== Follow-up of Letter to Ombudsman Commission ==

I sent a letter to the Ombudsman Commission mailing list over two weeks ago. I have not received even the courtesy of an acknowledgement in all that time. To be blunt, this is not acceptable in a body which holds itself out to be an ombudsman.
If the letter was somehow 'lost in the mail' I have posted a copy at [[en:User:Jbhunley/Letter to WMF Ombudsman Committee]]. I look forward to the resolution of the matters raised. Please 'ping' me or contact me on [[en:User talk:Jbhunley]], I am seldom on Meta.
Thank you. Hello

Hi Sam,

Trust you're doing fine. I read about some of the tremendous work you're doing with wikimedia and I'll like to be a part of it. Can you help?

I presently have a strong drive to positively impact this generation through open source knowledge. And I see this as one great channel to that. I just need a guide. Hope you can be of help.

Look forward to your response.

Cheers!

I'm impressed by your dedication

Hi my name is Ransome Telli, I am also a member on here from Abuja Nigeria, and I'm a person with the zeal to write about emotions and feelings, I presently own a blog and I'm planning to launch it (globally) anytime soon, although its still in its early stage. The site address is senayu360blog.wordpress.com under the blog name African and Proud, I too care about expanding the experience of my culture that's why I created my blog, but I keep getting discouraged, are we doing the right thing, I mean everyone is headed towards a new type of culture, the western lifestyle. Look at our dressing, look at our lingua, take a look at the programs we love, are we on the right track? I might be paranoid but I believe the reason is genuine. How do I meet people like you to start with, people who help others get back on their feet? Thanks for having me...

Wikipedia Library User Group is being renamed!

Hello! In the past few months, the Wikipedia Library User Group has been undergoing some major planning and developments. We just finished our very first open call with the user group members, which was a great success (see the meeting minutes). If you joined us during the meeting, we’d like to thank you for your interest. If not, not to worry, we have lots of things planned for the user group in which you can participate.

This message is to inform you that based on the input received from the user group members and the founding members, it was agreed that the Wikipedia Library User Group’s name be reconsidered by a voting process. As a valued member of the user group, we’d like to invite you to vote on the list of potential names. You can vote by following this link. The poll will run for a timeframe of two weeks. Wikimedia diversity - What happened at the conference and how to follow up

Hello Jamie Tubers,
We are messaging you now because you signed up as an ambassador for Wikimedia Diversity Conference 2017. We are sharing this message far and wide, so apologies in advance if you are receiving this message twice.

During the conference, we dedicated a full afternoon to discussing the strategic direction and what it means for the work on diversity in the Wikimedia movement. Compiling the outcomes of those conversations, we summarized the key problems and solutions identified, and we created a summary statement. But the conversation is far from over! We still need to hear from diversity ambassadors: (1) what does working for diversity mean at your local context?; (2) what are the needs that should be addressed; (3) what resources are relevant for these identified needs?

We know that diversity gains meaning in context, and this is why we need to hear every voice. Please take a few minutes to go over to the diversity conversation page and add your comments.

If you’d like to stay in touch, and share your experience working for diversity with others, add your profile on our group here.

Thank you and see you on the wiki,
Sara (talk)

Translation request for New Readers Inspire Campaign-- and thanks!

Hi there! I'm contacting you because you've volunteered your time in the past to help translate Inspire Campaigns, or you've expressed an interest about helping to translate. We have a new campaign starting soon about new readers, as we try to encourage contributors to develop ideas on how to inform and invite people to use Wikipedia, especially in places where folks are not aware of it. There are two pages that will need translation:

There will be one additional page for translation that includes the questions we will be asking idea creators when they submit ideas for the campaign. I will notify you when that prose is ready.

Finally, thank you for your support; it's very important to me that these campaigns are accessible to folks across non-English Wikimedia projects, and I wouldn't be able to do that without your time and effort. In appreciation, I'd like to send you a postcard from Chicago where I reside. If you'd like to receive a postcard from me, please e-mail me with an address I contact you at to my work e-mail, cschilling(_AT_)wikimedia.org. I realize this is private information, so if you would prefer not to receive a postcard, that is understandable. Your work to make our projects accessible to everyone is no less appreciated. Please let me know if you have any questions about the prose regarding translation. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) 20:33, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

New community space for IdeaLab on Connect

Hi folks. If you're receiving this message, you've contributed to IdeaLab or an Inspire Campaign this year. Thanks for participating to develop ideas and review ones from other Wikimedians.

We are preparing some changes to IdeaLab and Inspire Campaigns. One of these changes is a new community space on Connect, where Wikimedians can find each other based on common activities or skills, and ask questions about the space. You are invited to join this community space for IdeaLab, especially if you would ever consider needing to find contributors with certain skills (like design or project management) or would like to offer your skills to others in our movement. To join, please proceed to Connect/IdeaLab and click on the "Add yourself" button on the right. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) 19:53, 21 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Inspire Campaign on Measuring Community Health

Do you have an idea about how to measure the health of your community? Do you want to review ideas that others have submitted? Through August 10th, we are inviting ideas on how to capture the well-being of Wikimedia communities, in terms of matters like conflict resolution, effective content creation, and being able to contribute in a collaborative environment. Ideas can be focused on either quantitative techniques, such as gathering raw data, or qualitative techniques, like surveying contributors. If you are submitting an idea, guidance is available for how to move your idea into implementation, such as through a grant or starting a Phabricator task to engage with developers.

If you're interested, consider joining the Inspire Campaign. I JethroBT (WMF) 17:13, 13 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

AfroCine

Hi again :)

I could use some clarification what articles/people would be included as diaspora. Would African-American cinema apply? Would Israeli cinema by North African immigrants or their children? I need to be able to explain this if I manage to get a competition going on HEWIKI. Also, I see there are already some articles in the list - can we already begin? Or do we have to wait for October? Thanks in advance, TMagen (talk) 11:37, 22 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

 • Hello TMagen! Thank you very much for your question! The only criteria for the contest and the project as a whole is for subjects to have African ancestry or some other attachments to Africa. So, I believe that African Americans and African Israelis fully fall within scope. Also remember, the main aim is to fix content gaps....therefore, there are no strict rules on the scope. Creating any content that is remotely related to African cinema is very welcome for the project! :) :).
The list you see at the end of the contest page is due to some people who created articles too early :). Since that isn't essentially a bad thing, the articles were added anyway :). It'd be nice to wait it out till the start of the contest (but hey, no hard rules against actions that are helpful ;)), the rest of this month can be used to create awareness on HEwiki for instance. Let me know if you need to setup mass messaging or anything. :)
PS: I'd like to send you a mail for some additional information, but it doesn't seem like that is activated on your profile. If you don't mind, please use the Wikimedia mail function to contact me :). Thank you once again!--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:03, 24 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
e-mail sent. Thanks for the answer! Awesome. I'm not getting an overly enthusiastic response yet, but I will definitely participate (and I write A LOT) and at least a couple of my Wiki Women will. Probably only in hewiki, but hey, we have a need to close this gap too. TMagen (talk) 08:08, 24 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
 • Absolutely! We need to have relevant African content in Hebrew too, but we have very few African Hebrew speakers....that's the reason we need the help of awesome Wikimedians like you! :). Thank you for jumping in!--Jamie Tubers (talk) 14:29, 25 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to the Months of African Cinema!

Greetings!

The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which has been dedicated to improving contents that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora.

This is a global online edit-a-thon, which is happening in at least 5 language editions of Wikipedia (en, he, es, it, bn) and Wikidata. Join us in this exciting venture, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope.

On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing Users who are able to achieve the following:

 • Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
 • Country Winners
 • Diversity winner
 • High quality contributors
 • Gender-gap fillers
 • Page improvers
 • Wikidata Translators

For further information about the contest, the recognition categories and how to participate, please visit the contest page here.

If you'd love to organize this contest for your local wiki or organize in-person events centred around this project, or you need further information about the AfroCine Project, please leave a message on the project talkpage. See you around :).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 22:50, 03 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

[Wikipedia & Education User Group] Updates: November 2018

Greetings,

Integrating Wikimedia with education is a powerful strategy for the outreach of Wikimedia projects. Realising this concept, a group of leaders promoted this and formed the Wikipedia Education Collaborative. After some time, this evolved to become a user group, officially recognised by the Affiliations Committee in June 2018. The user group had its first board elections earlier in September. In the process to formalise activities and give a shape the user group for long-term sustainability, we are now revamping our processes. Thanks for supporting us during incubation stages, we are now inviting you to formally join the user group by following the instructions on the members' page. Being a member will allow you to be a part of this wonderful collaboration and also do interesting stuff.

Kind regards

Wikimania Ambassador

Hi!

I noticed that you have signed up as a Wikimedia Diversity Ambassador, after the Diversity Conference held in Stockholm 2017. In August this year, Wikimania will take place in Stockholm, and our goal is to use Ambassadors to reach out to local communities, to spread the news about the conference and the outcomes afterwards. The conference theme (still to be announced) will connect closely to diversity. If you would like to be involved as a Wikimania ambassador, please sign up at the Ambassador page at the Wikimania wiki!

A first thing to do, if you would like to help out, would be to translate the scholarship page at the Wikimania wiki into the language(s) you speak!

AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the Months of African Cinema last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000. About 9 in-person events were also organised for the edit-a-thon in different parts of the world.

The contest is organized by a Wikimedia project called The AfroCine Project, which is dedicated to improving the coverage of the history, works, people, places, and events, that are associated with the cinema, theatre and arts of Africa, African countries, the Caribbean, and the diaspora.

If you would love to join this exciting event, please list your username as a participant on the English Wikipedia contest page. If you would love to lead this contest for your country or community, please list your name in the coordinators' page here. The rapid grants team would be accepting proposals throughout October and November, in case you'd need funds to run local edit-a-thons or some other activities related to this event. Upon listing your name on the coordinators' page, you'd be contacted to talk about the resources you'd need to run the event in your community. You can also contact me directly for any clarifications.

Finally, We also need volunteers to handle some aspects of the AfroCine project. These aspects include:

 1. Community Liaison: This role essentially involves closely engaging with local communities to support their activities within the scope of Afrocine.
 2. Communications: This involves the communications aspects of the project. Sharing relevant information on mailing lists and social media would be the responsibility of this person.
 3. MAC Jury: This role involves joining the jury of Months of African Cinema contest. We need as many people as we can get 🙂.
 4. Tools: Going forward, we would need relevant tools to better track the metrics and also analyse the general impact of these events. We are calling for Wikimedia volunteers who can navigate wikimedia tools that can be useful for the project.

If you would love to help with any of these roles, or some other roles that have not been mentioned, please contact me directly or on: samoye_(_AT_)hotmail.com

If you have further questions, complaints, suggestions, etc., please reach out to me personally or right here or the project talkpages.

Follow-up of Letter to Ombudsman Commission

I sent a letter to the Ombudsman Commission mailing list over two weeks ago. I have not received even the courtesy of an acknowledgement in all that time. To be blunt, this is not acceptable in a body which holds itself out to be an ombudsman.

If the letter was somehow 'lost in the mail' I have posted a copy at en:User:Jbhunley/Letter to WMF Ombudsman Committee. I look forward to the resolution of the matters raised. Please 'ping' me or contact me on en:User talk:Jbhunley, I am seldom on Meta.

Thank you. JbhTalk 23:55, 1 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
