasingly accusatory and employ vicious attack methods to get what he wants. Re Amgine; its a lot easier to get him in power than to get him out of power. Fair Warning !
    1. Amgine displayed his arrogance by summarily rejecting the resolution, suggestions of a mediator, Ilya (a wikinews Bureaucrat) after a mediation. "I do not accept your suggestion that I limit my administrative privilege use either to "vandalism or very clear violations of objective policies only, and to explicitly let some other admin deal with Neutralizer" or "submit a self-de-admin request." [12]
    2. Dan100's list.[13] of Amgine's "bullying and poor behaviour" (Dan100 is an admin.[14] in good standing at wikinews).
    3. Apparent vendetta blocks:
A shows 4 of the spurious blocks Amgine levied against Neutralizer which were all later rescinded when other admins got involved [15].
B shows the last block against Neutralizer done after Amgine and he clearly were in conflict
02:13, 6 November 2005 Amgine blocked "User:Neutralizer" with an expiry time of 6 months
    4. Admin abuse; blocking Ed Brown for 1 month [16] 04:27, 11 December 2005 Amgine blocked "User:Edbrown05" with an expiry time of 1 month ; Amgine soon withdrew that block as he claimed a "software problem" had been the cause of the unjustified block. This time selection of 1 month for a long standing good contributor like Edbrown shows an abusive use of blocking
    5. talk page blanked and frozen by Amgine ( in the middle of ongoing disputes with this same person) [17] This is especially interesting as he did it just one hour after the talk page was made to prioritize the question of whether Amgine and another admin. are the same person.[18] As you can see below (6); Amgine has no problem accusing others of being sockpuppets but when he stands accused? Hell; just delete the evidence.
    6. More Disruption by Amgine; not assuming good faith:
Amgine accused vonbergm of being a sockpuppet; "I do not have reason to believe you are not a sockpuppet."[19]
Just a few days ago he accused Edbrown of being a sockpuppet[20]
    Additional "Troll" indicators
    1. Enigma = Amgine backwards
http://education.yahoo.com/reference/dictionary/entry/enigma •nig•ma (-ngm) KEY NOUN: One that is puzzling, ambiguous, or inexplicable. A perplexing speech or text; a riddle. Anything that arouses curiosity or perplexes because it is unexplained, inexplicable, or secret: conundrum, mystery, perplexity, puzzle, puzzler, riddle. Definition sounds a lot like a definition for "troll" to me; "puzzler, perplexing, conundrum"
    2. http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/User:Amgine says “left the project”
    http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Special:Log/block shows the opposite
    Neutralizer 19:19, 16 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

    Exactly the point !

    [edit]

Regarding your comment; "Amgine has left the project, and that's that. There's nothing else that can be done, and most importantly, nothing else I could do. Datrio 11:03, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[21]"

Yes, he does give the impression he has "left the project" with that message on his user page [22] which he put there July 3rd. But that messsage is simply not true! Just look at his "history" [23]. he has continued to be very active in wikinews(hundreds of edits in the past few days alone) and the most active in terms of conflicts and blocks ever since he put up that "left the project" message; it's just another example of how he likes to confuse and jerk around the project and serious contributors.

    recent conflict/block examples

04:27, 11 December 2005 Amgine blocked "User:Edbrown05" with an expiry time of 1 month

01:16, 6 November 2005 Eloquence unblocked User:Neutralizer (6 months block excessive, change blocking policy first, do not make policy through excessive actions) 21:11, 5 November 2005 Amgine blocked "User:Neutralizer" with an expiry time of 6 months (Consistently disruptive user, POVioring in articles, project pages, talk pages.)

14:33, 23 October 2005 Amgine unblocked User:Neutralizer (Incorrectly blocked by me.) 07:26, 23 October 2005 Amgine blocked "User:Neutralizer" with an expiry time of 3 days

01:07, 7 October 2005 Amgine unblocked User:Neutralizer (Lack of basis to block beyond disruption) 00:13, 7 October 2005 Amgine blocked "User:Neutralizer" with an expiry time of 3 days (Repeated publication to lead articles of disputed, unpublished article. Main page vandalism.)

20:55, 3 October 2005 Eloquence unblocked User:Neutralizer (inappropriate block; no personal attack which places other users in danger) 00:34, 3 October 2005 Amgine blocked "User:Neutralizer" with an expiry time of 3 days (Repeated personal attacks on Wikinews:Administrators after warning on user's talk page.)

and one of Amgine's recent conflicts; [24]

and here is a record of how Amgine and one of his colleagues used IRC to plot and lay a trap to block one of our great administrators,[25] Simeon.

    see excerpts from [26]below;

    "Amgine "Need a hand?"

    Amgine <claps for Lyellin>

Lyellin "talk page comments would be nice"

    Amgine "There in a minute."

    Lyellin growls again

Amgine "Just a moment, almost done..."

Amgine; "Your turn Lyellin. If he goes further, it's 3rr"

    Lyellin "done"

    Amgine "Blocked"

    Lyellin "sighs"

Datrio, Amgine's user page message is just 1 of his "troll-like" indicators (that he enjoys confusing the project and its contributors). He has refused to change that user page message even though asked to by one of our bureaucrats months ago; "That said, Amgine, please change your user page, it's confusing. -- IlyaHaykinson 06:55, 6 October 2005 (UTC)". Neutralizer 13:20, 18 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I'm sorry to have bothered you; if you have no authority then I was wasting our time; maybe you can tell me whom,if anyone, does have authority in a matter like this? but please do not pretend that something can change because of having community support; this Rfda failed on Wikinews even with this amount of non-admin. support ( 8 active contributors) [27] The admins simply block-voted (6 opposed). Semi-protection

    [edit]

Hello. You commented at en:Wikipedia:Semi-protection policy that if the policy passed, you would help to spread the world on other projects. The policy has now passed, and has been implemented, so it is now in effect on the English Wikipedia. I've created a draft of a global discussion page at Semi-protection (which needs translating), but most of the details of the implementation are on the enwiki project page. Thanks! Sh.wiki

    [edit]

Datrio, please come forward and explain already why are you doing this? Who allowed you to unblock a vandal? Who allows you to threaten to deadmin people who block vandals? Who allowed you to call a vote to close a project? --Dcabrilo 23:53, 7 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

First of all, you unblocked a person who blanked dozens of articles. Bad - I blocked her for vandalism. Did you care to check her contributions? You unblocked some other people - that's OK, it was our admin dispute, you were being bold. But, how exactly is a vote to close a project going to help? Also, there is a difference between being bold and doing irrational things. I mean, you are aware how much you disrupted sh wikipedia and that according to "do not disrupt Wikipedia", you could as well be blocked? Also, you threatened that if I block a vandal, you will desysop me. Why? Are admins not allowed to block vandals? If you were confused, you could've come to me (third party), and I would try to explain the situation. But, when you don't understand what is going on, going about disrupting wikipedia you really don't have anything to do with is just unjustifiable. --Dcabrilo 13:35, 8 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
I have no consideration for what you did. I was in the middle of trying to resolve a dispute, when you disrupted the entire thing. You should go to sh.wikipedia, apologize to its editors, and remove the vote. --Dcabrilo 13:35, 8 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Dario, thanks for the upgrade. I had seen you doing it on the RC. And I have allready a problem :)

I try Walter@enwiki or Walter@nlwiki, Walter@nlwikiquote . Even the example of Stewards does not work "There is no user by the name "James@eewiki". steward rights taken away

    [edit]

"Also, Arno Lagrange failed his re-nomination and, if no one is against this move, his steward rights will be taken away." Who asked you to take stewards right away ? I was stupid enough to believe that a former steward must be reelected to stay so. If I would read more cautionly the rules of the election, I simply had not been recandidating, and I would stay a steward. I noticed that Anthere had eard my suggestion that bureaucrates should may set bot flags. A good thing if it would be real. Arno Lagrange  22:09, 11 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

    Steward

    [edit]

The election page mentionned extremely clearly that after the elections, the new stewards had to be approved by the Foundation and that the Foundation would define the exact number of stewards to be nominated. It so happen that I am fine with all of them, and so is Angela. But Jimbo did not have the time to agree yet. It is very rude of you not to let him have the time to do so. And inappropriate not to respect the election rules. Now, you removed the chance for Jimbo to express his opinion against a given steward. For him to say so would be damned hurtful for the steward in question. You may consider apologizing to Jimbo for not letting him the time to give his opinion. And next time, please read the rules carefully. Thanks Anthere

Translation of the candidate statement during the election?

    [edit]

Six new candidates since the last time I checked (have had other stuff happening in my life), and the election starts in like two days. Currently I have fairly little time, or rather it is very difficult to predict from day to day. Sometimes i get a large chunk of time, but I have difficult to plan it. Is it OK to do translations of candidate statements, of improving existing translations, after August 1 i.e. during the election? I think I could have them all finished by August 7th or something like that, maybe earlier but it is difficult for me to promise. // habj 10:10, 29 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I think it good. Not best perhaps, but it is better than nothing. I will write to call for translators on translators-l. FYI steward-status

    [edit]
[Stewards] - a new steward election will be held soon. The most likely date for the election to start is 25th of November. This date can still change. Like it is now all existing stewards will need to reapply if they wish to remain steward. The rules of this procedure are still under discussion. All existing stewards and interested users for the function of steward can best apply as soon as possible.

    [edit]

    Dear Datrio,

On May, 7 and May, 14 you added the website wiki.traditio.ru, whereof I am one of the owners, to spam blacklist ([29], [30]) with following reason: "personal attacks on ru.wikipedia user" ([31]).

Before considering my further actions on this matter, I would like to ask you to:

    1. give me links to the alleged personal attacks, since, as far as I know, there are no pages, qualifying to "personal attack" on the site and in wikipedia.
    2. refer to the rule or policy explicitly instructing that sites containing attack pages on Wikipedia users shall be listed as spam.
    3. take into account the fact that, for a long time, wiki.traditio.ru has been properly reffered to by a number of Russian Wikipedia pages such as [32] as the host of article subject's homepage and works. It is also the only source, under GFDL, of about a dozen of Wikipedia pages (e.g. [33]), which currently cannot be properly attributed, due to their source's being blacklisted as spam.

    2007 Steward Confirmations

    [edit]

Hi. This is a semi automated notice so my apologies if it seems a bit impersonal. You're listed as holding the Steward permission. As you know, Stewards get reconfirmed yearly, and it's that time again... I noticed that you haven't yet filled out your statement at Stewards/confirm. If you'd like to learn what the community thinks, please visit the page and put in your statement. Volunteers have been busily translating statements already. It would be best to do this before November 26, as that is when the page is opened for public comment, to coincide with the elections of new stewards. If you would like to not be reconfirmed and have your name removed, you can remove your section, or ask a volunteer to do it for you. I hope this information helps. If you have any questions or comments, there is ongoing discussion at Talk:Stewards/elections_2007. Oh, one last thing, if you already knew about it and just hadn't gotten round to it, apologies for the reminder! :) ++Lar: t/c 04:41, 15 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
