Training on using the Wiki Applications

I've just re-donated to support Wikipedia for another year. But, I think I only scratch the surface of using it and the other related Wiki offerings. How can I get training (e.g. videos) on how to use all of the offerings? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.132.217.186 (talk) 14:38, 22 September 2022

Wikimania 2023 Welcoming Program Submissions

Do you want to host an in-person or virtual session at Wikimania 2023? Maybe a hands-on workshop, a lively discussion, a fun performance, a catchy poster, or a memorable lightning talk? Submissions are open until March 28. The event will have dedicated hybrid blocks, so virtual submissions and pre-recorded content are also welcome. If you have any questions, please join us at an upcoming conversation on March 12 or 19, or reach out by email at wikimania@wikimedia.org or on Telegram. More information on-wiki.

Wikipedia TV

Hi! I was wondering if we could maybe in the future have a television channel? The thing is even nowadays not everyone in the world has access to a computer but mostly everyone in urban areas at least has access to television sets, and so that would be a great idea as far as educating the world, which is what the wikipedia project basically is about. What do you think? Thanks and God bless! Antonio Now I'm Jeanette Martin (yo!) 14:41, March 28, 2023 (UTC)

Help about a RFC

Hello! Phab:T109909 has been on a dormant status for a while because it expects a community decision. Put in very simple words, if you are a new user and your IP accidentally happens to be part of a range block and you have forgotten your password you might as well say goodbye to your account because with the current status, the recovery way is potentially non-existent for new users because of its complications.

Phab:T109909 tries to solve that so I'd like to help make it move forward by making a RFC. Before going that way though, I thought we could brainstorm the said RFC here together so we'd have a product that is more likely to be acceptable. All thoughts and opinions are appreciated. - Klein Muçi (talk) 08:43, 6 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Certainly! RFC stands for "Request for Comments." It is a publication series used by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and other organizations to document standards, protocols, procedures, and related topics in the field of computer networking and the Internet.
The RFC process is an open and collaborative way to develop and refine Internet standards. It allows individuals, experts, and organizations to contribute to the development and review of proposed standards, protocols, and other technical documents. RFCs are widely followed and respected in the networking and Internet community. Koledaf2 (talk) 09:51, 21 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia with CC-BY-SA 4.0 now

Now, the Wikipedia content is under license CC-BY-SA 4.0 (official news). Dušan Kreheľ (talk) 00:21, 9 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads up. To whom it may concern, the Content translation extension still has the 3.0 notice, the message is "MediaWiki:Cx-license-agreement" on TranslateWiki. kyykaarme (talk) 19:48, 11 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question about mediation and/or complaints

Not asking for myself, but I’m wondering if anyone knows there’s any way we can complain about unfair admin actions on a different wiki (random bans) or about unfair copyright takedowns (actual own work on Commons taken down without any warnings). Thanks. Al12si (talk) 17:05, 19 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Al12si:
1. Requests for comment or reporting to Trust and Safety.
2. c:Commons:Undeletion_requests first. If they still continue to delete wrong files, then you may report on c:COM:ANU. Thanks. SCP-2000 04:06, 2 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Announcing the new Elections Committee members

You can find this message translated into additional languages on Meta-wiki.

Hello there,

We are glad to announce the new members and advisors of the Elections Committee. The Elections Committee assists with the design and implementation of the process to select Community- and Affiliate-Selected trustees for the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees. After an open nomination process, the strongest candidates spoke with the Board and four candidates were asked to join the Elections Committee. Four other candidates were asked to participate as advisors.

Thank you to all the community members who submitted their names for consideration. We look forward to working with the Elections Committee in the near future.

On behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees,

RamzyM (WMF) 17:59, 28 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

API deprecation

I'm curious as to why WIKI has messed with their API thereby breaking the 'Redactle-Unlimited' game for millions of people around the world? I'm not sure if this is the place for this but...? Beccib23 (talk) 01:13, 7 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Beccib23 It looks like this has been fixed by the creator. —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 02:52, 7 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
As a semantic thing, "wiki" is just a collection of documents that are editable. I only mention this because if you confuse "wiki" with Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation, you'll eventually get some answers that are confusing or that don't address your questions. —Justin (koavf)TCM 03:51, 7 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
