Hi. I've moved your competition page to Brazil Catalyst Project/Agenda January 2011/COMPETITION: Shave Philippe's head, because it does not belong in Meta's main space. Regards, Wutsje 16:21, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia offline in portuguese[edit]

Hi Jwild, I read the post at the Wikimedia blog about producing an offline version of the portuguese wikipedia. We have currently a review procedure similar to the one at the english Wikipedia at pt:WP:1.0 which might serve as the backbone for the selection procedure. We at Wikimedia Portugal were also partnering with the manufacturer of the laptop Magalhães to include an offline copy of Wikipedia in the newer release of the laptop. So, we would also be interested in pursuing a more formal way to select articles for offline versions. Please contact me at my talk page at ptwiki, if needed. I don't check meta very often. Cheers, GoEThe 11:46, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You can check here a brief overview of how many articles were assessed as of April this year. The Wikipedia for Schools project seems realy interesting. I'll contact you some day later to talk about this. GoEThe 17:17, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jwild. I want a check-user for Costas78 and 3 ips:

Do they match??

I'm asking you, because we don't have check-users/stewards in our Wikipedia and 'cause an Italian check-user told me that a steward could help.

Please, answer me, ASAP.

Hi! You should look at this Checkuser request page for submitting the request. Thanks and good luck! Jwild (talk) 19:50, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info, Jessie! --Το αλλήθωρο οπόσουμ (talk) 10:52, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Good day, I know you are involved in similar projects so I thought you may be interested by the creation of Wikimedia Indigenous Languages. Your input would definitely be appreciated. Thanks, Amqui (talk) 01:44, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Scholarship review applications requested[edit]

Hi Jessie, just in case you're not aware, the Hong Kong team are requesting applications for the Scholarship Review Committee on the Wikimania mailing list - see the archives. As an applicant and observer, I don't have a strong opinion on who organizes appointments and how they are done, but I'm enquiring because the scholarship review discussion seemed to lean on the WMF continuing with appointments and having specific terms of two or three years - the current application request seems to imply terms will run for one year only and appointments will be done by the local team. CT Cooper · talk 21:39, 21 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for reaching out. I do know about the HK team taking this one over. This year got a little messy for two reasons: a) no clear resolution from the community discussion on how exactly to proceed (though you are right that there are a few points like the rotations), and b) the "narrowing focus" for WMF which was purposed by Sue and passed by the Board at the end of October. WMF's involvement in WIkimania was a big piece of that document, and while those things were being worked out the HK team decided timeline was too tight to wait (I agreed). Two members of the local team and one from WMF (me) will be reviewing applications for the committee, but you are right that it is only implied to be a one-year commitment. This is mostly because the process will likely change again next year when a new contractor perhaps will come onboard to take over Wikimania as a whole.
The term point is a good one, and it reminds me that the agreement we will write up for those selected should include some language about the expectation being that all committee members will be invited to participate in the committee again in 2013-14 -- for a total of two years on the committee -- unless they fail to complete their duties. Hopefully then, at least a fraction of them will stay on for next year, and then we can get an explicitly stated two-year rotation beginning as the others drop off and are replaced.
Does that make sense? This is a big talk page note :) Jwild (talk) 22:06, 21 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for a quick and very elaborate response. Yeah, I saw Sue's plan to more narrowly focus the Foundation, a concept which I on the whole agree with, although I wasn't sure what this would mean for Wikimania, and it did muddle the scholarship review discussion somewhat. However, the current plan looks sensible; there is definitely merit with having closer links between the scholarship reviewing process and the organizing team, since separation was previously an issue from what I've read. I look forward to seeing how things develop over the coming months.
As I alluded to earlier, I have expressed my interest via e-mail as the mailing list message instructs, since after much thought I've decided this is something I want to do and I think I could do it well. I presume at some point I and other applicants will be asked by e-mail to submit a formal application in the form of a statement and/or answering some set questions - I know previously applicants were asked to provide CVs, which I will happily provide if they're requested again. On scholarships, I've made arrangements to go without one after saving-up and skipping the 2012 Wikimania, but since it has still nearly emptied my bank account, I would still be interested in receiving some kind of assistance. I know members of the review committee can't apply for scholarships, but has some kind of funding for review committee members to attend Wikimania been completely ruled out, as it did cause some controversy in the review discussion, or is just not guaranteed? CT Cooper · talk 23:39, 21 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This more recent message clarifies a few things - it states members cannot apply for a scholarship (although it doesn't appear to rule out financial assistance?) and that members will serve for two year terms. I have received some unexpected funds today which means I can attend Wikimania 2012 without any assistance, although it is too early to say, and I think this may apply to other applicants as well, what the situation will be in 2014. CT Cooper · talk 20:51, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I imagine you meant 2013, unless you have sufficient funds to build a Tardis? ;-) Thehelpfulone 01:18, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I had my heart set on a DeLorean, although I would need a right-hand drive one, and only sixteen were ever produced. CT Cooper · talk 12:01, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for my delayed response here! The Wikimania team will be following up for more detailed application info. I'm glad things are looking good for you and attendance in 2013!! Jwild (talk) 20:19, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
