This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia projects which do not have a local permissions procedure.

Old sections are archived. The list of archives is below.

 • Requests for bot flags are handled at SRB, and requests for global permissions are handled at SRGP.
 • If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).
 • For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel. In emergencies, type !steward in the channel to get the attention of stewards. Otherwise, you can type @steward for non-urgent help.

Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Quick navigation: Administrator | Interface administrator | Bureaucrat | CheckUser | Oversight | Removal of access | Miscellaneous | Global permissions

Cross-wiki requests
Meta-Wiki requests

Using this page

1. Place the following code at the bottom of the appropriate section below:

Username@xxproject
(your remarks) ~~~~

2. Fill in the values:

 • domain: the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
 • user name: the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case you're requesting access for multiple bots, leave this field blank and give a list of these bots in your remarks
 • discussion: a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser"). This should normally be for at least one week, but no more than three weeks (if so, you'll need to restart the process).

3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Confirmation of signing confidentiality agreement

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to sign a confidentiality agreement. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also sign the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the Office.

Requests

COPY THE FOLLOWING CODE to the bottom of the appropriate section below:

user name@xxproject
Administrator access

See administrator for information about the position. Requests for removal of access belong in another section. Admins doing cross-wiki work may wish to see IRC/wikimedia-admin for information about joining #wikimedia-admin.

If you are requesting administrator status to translate the wiki interface, this should be done at the translatewiki.net instead (see mw:localisation). You can ask questions in the IRC channel or on the mailing list.

If you are requesting adminship to handle one-time vandalism incidents or clearing a deletion backlog, please see Vandalism reports and Steward requests/Speedy deletions.

Stewards
Currently-active temporary permissions are listed at /Approved temporary; copy granted requests to the appropriate section there, stating the date of removal in the section header and at the bottom of the request. Please invite new sysops to the admin IRC channel.
Archiving
Requests only need remain listed below for a few days, and may afterward be removed as long as they have been copied to the subpage. Users who archive requests on that page, please check if the request was correctly added to the temporary subpage before removing it from this page.

For permanent sysopship please provide a link to the local community approval. For temporary sysopship please state for how long and for which tasks you need it, and link to a local announcement.

Michaelovic@arc.wikipedia

Hi, I would like to ask for permanent administrator/sysop status for the Aramaic Wikipedia. Currently there is only one active admin. Having admin rights would make it easier to revert vandalism and would also make work much faster than it is now. I would also not be dependent of only one active admin. Thanks in advance. Michaelovic 09:57, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. First of all please make a request in a more public page, like the talk page of the main page or in the community discussion page (if any); then wait at least a week to gauge (if any) community consensus. In base of the results of that voting we will consider this request. Thanks, --dferg ☎ talk 18:55, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Dear,
Here you can find the link where the voting took place. Since the 15th of September, everybody had the chance to vote. Because there is only one active member besides me, there is only one vote (Pro ofcourse), and personally I don't think there will be more votes. I hope you will approve my request now. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Greetins, Michaelovic 15:05, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
So far, there seems to be a minimum standard for permanent adminship which has not been met by your election. Please keep your voting open until the end of the month. It is likely that you should consider extending your temporary access instead. Kylu 02:43, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Kylu, thank you for commenting. May I point out that the minimum standards for permanent Admins are just suggestions. These suggestions are not manditory since the discussion of the numbers are too high is still going on and the spirit of it is only approved by one person. I personally really have my doubts that a still going on discussion about suggestions could be manditory since no community has voted this to be a permanent manditory guideline. Therefore these minimum standards are not applicable on my case at the moment. With that in our mind, I hope you will approve my request now because I have met on all other conditions. Thank you in advance. Michaelovic 12:12, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Abstain I keep requesting that people comment there, and yet they do not. As it is, stewards have not considered one or two votes enough to establish a firm local community consensus on the subject of granting permanent sysop rights. Since we disagree on the matter, I'll abstain from marking this as "not done" so it's not counted as an action: I'm only commenting as a concerned Meta user. Kylu 12:03, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is it possible to grant me temporary adminship for a year then? This would be a compromis I think.. Would you agree with that? Thanks in advance. Michaelovic 18:28, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Currently I have 2 votes. Perhaps waiting till the end of the month is a good idea, hoping there will be more votes. Let's keep this request abstained for one more week. Thank you. Michaelovic 20:29, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
We generally grant three month terms to people who are starting out as a temporary sysop, six months for those who have done the job for a while and have gained the trust of both the local community and stewards, but merely can't attain the requisite number of votes. Generally those people also have significant experience as administrators on Wikimedia Foundation projects already. Year-long temporary adminships are fairly rare, and nearly never granted to new temporary administrators. Either way, I've already abstained from deciding on your case. Best of luck. Kylu 23:53, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've just added the link to the public discussion (with two votes, which is pretty much the entire active community). Aramaic is considered an endangered language and, consequently, doesn't have a lot of speakers (therefore, there aren't many Aramaic Wikipedia users). The two votes that Michaelovic does have come from well established users (both are administrators with 2000+ edits). When you look at it that way, Michaelovic has support from the majority (if not all) of the active and established users. --334a 16:17, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have to agree with Kylu. We never promote somebody to permanent sysop status with only 2 support votes (generally with +5), and the RfC is going that way. So Done, expires: 01/01/2011 please remember to translate the interface at betawiki: only and to upload images preferably to commons:, please come back a few days before the status expires to prolong it or hold a local voting if the community grows, thanks --dferg ☎ talk 07:51, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucrat access

Steward requests/Permissions/Crat-header

MalTsilna@ttwikibooks

Please Bureaucrat access discussion of local edition on Tatar Wikibooks. In this project to date, no active bureaucrats, so the project can not develop. Thank you! —— Ильнар Шайдуллов 13:03, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please put a link to the public discussion and vote. Thank you, --dferg ☎ talk 13:16, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
One vote (by and for yourself) and you haven't contacted the existing local bureaucrat yet (who is the only other admin on the project) at all. It's not very likely that your request will succeed without a significant number of regular contributors. Please see Requests for comment/Minimum voting requirements#Minimum requirements to elect Bureaucrats for more information. Kylu 04:23, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
User is personally asking for votes here. --dferg ☎ talk 23:24, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Canvassing is not the way to go. Per dferg, it is very unlikely you will not get a bureaucrat flag without an active community. Stewards should be able to handle bureaucratic tasks for now. I-20the highway 23:06, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not done with notes:
 1. Bureaucrats are not required to form a community, a community is required to create bureaucrats. I really don't see how giving you the ability to rename users and promote bots and admins is going to draw people to your project. We can do that just fine until you've got a community in place.
 2. Canvassing for votes is usually a good way to ensure that whatever position you're trying to get, you won't get. Please don't do this in the future.
 3. It's generally a good idea to subst: your welcome template instead of simply placing it on user talkpages, as they tend to be highly used (or, will hopefully be in the future) and a small change will affect a great number of user talkpages.
Otherwise, please continue to build your content and community. Perhaps the next time you request bureaucratship, it can be granted. Kylu 12:15, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Zawthet@Myanmar Wikipedia

I would like to request for Bureaucrat access in Myanmar Wikipedia as there is no active local Bureaucrat. Zawthet 09:36, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My office confirmation is fulfilled but as we need to have at least two CUs to begin, please wait until User:ماني is also confirmed (in terms of personal identification). Huji 12:55, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ماني@fawiki

per discussion above , as local crat , i closed the RFCU as successful , i also asked from the user to send identification to the foundation as soon as possible Mardetanha talk 17:51, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oversight access

To request to have content oversighted, ask in #wikimedia-stewards, or email oversight-l@lists.wikimedia.org for requests regarding English Wikipedia. This is the place to request Oversight access. Note that temporary Oversight access is not permitted and the temporary status is only used by Stewards.

Stewards
Do not grant Oversight access unless the user is identified to the foundation, which will be announced on the Identification noticeboard. When you give someone oversight access, list them on Oversight.

Removal of access

<translate>

 • If you're requesting the removal of your own permissions, make sure you're logged in to your account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request (see previous discussion on 24 hour delays); the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.
 • To request the removal of another user's permissions, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, provide a link to the discussion, with a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. However, as bureaucrats of some wikis may remove users from the administrator or bureaucrat group, please see also a separate list of these specific wikis.
 • To request the removal of another user's permissions for inactivity, link to your local inactivity policy. If your site does not have inactivity policy, the global policy Admin activity review applies.
 • See the instructions above for adding new requests. Please post new requests at the bottom of the section.</translate>

Shizhao@zh.wikipedia

Shizhao, the mightiest bureaucrat of zh.wikipedia, is using bots to do mass edits out of the range permitted, even running some bots without permissions. He asserts it should be acceptable and unnecessary to get permissions. He refused to stop his bots.

We don't have Arbitration Committee to judge this issue, so that we request Meta-Wiki to block his bots and investigate the fact of Shizhao's abuse of power. --百楽兎 02:28, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You don't need an Arbitration Committee to have a working dispute resolution process. Local administrators and bureaucrats can block Shizhao and bots if requested to do so by the community. I'm afraid you have not linked to a local discussion or outcome of a dispute resolution process on your project, so we cannot perform rights changes based on your assertion. If you want to start a discussion on the matter, the ideal location would be locally, but you may do so at Meta's RFC if you'd like instead. At the moment, this is a clear Not done. Update us if your community has reached a consensus please. Kylu 02:39, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

We still need a policy or a decicion by the community to remove the rights... Laaknor 19:00, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Laaknor, I don't think that makes sense. This is a confirmed sockpuppet account which was only created to see how many flags a sock can get... Seb az86556 22:42, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There was some discussion on the admins' noticeboard, although I'm not sure it counts as local consensus for desysopping since there was only one person who proposed that. Anyway, if the community supports an indefinite block of the account I can't see how they would support the same user retaining admin rights in the project.
