Truncated interwiki map?[edit]

Hello Walter. Please note that I've partially reverted your recent changes to the Interwiki map, which by apparent accident truncated the table. The other edits were left as-is, except for an alphabetisation change. —[admin] Pathoschild 14:25, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. This is not the first time I have this problem. I suspect there is a problem with MediaWiki and my browser (FireFox 1.5.0.2/Linux) working together. --Walter 21:34, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

De-adminship because of violation of "administration ethics"[edit]

How do you think, if an administrator violates so-called "administration ethics", but does not violate any Wikipedia rule, may administration privileges be dropped? --Jaroslavleff 16:45, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly. The function of a admin is to serve his community. If a other admin is acting very strongly against the benefit of that community it is the responsibly of any other admin to stop that admin. Even if there is no formal rule broken. If you contact my because I am steward; I am not a universal wikipedia-judge. It is up to the local community and sysops to take there responsibility. --Walter 20:00, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

CURRENTISOYEAR[edit]

You reverted my addition of the CURRENTISOYEAR to the date announcement. I really should have commented my revision so you would at least know why I did it. Anyway, I ask that you consider re-adding it because the CURRENTWEEK template follows the ISO year, which doesn't agree with the calendar year for a few days around the turn of the year. The ISO year is week-justified such that every week begins on a Monday and ends on Sunday. The year that contains the Thursday of that week determines whether it is week 52 or 53 of year X or week 1 of year X+1. The upcoming year transition will be a breeze since 2006-12-31 is a Sunday. However, 2007-12-31 is a Monday and will be part of week 1 of 2008. So, your date announcement on that date will say, "Today it is: Monday 31 December 2007, 21st century and this is week 1", which will appear to be a mistake without the ISO year specified. —BozoTheScary 20:33, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Atomuim images[edit]

There are quite often images of Atomium uploaded on Commons. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomium for what Atomium is.

In Belgium there is evidently no such thing as freedom of panorama, and the owners of Atomium have explicively denied permission to use images of the Atomium on Wikipedia. So we delete these from Commons, again and again. As this is getting a little tedious, it would be desirable if users stopped uploading Atomium images on Commons -- unless they want to argue for a change of policy.

/ Fred Chess 09:01, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I now about this problem. I have voted agianst keeping those images on commons. For the Dutch Wikipedia I have found a way out. There is now a €2 coin with the picture of the atomium. So now there is image that can be used. See w:nl:Atomium.
Why are you contacting me? Do you want me to do something? --Walter 13:11, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I thought you could add it to the Wikizine. You redirect questions about the Wikizine to this page. / Fred Chess 23:22, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I send Wikizine comments to this page. But it was not clear to me that this was in relation of Wikizine.
I do not see how I can use this for Wikizine. Thanks for the effort. --Walter 09:25, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So in other words: people should stop uploading Atomium images, or argue to change the policy. Either is good. / Fred chessplayer 23:26, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

--Walter 11:51, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Walter[edit]

I noticed you are using a blog to post about wikimedia - I found that sort of funny :-) If you want to have your wikizine hosted on wiki software, we'd be delighted to host and promote your service.

If not, sorry for the spam :-)

Gil Wikia.com

Hi Gil, thanks for your interest. Before going with Blogger(TM) I have looking around how to do this best. And for what I needed is a blog the best solution. I only need to post a message, not work on it with other people. For the construction of Wikizine I use Meta. And support for adding comments and so. A wiki is not what I need for this. I do have wikizine-wiki only that i use but that is only place to put some comments, purely an internal stuff. --Walter 17:43, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikizine: Meervoude[edit]

Haai Walter!

Groet, --Walter 21:12, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikispecies[edit]

Hi there, here is short statement about wikispecies.

Wikispecies is a Wikimedia project designed to be a directory of species. There are currently about a dozen active editors and over 60,000 listings. It is similar to Commons in that it is monolingual. We are working on the fine line between being a framework of species with links to information in all of the various wikipedias and containing that information here. Searching is always challenging when working in multiple languages. We hope to utilize wikidata when it becomes available to serve up the data. Come check us out at wikispecies:Main_Page

Wikimedia Conferentie Nederland - inschrijving[edit]

Hoi walter,

Wikizine/tmp[edit]

I'm very impressed in lists on Wikizine/tmp as a Wikiquoter. This kind of lists are useful for many people ... Can you let me know what kind of distinction is between groep 1 and 2? Thanks. --Aphaia 09:38, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

? That is purely something "internal". I am doing promotion for Wikizine. I have posted request for help on the projects mailing lists. And now I have started to work me slowly true all wikis to ask there in there "village pump" of the are willing to add a banner to there local village pump page and/or community portal. Like on q:en:Wikiquote:Village_pump#Request - no responds yet. The first project I am doing is Wikiquote. "Groep 1" are the wikis where I have asked it last week. "Groep 2" are the wikis I am asking it now this week. That is only for me to see what I have already done. And I also need to watch frequently those pages to see of there is responds.
I am also updating the language links of q:en:Wikiquote:Village pump when I find new village pumps. I add not all wikis because not everywhere I can discover the village pump. Then I post it on the talk page of the Main page or the community portal. --Walter 09:55, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your respond. Your list recalled me a similar list being created by the Internal subcom, it seems not to be finished yet.
As for English & Latin Wikiquote, I'll urge other editors to consider your request. Cheers, --Aphaia 10:05, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Announcement from Commons: Most images on Vigeland Sculpture Park will be deleted[edit]

Not sure if this is the sort of message you broadcast on the Zine, but I don't know of any other means of addressing all Wikipedia projects. If you know of any, kindly let me know.

This post is about images on Vigeland Sculpture park that can not be used for commercial exploitation, such as printed on T-shirt. The debate is at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Deletion_requests#Most_images_on_Vigeland_Sculpture_Park

Some Wikipedias may want to upload images from the park as fair use on their Wikipedia project. I would recommend everyone to check their articles on Gustav Vigeland and on the Vigeland sculpture park. They could also check all images on http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Vigeland_Sculpture_Park for use in unrelated contents.

The effected images are those where individual sculptures are prominent. Overviws of the park are accepted. If an image is not tagged for deletion, it is not risking to be deleted.

Oh, I just got it, I thought I had to leave some kind of message on my page. By the way, why is it important to know who is reporting an admin? --WIKI SERBIA 19:41, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It is importand that a user who whish to be de-sysoped to do that in a way so that there can be no discussion of that user is who he says he is and what he wants. --Walter 20:19, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Didn't get that. Can u re-formulate that?--Manojlo 19:25, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A message is posted "I am user X from project Y. De-sysop me please". -> Then I, as a steward, need to be certain that this request is true. That not someone else is posting that. A good way to be sure is that this users writes on his talk page on his home wiki when loged-in the same request. Then, I, the steward can verify that it is indeed that users who is requesting this and not someone else. --Walter 19:48, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thats not the case here. Forget about the request of Slaven, look at my request for a second. Slaven was blocked for abusing admin powers, and was told that he will automatically lose his powers if he unblocks himself. He unblocked himself. I have provided links. Please remove Slaven's admin powers. --WIKI SERBIA 02:50, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you have a de-sysop request use the requests for permissions page, not my talk page. --Walter 10:23, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You have 25 bureaucrats on your wiki. If this de-sysop of that user is incorrect then one of them can restore the status of that user. --Walter 22:20, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's not the point. But ok, Ausir fixed the thing :D --Filip (§) 23:13, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have said that because it was not clear who was here the troll. Restoring the status of that user by a local bureaucrat easy and a clear indication that the request for de-sysoping was false. The whole request here was confusing. I had the impression that it was valid but that the request did not understand my explanations how the should prove that the request was valid. I have done a checkuser and because those 3 voters and Wiki Serbia had other ip addresses and that the userpage and talk page of the to de-sysop user was blank I felt that it was likely that the request was invalid. The fact that after the de-sysop you came here to ask to restore the user rights instead of doing it locally whit one of your 25 bureaucrats. That was from my POV very suspicious and it was giving me the impression that you where the one with the false request.
I have requested a mailinglist for stewards. The I will be possible for stewards to ask advice from the other stewards. This can help for situations where there is confusion. --Walter 08:23, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think that guys forgot to use their bureaucrat rights... :) (i.e. "if steward removed rights, then only steward is able to back them") --Millosh 14:58, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Because you never know for sure until you tested it I have done that. A user de-sysoped by a steward can be restored to power by a local bureaucrat. --Walter 21:12, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am very well aware of that, thank you very much. The thing is: I didn't want to do it myself, because it would seem to be a deed of my own. That's why I wanted a neutral, unbiased as far as possible, person who would do the honors. And that worked. --Filip (§) 10:00, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please tell me what kind of material would you be interested in having? A personal profile? A chatty letter about my views about the board and its future? Analysis of the election itself? Something else? I will gladly provide whatever you would like to have for your wikizine. -- Cimon Avaro 02:32, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What you write is up to you. I offer you space, you fill it like you see fit. I think you best assume that the reader has not (yet) read you statement on meta. There is a link on the sitenotice to it on most wikis but I am very sceptical that many people are clicking on it and reading it. I would say; try to write something to present yourself, to give a good impression and invite people to go to meta read more or that thr contact you.
To give an idea about the available space see Wikizine/Example-2. That contains 2 dummy statements, the are about 300 words with a couple with lines between it. Try to not make it lager then that. It is likely I can include this in the next edition, together with that of Erik. If you prefer to have the first spot on the page then you can get the first spot in edition of one week later; week 35. You can put your text on Talk:Wikizine/2006-34 when you are ready. --Walter 10:42, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  1. It happened that on Monday, August 14th, one Wikipedian found himself on air on RAI1, the first national TV broadcast. The program, Uno Mattina Estate is a general container, and the interview was held by Eleonora Daniele. The producers had also invited for the interview Enrico Cogno, a professor at the University of Perugia, and Federica Lanzellotto, a student from Rome. The subject of the interview was "Wikipedia: il sapere per tutti", with the aim of understanding how Wikipedia is getting more and more present in everyday's life.
  2. On September 2nd, Italian Wikipedians are going to meet in Valentano, near Viterbo, and in the afternoon they will attend to the second Annual Meeting for Wikimedia Italia, the Italian Chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation. The assembly is going to elect a new Board and the meeting is going also to approve the budgets and to delineate the strategies for achieving a better promotion to Wikimedia Projects in Italy. Details can be found in Wikipedia:Raduni/Viterbo_2006 and in the Wikimedia Italia website: http://www.wikimedia.it/ .

The theme of the next contest is still not known, but will possibly have something to do with geography. (Ecelan)
What is Articulo destacado? Very good articles? --Walter 18:57, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Election statement[edit]

Hi - if you could publish the following in Wikizine (which I find very informative), I'd be very grateful. (Little different from the other statement, but I've made a few changes.) Charles Matthews 11:17, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a candidate with experience and skills useful for the Wikimedia Board. I'm not a technical person, and have not been active on Wikimedia issues, preferring to focus on the English Wikipedia. (On en-WP I'm best known for writing about mathematics and poetry, and as as admin and Arbitrator. See User:Charles Matthews there for more.)
I come without any specific template for the WMF. For manifesto, I would say that we still have to match up some things. Implementing the best distance learning experiences, when we know that factual content is a Long Tail phenomenon (to speak modishly), means we have to be both collectively smart and better in the humanities. The aim is to become comprehensive, but also comprehensible and comprehending on a global scale. These are ambitious slogans.
Background: I had 10 post-doctoral years in academia (1978-1989), at the University of Cambridge, with years in France and the USA. After that I have been a voluntary worker in a number of contexts, including publicity work and raising sponsorship. I have written two books (one conventional, one with a Korean friend published online), and many articles. I have travelled, in East Asia, and recently in Uganda, where in June I gave a well-attended lecture on Wikipedia. I speak reasonable French, and some Russian. I'm a married parent.
The role of the Board: what other online extended community gets to hire its own support staff? The Board has stewardship of the most important piece of hypertext ever. Some intangibles, such as 'wiki culture' and 'motivational working atmosphere', matter as much as money. The scale of Wikimedia projects now means that straight management sometimes applies; but the biggest challenge remains the harnessing of those writing on the wikis to projects in the larger scheme. This means not losing sight of the old-school way of thinking.
In short, I have outside experience, communication skills, and a traditionalist wiki approach.
Discuss matters with me at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Charles_Matthews/WMF_Board_Election_2006. Another version of this statement is on the formal candidacy page http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Election_candidates_2006/Charles_Matthews/En.

Thanks. Looks fine. Are you sure you do not want to include a link to your statement on meta or to you talk page or so? Some path for readers who like to know more or ask a question.
Depending on the feedback or lack of feedback from the other candidates your statement will be send out this week or next week with the normal wikizine. --Walter 11:51, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Arno Lagrange's statement[edit]

I am running as a candidate for the board of trustees in order to defend linguistic equal rights. We must try to find a way that any person from any project, speaking any language, can participate in discussions and decisions. Unfortunately, important discussions/decisions all happen in American English, making those who are not good speakers of that language unable to take part. True multilingualism and perspective, provided by an international neutral auxillary language (it could be Esperanto) is absolutely necessary.

It might seem trivial that in my statement I treat only the language question and none other. But as long as this important problem is not solved correctly, it seems impossible for me to look further into any other subject. How does someone enter a debate on some important subject if, because of a language barrier, I, like a great many users, cannot understand well what it is about? There is certainly an effort to develop some amount of multilingualism on meta (such as, for example, this election) but obviously the majority of the debates on the pages of meta, by IRC or mailing lists (e.g. Foundation-l) proceed only in English. I tried to become interested in certain questions but I am constantly overwhelmed by long English messages; they lack conciseness, a summary and even a summary in other languages. One can note that those used to the English language (whether native speakers or non-native English-speakers accustomed to using English every day) are totally unaware that they leave behind all those who do not use the language as well as themselves. They do not make any effort of conciseness, stuff important messages with unimportant chatter, slang or jargon, abbreviations (which one finds neither in the dictionary nor elsewhere). Consequently even with a pretty good level of English it is impossible to enter the debates when you do not have unlimited time.

My username change request[edit]

Hello Walter, now it's my turn to ask you for a somewhat complicated rename... When I arrived on Wikipedia, my Username wasn't the one that I wished (M/), but I remedied with M7 that is graphically similar. Unluckily, even this one was already taken on en.wiki, so I later registered M7it and asked the re-attribution for all the edits under my static IP address. Now, as the approaching SUL is to come, I've had a look at this and it appears that M7 has never contributed again since his registration date. Do you think that a rename of M7->M7- and M7it->M7 is feasible on en.wiki, or I've to wait until SUL comes? Thank you, M/ 13:39, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see no problem to give you on EN.wikipedia the user name M7. A few edits on one page in 2004. Clearly not an active user. But I can not burn my hands by doing this for you. This is a matter for a bureaucrat of the English Wikipedia. That bureaucrat needs to rename the account M7 to some other name, like M7_01 . After that the account name M7 is free again. And your account can be renamed to M7. But you need to find a bureaucrat of EN.wp who is willing to do that. Good luck. --Walter 15:53, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you again for your useful answer, I asked User:Cimon Avaro and he has already fulfilled the request, without hesitation since he did read your valuable opinion. Ciao, M/ 21:30, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

UninvitedCompany's statement[edit]

I'm a candidate for the Wikimedia Foundation board of directors. I believe that the board of directors should set up a decisionmaking structure rather than make individual decisions itself, and to that end I've advocated creating additional volunteer and paid positions within the Foundation with specific responsibilities. I think that would be one means to allow interested people to become active in their particular areas of interest at the Foundation level. Another of my proposals is the designation of two Foundation contacts for each project. Especially for smaller projects, that would be a means to be sure that each project both has a voice and remains accountable to the overall goals of openness and NPOV. I also support long-term independence for various languages as they become large enough to be self-sustaining. I've been involved at ENWP since March 2003, where I am a former member of the arbitration committee. I've participated at meta since before the inception of the Foundation, and am presently involved in the OTRS mail handling system. For more information about my candidacy, you can view my candidate statement or the discussion page where I have been replying to questions about my candidacy.

Ross Hedvicek statement[edit]

I'm a candidate for the Wikimedia Foundation board of trustees. My platform is not to change anything drastically, but to improve the current situation. For example - I am aware of cases of blatant abuse of power on several language branches of Wikipedia in eastern Europe. I made the board aware of these cases. However, no action was taken by the board. This was not because they weren't aware of the problems but because of the language barrier preventing them from making reasonable decisions and possibly due to lack of familiarity with the history, realities and facts of life in that part of the world. I am more than qualified to rectify this situation.

My election slogan is: The crap has to stop - vote for me - it is your chance for change. I have a reputation to uphold!

Nathan Carter Statement[edit]

I am Nathan Carter (also known as Cartman02au) and I am standing as a candidate for the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees. Encouraging the establishment of local chapters in as many nations as possible. With foundation matters at present, I hold a position on the Chapters Committee and am involved in the setup of Wikimedia Australia. I see local chapters as one of the best vehicles to promote our projects, bring in new users and provide support on a local level, something that remains to be important even in our internationalised society.

The foundation faces many challenges in the future as we tread on new ground with little guidance. We are doing something new, we need to provide the guidance for future free content organisations to follow in our footsteps.

please read my candidate's statement at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Election_candidates_2006/En#Oscar. from this i take an excerpt:

whether we are constructing an ark of noah for human knowledge, or "just" boldly working at the gradual completion of the tower of babel still remains to be seen, but i strongly believe that such is in our own hands for a larger part than could "reasonably be expected". please let it be clear that it is for this very reason that i most emphatically believe in the importance of the wmf's mission, and have been devoting most of my free time for 2,5 years now to the consolidation and further development of its projects and communities. i will continue to do so, no matter the outcome of these elections.

Wikizine[edit]

Hi, i want to ask you can you put in Wikizine something about Wikipedia Firefox Toolbar. It's a excellent tool and i'm using it every time when i work on wikipedia. Soon, Firefox will be version 2.0 and toolbar isn't compatible with new version. I ask guy who make toolbar and he told me that he doesn't have time to work on toolbar to be compatible with new version of Mozilla Firefox 2.0. He, also, told me that i should try to find someone who will "overtake" whole project and who want to continue to work on it. User is <Bananeweizen> and he come to irc channel #mediawiki on Freenode network. Project have mailing list too and peoples who want to work on it can contact him through irc or that mailing list. I'm writing this to you because i think that best, and fastest, way to inform so many peoples about this problem is to put this "news" on Wikizine. So, please if you can put this "call" for developers on news release of Wikizine. Thanks you very much, best regards. --Sasa Stefanovic 13:12, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Subscription problem[edit]

I am hoping to respond to your request for a Wikizine banner inclusion on en:Wikiquote in the near future, so I thought it would be a good idea to subscribe and get a feel for Wikizine. However, my subscription does not appear to have completed correctly. I used the web subscription form, then clicked on the first "confirm" email's link to confirm my email address and get my password. I did get a "separate confirmation message" with "other useful information and links", but there was no password included.

I see that my timing is terrible, as usual, in that I decided to do this just after your started your vacation. When you return, please let me know how to get this subscription completed. Thank you. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 02:09, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikizine in portuguese[edit]

Hi Leonardo. That is nice. I hope this way some people will be able to read wikizine who it otherwise could not read it. To bring to all wikis the news (and get news back from them) is what I try to accomplish with wikizine. You have just started with this translation-service. The most difficult thing is to keep doing it, week after week. On other wikis people have done this also. But it never lasted very long. I hope you can. Greetings, Walter

sr:wikipedia[edit]

Can you help with this situation? An admins priviledges were removed 4 days before the voting on it ends, and I would like to request that you give Verlor's rights back and we'll see what happens after monday (if the community votes to remove his rights, remove them, if not, nothing). We can't just go on removing rights while the voting is in progress, right? Thanks, --The SrWiki User 22:25, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If that user is de-sysoped incorrectly then that is sad. But better that instead of other possiblity that you are a troll trying to get the status back form a problem user. There are many bureaucrats on the SR-wiki who can restore the status of the user if needed. Request rejected. --Walter 22:39, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The bureaucrats on sr-wiki just blocked Verlor indefinately. Doesn't this seem suspicious to you? Immediately after the desysoping, he is blocked indefinately! And the voting finishes on October 9th, check for yourself here. Thanks for being unfair and rejecting my noble request. --The SrWiki User 22:53, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Don't you get it? They broke the rules? Can you please just stop and think about it - they requested a desysoping in THE MIDDLE of the VOTING! This is an illegal move, can't you see? --The SrWiki User 23:00, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
btw, is there an arbitrary comission on Meta where I can present this unlawful behaviour? If Verlor's priviledges are not returned untill the end of the voting on Monday, this will cause a huge stir-up in sr wikipedia, and I really don't want to prosecute these people if I don't have to. I will forgive the mistake if his powers are returned untill Monday, when the voting FINISHES. Thank you, --The SrWiki User 23:02, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And please forget how many admins and bureaucrats there are on wiki, if they all break the rules, does that make it OK? Does it? --The SrWiki User 23:03, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia conundrum[edit]

There is a structural problem on Wikipedia whereby an admin can simply call people sockpuppets, block them and remove their benign comments in order to conceal the admins' wrongdoing. Those admin actions make it almost impossible to register a comment against the admin's actions.

My notice about personal attacks was removed and I was directed to a link where I can not now go because I have been blocked for a week by the admin making the personal attacks as she has imagined I am a sockpuppet(which is nonsense as you can see from my edit history).

I still believe the admin in question is on a personal attack rampage as I think calling many people (who engage in edit disputes with her) trolls and sockpuppets with no proof and then blocking them is personal attack and now she removed benign talk page comments made by me.

Sarah Ewart has now called me a sockpuppet and blocked me too so by the removal of my personal attack alert I suppose her abuses will continue. Were I to go to the trouble to address this at the comment link which I can't do for the next week anyway) she would likely just block me again. I do get involved in disputes regarding the English Wikipedia. Complain there. --Walter 15:03, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It has never have been the job of stewards to get involved in things like this. This is not open to discussion. Do not contact me or other stewards about this on meta or you will be blocked here also. --Walter 21:08, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Walter. I was wondering if it's possible to announce www.ValueWiki.com in Wikizine. The project goal is to provide coverage of all stocks and funds. Investors pool information using wiki. Basque Wikiproject and Portal[edit]

Hi, I just found out about the Wikizine and thought this may be interesting:

This week (yesterday, the day before) a new WikiProject and Portal have been created in the English language Wikipedia. You can find them at the entries: Wikipedia:Wikiproject Basque[9] and Portal:Basque[10]. The objectives are naturally to improve the quality of articles on Basque people, Basque Country, Basque language, culture and history and to serve as refernce for editors with interest in this area.

Regards, Sugaar.

Thanks for the suggestion. But this I will not use it. I do not find it relevant for the global Wikimedia community. --Walter 07:58, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Walter,

I heard about your Wikizine from the embassy. I'm very impressed with the concept and would love to lend a hand, if you could use the help. In particular, I could help with proofreading the English articles. Let me know if you're interested. I'm en:User:Lantoka over on the English Wikipedia.

Keep up the good work! —Lantoka ( talk | contrib) 00:16, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the offer. I have received now suddenly feedback from several people to help, especial for proofreading. If that is what you want to do I am very happy to add you but I am not sure of you will have a lot of work. But I think it will be useful because not everybody who is volunteering will have time or see everything that is not correct. Please send an email to walter AT wikizine DOT org to proceed. Greetings, --Walter 00:09, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, sounds good. Hope I can help. Be on the lookout for that e-mail. ;) —Lantoka ( talk | contrib) 00:17, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Danny's contest #3 over[edit]

Sorry, I do not get it. What do you mean, why are you writing that? Greetings, --Walter 23:44, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, i should have given more context. Danny's contest, w:WP:DC is a contest that is in it's third run, which is a competition to have the 'most improved article'. In general, it is to inspire some good improvements to neglected important articles; in the beginning it made the biggest splash, but is still followed by wikipedians today. The winner gets $100 in Amazon gift certificates. Anyways, the 3rd bout just finished, and the link above is to it's ranking results. JoeSmack 06:08, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
oh, and i guess it is still a bit controversial. i mean, it is a contest to offer someone money to improve wikipedia in essence, which is kinda against wikipedia principles. JoeSmack 06:11, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Plz restore me as Sysop at sd.wikinews.org[edit]

you removed me from sd.wikinews.org, now who can operate as sysop, because it is newly launched project. there are only 80 members and also most of them are not active. I was working at system messages for the translation in Sindhi language, now I am not able to do work further. Plz grant/restore me as sysop, if not then I think the Sindhi Wikinews project will die (may be I am wrong).

I request you plz consider.. you can see there I worked hard there for posting latest news in Sindhi. I am wating..

When you have temporay sysop-status that means it expires. You knew that. See Requests_for_permissions/Archive_2006/November#Sindhi_Wikinews:_13_Nov
If you wish to stay sysop you need to start the procedure to become a normal sysop on time. I would have give you again one month but I see you have allready sysop status back from Rdsmith4. Now it expires on 2006-12-15. --Walter Do you have news? Report it to Wikizine 23:32, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikizine -- Tool: Category Intersect[edit]

Escaladix, from the French Wikipedia, has developed a tool (in French only for now, and limited to 10 user simultaneously) to intersect categories. He announced it on the wikifr-l mailing list [12] where he gives examples of what that tool is able to do. It's a bit like Duesentrib's tool CatScan, but it allows different queries and is complementary (according to Escaladix, I don't know the details).

There are actually many tools available, but most people are unaware of that (it needs some advertisement). Here is the link to the list of the tools: [13]. Kipmaster 21:57, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikizine - license why not {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} ?[edit]

Hi Walter, thanks for publishing Wikizine and giving us regulary information about the "Wikimedia World". There is one thing I would like to propse: Please do not publish the content only under the GNU Free Documentation License.
Reason: The license GFDL is rather impractical for print media, because it requires the full text of the GFDL to be printed along with the text. Dual licensing with a license which allows the text to be used more easily, like a Creative Commons license (please see licenses at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/) proposal: cc-by-sa-2.5 and the GNU Free Documentation License or direct Public Domain is much better and we reader can use your information on other places. -- gildemax 16:03, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I used to use this wiki here for the construction of wikizine. So it was automaticly under the GNU/FDL. I use now my own wiki for it. Almost all of the text is written by me, some re-written by the correctors. But so long it is under the GNU/FDL I can take fragments of text from one of the wikis and use it in wikizine. I do not do that a lot but it happens.
Is this really a problem? People read wikizine by email, RSS, website, sometimes the copy a fragment and translate it. Wikimedia projects is GNU/FDL, wikizine is for and about the WMF projects. In what situations would the current license be a problem? Greetings, --Walter Do you have news? Report it to Wikizine 01:03, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As per the terms of the GFDL if I use parts of your Wikizine or if I translate it, I have to publish the full text of the GFDL with this work. The GFDL is in my eyes, as I have written, not pratical for print media and imagems. The WIKINEWS e.g. are all under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License. The foundations has learned that now exists other more appropriate licenses. This is only a request to think about a dual licensing. Gretings -- gildemax 10:09, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There's no benefit to using cc-by-sa since it's not compatible with the GFDL. cc-by is a much easier to use license and compatible with all Wikimedia projects (including Wikinews which is not GFDL). Angela 12:19, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That problem I think there is that I want to be able to copy text fragments form one of the wikis, that is mostly meta, EN wikipedia or foundation and use that text like it is. Those wikis are all GNU/FDL. I do not think it is allowed to re-release text under a different licences if it contains text from a GNU/FDL-only license source. --Walter Do you have news? Report it to Wikizine 12:51, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think thats a pretty good argument for keeping gfdl. As for wikinews compatibility, If there is news that affects us, I'm proablly not going to directly copy it out of wikizine, I'm proablly going to condense/re-write it as n:template:wn news is more suited to one liners (although I don't know what other lang do). In the end it doesn't matter very much for a wikizine type of publication, as really its not redistributed and re-edited that much. user:Bawolff (not looged in) 01:08, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have no plans to republish Wikizine, but since you asked for reader feedback:

  • I definitely agree with Gildemax that the GNU FDL is impractical. Indeed, the world would be a better place if Wikimeda had been CC-by-sa from the start! (Unfortunately, there was no such thing in 2001.)
  • Generally, you should be able to dual licence Wikizine. Your contributors would be willing to go along, right? This allows Wikizine to be copied directly into Wikimedia wikis.
  • When you copy from Wikimedia wikis into Wikizine, isn't this usually to talk about that writing? If so, then this falls under fair use and commentary. You could do that even if Wikizine were proprietary!
  • The recent extra edition that repeated a request from Anthere would be an exception. That edition could be released under GNU FDL only, even if the regular editions are dual licensed. (If you had time to ask, I'm sure that Anthere would give permission for CC-by-sa dual licencing, since she wants her message spread widely. But when there is not enough time, exceptions are possible.)

Indische koloniale geschiedenis[edit]

Politie in Nederlands Indie

Wikizine news[edit]

en.wikinew's Latest News RSS has seen dramatic growth recently. At the start of December it had just over 5,000 daily subscribers. That increased to 20,000 by December 12 and reached 36,000 on December 20! It has dropped slightly since then, with now just over 30,000 subscribers reading the latest news from Wikinews every day. Dan100 16:29, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How do you count those subscribers? Is the the number of times the file is requested? When I see my stats of Wikizine then I see for RRS 1873 times accessed in one month and for Atom 8174 times accessed. But taken that is a number of readers is ridiculous. --Walter Do you have news? Report it to Wikizine 17:19, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, should have said, I use Feedburner. To quote their explanation: "FeedBurner’s subscriber count is based on an approximation of how many times your feed has been requested in a 24-hour period. Subscribers is inferred from an analysis of the many different feed readers and aggregators that retrieve this feed daily. Subscribers is not computed for browsers and bots that access your feed.

Subscribers is calculated by matching IP address and feed reader combinations, and then using our detailed understanding of the multitude of readers and aggregators and bots on the market to make additional inferences."

When I visited the wiki the counter was well below 50,000. I agree that is must be that it was the cache and not deletion of articles. It have been that. But I wrongly assumed it was that. I have added a correction to the online version and will put a correction in the next edition. The end result was the same. A visitor would have seen a lower counter the announced. The advice is to flush the cache when your wiki hits a mile stone.

Hungarian Wikipedia hitting 50 000[edit]

On February the 7th the Hungarian language Wikipedia hit the 50 000 mark. To celebrate the event, the logo (hu:Image:Wiki.png) was changed to a celebratory one, featuring the Hungarian Tricolor (the logo was a winner of a vote [15][16] (#3), where the three runner ups had a similar design (1 through 1bb), and together had more votes than the winner, but lost due to the [[en:Spoiler effect). There was a bit of controversy over deciding which was the 50 000th article, as there were three candidates, all being created or moved into article namespace in a 1 minute period, later one of the 3 articles was deleted, and thus made it quite impossible to determine which was the "first" 50 000th article, and which two are "celebratory articles for achieving 50 000" (at last count the deleted article is considered the 50 000th, but there are pages on Wikipedia which mention one of the other two...).

On this occasion a press release was issued, generating mild publicity[17] for Wikipedia, on pages with comment turned on, the feedback was all positive.

I wrote this to you, so the fact that we reached 50 000 on Huwiki would be mentioned, and the rest to make the event less "boring". Please don't mention my name in Wikizine, but please do contact me if you have any questions to ask. Best regards, and keep up the good work, --Dami 15:50, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

wikEd, an in-browser MediaWiki editor[edit]

Hi Walter,

wikEd is a full-featured in-browser text editor that adds enhanced text processing functions to MediaWiki edit pages. It is a JavaScript monobook.js program. Features include:

  • Regular expression search and replace
  • Wikicode syntax highlighting
  • Fullscreen editing mode
  • Server-independent local Show preview and Show changes
  • Pasting formatted text, e.g. from MS-Word (including tables)
  • Conversion of formatted text to wikicode
  • Single-click fixing of common mistakes (including Unicode fixing)
  • History for summary, search, and replace fields
  • Translations into several different languages

Maybe you could add this to the next Wikizine release. Currently, wikEd works only for Firefox and other Mozilla browsers and I am also desperately looking for people who can help to make the script work under Internet Explorer 7 and Opera 9.

The WikiProject on Vandalism studies recently finished its first study and has published its conclusions (a full and detailed copy can be found here).

The first study analyzed a randomly sampled pool of 100 random articles. Within these 100 articles there were a total of 668 edits during the months of November 2004, 2005, and 2006. Of those 668 edits, 31 (or 4.64%) were a vandalism of some type. The study's salient findings suggest that in a given month approximately 5% of edits are vandalism and 97% of that vandalism is done by anonymous editors. Obvious vandalism is the vast majority of vandalism used. From the data gathered within this study it is also found that roughly 25% of vandalism reverting is done by anonymous editors and roughly 75% is done by wikipedians with user accounts. The mean average time vandalism reverting is 758.35 minutes (12.63 hours), a figure that may be skewed by outliers. The median time vandalism reverting is 14 minutes.

Did you know - Wikispecies[edit]

Just an FYI regarding the 2007 Week: 21 Number: 71 Wikizine issue's "Did You Know" section: Wikispecies, just this weekend, surpassed 100,000 articles (wikispecies:Special:Statistics), well beyond the "over 60,000 listings" stated[20] --Georgeryp 05:48, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

One other thing - at http://en.wikizine.org/ on the left hand column, under "The Wikimedia family", the URL for Wikispecies is incorrect (or at least leads to a domain parking page). The URL should be http://species.wikimedia.org/ The Wikimedia Foundation apparently owns the other, simpler URL, but the bug (mediazilla:7495) to get it to redirect to Wikispecies's active site has yet to be resolved. --Georgeryp 21:35, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It.wiki meet SGI[edit]

On Friday May 18, some members of it.wiki met Franco Salvatori, president of Società Geografica Italiana. SGI is one of the 100 Italian eccellencies[21], and one of the most important and respected geographical institutes of the world.

SGI recently celebrated its 140 years of activity. Founded in 1867, the Society owns thousands of precious historic volumes, maps and a huge archive of photos related to colonialism and the XX century's explorations: those materials are stored in Rome, in the XVI century house of Villa Celimontana.

Wikimedia Italia is working on an agreement to obtain part of the image archive of SGI, featuring historic photos of the short colonial experience of the Italian Empire and lot of other documents.

The meeting resulted in an exclusive interview for it.wikinews, stating:

Encyclopedias are now suffering obsolescence, evolving from traditional publishing to a new form - I don't know what this form is [...] but we sure have a new horizon in front of us, related to the very bases of encyclopedicism, and you are the reality that matters now from this point of view. [...] Encyclopedia is not dead: its spirit is not dead, the Enlightenment spirit is not dead.

We would like to thank it:utente:Gianfranco, it:utente:LP and WMI president it:utente:Frieda for the great work done.

Your reporter from it.wikipedia[edit]

Sir, I have been assigned to your unit as correspondent from it.wikipedia. My duty will be to report all news from the italian front. (ok... to be true i just thought "let's help the good guy") Here is a couple of good news for you, after the SGI one just above:

On May 28, Wikipedia was granted one of the nine Special Prizes of the Grand Prix di Pubblicità Italia (Advertising Grand Prix of Italy), for succeeding in exploiting the Internet potential at its best, directly involving users for a widespread growth of culture.
Wikimedia Italia board member and WMI webmaster Ivan Vighetto attended the gala, and withdrew the prize. The event had great resonance on italian media.
Other than Wikipedia, big names of italian business world were awarded a prize. Between them: Mondadori Group, FIAT, SKY Italia and Ferruccio De Bortoli, editor of Il Sole 24 Ore.
This is a hard-earned success, that follows the two prestigious WWW Awards gained on december 14 2005 for being the new reference mark in online knowledge management and for being a constantly evolving information source, overtaking the immobility of traditional encyclopedias.

Kieskompas[edit]

Dag Walter,

--Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 11:09, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

--Walter Do you have news? We concluded an adminship election at tr.wiki: [23]. Free Media Seminar[edit]

Fruggo 16:32, 30 September 2007 (UTC))[reply]

On 20 September, the Dutch chapter held a seminar about free media (vrije media). Goal of the workshop was to inform organisations about the possibilities of placing their media-collections under a free license. Wikimedia Nederland organised the seminar in cooperation with Creative Commons, and was supported by Kennisnet Ict op school. The organisations that were invited are mostly organisations that are (partly) financed by the Dutch national government (university musea, regional archives, etc). Although the attendence was not very big, the seminar was a succes, because of the enthousiasm of the attending organisations. The following months, Wikimedia Nederland will further advise those (and other) organisations about using free licenses.

It.wiki and italian government[edit]

hi Walter, a special report from it.wiki for Wikizine. We are proud of these successes, really outstanding for an association with only 100 members. Usually, politics in Italy is quite far from people requests... (p.s. of course I am willing to help with wikizine, just let me know what I can do)--Jollyroger 08:19, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Recently, Wikimedia Italia had some interesting involvements with italian government institutions.

  • it:Utente:Frieda (WMF board member, former WMI president and wikimedia evangelist) was invited by the Ministero della Pubblica Istruzione, to help starting a project to improve the diffusion of Wikimedia projects in italian schools and to involve more teacher and students to edit and to produce free knowledge.
  • After discussion involving some wikipedians, the Italian parliamentarian Franco Grillini, member of the Camera dei Deputati, proposed to introduce freedom of panorama in the italian copyright law.
  • it:Utente:Senpai had contacts with the head of Soprintendenza dei beni culturali of Firenze (the agency legally owning the rights of reproduction of paintings and arts in the Florence museums) that resulted in a chance of being authorized to use art related images on WM projects. Not much time ago, the Soprintendenza asked firmly to remove all the images taken in those museums (this apply only to photos made by italians and subject to italian law).
  • After a long debate that involved WMI, a group of parliamentarians proposed a law amendment to allow fair use in Italy, "for encyclopedic use". Proposal is still being evaluated, but had positive opinions from the Commissione Cultura and other institutions.

Extensions[edit]

Walter, you don't think extensions can be part of the Wikizine? Extensions on one hand are not Wikimedia (therefor: no), as most of them are not considered for the core of MediaWiki, but on the other hand: there is no report at all on extensions, and some of them are or might be useful if only for a few projects. For instance the Quiz extension is only used on Wikiversity. To retrieve this information has cost me about one hour, a shame it was lost. Londenp 12:30, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Walter, we celebrated the 1000th featured picture on Commons, not the 10,000. -- Bryan (talk|commons) 22:44, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Walter, could you please be a bit more cautious when editing widely-used interface pages? You accidentally added a <pre> tag when you created this page, and it subsequently broke the message on many wikis defaulting to the nl template. AmiDaniel 10:04, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

? That was a non-existing page I created. The idea was to make a translation of the new banner now live on EN Wikipedia as Brion suggested. But I can not find the strings in it that need to be translated. So far I know that page MediaWiki:Centralnotice-template/nl is not used. --Walter 10:23, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
When a page for the particular language does not yet exist, all wikis of that language default to the template MediaWiki:Centralnotice-template. When you create one, like MediaWiki:Centralnotice-template/nl, all Dutch-language wikis then use that template instead. The messages that needed translation were pages like MediaWiki:Centralnotice-counter/nl, etc. (I believe they've all been translated now). Anyway, I'm sorry for the confusion, but thank you for your help. AmiDaniel 02:06, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

donatieoproep/NL/van de voorzitter[edit]

Hej Walter. ComCom and Wikinews[edit]

Hi Walter, Cary has just asked if I was interested in joining ComCom, and has put my "yes" to the rest of the committee. In looking through the members I picked you out as a name I recognised as a fellow Belgian resident. What I'm interested in is getting the generally newsworthy stuff out of your Wikizine and onto Wikinews. That's things like projects reaching article count milestones and such, perhaps having a "Wikinews on Wikis, what's happening locally" article every month or so covering the same as you do, but for the general public - not just wiki editors who subscribe.

Thoughts? --Brian McNeil / talk 19:23, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Brain, If you can use Wikizine for something then that would be great. If you are interested in project milestones then the page you have to watch is Wikimedia News. I personally do not like project milestones and only report a very limited of those.
If I can help or you see a way to work together I am interested. Greetings, --Walter 12:13, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"for the commitment in favour of the diffusion of the universal knowledge, in a free, collaborative and constructive way, in the real spirit of the original ideals of the Net."

The prize has been consigned by the minister of the Communications (on. Paolo Gentiloni), president of the jury, in Rome on last November 5th.

Actually, the French Wiktionnaire has done this before, both times by tremendous bot-operator effort. Stats in latest wikizine[edit]

Hi, I just wanted to point out that, contrary to what was written in Wikizine nr. 85, there have been at least one earlier occasion where a non-English project passed the corresponding English in size. The occasion I'm thinking of was also due to the French Wiktionary passing the English. This was the case, according to Erik Zachte's statistics [24], between January 2006 and August 2006. (see also [25]).

Wikizine: A nice one maybe for the press section[edit]

In a test initiated by the german weekly newsmag "Stern", the german language version of Wikipedia was compared to the publisher Brockhaus' new online version of its 15-volume encyclopedia classic, which is paid subscription only. Experts at a cologne research institution judged 50 random articles from all fields for correctness, completeness, comprehensibility and up-to-dateness (Brockhaus claims to have its online encyclopedia updated all the time). On a scale from 1 (good) to 6 (bad), Wikipedia received an overall of 1.7, while Brockhaus only was given an average of 2.7. In 43 cases the Wikipedia article was declared winner over its Brockhaus equivalent. Brockhaus was criticised for not having entered the information of Luciano Pavarotti's death or Doris Lessing's Nobel Prize in literature even by December 2nd, on the other hand Wikipedia was said to be hard to understand for non-experts and too discursive at times (But we all knew that already, didn't we?). Gadgets[edit]

I didn't think it was so important when i noticed, but since several people have asked me about it, i thought I tell you: the first place where the Gadgets extension went live (Nov. 14.) was the German Wikipedia. Only after it was evaluated there, and a few bugs fixed, was it enabled on frwiki and commons, and later enwiki. I guess people at dewiki are proud of their guneap pig status and like to see it mentioned :)

The Wiktionary preferences allow anonymous IPs to use the various Wiktionary-specific preferences (such as navigation popups, chat.wikizine.org links, etc.) Since the Wiktionary-specific preferences are browser based, they can be different for each different browser you use and don't require registering an account. Special customizations for Wiktionary format differences are built-in there, as well. (Just using the Wikipedia navigation popups doesn't work quite as well.) --Connel MacKenzie 17:42, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Report: Indonesian Wikipedia seminar[edit]

On 20-21 November 2007, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Republic of Indonesia, invited Indonesian Wikipedians to give two-days seminar about "Writing in the Internet" taking a place at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC). These seminars were in an agenda of the government's "Indonesian Information and Communication Technology Awards (INAICTA) 2007". Indonesian Vice President, Mr Jusuf Kalla, with the Minister, Mr Mohammad Nuh, attended the opening ceremonials.

Indonesian Wikipedia users Meursault2004, IvanLanin, Rex, and Serenity were sent to lead the seminars. In two days, over 80 people registered for the seminar, and most of them were new to edit Wikipedia. Since Indonesian Wikipedia has only about 30-40 active contributors, the number 80 newly interested users is a surprising point.

Hi Walter, it would be much appreciated if you could report about the Commons Picture of the Year competition in the next Wikizine. The images are 514 images that were made Featured Picture during 2007. Any Wikimedian with > 200 edits in a single project is eligible to vote. There are two rounds. Round 1 is from 10-17 January and voting is "approval": you can vote for as few or as many as you like. (The images are arranged in categories for viewing, but the categories are not used in calculating votes.) The top 28 images by number of votes will go through to the final. The final runs from 20-24 January and voting for that is single vote. Voting is conducted on custom software created by User:Bryan and runs on the toolserver. People can request voting tokens at Commons:Picture of the Year/2007/Voting (you need email enabled, then you get an email which has the voting link). We also have complete translations and committee members for 12 languages besides English. :) thanks, pfctdayelise 05:06, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And if possible, is there a chance to get some materials in advance in order to prepare the Polish edition as soon as possible? Regards, Wojciech Pędzich Talk 23:03, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, in principle I would welcome very much a polish version of Wikizine. But I would like you to think about this good. There is also Wikizine en Español, Wikizine auf Deutsch and Wikizine bahasa Indonesia. All those editions have a very difficult history. People volunteers to do it, and then after a couple editions at best the are gone. And then I need to send out several emails begging people to help out. Something then someone new start again to do it and then the are gone again. All those editions have a history of people try to do it but the do not keep doing it. The result is that only an irregular number editions get translated.
I do not like to have yet an other version of Wikizine where I have only problems with.
So I ask you; are you committed to really to do this? Now, next week, next month, next year? If so then I would welcome PL Wikizine to the club. But I am not looking to start yet an other disappointment. To proceed please send me an email. --Walter 16:55, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I know that a start-up team might be difficult to work with. I asked this question rather in a prospective manner and I'm glad with your willingness for us to join the club.
I would like to see how the team works out and whether they (or we - I also translate) are capable of producing an issue a week. Then, allow me the liberty of getting back to you with a more specified cooperation question. Regards, Wojciech Pędzich Talk 20:48, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikizine[edit]

Hi Walter: I get Wikizine by email, and really think you do a good service for the community. I noticed that your English translation today had some unusual sentence structure and grammar, particularly on the interview. I'm sure that's because of the Babel translation. While I can't offer to translate for you, I can offer to edit for clarity on the English version if that's something you think would be helpful. Just let me know if you'd like that at some point. Thanks for your service to the community. Philippe 20:51, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Philippe, thanks for the feedback. If you like to help with Wikizine please subscribe to this list for the editors/staff/people who like to help out. Requests for help are posted there. Greetings, --Walter 21:38, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Walter,

I'm not sure if this is an appropriate announcement for Wikizine, but I'll suggest it anyway. There is a proposal to reform the "In The News" section on the w:en:main page. Whereas all of the other sections, like Featured Articles, get updated every day, ITN gets two or three new news items a week. For example, the same picture of w:en:Fernando Lugo has been on ITN since April 20, almost two weeks. In addition, deaths like w:en:Arthur C. Clarke don't make it to the main page, nor items of "local" interest like the London mayoral election. I think a lot of editors would support something more open and dynamic. If you would like to help in this reform proposal, please see w:en:Wikipedia:In The News 2.0. Thanks. 66.140.45.123 07:53, 4 May 2008 (UTC) (Lovelac7)[reply]

1. Subscription, 2. Wikizine titleline[edit]

Hi Walter,

  • I have recently asked you to stop delivering Wikizine to me as I had no time to read it. Now I'd like to ask you to put me back onto the list of readership.
  • I hope you don't find this offensive: I would like to ask you if it was possible to give the titleline a bit more of a professional look, (any Wiki print would be better) which would give it better legibility, as the current one is difficult to read.

Hi, I am not sure what you mean. I have not received or processed any manual request for unsubscribtion from EN Wikizine. Normally you do that yourself. If you wish to subscribe to wikizine go to http://www.wikizine.org and do so.
Regarding your titleline comment; I do not understand what you mean.

Walter,

--Walter 07:07, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

usurp in tr tr.wikipedia.org[edit]

I want to usurp tr:user:orion(a few contribution)for SUL.I'm a active editor of zh:user:orion,Can you rename the account in tr.wiki? Thank You.

You need to request that not here but on the steward request page for that. Steward requests/SUL requests --Walter 11:24, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
