This page enables stewards to handle permissions requests, including the giving and taking of administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights, for all Wikimedia wikis which do not have a local permissions procedure. If your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (see the index of request pages). Requests for bot status, URL blacklisting and whitelisting, and CheckUser queries belong elsewhere.

Please note that interface-translations are done at Betawiki.

For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel (see a web-based IRC client). In emergencies only, type !steward in the channel to inform stewards that you need help.

Please only make requests here after gaining the approval of your local community.

When requesting permissions, copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Please fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the local request, and link to your local user page. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request. Permissions requiring confirmation of identity (notably CheckUser and Oversight) are placed on hold until formally confirmed by the office.

Please summarize your request in the "summary".

Administrator access

Ido Wikipedia

I request sysop access.

Thank you. Joao Xavier 20:33, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not done, please let the community vote first and come back then, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 20:40, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please wait a week for your community to approve you.--Shizhao 06:02, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A week has passed. I only see one "favoroza" vote. That means that there is no consensus for this user and that this is indeed Not done. --FiLiP ¤ 07:36, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucrat access

See bureaucrat for information about the position.

Lord_Anubis@ar wiktionary

I request bureaucrat access. This is because our current (and only) bureaucrat (Chaos) has not contributed since Sep 2007, and although i know that he is available on WikiSource and Wikipedia, his unavailability on Wiktionary caused one of our users wikt:ar:User:OsamaK to come to meta to obtain a bot flag due to lack of bureaucrats.

I am already a sysop on there (and on Wikipedia-ar), and at the moment, from where i am standing, the community is semi-dead, and i am trying to do a lot of automated work with bots single-handedly.

Having a second bureaucrat would facilitate the process of granting bot-flags to more interwiki bot users (Something we need to do), for the time being.

Thank you. --Lord Anubis 15:09, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Without community there is no need for a bureaucrat. You can request bot flags and username changes here on Meta. And without a community decision we can't give you bureaucrat rights. --Thogo (talk) 15:11, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I ll put a request in, and hopefully this time next year i will have enough votes from the current community. :). --Lord Anubis 15:24, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Right, I put request in here, and looks like there's community support, and 0% opposition. Please reconsider.--Lord Anubis 14:39, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please wait one week for the decision of the community. Thanks, —DerHexer (Talk) 14:41, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problemo. :). --Lord Anubis 14:45, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CheckUser access

To request CheckUser information, see Request for CheckUser information. This is the place to request CheckUser access. Note that temporary CheckUser access is not permitted.

Stewards: When someone asks for CheckUser status, please check the current policy regarding bestowal of status before giving the status. Breaching these rules may be cause for removing your steward access. When you give someone CheckUser, please list them on CheckUser, ask them to subscribe to checkuser-l, email checkuser-l-owner@wikipedia.org so that the listadmins know the person is allowed on the mailing list (the list may contain confidential information), and make sure they contact an op for access to #wikimedia-checkuser.

Oversight access

Do not initiate an oversight request here. The Arbitration Committee will make the request once there is consensus on the local wiki (this process is currently for en-Wikipedia only).

Stewards: When you give someone oversight access, list them on Hiding revisions.

Removal of access

If you want to request that your own status be removed, please don't forget to place a note on your local user talk page (preferably with an English translation). This is required to prove your identity. And then add the request here. You should add the difflink of your local confirmation edit to the request.

To request the removal of another user's status, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted person from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a very brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion.

Copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the local request, and link to your local user page. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request.

Temporary permissions for emergency or technical purposes

If you are requesting administrator status to make a translation of the wiki interface, see also the BetaWiki project, which seeks to make a neutral MediaWiki translation that will then be default for all wikis. That is more useful than only making a local translation. You can ask questions in the IRC channel or in the mailing list. See also MediaWiki localisation.

Stewards: Currently active temporary permissions are listed at /Approved temporary. When granting a request, please copy the request to the appropriate section there, and clearly state the date of removal. Requests only need remain listed below for a few days, and may afterward be removed as long as they have been copied to the subpage.

Copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the local request, and link to your local user page. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request.

Malay Wikibooks

I request for temporary sysop access.

Thank you. Putera Luqman Tunku Andre 06:06, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you, please, provide us with a link to the request page on your wiki? A link to your userpage isn't much revealing. There needs to be a community consensus if you wish to obtain administrator status. Thanks --FiLiP ¤ 11:16, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There's not any community. No comunity, no vote. That's why I join wikibooks ms. Putera Luqman Tunku Andre 12:50, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Then maybe you should consider getting temporary status, until the community begins slowly building up. I cannot, in good faith, give you access without any support from fellow wikibookians. Thank you --FiLiP ¤ 12:54, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Its okay. It's okay for me. I request for temporary sysop in Malay Wikibooks for 12 month. We don't have any local sysop. Perharp you help me.Putera Luqman Tunku Andre 13:00, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
DoneDerHexer (Talk) 13:04, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Err, does 1 person counts as a community? I've been ms-wikibooks most frequent and sole contributor for months and I don't know anything about this. How come a new user suddenly gets a sysop status for 1 year? Don't you guys check recent changes first? ...Aurora... 10:53, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, according to Steward_handbook#Temporary_rights it was not totally wrong to promote him. 12 months was too much, that's true, but there was no local sysop, and he wants to help out. That this is not backed by the community was not evident. … I'd recommend him to start a voting on b:ms (I'll leave a message on his user talk page). If he fails I'd remove his rights. Kind regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 16:54, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't contesting the promotion, only the duration. Steward_handbook#Temporary_rights also said "Six months is probably too much". Anyway, we'll see if a voting can be carried out first. ...Aurora... 10:33, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry late reply...too much work...but my heart still in wiki...ops, maybe I'm new user but I have experience in MsWikipedia(only 3 month). The policy to be sysop in Mswikibooks are 3 days after create account/first edit and have 10 and above editLook here. Maybe Aurora more active than me but my vision is To help Malay Wikibooks. Aurora also bureaucrat and sysop in Malay wikipedia and wikitonary(expired). It's okay if Aurora constitute to sysop.

Malay Wiktionary

I request for temporary sysop access.

There no comunity. So no comunity, no vote. Perharp I can help Malay wikitionary too.I request for 12 month only.

Thank you.Putera Luqman Tunku Andre 13:33, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your request has already been processed. Look at the #Temporary permissions for emergency or technical purposes section. --FiLiP ¤ 13:34, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I request for Malay Wikitionary too. I know that i am administrator in Malay Wikibooks.Putera Luqman Tunku Andre 13:40, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it would be a wise idea for you to have temporary sysop status on two wikis. Let's wait a while and see what others think. And, please, don't move this section around. This is a request for temporary status, so it should go here. --FiLiP ¤ 15:31, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not greedy but I want to help Malay wiki.Malay Wikitonary and Malay Wikibooks is unpopular.I'm sorry. Thanks because help me. I hope you can help me another time. I have 1 question, if users from Malay wiki want to change their name, what place can I write their request.Sorry because my English is so bad but i will try.Putera Luqman Tunku Andre 15:40, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please have a look at Requests for username changes. —DerHexer (Talk) 15:42, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Let's not delete failed requests. They do happen. So, this is apparently Not done. Thanks --FiLiP ¤ 22:07, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There're at least 2 active contributors in ms-wiktionary including me. And there are already two sysops there (although 1 is dormant). ...Aurora... 10:53, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, he wasn't promoted on this project. Regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 16:49, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SPQRobin on dsb, crh, stq

I request temporary sysop and import access for the new created sites dsb:, crh: and stq:. I have the same username on every project: dsb:User:SPQRobin, crh:User:SPQRobin and stq:User:SPQRobin. I can't specify a duration, but it should be done within some hours. I will notice it here when I'm done. Thank you, SPQRobin 11:28, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DoneDerHexer (Talk) 11:33, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm ready, and I waited some time to give users the chance to ask for sysop actions or other problems. There seems to be nothing, so you can remove my import and sysop access for SPQRobin@dsbwiki, SPQRobin@crhwiki and SPQRobin@stqwiki. SPQRobin 17:06, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here are a lot of stewards available. … And all of the things you've mentioned are in my opinion not emergency cases. Regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 23:27, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry DerHexer but it is an emergency we have just opened and some things need to be tidied up quickly sorry for insisting but it is important, very important.--Diaza 23:31, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I would like sysop and import access. Thank you.--Diaza 23:52, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What exactly do you want to do? The incubator pages are already imported. --Thogo (talk) 01:15, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done until 01 February 2008. We have discussed this on IRC, and ArielGlenn and he wish to import infrastructure (like help, project, and template pages) from other Greek projects. In addition, I think it's important to have at least one administrator on the project to deal with any abuse or spam, particularly since some malicious editors in the past specifically targeted new wikis with no administrators. Diaza was also an administrator on the test project, so I suspect he may be elected permanently before this term expires. —{admin} Pathoschild 07:31:34, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Assassingr@elwikiversity

I would like to request temporary sysop priviliges for the greek wikiversity project. There are three sysops, but due to the time difference and the fact that some of them are busy sometimes makes things a little difficult. I was also an active contributor on beta before the launch. I mostly need sysop priviliges for moving pages and protection. I will provide any information that I forgot to mention. Thank you. Also, there is a voting on el.wv for permanent sysop status at v:el:Βικιεπιστήμιο:Ψηφοφορία--Assassingr 16:34, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

el.wikibooks.org

I request temporary sysop status on el wikibooks, user name Απεργός, since the previous temp sysop has let his permissions lapse. I need to do some import/merges in order to clean up the history of some pages I translated earlier as an anonymous user (and therefore could not import etc properly). I tried to get an active (registered) contributor over there to volunteer a while back but no dice. ArielGlenn 23:22, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done for one month. —DerHexer (Talk) 23:30, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

el.wikiversity.org

I request temporary sysop status (User: Απεργός) for the purposes of import and history merge of various infrastructure pages which we are missing and we will adapt from existing pages (primarily from el pedia, I expect). (Even basic things like copyright policy are missing.) *sigh* I'll ask to get rid of it as soon as imports are done. This is not meant to conflict with or negate Zadiak's request above. -- ArielGlenn 03:37, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done until 01 February 2008. —{admin} Pathoschild 03:40:18, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Pyt@stqwiki

I request temporary sysop access for an other user.

  • List of local sysops: stq:Special:Listusers/sysop
  • Local user page: stq:User:Pyt
  • Preferred duration and reason: One month or so. It is a new created site, on Incubator he was a test-admin, so I asked him to have admin rights on the new site and he confirmed that. He will be an admin to help get the new project off the ground, and to do some general things.

Thank you, SPQRobin 16:02, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

J.sweeton@wnri.com@en wikipedia

Request for rollbacker status, unable to grant locally due to at sign in username.

Thank you. Random832 15:04, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wait.. can stewards grant rollbacker from Meta? I had the feeling rollback was only added an enwiki. And even if it was implemented here, I have a feeling (just a feeling) stewards wouldn't be able to give it either (bug), Majorly (talk) 15:14, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, they can't. The 'rollback' permission can't be granted from Meta. And, I confirm that it is impossible to grant anything to this user due to reported bug. --Zirland 15:17, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I guess we'll just have to wait for the devs to fix the bug, or the user to get a rename (his userpage does indicate he intended to be renamed eventually). Withdrawn/impossible Random832 15:21, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Same problem for stewards, the '@' character is used to specify the database name. Ask local bureaucrats to retry specifying the user ID (yours is 525077) in Special:Userrights (they need to enter #525077 in the username field). --.anaconda 16:03, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just tried this method and it did not work properly. Nakon 16:48, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I tried this method on meta and also on cs.wb, where I am bct and it seems to work. Nakon, what did not work for you? --Zirland 16:54, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Did You try with an account with an @ in it, he is right, it does not work, Error is: "You do not have permission to edit user rights on other wikis." It seems the only possibility is renaming or maybe the devs can help, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 17:12, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is no '@' in userID. En.wiki bct needs to simply enter #525077 to input field of en:Special:Userrights. That is all. It will result in this page. It worked for me on other projects. --Zirland 17:16, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, no @ in the userid but it changes to the username as soon as You press enter to grant the right, and then gives the error, Zirland, did You try with @'s in accountnames? Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 17:24, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, it changes the name then? I see... So it is impossible situation evidently. Spacebirdy, I tried it with names without @, 'coz I know no other @ username on any project. Best --Zirland 17:29, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For completeness, I'll add that changing the name back to #525077 (using firebug to edit the hidden form field) invalidates the token. so, it's impossible. Random832 18:26, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What about changing the username name temporarily as a workaround? An en:wp 'crat would be able to do that... (this leaves aside why a username with an @ is allowed, I thought they were discouraged on en:wp, but that's not a matter for us here) ++Lar: t/c 18:51, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps it was created before usernames with @ were not allowed.--Shanel 21:07, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe a bureaucrat can change his name, then set the flag and then change his name back... *run* --Thogo (talk) 15:27, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I was suggesting! Sorry if I wasn't clear :) ++Lar: t/c 15:31, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Do not try that, you will not be able to rename the user to an invalid username (with @ in it). One idea: a steward could grant themselves Steward rights on enwiki, then add the rollbacker right to J.sweeton@wnri.com@enwiki, from enwiki and that might work. Also reported as bug 12602 Prodego talk 18:57, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, it doesn't run, just tried--Nick1915 - all you want 19:53, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
@Prodego: This worked fine on is.wikt, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 19:54, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That is interesting, it shouldn't be doing that. I would test it on enwiki before doing it, just in case though. Prodego talk 21:04, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just to remark on this, since I happened to stop by, users with @ signs just should be renamed and left renamed. The @ sign conflicts with the naming conventions that will be used for SUL. If they are not renamed now, they will be sometime before SUL rolls out anyway, so you may as well rename them now (if they have few enough edits). Therefore, I don't anticipate that Userrights will be changed to allow users with '@' in their name to be renamed. With more paid developers apparently being added in the coming year, I'm optimistic that SUL will get implemented before 2009, even though it doesn't have a good track record on that.

It's a bug that Special:Renameuser will rename people to a name that's invalid for creation. I've fixed it in rev:29674, so it's not going to work for much longer. —Simetrical (talk • contribs) 00:07, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Monobi@mediawiki.org (import)

I'm a bureaucrat at mediawiki.org. My user page there confirms that this is in fact my Meta account. mw:User:Monobi would like to help importing MediaWiki-related pages from Meta, but bureaucrats can't currently add or remove the import group (Mediazilla:12605), and I'm reluctant to make him a sysop. I would appreciate it if someone would give him the import group.

Thank you. —Simetrical (talk • contribs) 23:45, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but import access only makes it possible to upload and import xml files. For interwiki import, you'd still need sysop status. If you indeed wanted this kind of import for him, then OK, but sysops don't have access to it. --FiLiP ¤ 23:49, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps you're correct. I'll double-check. If this is the case, I'll ask for a new usergroup to be created (that's addable and removable by bureaucrats). —Simetrical (talk • contribs) 23:53, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Is this supposed to be Monobi? Majorly (talk) 23:54, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, fixed :) Mønobi 23:55, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I confirm it's Monobi. —Simetrical (talk • contribs) 00:08, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So, this is Not done (by stewards, at least) per mw:Special:Listusers/transwiki and bugzilla:12605#c7. --FiLiP ¤ 09:12, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
