The organization believes that Wikipedia, among other Wikimedia projects, belongs in education hence it engages in projects, programs and activities that promote free, responsibly open-content resources and reference materials, through academia among other entities. When students of all ages contribute to Wikimedia projects as part of their learning, they gain significant 21st century skills. By fostering a relationship between Education and the Wikimedia movement, we have the best chance to realize our goal that the sum of all knowledge will be accessible to everyone in the world for free.

Marife G. Altabano serves as the Chair of Education Committee (2023-present). She is the current Board Treasurer. She is a Mathematics teacher at Cararayan National High School of Naga City Division, and Master of Arts in Mathematics Education student at Bicol University. Leah B. Banastao served the committee from 2020-2021. A faculty member of Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, she was first involved as a participant in WikiTutorial conducted in 2018-2019. The committee was first held by Froy Beraña, who he led the WikiTutorial program which aimed to increase the skills of existing contributors and the capacity of the PhilWiki Community.

Wiki Education Philippines

PhilWiki Community relaunched its Education program on December 13, 2023 formalizing its Education program as Wiki Education Philippines encompassing the different initiatives of the User Group under one name. The organization conducts outreach activities in schools to promote Wikimedia projects and encourage their participation as users and contributors.

Education Committee chair Marife Altabano organized a seminar-workshop on writing a research paper entitled Wikipedia Unlocked: Navigating, Validating, and Citing Information for Practical Research 2 as part of the requirements of senior high school students in Practical Research 2. The activity aimed at helping students who are writing research papers to use Wikipedia as a research tool and to validate and cite sources using APA format. Also covered in the seminar-workshop was independent verification and fact-checking to ensure accuracy and reliability. During the event, the Wiki Education Philippines logo was officially launched, and established the Cararayan National High School Wiki Club (CNHS Wiki Club) was launched. The officers and pioneering members of the extra-curricular club for junior and senior high school students included the attendees. The Wiki Club's goal is to educate the learners and raise awareness about contributing media content to Wikipedia and its sister projects. The organizer believes that the activities was a positive step in achieving the Education Program's mission.

Central Bicol State University of Agriculture

Last 25 October 2023, CBSUA Wiki Education was launched in partnership with PH-WC and Bikol Wikipedia Community. The roots of the partnership can be traced back to 2012, with conferences and training sessions involving CBSUA faculty and students beginning in 2017. An Activity Agreement will be signed between CBSUA and the PhilWiki Community to outline the responsibilities of both parties. CBSUA Wiki Education, a joint program of the International Relations Office of CBSUA-Calabanga and the PhilWiki Community and Bikol Wikipedia Community, marks a significant milestone as the first university-based Wiki community in the Philippines.

Deped Camarines Sur

Wiki Club Minalabac has been organized after the presentation and workshop on the Utilization of Wikimedia in Lessons at the 5-day In-service Training of Teachers in Minalabac District. Teachers participated in the Wiki Quiz as part of the presentation to understand how Wikimedia has been utilized in lessons. Proper citation and relicensing were also discussed to more than 50 teachers and school heads in attendance. At the end of the session, outputs were presented and at least 20 teachers signified to participate in the upcoming Wiki-related activities, in the formation of a Wiki Club for teachers in Minalabac and in organizing a teacher's training on Wikimedia next school year 2024-2025.

In the previous years, PhilWiki Community distributed copies of Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom Teacher's Guide to Allan B. Fabay, Elementary School Principal I of Manapao Elementary School under DepEd Minalabac District, and to Decimo L. Espiritu, Ed.D., Secondary School Principal III of San Juan National High School under Deped Libmanan North District on June 1 and June 18, respectively. On 20 October 2021, over 200 printed copies of the localized version (Bikol) of the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom booklets were provided to teachers and students at San Juan National High School, Libmanan North District, Schools Division of Camarines Sur. In partnership with Kintab Artists Group, PhilWiki Community also conducted Wiki Loves Art mural painting in the said schools as part of the #Wikipedia20 global celebration.

On September 4, 2021 the PhilWiki Community and other stakeholders volunteered for the Brigada Eskwela 2021 at Bikol High School for the Arts and Culture in preparation for the opening of classes. The Community conducted a dialogue with the school head on a possible partnership along with Parasurat Bikolnon and Kintab Artists Group. As a result, the 3-day Training in Translation and Creative Writing for Teachers and Young Writers held on March 11-13, 2022 via Google Meet was realized.

On February 2, 2022, Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom was presented during the School-based In-service Training attended by more that 30 teachers of Deped Minalabac District. In the past, the Education Team of Wikimedia Foundation conducted the pilot project Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom with the help of PhilWiki Community and two other affiliates in Morocco, and Bolivia. Different indicators of the education system have been studied for these countries, information on the country’s school system, teacher qualifications, curriculum, and media and information literacy.

In its initiative project, the Community aimed to localize and contextualize the materials produced by the Education Team for the its community outreach activities. The project also served as a venue for teachers to get acquainted with the Wikimedia Movement through Education programs. Initially, the Community aimed the localization and contextualization of the modules. PH-WC planned to scale up the project in selected DepEd Divisions in the country.

Wikipedia Translation Tool

Wiki Gap PH 2022

The WikiGap in the Philippines 2022 launching organized by PhilWiki Community was participated by junior and senior high school teachers as part of the celebration of women's month. Participants were taught how to contribute using the Wikipedia Translation Tool during the event launch held on March 5, 2022 at Tugawe Cove Cafe, Naga City.

3-day Training in Translation and Creative Writing for Teachers and Young Writers

In collaboration with Parasurat Bikolnon, and Bikol High School for the Arts and Culture, participants in the 3-day Training in Translation and Creative Writing for Teachers and Young Writers held on March 11-13, 2022 via Google Meet were introduced to the Wikipedia Translation Tool. Using Wikipedia Translation Tool is one of the topics discussed during the training along with literary traslation, creative non-fiction writing, and flash fiction writing.

Bikol Wikipedia as a learning resource

Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers - Junior Chapter Luzon

PhilWiki Community president Engr. Ralff Nestor Nacor served as a guest speaker on Chemical Engineers and the Food & Beverage Industry at the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers - Junior Chapter Luzon (PIChE-JCL) Fair 2021 attended by B.S. Chemical Engineering students from universities and colleges of Luzon via Zoom. Aside from sharing his experience as a chemical engineer, he also presented his volunteer works as a Wikipedian advocating the science information in the local language.

Deped Catanduanes

PhilWiki Community conducted an outreach activity in Catanduanes attended by around 50 elementary and high school teacher in Social Studies. Participants were introduced to the Bikol edition of Wikipedia. They were encouraged to utilize and add local knowledge on the website. The province has three languages which include Central Bikol, Northern Catanduanes Bikol and Southern Catanduanes Bikol.

Wikimedia+Education Conference 2019

On April 5-7, 2019 - Irvin Sto. Tomas participated at Wikimedia+Education Conference 2019 held in San Sebastian, Basque Country in Spain where he presented a lightning talk and participated in discussions. The inaugural conference was a gathering Wikimedians/educators who are involved in promoting Wikimedia projects in the academic setting.

WikiTutorial 2018-2019

WikiTutorial and Monthly Meetings were conducted from November 2018 to June 2019. Twenty (20) content editors participated in the tutorial, meetings and activities during this period along with educators who learned the basic editing and Wikimedia movement in the Philippines.

On November 16, 2018, the first session of the tutorial was held at Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA Main) in Pili, Camarines Sur.

On April 8, 2019, the CBSUA Main campus, Sentro ng Wika at Kultura (SWK-CBSUA) and the Parasurat Bikolnon, Inc. sponsored Hurop-Hurop, Huron-Huron: Usapang Panpanitikang Bikol, a forum on Bikol literature attended by writers, teachers, and students. Among the speakers was Beraña who shared about the role of Bikol Wikipedia in promoting and preserving Bikol language.

On April 25, 2019 - PH-WC conducted an Outreach Activity in Catanduanes during the Training Workshop on Pagmidbid sa Kultura, Pagdiskubre sa Isla (rediscovering the culture of the island) attended by around fifty (50) social Studies both in elementary and high school levels from Department of Education - Division of Catanduanes. The team shared about Wiki Education Program within and outside the Philippines, and Bikol Wikipedia as a learning resource. The participants were encouraged to get involved by contributing local knowledge on Wikipedia and to start local Wikipedia projects for Northern Catanduanes Bikol and Southern Catanduanes Bikol languages.

On May 18, 2019 - 1Lib1Ref Campaign in the Philippines (under GLAM) was launched at University of Nueva Caceres in Naga City. Around 30 librarians and library science students get acquainted by proper referencing on Wikipedia. The activity was organized by WikiTutorial participants namely Anthony Diaz, Imelda Brazal, Ramon Olaño and Marvin Molin.

Photowalk with students

On 21 August 2018, BS Architecture students of Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology (BISCAST) in Naga City led by Froy Beraña, Maffeth Opiana and Ian Kenneth Orasa conducted a photo walk within Camarines Sur. The whole-day activity in Camarines Sur which had a theme LITRATO: Capturing The Historical Growth Through Synergy of Cultural Diversity covered the towns of Calabanga, Bombon, Magarao, Canaman, and Naga City.

As part of the month-long celebration of the 10th anniversary of Bikol Wikipedia, on November 25, 2017, a lecture on Wikimedia Commons was conducted. It was was attended by students and the director for research of Central Bicol State University of Agriculture who looks forward to a formal partnership with PhilWiki Community.
