Steward requests/Global permissions

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
(Redirected from SRGREN)
Shortcut:
SRGP
This page hosts requests for global permissions. To make a request, read the relevant policy (global rollback , global sysop , global rename , …) and make a request below. Explain why membership is needed for that group, and detail prior experience or qualifications.

This is not a vote and any active Wikimedia editor may participate in the discussion.

Global rollback and global interface editor requests require no fewer than 5 days of discussion while abuse filter helper and maintainer requests require no fewer than 7 days. Global renamer and global sysop requests require no fewer than 2 weeks of discussion. For requests that are unlikely to pass under any circumstances, they may be closed by a steward without further discussion (after a reasonable amount of input).

After your last request here when you were declined for being blocked on your homewiki, you picked up yet another block on your homewiki. What is going on that keeps getting you blocked? — xaosflux Talk 02:39, 1 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Xaosflux:I was subset blocked for 6 months on my homewiki because I harassed other users. Later, I was blocked for 3 months because I used machine translations. Now, I have no active blocks, so can you graduate my GIPBE right? Thank you. Peterxytalk06:19, 1 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the note, I'm leaving this for another steward to handle. — xaosflux Talk 12:41, 2 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Global CAPTCHA exemption for LightandDark2000

[edit]

I would like to request Global CAPTCHA exemption, given the number of times I've run into issues with CAPTCHA filters and edit filters slowing or even entirely blocking my attempts to reverse vandalism on multiple Wikimedia projects. The edit filter blocks are worse in that regard, but I'm not sure what can be done about that. I think that Global CAPTCHA exemption would make my antivandalism work significantly easier (at least, without the use of Global Rollback), as I currently run into this issue rather often when reverting vandalism on sites like the Italian, French, and Chinese Wikipedias, which prevents Twinkle from working when this happens and forces me to spend significantly more time doing a manual revert. These issues currently make cross-wiki antivandalism work a lot more of a pain than I think it should be on projects where I currently don't have Rollback, especially on foreign language wikis. Obviously, I'm not a spammer, and I'm experienced with writing content and dealing with vandalism, so this shouldn't be an issue. I would appreciate being granted this permission. Thanks. I'm aware this isn't a vote, but Support Support. This global group is intentionally light-weight, and I fail to see the harm that some say giving this out widely would bring. CAPTCHA exemptions even says an acceptable rationale for granting is that it is clear someone isn't a spambot. I think LightandDark2000 meets that. EggRoll97 (talk) 18:58, 1 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Seems that you are mostly having non-CAPTCHA problems? Are you hitting edit filters where their only action is to present a captcha? Can you point to an example? — xaosflux Talk 18:59, 1 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I'm having non-CAPTCHA problems (edit filter disallowing), but those don't present a CAPTCHA - they block the edit entirely. As for the CAPTCHAs, I have to clear those manually on multiple Wikimedia project right now if I want to do anything involving the adding (or re-adding) of links that were deleted by vandals, which is extremely aggravating. I don't have a specific example, but let's say that a vandal deletes a paragraph of information from the article of Luis Arce or the Louvre Museum on French Wikipedia; in order just to reverse the vandalism, I would have to do a manual revert and fill out a CAPTCHA. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 02:45, 2 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't make sense, as you already have skipcaptcha permissions on frwiki. Is that a situation you are actually seeing, or something you are proposing could happen? — xaosflux Talk 13:08, 2 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't aware that was a thing. I've run into the CAPTCHA issue on multiple wikis, including fr.wiki, it.wiki, zh.wiki, and a number of different Wikiquote/Wikiversity sites, so getting a local perm won't be enough to bypass this. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 15:33, 2 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
