Steward requests/Global permissions

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
(Redirected from SRGREN)
Shortcut:
SRGP
This page hosts requests for global permissions. To make a request, read the relevant policy (global rollback , global sysop , global rename , …) and make a request below. Explain why membership is needed for that group, and detail prior experience or qualifications.

This is not a vote and any active Wikimedia editor may participate in the discussion.

Global rollback and global interface editor requests require no fewer than 5 days of discussion while abuse filter helper and maintainer requests require no fewer than 7 days. Global renamer and global sysop requests require no fewer than 2 weeks of discussion. For requests that are unlikely to pass under any circumstances, they may be closed by a steward without further discussion (after a reasonable amount of input).

Requests for global rollback permissions

[edit]
Please be sure to follow the instructions below:
Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions, and not doing so would reflect poorly on your suitability.
Please also review the Global rollback policy.
Instructions for making a request

Before requesting, make sure that: You have sufficient activity to meet the requirements to be allocated the global rollback flag

To make a request
Copy the template below to the bottom of this section and explain of why you need the access and why you're suitable.
=== Global rollback for {{subst:u|{{subst:REVISIONUSER}}}} ===
{{sr-request
 |status    = <!-- don't change this line -->
 |domain    = global <!-- don't change this line -->
 |user name = {{subst:REVISIONUSER}} <!-- don't change this line unless you're nominating another user -->
}}
::''Not ending before {{subst:#time:H:i, j F Y (T)|+5 days}}''

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than 5 days (with rare exceptions , no matter how obvious the result may seem). This is not a vote, and all input is welcome. Stewards will determine whether consensus exists; when doing so it is likely that the weight given to the input of those involved in cross-wiki work will be most influential.

Requests for global sysop permissions

 |user name = {{subst:REVISIONUSER}} <!-- don't change this line unless you're nominating another user -->
}}
::''Not ending before {{subst:#time:H:i, j F Y (T)|+2 week}}''

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than two weeks (no exceptions are allowed no matter how obvious the result may seem). This is not a vote, and all input is welcome. Stewards will determine whether consensus exists; when doing so it is likely that the weight given to the input of those involved in cross-wiki work will be most influential. The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than two weeks (no exceptions are allowed no matter how obvious the result may seem). While all input is welcome, there is a hard 80% support requirement for this role as per the global renamer policy.

Global IP block exempt for HMOXDSS1

--HMOXDSS1 (talk) 10:34, 23 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for Zophas

[edit]

I am a user who currently lives in China and would need a global IP block exemption to make contributions to metaWiki, thanks, --Zophas (talk) 12:30, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This request itself is a contribution here on the metawiki, what sort of challenge are you having? — xaosflux Talk 11:11, 1 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry for the confusion. I cannot create local accounts in other wikimedia projects such as the Chinese wikiquote (“Auto-creation of a local account failed”) due to a global ban on the IP addresses of the proxies I'm using. Zophas (talk) 12:07, 1 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And I cannot edit wikidata due to global IP bans Zophas (talk) 05:40, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Are there anything else I can do or evidence to provied? @Xaosflux Zophas (talk) 13:08, 30 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Someone will get to your request eventually, there is currently a backlog. You may also apply directly to projects by emailing them, if they have email support. — xaosflux Talk 13:12, 30 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for YzmLiyuu

[edit]

Hello, my Username is YzmLiyuu. I am a logged-in user from mainland China, mainly contributing to the Japanese and Chinese Wikipedias.

Due to internet censorship in mainland China (Great Firewall), I am unable to access Wikimedia projects directly. In order to edit Wikipedia, I have to use proxies or VPN services. I have already been granted IP block exemption (IPBE) on Chinese Wikipedia, and I always edit in good faith.

However, after editing Japanese Wikipedia for a short time, I was globally blocked due to my IP address being within the range 2605:52C0:2::/48, which was blocked by EPIC on 2024-06-17 for "Open proxy/Webhost".

I do not abuse proxies, and I only use them as a necessary tool to access Wikipedia due to regional restrictions. Unfortunately, this global block also prevents me from editing my own user talk page in Japanese Wikipedia , making it impossible to request locally.

Therefore, I would like to kindly request the Global IP Block Exemption (GIPBE) flag for my account so I can continue contributing constructively to Wikimedia projects under my registered account.

Thank you very much for your understanding and support.

Global IP block exempt for Agregeesoutienscolaire

[edit]

I ask on behalf of Agregeesoutienscolaire, for she can't ask for herself, being blocked because she uses a VPN. I'm a sysop and bureaucrat on fr.wp, met her at the wikicamp 2025, and she told me of her problem. The user has a history of completely normal edits on fr.wp, she's not a vandal and wishes for the IP exemption (I got her one on fr.wp, but she'd like to try to edit wikidata). Best regards, thanks in advance, --Esprit Fugace (talk) 13:14, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It seems this user can solve their own problem, but disabling their VPN service? — xaosflux Talk 14:33, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Xaosflux She did try (I was there and saw the software on the computer say the VPN was not active), but it proved not enough. She's not sure why it didn't work. She's not technologically inclined, and it was my understanding that her configuration was not entirely her choice, but a requirement of her employer. She's been using a smartphone meanwhile to contribute. It does work (all her edits since April 2024 have been done on mobile, there), but it's mightily inconvenient, and does prevent her from doing more than correct a few typos, when she's been wanting to invest more time in the projects (as a proof, she did come to the wikicamp organised by Wikimedia France this year, from abroad, to better understand not only Wikipedia but the other projects, too). Best regards, Esprit Fugace (talk) 17:40, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Once a device is blocked, it will remain blocked for 24 hours. If they turn off VPN, they may be able to speed this by clearing cookies. If they are using someone else's computer, they should check with their device administrator for assistance. Assuming the device owner wants their device used for this purpose, they can whitelist our domains. — xaosflux Talk 17:48, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Agregeesoutienscolaire: What do you think ? Would that work ? Esprit Fugace (talk) 16:45, 7 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for Chanson taku

[edit]

Hi, I am an active user on the Chinese Wikipedia living in Mainland China. Due to the Great Firewall, direct access to Wikimedia projects is blocked, and I must use VPN/proxy connections, which often triggers IP blocks or open proxy blocks. I request a global IP block exemption so I can continue editing and connecting my articles to Wikidata. My contributions mainly focus on creating and improving Chinese Wikipedia articles related to Hong Kong and Chinese culture. Thank you very much. --Chanson taku (talk) 14:00, 7 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Global interface editor for Matma Rex

[edit]

Hi SRGP, long time no see. I would like to again request an extension of my global interface editor rights, due to expire on 13 July. I am a MediaWiki developer and I use these rights occasionally to keep our wikis' customizations compatible with software changes. I most recently needed them in March (see GUC). My previous requests: [1]. Thanks. Matma Rex (talk) 20:33, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
