Translate me[edit]

Now your request is moved to Template:Translation requests/fromlocalreqs (seen as TR#Requests from local projects). It would be great if you add the delivery deadline (until when you need to finish it) not only for translators but also for us to sort out requests in the future. Thanks! --Aphaia 05:27, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I set the deadline to april, I hope thats enough time, but the extension is otherwise ready for prime time usage. --Dschwen 07:18, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary sysop access[edit]

Hello,
per your request in WM:RFA, I've granted you a temporary sysop access expiring on 16 September. Please remember that this access is limited to what you requested it for. --.anaconda 11:39, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I have no intentions of using the admin rights for anything else as I still lack the insight into the administrative structures on meta. --Dschwen 11:42, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiminiatlas b0rken[edit]

With your last edit as described here. Please test changes beforehand, as it's now live in enwiki's common.js. :-( Thanks, Миша13 21:01, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I created a staging copy, which I have been meaning to do for a few days. Its always the seemingly easy stuff that bites you in the ass... --Dschwen 21:45, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiMiniAtlas in French[edit]

Hello !

I have discovered the WikiMiniAtlas and I find it great ! (of course). I would like to put on fr.wikipedia, I am a sysop there, and I think there's been some demand for it recently. I understand that, in order to have clickable links on the map, you need to import geolocalised data from the French Wikipedia. Can you tell me what I can do in order to help ? Thank you ! le Korrigan bla 21:43, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

French links should be working now, too. --Dschwen 09:05, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you ! I have tested it with my personal Monobook on fr.wikipedia, the links show up, but when you click on the downwards arrow, it is not possible to select "French", which means that there is no way to come back to the French links once you have selected another language or Commons. Something you can fix ? le Korrigan bla 22:22, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Whoops, sorry, completely forgot about that. Its fixed. --Dschwen 06:08, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Looks better now, thanks :-) le Korrigan bla 08:13, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CSS coordinates globe icon[edit]

You mention the coordinates globe on your user page, so perhaps you can help identify where discussion should take place. See Babel#CSS_coordinates_globe_icon. (SEWilco 17:30, 26 August 2007 (UTC))[reply]

WikiMiniAtlas in Icelandic[edit]

Hi. Great atlas. Can I put it up at the Icelandic Wikipedia full with great links and stuff? I'd also be willing to translate the interface. --Steinninn 01:01, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I forgot, I've already translated it at commons:Commons:WikiMiniAtlas/Translations. Can you put it up at the js? --Steinninn 01:10, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And thanks for nominating my picture. --Steinninn 04:52, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The icelandic links should be working now. --Dschwen 09:05, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it's working. Thanks --Steinninn 14:27, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiMiniAtlas in Catalan[edit]

Hi. Your tool is a great tool, another example of the wikipedia power!! We have added the WikiMiniAtlas right now in the catalan wikipedia (see an example at ca:Dragonera). A lot of people are interested on this project and a wikiproject has started to focus the efforts for geocoordiante our wikipedia. Can you add links from catala wikipedia on the map? Thanks in advance :-) --Joanjoc 08:06, 1 September 2007 (UTC) (Catalan wikipedia sysop)[reply]

Done. Great to see it on another wikipedia. --Dschwen 17:42, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks !! --Joanjoc 21:26, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Two questions[edit]

Hi again :-) i have two questions...

  1. How often links inside the map are updated? It's possible to know the last update time?
  2. Some links are deduced from interwikilinks. There's an easy way to know from each language are the coordenates to one link ? (For example in catalan wiki Ferrol doesn't have coordenates, but appears on the map. I have to manually check the interwikis to found the origin coordinates?)

Thanks for your patience :-) --Joanjoc 08:26, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am planning to make the source language available on a tooltip. The last update times can be seen here de:Wikipedia:WikiProjekt_Georeferenzierung/Wikipedia-World/en as I'm using the Wikipedia-World dataset. --Dschwen 09:30, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiMiniAtlas in Norwegian (bokmål)[edit]

Hi, can you add labels for nowiki? ZorroIII 22:54, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done, but you currently seem to have a bug in your site javascript (wgUserGroups is used but not defined). --Dschwen 09:05, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's defined inline, but maybe only when logged in? ZorroIII 14:29, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe, but this way the JS execution is aborted and anonymous users don't see the WikiMiniAtlas. I'd suggest checking if wgUserGroups is defined before querying it. --Dschwen 16:42, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiMiniAtlas in spanish[edit]

Hello, I'm user from es.wikipedia.

Can you activate WikiMiniAtlas in spanish? Thank's. -=BigSus=- 21:55, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll rephrase his question. What do we need to work on so we can get spanish labels on wikiminatlas? for instance es:Múnich already displays the atlas with the little globe, but we (most people interested) are clueless about adding it to other pages, and also what needs to be worked to get spanish labels. drini [es:] [commons:] 00:12, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Spanish labels require a server-side change to work. Done. Please try and tell me if it works. --Dschwen 18:04, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Arno Lagrange  07:33, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
--Dschwen 19:07, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ja ! so schön ! Noch mal vielen Danken !! Arno Lagrange  13:46, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiMiniAtlas labels in Volapük[edit]

Hi, Dschwen. We at Volapük Wikipedia would like to have labels in the WikiMiniAtlas. How can we make this work? I take this opportunity to also ask you if there are things in WikiMiniAtlas that could be translated and how. Thanks in advance Malafaya 13:42, 14 November 2007 (UTC) , also vo:User:Malafaya[reply]

Translations are gathered at commons:Commons:WikiMiniAtlas/Translations. For labels you'll need support from the Wikipedia-World project. --Dschwen 16:45, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary adminship[edit]

Hello Dschwen,
I noticed you've made WikiMiniAtlas a MediaWiki extension. Do you still need your sysop rights here on Meta? You know... I appreciate your work, but your temporary access expired 2 months ago :-) Thank you. --.anaconda 14:33, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know. And yes, the adminship would be useful for the time being. You can see from my contribution list that I have used the admin priviliges only for updating the WMA. I've recently been granted Subversion access to the Mediawiki repository. The WikiMiniAtlas will be turned into a Mediawiki extension in the longrun. But for now it would be most useful to have quick access to the current implementation to be able to swiftly update and bug-fix. --Dschwen 16:41, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As per your request and discussion held on the RfA page, you've been granted limited and temporary sysop rights. Current bestowal expires 10 June, 2008 but please ask for removal of rights if you find that you do not need them anymore. Thank you, M/ 21:25, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Alright! Will do. Thanks. --Dschwen 22:50, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Miniatlas in Romanian[edit]

Hello Dschwen,

I tried, I really did try to submit this via the bug tracker, but it looked way too complicated for such a small issue. Whenever you have 5 minutes, please include these: [1]. Thanks, en:User:Gutza 15:31, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Gutza, that's ok :-). But please just add your translations here. Then I'll include them instantly. --Dschwen 15:37, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mayflower translation[edit]

Hi, I added icelandic translation for the Mayflower search-button. 85.220.84.124 13:25, 1 January 2008 (UTC) (Jóna Þórunn)[reply]

Hi, I added catalan translation for the Mayflower search-button--80.32.46.8 21:18, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Implemented, thanks! --Dschwen 21:37, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi :), I added Simplified and Traditional Chinese translation for the Mayflower search button. Thanks for your help! --Lkopeter 11:49, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Both added, what about the other Chinese localizations? Do you know anyone that could help? --Dschwen 17:56, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Added. Please check.--Lkopeter 12:24, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! They are implemented now as well. --Dschwen 13:05, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiMiniAtlas in Arabic[edit]

please enable the clickable links (WikiMiniAtlas) for the Arabic wikipedia Ali11 14:23, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I added support for arabic. Please test it. Best Dschwen 16:47, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Syntax error in WikiMiniAtlas[edit]

This: please escape the ' inside. -AlexSm 17:16, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiMiniAtlas on other sites[edit]

Appropedia.org may begin a geotagging effort soon, using Template:Coord.

WikiMiniAtlas would be a wonderful thing to offer if it would show clickable links for other Appropedia.org articles. I am unclear as to whether it is possible to setup the server-side support for this only for Wikipedia projects in other languages, or for any MediaWiki installation.

Thanks for your help. --Aaronantrim 16:15, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary adminship removed.[edit]

Looks like your rights expired and were removed by Shizhao. If you still need them, please let us know on WM:RFA. Thanks for all your hard work! ~Kylu (u|t) 05:20, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here we go again :-) --Dschwen 21:32, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I have extended your adminship to 6 months this time and if you decide that you like it, you can start being really active on Meta and you can have another RfA even before the term expires, for a permanent one..--Cometstyles 04:16, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is my third temp adminship. And it is not about being really active, it is about being able to edit that one javascript page. So of course I'll be back on RfA in six months, yet again. This is a bit disappointing. --Dschwen 15:19, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiMiniAtlas in Friulian[edit]

Hi, I've added Friulian strings at the proper page. Do I need to do something else to see them on fur.wiki? Thanks, and keep up the good work with WikiMiniAtlas ;-) --Klenje 17:08, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, the next steps are up to me. I added the part one strings. Will add the rest next.. --Dschwen 23:44, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Purge cache to see the changes. --Dschwen 23:55, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, part one and part two strings work perfectly, do you plan to add also part three? But don't worry, it's already a great job, thanks a lot--Klenje 20:49, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CR is not in a gallery[edit]

I was talking about the section that is not in a gallery.

Being blocked for opinions expressed on my talk page is inexcusable and wrong. It is those pretty styled User name people who started joining right after I read that ant thing.

The way to get a person to be rude on her talk page is to keep talking crap there. This stinks and it really isn't me that stinks.

Also, I know the difference between strings and arrays. -- CarolSpears 17:49, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh right, CR is not in a gallery. Hmm. It is still odd that the original signatures kicked in there. The javascript signatures should have replaced the fourtildes befor the page was saved. Why didn't that work in some cases? Which browser are you using? --Dschwen 18:13, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's the way to clean CR out!! -- CarolSpears 12:36, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

whining about software bloat and user gloat[edit]

I am seriously too lazy to put that talk part on it. It is the only real proof that it "started" to work eventually. Thanks for whatever that is at the commons. Do you think Richard actually does live with his parents? -- CarolSpears 18:20, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, some version of Minefield before Debian (I refuse to call anything lately an upgrade but) upgraded g++. I really despised everything that Ice weasel was needing. -- CarolSpears 18:22, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I can't view the history of the QI nominations with this damn block. I really thought I had changed all of those full names into my preferred always used "nick". -- CarolSpears 18:29, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The thing that bothers me most is the fake offense. Just look at Bidgee's talk page and see what was deleted from there of me trying to ask that user to stop editing my work or to at least talk to me about it before editing my work. The diffs -- the damn diffs, they started with these people and that TOL thing which was going to end with the same exact situation where the TOL people can remove the damn species categories because the agreement will always end with images need a category but nothing says that it has to be one category or another.
If it matters, GTK+ and not GNOME also. Same reason as with Ice weasel. The last Debian upgrade of mplayer, I upgraded mplayer and it was working, I was talked into installing libdnav (something like that) for the menus. Once installed, there were no menus. So, useless software -- code that does nothing for me or that it promises to do -- off the computer! The Debian mplayer that upgraded without it, worked without it and had it added to it declared it a dependency and refused to get rid of it. Software that Debian gives me that lies is gotten rid of. -- CarolSpears 18:57, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Meh, dvd menues. I just use mplayer dvd://1, I don't need no fancy menues ;-). Yeah, the whole block situation gets more frustrating the more I read up on the discussion. People announcing to quit the project if some other user won't get blocked.. ..sorry, but that's just bad style. --Dschwen 19:20, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What did they do, snort some coke and start philosophizing on my talk page? There is nothing so sad as a bunch of coked up idiots. Speaking of that (maybe), I am very very very unhappy with the variable length of login that happens to me. -- CarolSpears 20:08, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think the saddest thing I saw at the commons (before that spew that is going on my talk page right now) was Richard having to make a sock to cast a negative vote. -- CarolSpears 20:13, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Script for blacklist[edit]

Hi, I saw your comment on Herby's talk page about writing a script to aid in dealing with the blacklist. Are you still interested in doing that? If so, please check Talk:Spam_blacklist#Logging_tool. A script would be very welcome, so I wanted to write one. Problem is that I don't have much time these days. Thanks, Erwin(85) 15:37, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Temp adminship expired[edit]

Hi, your temporary adminship on meta has expired and has been removed. I know you already have a 4th request planned, so if you transclude it soon, we can begin with the voting and yes this time you can request full adminship or for an year if you wish  :) ..--Cometstyles 03:41, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since full adminship is likely to be denied (I'm speaking from experience ;-) ) I won't bother changing my request. That lack of trust saddens me a bit. But hey, whatever. I just want to maintain the WikiMiniAtlas. --Dschwen 16:35, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, thanks for the notification! --Dschwen 16:35, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've closed it as an indefinite temporary adminship; per consensus, you won't need to re-request it again, although you will go through annual activity confirmations as normal Meta-Wiki sysops do. The adminship is still restricted to WikiMiniAtlas and related pages, the same as the last three times :) Cheers, Daniel (talk) 03:33, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

libnavdvd[edit]

I installed it today. My intention is to rip out an old video that was included as an extra in a very long movie I watched recently. I am right now ripping the last chapter that is on the disc and it occurred to me that I am ripping a regular DVD and I saw the extra in a Blueray DVD so the whole thing has perhaps been a waste of my time with the exception of the fact that I am successfully ripping from a DVD....

I really wanted you to see this video from 1923. I watched it, and somewhere in the middlish of it they were showing how there was this oil pipe built around the United States midwest and how they cleaned it. Since then, since seeing this, the only thing that I can think of is "Men are fucking crazy". They fixed every problem at the point which there was a problem. This little video showed how they built this plunger to clean stuff out of the pipes with and they had a person with good enough hearing to follow the plunger through the pipe. I couldn't help but wonder how long it took them to figure out to put a filter at the containers....

Damn it. It is not on this regular DVD. I am really sorry about this. Blueray technology is not actually at its best displaying video from 1923.... -- CarolSpears 02:58, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mh, I don't have a blureray player, but if you give me the title of the disc and the clip, I might be able to find it through our library system. --Dschwen 14:39, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The included thing was from 1923, an advertising film ("our product is so great and our company is so good at getting our product to you" told in that 1923 style...) from/by Sinclair Oil http://www.sinclairoil.com/history/history_p11.htm is about the pipeline that was in the film. It was included in the blueray DVD but not in the regular DVD for the movie There Will Be Blood. Three hours about early 1900's oil prospecting and refining.
I thought it through before attempting to rip it -- it seems that pubic domain is public domain no matter where the stuff comes from. Scans of old books are acceptable and a successful rip of this little PD movie is the equivalent to that. Heck, I was just going to upload it and point to the DVD somehow.
The movie was good enough -- being able to map movies and other video fiction onto what little "life that is not just me" I have lately is loosing its charm or ability to be a positive occurrence. The next day and for a few days after that, I was thinking more about that 1923 thing. It was possibly 1923 serious and 2009 funny. They did fix one problem at a time and usually at the location of the problem and not in a more preventative way in the larger system. I was kind of impressed with the breakdown of how much of the stuff they pulled out of the ground compared to how much stuff got used -- 3% waste. That is impressive today and so much more for 1923. It is difficult to know if the marketing people that made the film used real facts. If IBM told you via a commercial project that you could and should use carrots as a bottle/can opener, would you throw out your dedicated appliances that have shown they can do the job adequately? -- CarolSpears 02:09, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lithuanian wikipedia started of using WikiMiniAtlas. Please include in setup selection of wiki labels from the Lithuanian wikipedia. Thanks. --Vpovilaitis apt. 18:37, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WikiMiniAtlas at Greek Wikipedia broken[edit]

WikiMiniAtlas was implemented in el.wikipedia and worked for many months with no problem. The last couple of days (or more?) instead of labels for el.wikipedia articles, appear "Page not found" tiles. I understand that el labels were never among the languages supported and the data was produced by interwiki but it was working. WP-World and Google Earth layer were also working for us. It seems that data for el was removed from the server? --Geraki TL 23:00, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I relied on kolossos for these unsupported languages. But I have rewritten my back-end server, so I could fully support greek now. --Dschwen 16:16, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Should be working now. --Dschwen 16:22, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WikiMiniAtlas at Armenian wikipedia (hy.wp)[edit]

Hello, I've imported WikiMiniAtlas script to Armenian Wikipedia (hy.wikipedia.org). If I understood right, sometimes, some server-side changes are needed for WikiMiniAtlas to work on new wikipedias. I'm also providing string translations, as code is protected now:

buttonTooltip= hy:'ցուցադրել դիրքը ինտերակտիվ քարտեզի վրա',

close = hy:'փակել',

Thank you very much, beforehand. --Xelgen 00:16, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops. Sorry for the late response! I added the translations. Did you take a look at the second part of translation strings at commons:Commons:WikiMiniAtlas/Translations‎ ? --Dschwen 14:25, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How to disable http request from Wikiminiatlas in mediawiki??[edit]

Hello,

i want to run my mediawiki 1.16beta2 with SSL. Everything is working fine except that it connects to http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Wikiminiatlas.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&smaxage=21600&maxage=86400 on every page view... I need to disable this, because otherwise every browser gives me a warning, that this SSL connection is insecure because of non SSL content...

Ive searched (nearly) every file in the mediawiki files, but I did not find anything how to disable this.

Please tell me how to do this.

Thank you very much!

Regards!

EDIT: FOUND THE SOLUTION: Just take out the WikiMiniAtlas Code out of the common.js (Mediawiki:Common.js). And thats it.

You could also access a https hosted version of teh wikiminiatlas code, or copy it to your server. --Dschwen 15:07, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

hi.

you made a change today to look at wgNamespacenumber. however, there is no such variable (it should be wgNamesapceNumber), which throws an exception. we (i.e., hewiki) load the script from meta, so it affects us.

peace, קיפודנחש (talk) 22:43, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting I haven't gotten that yet. This means the localStorage space is exhausted. I'm using sessionStorage to cache the map labels so areas you already visited appear faster. Which browser are you using? It should disappear if you restart your browser (sessionStorage should be emptied upon browser restart). --Dschwen (talk) 18:54, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I bet it's chrome, it gets the wrong line number (40) for unnamed functions (callbacks). --Dschwen (talk) 18:56, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
On a not altogether unrelated note, your recent edits introduced a console.log debugging line, which I guess you were intending to, but forgot to, remove. Such a line breaks IE because it doesn't have a default console object to log to. Jarry1250 (talk) 17:56, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Letter petitioning WMF to reverse recent decitions[edit]

The Wikimedia Foundation recently created a new feature, "superprotect" status. The purpose is to prevent pages from being edited by elected administrators -- but permitting WMF staff to edit them. It has been put to use in only one case: to protect the deployment of the Media Viewer software on German Wikipedia, in defiance of a clear decision of that community to disable the feature by default, unless users decide to enable it.

If you oppose these actions, please add your name to this letter. If you know non-Wikimedians who support our vision for the free sharing of knowledge, and would like to add their names to the list, please ask them to sign an identical version of the letter on change.org.

I'm notifying you because you participated in one of several relevant discussions. -Pete F (talk) 22:04, 20 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

IEG feedback[edit]

Thanks for your detailed feedback on my IEG proposal. As I mentioned it is unlikely to succeed as it is with that much opposition, so I would appreciate if we could discuss further. The fact that so many people is sharing educational pictures through social media networks and not considering Commons is something that annoys me and I think that should be addressed. Maybe the proposal had some mistakes and I may lack experience but I believe this is a relevant and common concern. Don't you think that Commons could be improved by looking at social network strategies to increase users? Do you agree on any of my examples? Could you think about others? I don't think it is wise to give messages as "it's difficult" as in Wikipedia we give quite the opposite message. Thanks again! --Jey (talk) 15:08, 26 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Jey, I will comment further, but let me make this quick remark:
Being bold does not mean running into the same brick wall over and over again, it means looking for the door that other people have not yet found.
Just saying we need to make it easy for people to upload to commons is not enough. Think about why people don't upload to commons. I doubt that not finding the upload button on the main page is teh problem. Don't they know about the site? Don't they see a good reason to upload? What are the motivation for people to upload to certain services? What is the gratification the users get? Those are questions that need to be asked. --Dschwen (talk) 17:26, 26 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Mini Atlas not working since 1st December 2014[edit]

I have been editing the Wikipedia article List of English abbeys, priories and friaries serving as parish churches , adding coordinates for location; but from 1st December none of the listed map links into WMA have worked. Inspire Campaign on content curation & review[edit]

I've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia volunteers collaboratively manage vast repositories of knowledge, and we’re looking for your ideas about how to manage that knowledge to make it more meaningful and accessible. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.

All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is welcome - your skills and experience can help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign to improve review and curation tasks so that we can make our content more meaningful and accessible! I JethroBT (WMF) 05:39, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.

Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,

Interface admin?[edit]

--MF-W 10:44, 26 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I don't read German, but I am probably about to suggest something similar. --Rschen7754 23:53, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
MF-W and Rschen, I think that would be the reasonable thing to do. Thanks! --Dschwen (talk) 17:32, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@MF-Warburg, MarcoAurelio, and Matiia: How should this be handled? Do they have to run for the permission or should it just be granted/removed as needed? --Rschen7754 04:59, 5 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Rschen7754:Watching only, Meta:Interface_administrators states that sysops just have to ask for it. So I guess a direct granting is possible by the crats. --Cohaf (talk) 05:09, 5 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Given that the policy says that admins can be granted the right upon request, I see no issues with direct granting here either. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 11:00, 5 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I assume that this would include the removal of the useless temporary adminship too, though. --Rschen7754 18:47, 5 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Do you still need your interface admin rights? Please see Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat#Interface administrator inactivity. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 20:07, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, would be useful to jump in, in case some of my tools crap out. I've been absent for a while, but I'm not entirely gone! --Dschwen (talk) 23:45, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WikiMiniAtlas in Pashto[edit]

Hello, Mr. Dschwen, I see everytime that so many links in Pashto language use WikiMiniAtlas via Coord, but in pswiki it only shows the default English interface, could we please get the clickable link option in pswiki (Pashto)? i took the issue to the phabricator, but found that i have to talk to you :)) Af420 (talk) 00:11, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello User:Af420, can you provide the translation data at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:WikiMiniAtlas/Translations ? --Dschwen (talk) 21:57, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's done sir:) Af420 (talk) 02:10, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dear @Dschwen: i have done the transition, and am hoping that we'll soon get to see the Pashto language in "pswiki", let me know if if anything else is required before it's done, best wishes, and thank you. Af420 (talk) 00:43, 18 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Getting on it... --Dschwen (talk) 19:09, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Af420:, your changes just went live. Let me know if everything works as expected. I'll be updating the coordinate database for pswiki shortly! --Dschwen (talk) 20:48, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Interface administrator permissions removal[edit]

Hello Dschwen. I hope that this message finds you well. I am sorry, but since you have not made at least 10 global edits in the last six months, according to the the global contributions tool (from 20 September 2022 to 20 March 2023), I have removed your local interface administrator permissions per our current policy. Even though this is a purely procedural removal, if you wish to regain IA permissions again, you'll have to lodge a new request for permissions. Best regards, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 12:19, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
