This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia projects which do not have a local permissions procedure.

Old sections are archived. The list of archives is below.

 • Requests for bot flags are handled at SRB, and requests for global permissions are handled at SRGP.
 • If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).
 • For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel. In emergencies, type !steward in the channel to get the attention of stewards. Otherwise, you can type @steward for non-urgent help.

Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Using this page

1. Place the following code at the bottom of the appropriate section below:

Username@xxproject
(your remarks) ~~~~

2. Fill in the values:

 • domain: the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
 • user name: the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case you're requesting access for multiple bots, leave this field blank and give a list of these bots in your remarks
 • discussion: a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser"). This should normally be for at least one week, but no more than three weeks (if so, you'll need to restart the process).

3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Confirmation of signing confidentiality agreement

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to sign a confidentiality agreement. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also sign the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the Office.

dsvyas@gu.wikisource

Hi, I am sysop on gu.wikipedia. gu.wikisource.org has just been created today, and we would need some local admin/sysops there. So will appreciate if you could grant permissions to myself and User:Sushant savla as well as backup.--DhavalTalk 00:54, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please file requests so that the local community can vote on them, then reply here after a week that they have been running. If there is little or no response, which might be the case given it's a new project, you will be appointed as local admins for a temporary, renewable period of 6 months or so.  On hold for two weeks. The local request started earlier this day, no supporters yet! a×pdeHello! 19:44, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Why two weeks and not the customary one week? Snowolf How can I help? 05:29, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, we give one week to get a vote for temp sysop, regular sysop should have enough supporters and time to find those. Am I wrong? a×pdeHello! 12:13, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, but since we have two other rq's on this page regarding the same project, it would maybe be good to handle these three rq's in the same way. -- Lavallen (talk) 10:25, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This is a duplicate of a rq above. -- Lavallen (talk) 10:27, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lezgi Wikipedia has been created! I ask you to expand my admin status on the lezgi wikipedia so that I can still care about it. Thank you very much. --►Safir yüzüklü Ceklimesaj 12:48, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You should make a local request first. Also I wonder what do you want to do there, as you hardly edited the test project on Incubator. --MF-W 12:51, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The user has added a comment "for 3 months etc. (For the interim status of technical Administrator.)" in the wrong section, as I understand it, he's indicating that his request is for temporary sysop to help set up the wiki for 3 months. Snowolf How can I help? 05:28, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

CheckUser access

Steward requests/Permissions/CU-header

Oversight access

To request to have content oversighted, ask in #wikimedia-stewards, or email oversight-l@lists.wikimedia.org for requests regarding English Wikipedia. This is the place to request Oversight access. Note that temporary Oversight access is not permitted and the temporary status is only used by Stewards.

Stewards
Do not grant Oversight access unless the user is identified to the foundation, which will be announced on the Identification noticeboard. When you give someone oversight access, list them on Oversight.

Removal of access

<translate>

 • If you're requesting the removal of your own permissions, make sure you're logged in to your account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request (see previous discussion on 24 hour delays); the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.
 • To request the removal of another user's permissions, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, provide a link to the discussion, with a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. However, as bureaucrats of some wikis may remove users from the administrator or bureaucrat group, please see also a separate list of these specific wikis.
 • To request the removal of another user's permissions for inactivity, link to your local inactivity policy. If your site does not have inactivity policy, the global policy Admin activity review applies.
 • See the instructions above for adding new requests. Please post new requests at the bottom of the section.</translate>

Swift@en.wikibooks

I'm not seeing anything in the policy about the edits per 6 months, only about the one year thing. Snowolf How can I help? 07:25, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Done --FiliP ██ 07:28, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
To answer Snowolf - usual Wikibooks policy stuff - this isn't Wikipedia so you can't expect precision!
The two relevant sections from the policy page are in two separate paragraphs:
"Sysops who do not meet any activity expectations (detailed below), or those who break policy, or those who abuse their powers, can be nominated for de-adminship at the Wikibooks:Requests for permissions page."
"Administrators are expected to be active (see Sysop activity on Wikibooks). There are no hard and fast definitions on what it means to be "active" but a good guideline is to have at least 20 edits in the last year and 1 edit within the past month. Even this might not be enough, if administrator privileges have not been used (or not been used correctly) within the past year."
The reasonable interpretation of that is that inactivity is a combination of 20 edits in the last year AND 1 edit within the last month AND some use of the sysop bit in the last year.
Me, I don't care that much and have no problem letting Swift keep the bit forever. However, after a couple of emails and no response to the talk page I'm following normal practice of de-privileging accounts that may be at future risk of compromise due to an inactive owner. Cheers QU TalkQu 07:33, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As I understand it, the policy mandates automatic desysoppal without notification and need for consensus only for accounts completely inactive for one full year, which, with 11 edits during the past year, Swift is not. Now he's clearly inactive, hasn't used the tools in forever, etc., but my impression was that there was a requirement for consensus to remove for inactivity without the automatic clause ("Sysops who are especially inactive, specifically for at least one year or longer, can be removed without a consensus discussion."), which a simple notice by yourself without anybody else commenting on it clearly cannot fullfill. That said, as Dungodung clearly interprets the policy differently and has performed a desysop, it's a mute issue. Snowolf How can I help? 07:41, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I do think it is important actually. The smaller projects (and I'm sure this is generally true) haven't spent years and hundreds of editors contributions to writing policies that would stand up in a court of law. For this reason you do have to rely somewhat on previous interpretation of the policy instead of trying to create a new interpretation every time. In this case (and I got bored at three) you can see previous de-sysops one (...while this user was active as recently as September, they have made less than 20 edits in the past year and not used the tools in a year, fulfilling both definitions of inactivity according to the policy) and two (...the below administrators / bureaucrats have been inactive for one year or longer besides a few spare edits.) and three (...'Fewer than 20 edits in the last year, no edit in the last month. Admin tools used only once in the past year) as examples of previous application of the same policy. Two of these had one "supporter" only by the way which was me. It's pretty normal for nobody to oppose or support an inactivity de-sysop. Incidentally, we're probably going to need to tighten up a load of the policy wordings at WB simply because this issue of "intepretation" keeps coming up. Cheers QU TalkQu 08:06, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

odder@testwiki (and Meta)

Hi there!

 1. Please remove my sysop bit from test.wikipedia.org; I was given them to deal with the fundraising campaign for Wikimedia Polska, and now as my responsibilities have been taken over by Leinad (talk · contribs) and the campaign finishes, I will not need them anymore. I have cleaned up all test made on the wiki for the purposes of the campaign.
 2. Additionally, please remove my translationadmin rights here on Meta; I received them to help with setting up translations here, but due to my limited time and some real-life issues I would not be able to use them, and would like to focus on other aspects of my activities in the Wikimedia world.

Thanks, and have a good weekend :-) odder (talk) 23:02, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
