Sysop flag is granted for the duration of the fundraiser. --WizardOfOz talk 21:13, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Something wrong with TranslationsVolBot[edit]

Users choosing "Language - Chinese" in this form are wrongly categorized into "yue - 粵語 - Yue Chinese" on the translation hub page. Pls fix this, thx. :) --Kuailong 12:23, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'm pretty sure I know what the bug is and how to fix it. I implemented a temporary fix and will fix the bot once the banners come down. I will go back through the page and put users under the correct heading. Pgehres (WMF) 17:34, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Flooder flag[edit]

Ohai, I see you still have the flooder flag with your account, but you have not edited since October 3. Do you still need it? If not, I would like to see you as a human account, rather than bot. Cheerio! :) — Tanvir | Talk ] 15:52, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. I forgot to turn it back off. Thanks for the reminder. Pgehres (WMF) 17:10, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mobile Readers Survey[edit]

Hi there. I just see the mobile reader survey central notice went live. However I noticed that Singapore is not included - I suggest that to be included because it has a large proportion of Chinese and English native speakers. I'm not sure how the targeted audience is selected here so just a suggestion :) --Bencmq 10:12, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Mobile Readers Survey is actually not mine. I was asked to keep an eye on its allocation, but you should contact Cbrown1023 or Mani Pande with questions. The Central Notice Calendar is a good place to find contact information for the owners of any Central Notice campaigns. --Pgehres (WMF) 16:52, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings. In what way do you feel the above mentioned article needs updating? Thanks! Warrakkk 13:20, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hah, nevermind - Jsoby indicated what I had missed. Thanks! Warrakkk 13:50, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Protocol-relative URLs in CSS, please. You're fucking up my pretty green HTTPS icon. --MZMcBride 01:31, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

+1. This throws horrible errors over many many users. Nemo 10:00, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
MZMcBride fixed it when he saw it. I was given a rush job and hastily copied an existing banner with the offending code. I looked it over and missed those URLs. I have gone back and fixed the originals that I copied. Pgehres (WMF) 10:04, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

enWP_SOPA_RfC banner[edit]

I've set it to USA-only per CentralNotice/Calendar, change both if wrong. Thanks, Nemo 10:00, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I will update the calendar, I changed it per instructions of Philippe (WMF). Pgehres (WMF) 10:11, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sitesupport URL in small wikis[edit]

About this changes (and similar in other small wikipedias).

New donation URL] with parameter "uselang={{CONTENTLANGUAGE}}" leads to a combination of Russian and English texts (and nothing else - in the Udmurt language). This situation is typical for all "small" Wikipedia editions on languages of "small" ethnic groups in Russia ( av, ba, bxr, cv, ce, kbd, krc, kv, koi, lbe, lez, mhr, mdf, mrj, myv, os, sah, tt, udm, vep, xal, ).

Fundraising pages rarely translated into such "small" languages. However, wiki-users and readers of these Wikipedia editions usually speak and read Russian. It would be convenient and well, if in the absence of translation in such language, to substitute a Russian translation. Because I see that text of fundraising page for Udmurt (and others) is still partially displayed in Russian, I think that it is possible to make such a substitution for the other texts? It might be easier to replace the "uselang=ru" in these wikis?--Kaganer (talk) 09:28, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

PS: For pnt language possible useful make substitute el translation... --Kaganer (talk) 09:28, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Peter, any comments? --Kaganer (talk) 19:11, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I delayed replying to talk to User:Jhs about what we should do. We are going to try and implement a fallback system for the appeals so that they will get the language if we have it, fallback to Russian, then to English. How does that sound? --Peter Gehres (WMF) (talk) 19:27, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It sound as good solution ;) Where it is planned to configure? In the near future we can get a few "small" wikis (inh, krl, ady, tyv). Well, this setting would be "transparent"... --Kaganer (talk) 21:01, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
We want to use the fallbacks that are already used for messages. They are configured in the Messages file for each language. For example, for av and ba, in the files MessagesAv.php on line 17 and MessagesBa.php on line 23, you can see that $fallback='ru'; is already set. This should keep everything consistent inside Mediawiki and allow the i18n and localization teams to keep us up to date with the correct fallbacks. The appeal fallback system will be deployed on There will be nothing that the other wikis will have to do to use the system. --Peter Gehres (WMF) (talk) 21:27, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Please call me after implementation, so i could test these "sitesupport" links. --Kaganer (talk) 23:26, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"redirecting to the current FAQ on wmfwiki"[edit]

Hi, please notice that those edits don't work, you should use Template:Interwiki redirect to link them - Hoo man (talk) 18:16, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Also, some of the target pages don't seem to exist, e.g. Fundraising FAQ/lt. --MF-W 18:19, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I was doing it in a hurry and knew that using LandingCheck would be better. They now all have links that will default back to English if the language doesn't exist. --Peter Gehres (WMF) (talk) 18:49, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, can you help me with the CentralNotice for our event in Cape Town? See Requests_for_help_from_a_sysop_or_bureaucrat#Central_Notice_request (notice details on CentralNotice/Calendar). We discussed this with Wikimedia South Africa and the organising committee of WLM SA, but I need your assistance in putting the notice online. MADe (talk) 10:30, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

FYI re: deleted image in fundraising banners[edit]

Thanks. I will pass this along to the people who made the banners. Peter Gehres (WMF) (talk) 02:17, 26 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
They should use "//" now instead (which will not disappear). This is the URL that the "Insert close button" will add to the banner (although I know most people just copy the code from old banners). Kaldari (talk) 05:48, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
