Wikipedians of North Caucasus User Group
Wikipedians of North Caucasus User Group (Russian Группа участников-википедистов Северного Кавказа, Chechen Къилбаседа Кавказан Википеди декъашхойн тоба, Ossetian Цӕгат Кавказы Википеди архайджыты къорд, Lezgi Кеферпатан Къавкъаздин Википедиядин уртахрин группа) is a group of people interested in Wikimedia projects in the languages of the North Caucasus and topics related to the people, culture and community of this region.
There are 10 Wikipedia editions in the languages of the North Caucasus, another 12 projects are developed in the Wikimedia Incubator. The largest edition is the Chechen Wikipedia (more than 220 thousand articles). However, most of the Wikipedia editions in the region have 1-2 thousand articles, as well as a small number of participants. In order to attract new users, develop new Wikipedia editions in the languages of indigenous peoples, and increase the knowledge about the North Caucasus in all languages of the world, we decided to register this group.
Our group is primarily dedicated to supporting and developing indigenous languages in the North Caucasian Federal District of the Russian Federation. We are also open to supporting projects in other geographically, culturally and historically close regions - for example, in Kalmykia and Adygea.
- Promotion of Wikipedia editions in the languages of the North Caucasus;
- Promotion of topics related to the North Caucasian languages, culture and communities in the wiki projects in different languages;
- Engagement of new people into the Wikimedia movement, especially in the regions of the North Caucasus;
- Cooperating with local authorities, organizations and individuals to receive grants and other materials to promote free knowledge.
