This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia projects which do not have a local permissions procedure.

Old sections are archived. The list of archives is below.

  • Requests for bot flags are handled at SRB, and requests for global permissions are handled at SRGP.
  • If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).
  • For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel. In emergencies, type !steward in the channel to get the attention of stewards. Otherwise, you can type @steward for non-urgent help.

Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

2. Fill in the values:

  • domain: the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
  • user name: the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case you're requesting access for multiple bots, leave this field blank and give a list of these bots in your remarks
  • discussion: a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser]]"). This should normally be for at least one week, but no more than three weeks (if so, you'll need to restart the process).

3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Confirmation of signing confidentiality agreement

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to sign a confidentiality agreement. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also sign the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the Office.

The wiki needs it's first active administrator as there is much to fix e.g. many articles created with just pure vandalism, many having entirely non-Punjabi text, empty pages and much more. I'm much experienced on en.wiki and have admin's right on pa.wiki and now, also, want to improve the orphan pa.wiktionary. TariButtar (talk) 16:17, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think some of the hesitation may come from the fact that you've just been promoted to admin on pa.wiki a month ago per your request, and it might seem that you're not heavily engaged in pa.wiktionary at the moment. Pundit (talk) 14:12, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And what is the urgency? The fact is that stewards require that a notification be made to the community, which we require to be in place for a minimum of a week, and to this point you have not done it. I'm not requesting rights on the basis of my contributions to pa.wiktionary; I've just started there but as being an experienced user of en.wiki I know the dos and don'ts well so not to worry about anything unusual, vandal etc. from me. I just expressed my interest in improving it in a better way. Why there is no response to my request? Why it is unnoticed on such a highly watched page? I want this to be come to an end. Please at least tell me, this request is denied, on hold or what? I want a response. The wiki doesn't have a village pump and for now, I don't think it should have one. I've told earlier that there is no community then which I should satisfied? I just fulfilled the formality by positing there. Back in June, adminship for three of us was granted for 3 months based on local voting. This time we would like to get an approval for 6 months if possible. The Slovene Wikiversity community is small and other than many students who work on their projects has very few active members. My opinion is that while indeed 11 people voted, almost all of them have only single digit contributions to that project. While I don't doubt your suitability for the role, there isn't really community there... --Bencmq (talk) 18:16, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You now have admin rights and can delete articled and block vandals. It just that you have to come back after 6 month, after a new announcement locally, and your adminship will be extended.     Presumably the steward reviewing the request does not believe that there is sufficient size and activity to the community to yet grant permanent adminship. You do not work on this wiki, and I work. There are 10 active users and 20 active bots. We have a community, and at the last time it was created almost 50 new articles! Oversight access

To request to have content oversighted, ask in #wikimedia-stewards, or email oversight-en-wp@wikipedia.org for requests regarding English Wikipedia. This is the place to request Oversight access. Note that temporary Oversight access is not permitted and the temporary status is only used by Stewards.

Do not grant Oversight access unless the user is identified to the foundation, which will be announced on the Identification noticeboard. When you give someone oversight access, list them on Oversight.

  • If you're requesting the removal of your own permissions, make sure you're logged in to your account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request (see [[<tvar name="self-discussion">Talk:Steward_requests/Permissions/2011#Self_requests</tvar>|previous discussion]] on 24 hour delays); the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.
  • To request the removal of another user's permissions, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first.
