This page enables stewards to handle permissions requests, including the giving and taking of administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights, for all Wikimedia wikis which do not have a local permissions procedure. If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (see the index of request pages). Requests for bot status, URL blacklisting and whitelisting, and CheckUser queries belong elsewhere.

Interface-translations are done at Betawiki.

For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel (see a web-based IRC client). In emergencies only, type !steward in the channel to inform stewards that you need help.

Please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Confirmation of identity

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to confirm their identity. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also submit the relevant identification to the Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until receipt has been formally confirmed by the office.

Instructions for how you can confirm your identity can be found at: Steward handbook/email templates.

For stewards: Identification noticeboard.

Requests

Administrator access

See administrator for information about the position. Requests for temporary permissions and removal of access belong in other sections.

Snakesteuben@fy and Sonne@fy Wiktionary

We request sysop access.

Why an appointment is needed: Currently our project has no real admin. (The only admin is DerHexer, one of you guys, who is obviously very busy, so has not been particularly active on our project. I believe this has been the case for about a year now. Our user interface is shabby, and Sonne has theorised that the difficulty of making entries may be one reason other users (we have 104 registered) are, or have become, reluctant to contribute. I would like to attend to updating/creating our common.css and .js, as well as the editing tools and buttons available, as soon as possible.

Also routine tasks have gone unattended for some time. E.g., needless to say, candidates for speedy deletion--aren't.

Community Approval: I have checked with sysop DerHexer, who suggested making this request.

There was no substantive response to the entry linked above. The entry was posted only one week ago. However, Sonne and I are the only two users who have created or edited pages since the third of this month (during the entire past month, one registered user made three edits, and contacts of mine, unregistered on our project, left me messages in a couple places.) So I think it's safe to say we have a consensus. ;-) Additionally, in the near future, I may be taking on some rather complex work that would limit time I can devote to the project. So time may be somewhat more of the essence than in the normal case.

Qualifications: Sonne and I are making this request jointly. Neither of us is comfortable taking on the job alone. Sonne is a native speaker of the project's language, while I have been self-teaching for a month now. On the other side, I have a handle on the tech. I'm currently running a bot, and have become familiar with complex templates and parser functions. I have some knowledge of css and js, and have made good contacts on the English Wikt who have pointed me to their code and explained some of the workings to me.

Sonne and I would both prefer to have an admin who has already served on another project. A diligent effort to find one has been made. I put messages on the discussion pages of prior admins I could locate, both on the wikt project and the sister wp project. Then the general appeal linked above was posted. Another user (one of you guys, perhaps?) posted that he had made an appeal at the village pump on our sister wikipedia site.

Sonne is not registered here, so is not seconding this request on this page. We did not think that would be necessary. Please see the bottom of my local talk page for evidence of our agreement.

Finally, if, for any reason, permanent appointment is deemed inappropriate, please consider this a request in the alternative for other appropriate relief, including but not limited to temporary appointment, or any other remedy as you may see fit.

Thank you. Snakesteuben 10:51, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that translation of the user interface should *not* be done in the wiki itself, but on Beta-Wiki. Create an account there and ask some bureaucrat there for translator status. These translations are then used in all Wikimedia wikis. --Thogo (talk) 10:55, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wow. That was fast. You actually read my user page! Understood, good to know, and will do. So, if the wp people had done it that way, the stuff I was going to copy from them would have magically appeared for us, too? Snakesteuben 11:00, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If the WP people had done it on Beta Wiki, you would be able to use these translations on all Wikimedia Wikis, by setting your preference to Frisian. But anyway, I guess the wiki is yet too small to get permanent sysops, so I granted you both temp sysopship for 3 months for any kind of .js and .css maintenance and deleting/blocking and all this kind of stuff. Expiring 29 Jul 2008 Just come here some days before that and drop a note that you want to have it extended (if you want that). So this is Done. :) --Thogo (talk) 11:08, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jutiphan@th and Teetaweepo@th wikisource

I would like to ask you to grant sysop access to Jutiphan and Teetaweepo. We are growing, on the top 10 list. At the moment, I'm the only sysop there.

A local vote is done here s:th:วิกิซอร์ซ:เซ็นเตอร์พ้อยท์

Thanks --Toutou 04:51, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done, please remember to translate the interface at betawiki: only, good luck to Your project :) Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 08:02, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucrat access

See bureaucrat for information about the position.
I request bureaucrat access on diq.wikipedia:
Zazaki Wikipedia is growing quickly, so we need a bureaucrat. --Belekvor 21:37, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
On hold, well, you have just three active sysops (you're even not a sysop) and six bots. Do you really need a 'crat? You can easily ask a steward here. Regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 21:42, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, exactly..We need a 'crat. This will make our job easier. Thanks..--Belekvor 23:52, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CheckUser access

To request CheckUser information, see Request for CheckUser information. This is the place to request CheckUser access. Note that temporary CheckUser access is not permitted.

Stewards: When someone asks for CheckUser status, please check the current policy regarding bestowal of status before giving the status. Do not grant CheckUser access unless the user is identified to the foundation, which will be announced here. Breaching these rules may be cause for removing your steward access. When you give someone CheckUser, please list them on CheckUser, ask them to subscribe to checkuser-l, email checkuser-l-owner@wikipedia.org so that the listadmins know the person is allowed on the mailing list (the list may contain confidential information), and make sure they contact an op for access to #wikimedia-checkuser.

Oversight access

Do not initiate an oversight request here. The Arbitration Committee will make the request once there is consensus on the local wiki (this process is currently for en-Wikipedia only).

Stewards: Do not grant Oversight access unless the user is identified to the foundation, which will be announced here. When you give someone oversight access, list them on Hiding revisions.

Removal of access

If you want to request that your own status be removed, please don't forget to place a note on your local user talk page (preferably with an English translation). This is required to prove your identity. And then add the request here. You should add the difflink of your local confirmation edit to the request.

To request the removal of another user's status, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted person from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a very brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion.

Copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the local request, and link to your local user page. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request.

==== Username@language-code project-name ====
I request removal of access.
*'''Language Code:''' xx
*'''Local Confirmation/Request Link:''' <!--Difflink of the local confirmation edit (for own requests), or link to the community decision-->
*'''Local User Page:''' [[xx:User:Example]]

Thank you. ~~~~

Please summarize your request in the "summary".

I request removal of access.

Three bureaucrats @ is-Wikipedia

The Icelandic Wikipedia has recently enacted an inactivity policy for its admins/bureaucrats. The policy is to notify admins on their talk pages if they have not made an edit for over a year and give them two weeks to respond. If they don't respond or if they don't express interest in keeping the admin privileges, they will lose them. Three users were given such notices in early march but none of them have made an edit since then. Please remove their admin/bureaucrats privileges.

Temporary permissions for emergency or technical purposes

If you are requesting administrator status to make a translation of the wiki interface, see also the BetaWiki project, which seeks to make a neutral MediaWiki translation that will then be default for all wikis. That is more useful than only making a local translation. You can ask questions in the IRC channel or in the mailing list. See also MediaWiki localisation. If you are requesting adminship to handle one-time vandalism incidents or clearing a deletion backlog, please see Vandalism reports and Multilingual speedy deletions.

Stewards: Currently active temporary permissions are listed at /Approved temporary. When granting a request, please copy the request to the appropriate section there, and clearly state the date of removal. Requests only need remain listed below for a few days, and may afterward be removed as long as they have been copied to the subpage.

Copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the list of sysops and bureaucrats, local request link, link to your local user page, and the preferred duration with a reason. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request.
