Hi J. delanoy[edit]

Dear, could you fix the table of paralell projects on Wikimedia Brasil/Mutirões/Oficinas WikinINDI page? You reverted my edition but leave behind problems concerning those links. You can start translating it too. Regards, Nevinho 10:56, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid I don't know what you are trying to do. After I reverted, I immediately wished I had not, but I didn't know what to do to fix it. Sorry. J.delanoygabsadds 15:48, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades... (our budget is smaller than Commons)

J.delanoy, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Meta. Please take a moment to read the Meta:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat, and Meta:Requests for deletion, but also Talk:Spam blacklist and Talk:Interwiki map), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.

A tip: add this page Meta:Administrators' discussion index to your watchlist, it tracks the latest activity to various sections of many of the important pages.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-admin @ irc.freenode.net. You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading although it doesn't always completely apply here at Meta.

Please also check or add your entry to Meta:Administrators#List_of_administrators and the Template:List of administrators.

I just wanted to use the template and say "felicidades" to you. Best regards and welcome to the admin team, —Dferg (talk) 14:37, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

FiLLL abuses people on the internet / wikipedia[edit]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SP2mzwv6wgs&fmt=22

listen to your user:FiLLL and tag this guy as a racist criminal who runs around the internet harrassing people. I am not a wiki guy, could you post this to your superiors or whatever?

Two problems with your post. One, if you believe that sort of thing, you need a lot of help. Two, that video has twelve pageviews including mine, which means that the odds that you are not the person who posted it are essentially nil. So explain to me why I shouldn't just block you? missing archives[edit]

Hi. A few weeks ago you deleted the pages Talk:Wikimedia Canada/Proposed by-laws/Archive1 and Talk:Wikimedia Canada/Proposed by-laws/Archive1 Talk:Wikimedia Canada/Proposed by-laws/Archive2 with the comment that the page was moved, but I can't find the new locations of the pages and I can't see the moves in your log. Can you please point me to where they are now? Thanks. --Arctic.gnome 15:23, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I figured out what happened. He tagged the /archive1 (not capitalized) then moved it to /Archive1. Restored now, and sorry for the confusion. J.delanoygabsadds 16:01, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. The other missing page is Archive2 (the above was a typo). --Arctic.gnome 17:22, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

J.delanoy@nv[edit]

Hi - though not yet official, there a high chance you will become a steward; however, for some reason your account does not exist on Navajo Wikipedia. To prevent the possibility of imposters (as has happened in the past), please take a moment and go there to claim your good name. Thank you. Seb az86556 09:32, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your concern, but there are a lot of projects where I don't have accounts. I am reasonably sure that SUL prevents imposters from taking the same name as an SUL'ed account. Considering how many people have attacked me in the past - mostly on en, but some on other projects - I think that someone would already have created accounts in my name on projects that I have not visited, if it were possible for them to do so. In any case, I visited nv.wikipedia, and it says in my prefs that I am registered (Registration time: 14:30, 3 March 2010), but for some reason, it doesn't show up in the log. Sinhala Wikipedia[edit]

Hi J.delanoy, There is a organised paid editing incident going on currently in the Sinhala Wikipedia. Since we have little enforcement capabilities back there I thought it's to time to inform the stewards. si:user:ෆෙලිඩේ creates a batch of articles at once and append this message to bottom of the pages.

This article has been translated from the English wikipedia by felidae, http://www.felidae.lk.. This initiative is sponsored by the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), http://www.icta.lk. Support and access to rural communities provided by Practical Action (formerly ITDG), http://practicalaction.org/?id=region_south_asia.

The Sinhala Wikipedia community has raised concerns over the intention and the quality of the works of Felidae. For example, fragmenting articles into several parts is a feature of Felidae's editing behaviour. For example, the article si:පෞද්ගලික ජීවිතය (Sinhala for "personal life") is a translation of the en:Barrack Obama#Family and personal life starting from fourth paragraph. By looking closely at their editing I believe they translating it using a software and a dictionary. The more compelling issues here I reckon are, this could be considered as inter-language paraphrasing. Further more I believe no need to tell you that paid editing is controversial. The alleged sponsor of Felidae is the ICTA, a semi-governmental organisation of the GoSL. If we can complete the Wikipedia by automation and paying someone to do that, I believe Wikipedia's principles are in jeopardy. If ICTA (the biggest culprit here in my view) wants to improve this project, better they have a some sort of prior MoU signed with the Wikimedia foundation. The community has started a discussion on the situation in Wikipedia:කෝපි කඩේ#ෆෙලිඩේ ව්‍යාපෘතිය. I'll be so grateful if you could leave your opinion there and do something immediately to relieve the situation. Thanks in advance and cheers--Chanakal 02:33, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'll take a cursory glance, but I'm pretty much tied up with exams at the moment, so I may or may not be able to take a deep look in the near future. You may wish to ask another steward to help you. Sorry. J.delanoygabsadds 03:03, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

re:Hi[edit]

I do not know where your administrator notice board is, so I am writing to you on your discussion page.

I am a steward, and since this wiki does not have local check users, I gave myself check user rights here for a short time to learn if I could block the person who is attacking articles related to Disney movies. I blocked the IP address ranges, that this person uses most often, for three months. I blocked them so that not even users who have accounts can edit this wiki. I did this because there is no person editing on those three ranges except the vandal. If you wish to block them for longer than three months, you can. If you wish to remove my blocks, please do. I just wanted the local administrators to know that I blocked these ranges, and why I blocked them.

Thank you for your time.

Kind regards,

You can see the ranges I blocked at this link. J.delanoy 2 Jiona 2010 à 23:06 (UTC)
Hi,
Thank you for helping me to block this vandal who dirts our wiki for several months now. He always tries to bypass blockages by account-creating. And I hope, by blocking his IP adress range, that we will not deal with him before long.
I also protected the page to prevent him and other potential vandals to vandalize them.

Blocked IP[edit]

Hello,

I was recently browsing around on a Wikipedia page, and clicked 'edit' out of curiousity. When I did this, I got a message saying my IP had been blocked until early 2011 for 'cross-wiki abuse'. This confused me somewhat as, so far as I can remember, I've never edited a Wikipedia page. I don't think I even have a Wikipedia account. The message said you were the one that blocked me, so I was curious if you could remember why you blocked me/what it was I'd done. I'm not terribly worried about the block as, as I said, I don't edit pages or use any of the other editable Wikipedia functions - I'm just a bit confused as to why it's happened. Thanks for your help...

At the time I blocked your IP, it was an open proxy. It does not appear to be open any more, so I will unblock it. J.delanoygabsadds 00:35, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your userpage@svwiki[edit]

The troubles on Commons[edit]

Hi, I noticed your retracted message. Indeed, Commons is a project with troubles. Administrators pretty much do as they like, without accountability. So Adambro was annoyed that a discussion he is tired of had started again, and he blocked three contributors without warning, which he feels is justified because of what had been said last year. Altough commons:COM:BLOCK says that blocks are a last resort. You are of course right that this was a punitive measure, which is very clear because the file had already been protected.

We three were only blocked for a week. On Commons, admins also issue permanent blocks without any reason, you can see that in my own block log. But see also commons:Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Blocks & protections#Please unblock Elkawe. Or look at Rama who had blanned Hcrepin for unclear reasons. When Hcrepin complained, no admin heard his pleas, until I brought it up at the commons irc channel. Then Herbythyme called the block ludicrous, and Abigor unblocked him.

I could go on and on, but I will leave it at this. /Pieter Kuiper 06:21, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

See also commons:Commons:Village pump#Admin deleting talk page comments and edit warring: the same admin that blocked Liftarn, Malcolm Schosha, and me because of single reverts, engages in an edit war with four reverts. /Pieter Kuiper 18:43, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Header added[edit]

Hello,

For the first time I wrote an article for Wikipedia. It was like this. Searching for information on psychic driving in Polish Wikipedia, I did not find any, what I found was an article on English Wikipedia entitled ‘psychic driving’. I decided to translate it just to find out what it is like to write an article on Wikipedia. First I couldn't find a way to add Polish translation to the existing English one and to other language versions. After translated it, I hoped that somebody will notice it and will add my article to another language versions, but instead, the article was deleted. I ask why?

I would like you to notice that my translation groups the information better than the original English version and though follows closely the original, provides only one additional element, the most valuable source on the subject: Adam Curtis's documentary 'You Have Used Me as a Fish Long Enough'. I hope that you know the Polish language and could notice all that I have pointed out here. Anyway, you should have provided the reason(s) for your deletion.

With regards, Dariusz Śmietanka

Steward role[edit]

Hi. I am putting myself forward for consideration as steward. Juliancolton is indicating that I may be misunderstanding the role of steward - Stewards/elections_2011/Questions#SilkTork. Would you be able to give me a brief summary of your activities as a steward, so I can make an informed judgement. Thanks SilkTork 12:18, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

From my point of view, in a nutshell, stewards are the ones who do things that no one else can do on a project. If a project lacks admins, bureaucrats, checkusers, and/or oversighters, stewards are the ones who will step in and perform any necessary actions. Setting and removing user rights when there are no local users with the necessary permissions to do so is only one facet of what stewards do, and in many cases, the easiest. You will effectively become a checkuser, an oversighter, and an admin for all projects which have no local users with these rights. It is not as bad as holding those rights on the English Wikipedia, but be aware that you will have people accuse you of abusing these permissions. You will also have to work with communities made up of people who may or may not think the same way you do. Each project has a unique outlook on the world, and beyond the standard global policies of maintaining neutrality, etc., each one has a different set of policies, guidelines, and social expectations. There are even different interpretations of the core policies in a few very sensitive areas.
Even if you do not understand the language of the project, and even if they use a language which you do understand to make the request, people who come to you with requests from these projects will not always come with the same preconceptions that you do. That is why Juliancolton made the point about doing some crosswiki work before running for steward. I cannot easily give a specific example, but it is definitely a very eye-opening experience to interact with people on other projects, especially the relatively smaller ones. It is probably equivalent to my experience when I first started talking with people around the world, after for the entirety of my life talking only to people who live within a few hundred kilometers around my house.
Note that I am not saying that I think you would be a bad steward if elected, but you should know that especially the English Wikipedia has a radically different culture than the other projects do, and it may come as a shock how different other projects are. J.delanoygabsadds 18:03, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your very clear explanation. I have a lot of experience with other cultures. I am a TEFL teacher with experience of teaching a range of cultures, Asian, Muslim, East European, etc. Also, my wife is French, with all that brings - getting married in France, and bringing up our child in both a British and French culture. Do you think it would help if I mention that? SilkTork 09:01, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that sort of thing is necessary, but I don't know. The whole "different culture" thing is just what stood out to me most strongly when I began to work on other projects besides just enwiki, and to talk to people who were not based on enwiki. J.delanoygabsadds 00:42, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know either. Thanks again for your helpful comments. SilkTork 00:58, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Block of 202.156.10.13[edit]

The request Steward requests/Global#Global block.2Funblock for 202.156.10.13 would seem to have validity as it looks to be a caching IP for a Singaporean ISP (202.156.10.13.cache.maxonline.com.sg). If it is a cache, then honeypots would very likely give a false positive for another IP from within the system. billinghurst sDrewth 11:02, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked account question[edit]

Hello, I established the usuario:QorvisEditor handle so that established wiki editors could have a direct dialogue with the Qorvis firm. I was blocked for using an open proxy, which the firm uses to maintain security. The purpose of this editor handle is not to edit article submissions. I am not sure how this handle could be a "sock puppet" or "meat puppet" if we are being transparent about who we are. I would appreciate any advice about obtaining an unblock. Thank you.

Are you ready to block me yet[edit]

My block as expired so I thought I would come here first and give you the opportunity to block me first before I do something to earn it!. Global block of 198.24.6.168[edit]

When I attempted to edit an article I discovered this IP is blocked by you at 22:35, 27 February 2013 on all wikis by on for the following reason: open proxy.

When I visited the Steward_requests/Global/2013-02 page to research why it is considered to be an open proxy I find no mention of the IP nor as near as I can see any containing network block, nor any block with that exact timestamp.

A second point of confusion for me is that I am quite certain I have edited at least one article after that time and before today, although possibly my corporate network could have been re-configured so that my activity appeared at a different proxy.

Regardless of all these things, this IP is the outgoing proxy for the corporate network for the Swedish telecom firm Ericsson (my current employer), and isn't configured to be an open proxy.

I removed the lock. I have no words to properly revile myself for such an astonishing lack of awareness. I... really do not know what to say, because there is nothing to say. I don't like logging in on my main account from my phone, but this situation was so horrible that it demands immediate resolution. Since I am on my phone now, it is awkward to do much more than undo the immediate problem, but when I get to a more appropriate device, assure you that I will do whatever is necessary to answer for this shocking error, and I will accept whatever consequences there may be. Updated scripts[edit]

Hello J.delanoy. I updated your common.js page to the latest version of StewardScript. This is mainly to enable automatic updates, but it also includes a few fixes. If you notice any problems or have questions, let me know! :) —Pathoschild 04:05, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. I edited your global.js and common.js to update you to the latest version of ajax sysop and StewardScript, which are compatible with the latest MediaWiki changes and reside on the Wikimedia Tool Labs for easier updates. I also updated deprecated functions, and marked monobook.js and vector.js for deletion since they duplicate your global.js (which causes scripts to load twice now that global user pages are live). Let me know if anything breaks. :) —Pathoschild 20:25, 22 March 2015 (UTC)

Global CSS/JS migration[edit]

Hello J.delanoy. You have global scripts in User:J.delanoy/global.js, which you import using your local JS pages. Since August 2014, your global.js and global.css pages are loaded automatically on all wikis. Since you already import them yourself, you may experience script errors or tools being added twice. Do you want me to remove the global imports from your local pages using Synchbot (without changing any other content)? —Pathoschild 01:51, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi again! I haven't heard back from you, so I'll assume you don't want to do this. Feel free to leave me a message or add a Synchbot request if you change your mind. :) —Pathoschild 16:55, 09 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
