  • Personal info: My name is Mohammed Farag and I live in Alexandria, Egypt. I have been a contributor to several Wikimedia projects since April 2006. I hold many positions of trust on many wikis, this includes being a checkuser and admin on Arabic Wikipedia, an admin on English Wikipedia and Commons and a sysop and 'crat here on Meta-Wiki. I have been involved in many Wikimedia-related areas in the past years. For example, I have participated in the preparations for the creation of a Wikimedia chapter in Egypt. I help with several OTRS queues and I also enjoyed attending Wikimania 2008 where I learned a lot about the Wikimedia universe and met many Board/Staff members. I am glad that I am trusted in so many projects, and here I am, asking the global Wikimedia community to elect me as a steward. Thank you.

Danke.

    well, simply because he particpates in Egyption wiki! I think all Arabs know for sure that there is NO such language called Egyption! Anyways, we are not here to discuss the Egyption wiki, so honestly, I can't trust someone who would support such a project. Yamanam 08:53, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Oppose Oppose Makes problems, not friendly & is authoritarian for no reason. He intends to replace the welcome templates that we use to welcome new users with the script inside the template. This makes a problem, because we need to change the words & links inside the templates, but when he pastes the words of the templates instead of the template itself {{}}, we are not able anymore to apply changes for all the pages that we have put the welcome template for them. We tried many times to ask him why is he acting so strange on Wikipedia Masri, he refused to give us reasons. So, we had to ban him from editing on wikipedia Masri. I was so tired recovering ALL his mess. Now I don't want to see this authoritarian guy is an administrator for all wikipedias, so he would mess with wikipedia Masri, that almost everybody likes to corrupt it! He's already an administrator & a check-user in Arabic wikipedia. Most of Arabic administrators are HELL against Masri wikipedia & evilly want to corrupt it, such as Ahmed Basyuni. --Mahmudmasri 04:35, 18 February 2009 (UTC).[reply]
    It is ironic how both people with and against arz.wp oppose Meno for being with, and against arz at the same time. Stop being ambivalent, Meno! Other than that: There is no admin on ar.wp by the name you mention,if he claims he is, you can easily check the access log you posted, and Meno was probably substituting the welcome template on your wiki in accordance with what's customary on meta, en.wp and most other wikis. I am pretty sure that is he didnt have vandalism in mind and banning for that is pretty unreasonable (languo-political tensions notwithstanding). --Shipmaster 05:43, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    This is my original user-name on incubator http://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Dudi . I made another one 'cause I couldn't globalize "Dudi" & continued on using it after the migration of Masri wikipedia from the incubator to arz.wikipedia.org. & for Shipmaster, Oh really, am I the one who is politicizing issues here! You are against Masri wikipedia & called it قيام ويكيبيديا المصرية ليس اسوأ سيء ممكن ان يحدث في العالم. Why is it that bad to make a wikipedia version for a true vernacular? Or you are the one who is politicized here who doesn't accept the truth that is against your pan-Arabism! You also tried to open debates that would increase the opposition for Masri wikipedia, such as claiming that we write in Latin alphabet, when we stated that we would open the project to write in Arabic Alphabet [1], when anyone visits Masri wikipedia, will see that all of its articles are written in Arabic alphabet, with just few articles written in Latin as an example for a different writing system, NOT TO WRITE IN LATIN ALPHABET INSTEAD OF ARABIC ALPHABET. I have to mention as well that Kurdish wikipedia is written in both alphabets! Why didn't we see any outrage on it? In Masri wikipedia, we have become used to the daily routine of vandalism & corruption that is tiring us & not giving us the chance to enhance it further more. & yes, if you see Meno25 edits on Masri wikipedia, you would notice that it's mostly non-sense just to increase his edit counts. Meno25 is already an administrator# Meno25 (Check user, Administrator) (Created on 15 April 2006 at 09:48) & a check-user# Meno25 (Check user, Administrator) (Created on 15 April 2006 at 09:48) in Arabic wikipedia --Mahmudmasri 18:15, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    FYI I wrote this and the sentence you pasted in Arabic translates to "The creation of Wikipedia Masry is not the worst thing to happen in the world". But Ok, Whatever, we get it, we are all bad people here. You made your point, you are against Meno because he was 'corrupting' arz.wp, you banned him because he was 'vandalizing' your wiki by substituting welcome templates. I am not going to reply further, Regards. --Shipmaster 01:22, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    Stop misleading & disinformation! " ليس اسوأ سيء ممكن ان يحدث في العالم" means, that it's not the worst thing of the worst things that can happen in the world, meaning that it's really bad, but there are worse things in the world. Now it differs from what you want to mislead readers with. It's not only for Meno's substitution for templates, he also makes non-sense edits & pastes templates from the Arabic wikipedia without even translating it to the Egyptian Arabic & this is against Masri wikipedia. Re-read my comment from the beginning! --Mahmudmasri 04:43, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    Thank you for the civility, I wasnt going to reply, but since you are misquoting me, let me translate my whole paragraph (in response to someone from ar.wp complaining about attribution), here is what I said: "I have another issue beside the point, the pinnacle of collaborative work is to facilitate what you do not approve of if the community approved it. I personally reply to OTRS emails from people who are outraged at the creation of Wikipedia Masry by explaining the Wikimedia policy that led to its creation despite that I myself am not convinced. So I would like to please ask fellow wikipedians to stop putting hurdles in the path of this project and assume good faith, The people who approved this project did so to spread knowledge even if we disagree with them. And the creation of Wikipedia Masry is not the worst thing to happen in the world and reading information in Masry or standard Arabic doesnt matter as long as the information will be read in the first place (please look at the illiteracy rate in the Arabic world.)", Now I dont know how you would translate this as me bashing your project, still, I ask you to assume good faith. I would also like to ask you stop using words like 'corrupt', 'evil' and 'misleading' in light of civility. Thank you. --Shipmaster 05:29, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    Let me see, i wonder whether that who performed the banning on Meno25 on Wikipedia Masri understands at all the banning policy or the definition of vandalism! I have no memory that the definition of vandalism included at any time Template substitution which states clearly "The archives of a user's talk page should show the actual welcome message they received, not the current welcome message." I believe this will satisfactory reply your question which i wished you would look for it yourself before performing an invalid ban on an exellent user who use the best of his time to develop the quality of a new born project and teach the users over there who to do the things in the right way. --Ciphers 06:46, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    Maybe that undeniably outstanding "excellent" Arabic contributor user wasn't so good in Masri wikipedia. My complaining wasn't just for his substitution. NB: I see that both of Shipmaster# Shipmaster (Bureaucrat, Administrator) (Created on 20 August 2006 at 07:33) & Ciphers are from the Arabic wikipedia. --Mahmudmasri 08:21, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  6. Oppose Oppose , and reasons are;
  • Double standards, by not agreeing to a project and then attempt to share in it, his edits on translation caused disruption to the translation efforts on beta translate, and they still need a lot of work on them. *Lack of neutrality, and reduced acceptance of others' right to differ, showing lack of tolerance. This is obvious from his answers and the attempt of his supporters to hide the opposer's opinion by striking it, and him agreeing to that and not removing the strike. *Disagreeing with language committee, risking having divisive arguments if he was a steward. --Ghaly 09:03, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
