Discussion[edit]

@Ciell: I saw you noticed a previous request (CentralNotice/Request/Change The Story) this is the replacement now the project has changed. Is it practical to have a banner that consists entirely of an image as suggested? Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 13:19, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Richard, I personally cannot create a banner from a single image, no. Maybe @DerHexer knows? Ciell (talk) 18:50, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Good to know, I see if DerHexer can confirm either way if it's possible and then we may need to change the design to be regular text and an image. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 14:55, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Victuallers: Pinging you so that you know the request is live and can see what is being asked. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 15:50, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Richard Nevell (WMUK): Thanks Richard, I have noted this at the WIR discussion so our members are aware. Feel free to say hi there Victuallers (talk) 08:10, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Ciell, Richard Nevell (WMUK), and Victuallers: I've created a banner which should do, please have a look at the preview. When you change the size of the screen, you will see that text size will not be adjusted (which results in small texts or overlayed text). Please tell me if that's okay with you or if we want to provide a scalable HTML version. Then a campaign could be created by Ciell, me or any other CN admin. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 18:14, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you DerHexer for the contribution, I think thats as good as the original image. Victuallers (talk) 07:32, 4 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks DerHexer.
@Victuallers, @Richard Nevell (WMUK): has the community been notified about the banner, are they okay with it? Ciell (talk) 07:54, 4 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Central Notice admin comments[edit]

To help with more translations for this year's banner, I've already copied last years banners (link for translations).

NB: securepoll link, landing page link, etc still need to be updated in the banners. Translators would like to get an early start in translations.
Both banners still need a script review before going live, would you be able to do this @DerHexer? Ciell (talk) 08:50, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There are no scripts in the banner right now. —DerHexer (Talk) 23:35, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @DerHexer! And the style is up to date as well? Ciell (talk) 18:15, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ciell: I'm not sure what you mean. It's not my banner, and if the WMF (@MPossoupe (WMF):) is okay with the style, I'm also fine with it. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 17:58, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Campaign is now also ready here. @MPossoupe (WMF) Since the voting eligibility is quite complex, the banner will be shown to all logged in users, even if the are not eligible for voting at the moment of the elections. Ciell (talk) 18:47, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

@Ciell: Hi Ciell, I was wondering if we have the green light for this banner. What do you think? -- Best, Johanna Strodt (WMDE) (talk) 08:56, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Romaine, @Steinsplitter, @Martin Urbanec: Pinging you to hear your thoughts if this banner can happen. -- Thanks and greetings from Berlin, Johanna Strodt (WMDE) (talk) 09:59, 2 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think that in the case that WMDE staff will implement the banner and there are no further comments by other CentralNotice administrators, just go ahead. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 14:00, 14 June 2022 (UT

@Johanna Strodt (WMDE) and DerHexer: It appears that the Kartensaison_2022 banner is throwing client errors when users close the banner.

"this.removeBannerSpace is not a function"
https://logstash.wikimedia.org/goto/cb10e8ff6b90b1576f91f7834ed01ad0

I've disabled the campaign for the time being. Could you fix and then the campaign can be reenabled. Seddon (talk) 11:45, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the ping but I haven't been involved with this banner, I just gave a comment here. ;D Thanks for observing the error, of course! —DerHexer (Talk) 11:51, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Seddon: Thanks a lot for the report. Our developer is working on the fix right now. Quote:

Discussion[edit]

Hi Martin Urbanec, please can you or other CN admins help check this? I understand it's not yet 10 days since posting this, but I would appreciate if there's a way to move this forward a bit. Thanks. – Ammarpad (talk) 12:24, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Any passing CN admin should please help with this request. The campaign started yesterday. Thank you so much for your help. T CellsTalk 22:49, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Central Notice admin comments[edit]

Hi @Ammarpad, @T Cells , I have created a banner similar to the one we had last year, please review the preview, and feel free to start translations as well. I've reviewed the table on Commons, and choose to geotarget the participating countries (and so not 'global', as per some requests in the table), also taking into account the feedback we received from some communities last year. Same reason why the banner will not show every day, but one in ~5 days (but for the full period of the requested two months). Please let me know if the banner design is okay like this: I need you to check and confirm before I enable. Ciell (talk) 13:04, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Ciell, yes the preview looks OK. Also I have started adding the translations. Thanks. – Ammarpad (talk) 13:32, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the quick confirmation Ammarpad! I'll turn it on today. Ciell (talk) 13:39, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
