Extend block?
Would you please consider extending /32 block as it still seems problematic, and due to expire. — billinghurst sDrewth 05:56, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
Please tell me what is that filter and why is it reacts on private message blocking to send it?85.238.102.83 20:09, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
- That was an error, your edit should not have been blocked. I have fixed the filter so that your edit should no longer be caught. Thank you for flagging this so we can improve our filters. Jon Kolbert (talk) 03:39, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
- Hmmm... I would like to tell you "thanks", but it's still here. Also here told you are the last one who changed a filter (that's why I wrote to you exactly) but... on "11:55, 6 March 2021"). Did you really fix it (last day)? Because there was no any such problem met by me starting from February, 2nd and till yesterday. Looks like your March, 6th filter change exactly made something wrong for it (false-positive reaction) start to appear.85.238.102.83 05:34, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
- Try again, I think it should work now. Jon Kolbert (talk) 05:45, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, that worked $) Thanks! L) Just to be clear (if that's not secret) what's that filter rule fighting with?85.238.102.83 06:20, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

Sock to lock
Just noticed you locked Carpetlice for xwiki abuse, I'd like to note that this account is also CU-confirmed at enwiki to Carpetlice. Thanks, JavaHurricane 11:01, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

IP blocks exempt
Hi @Jon Kolbert: please remove block for User:Carma citrawati as its not cross-wiki spam or spambot. She is one of our local wikipedian member from Balinese Wiki. I would lovely to talk to you if you have any question. Thanks. Joseagush (talk) 05:42, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @Jon Kolbert:, the user just can access ban.wiki but still can not access incubator.wiki and wikisource because you blocked her in all wikimedia project except ban.wiki. Can you removed the block for all projects? She active both in WikiKruna and WikiPustaka. Thanks. Joseagush (talk) 05:51, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Would you kindly unblock nia.wiki user Simalambuo?
Hi @Jon Kolbert would you please remove the block for Nias Wiki user Simalambuo? By chance he got the IP address 118.99.65.253 today and can't write or edit anything on nia.wp, nia.wikt or incubator, where our community members are active. Is it possible that users like this are exempt, provided that they are logged in? They don't have any control over which IP address they will get when connecting to Internet. Thank you in advance. Slaia (talk) 12:44, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Slaia: If the user has hit an IP in global blocks then they are better applying at SRGP for that exemption. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:24, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you @Billinghurst:. I'll try to help him. We at nia.wiki are a very small community and almost all members are not tech-savvy (they only know enough to write and edit entries in our wikis and generally can't understand the English jargons), so dealing with this things is really difficult for them. It's unfortunate that they have to be affected by IP block like this. Thanks anyway. Slaia (talk) 20:25, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Slaia: I can see that you are an administrator at one of the wikis, if not more, you can grant local override of stewards through w:nia:special:userrights/Simalambuo and grant IP block exemption for a wiki. — billinghurst sDrewth 23:55, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Billinghurst:, thank you so much. I was not even aware I could do this. Now everything is set. I've exempted him, so he can edit and write in our wiki again. Slaia (talk) 10:00, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

I’m not sure how I was blocked on 1.3.2021 for long term abuse when i did my first edit when my first edit attempt was on or around 3.15.21. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by HTB3 (talk) 20:51, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
Ip blocks before 1st edit
Recently this year, there has been a discussion where you have blocked someone before they have made their first edit. Be sure to know if they are doing anything. Thank you for reading — The preceding unsigned comment was added by TheGs2007 (talk) 01:59, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

Flooder flag
Hello, I just prolonged your +flooder a bit, as StewardBot started flooding. Thanks for all the blocks, Martin Urbanec (talk) 17:30, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
special:Permalink/21855350 and the current request make it seem like there might have been an erroneous/incorrect block affecting a user for over a month. ~~~~

- @1234qwer1234qwer4: It appears the unblock process has been explained to them, and I can't just CU them to find out what block is affecting them. They need to follow the steps outlined to request an unblock/exemption. Jon Kolbert (talk) 15:24, 10 September 2021 (UTC)
Hello:
Thanks for all your help in responding to global lock requests, including mine today. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 15:18, 10 September 2021 (UTC)
You might want to fix the doubled character since we are using norm()
, though I am not sure how high the false positive rate is going to be. ~~~~

Unblock request for an IP
Hello. This is NikosLikomitros, from Greek Wikipedia. Could you unblock the IP address 154.57.13.24; This IP is belonging to the user BadComments, also from Greek version, and it was blocked due to a rangeblock that you performed. She is unable to edit any wiki since then. The user has performed legitimate contribution in Greek Wikipedia and no action is needed. I have the consent of the user for the publication of the IP and I made the request on behalf of BadComments, after private communication with her. Thanks in advance. NikosLikomitros (talk) 12:52, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
- @NikosLikomitros: I have assigned them global ipblock-exempt Jon Kolbert (talk) 14:58, 31 October 2021 (UTC)

- @SidChat2048: turn off your VPN. Jon Kolbert (talk) 13:34, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Jon Kolbert: Thank you. It was iCloud Private Relay doing this. I didn't know that it would choose open proxies. SidChat2048 (talk) 17:21, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
global blocks
Stewards need to look at their global blocks, this is becoming too harsh. We shouldn't be having to deal this many requests for global blocks as local unblock requests. At least allow local editing so they can apply for release at SRGP — billinghurst sDrewth 11:39, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Billinghurst: The system is broken, and it has been broken for years. I have proposed changes to improve the situation including using templates to replace our inadequate text-only block messages, and a mechanism to render those templates in the language of the user, but that has fallen on deaf ears and have so far gone effectively inactioned. @SGrabarczuk (WMF): pinged me about iCloud private relay and asked how the foundation could help - a good start would be to implement the changes that we have requested to improve our workflow in an effort to make it remotely manageable. We are still also waiting on hCaptcha to be implemented. If you just take the sample of users requesting an unblock on my talk page, they're all VPNs or proxies. If we were to use decent templates and have a direct link with a pre-filled form to request an exemption. Jon Kolbert (talk) 14:28, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Billinghurst: If it's an open proxy, check if iCloud Private Relay is enabled. SidChat2048 (talk) 17:53, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
- I disagree with the blocking strategy that has so many users disenfranchised that they have to 1) appeal so much, 2) cannot appeal as they have been blocked at meta, 3) has stewards with a backlog that they cannot manage and continue to increase. This is not about templates. @SidChat2048: I am not a steward, I don't need to check anything. I am here as a meta admin talking to a steward about the situation that they are creating by their implementation of policy. I will admit that I am not seeing the data they are using to determine blocks, though I am speaking from some experience in the role, and the then stewards implementation of the same policy at that time. — billinghurst sDrewth 09:20, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
Flood
Hello, it seems you had the flood flag on for some time now, is it intentional? Sorry if this post seems intrusive. Apologies. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 09:27, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Camouflaged Mirage: Yes, this is intentional since all I really have been doing for the past week or so is mass-blocks. I'll remove it once I return to actual editing on noticeboards and such. Jon Kolbert (talk) 16:59, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
