Autopatrolled

[edit]

Hi Abiyoyo, just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatroll right to your account, as you are a trustworthy user. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the patroller right, see Meta:Autopatrollers. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Ruy Pugliesi 15:39, 29 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Split up Vital articles:Expanded

[edit]

Do it! Though sometimes it means you get mixed up where you are, I think that's outweighed by loading times. Since I already agree with you, just do it boldly rightaway Purplebackpack89 22:22, 29 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I see you've started to add content...are we going to have the big discussion about what belongs and what doesn't soon? Purplebackpack89 01:57, 2 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
As there were objections to mechanical synchronizing, i've added content manually, checking articles section by section. The discussion is necessary, of course. I think we should start from defining quatas for specific sections. I will write a suggestion on the list talk page soon.--Abiyoyo 11:33, 2 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Fundraising translation feedback

[edit]

Hey Abiyoyo,

I wanted to ask for your help. As you may be aware we have been running banners on many language wikis. We have a lot of new content this year and I really want to conduct a thorough review of our translations. This is a combination of feedback from the community, readers, donors as well as those with professional translator experience. This will help us ensure the highest quality of translations used in our messaging.

To help us out with this I wonder if you would be willing to give us feedback for Russian using This Link

Simply follow the simple instructions on that page and if you have any questions feel free to contact me on my talk page.

Many Thanks

Community discussion on harassment reporting

[edit]

There are many current proposals as part of the 2015 Inspire Campaign related to harassment management. I’ve created a page, Grants:IdeaLab/Community discussion on harassment reporting meant to serve as a central space where the various stakeholders in these proposals and other community members can discuss which methods might serve our community best so that we can unify our ideas into collective action. I encourage you to join the conversation and contribute your ideas! OR drohowa (talk) 01:59, 22 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • Thank you, OR drohowa. I am interested in this as a wikipedia user and administrator, who has some experience with the problem. I can take part in the process, that you propose, however i do not yet understand the goals, process, etc. I mean, that I do not yet understand, how specifically i can be of use. It is very good, that you have creted this page, but maybe it would be even better, if you clarify explicitly some goals of the discussion on this page. --Abiyoyo (talk) 08:22, 22 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Inspire Campaign on content curation & review

[edit]

I've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia volunteers collaboratively manage vast repositories of knowledge, and we’re looking for your ideas about how to manage that knowledge to make it more meaningful and accessible. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.

All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is welcome - your skills and experience can help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign to improve review and curation tasks so that we can make our content more meaningful and accessible! I JethroBT (WMF) 05:38, 29 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.

Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,

Geolocation

[edit]

On mw:Talk:Universal Language Selector/Compact Language Links you wrote about geolocation. I agree that's a bit annoying, though only "public" information about your IP address is used (information that any website you visit has, sadly), but note that GeoIP has been enabled since 2009, mostly for Fundraising. Nemo 05:56, 29 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • Thanks for your response, Nemo! The website has my ip of course. Not only the website, but also some community members (checkusers, developers). That is important for project to operate. My concerns are not about privacy, rather about a kind of tendency in Wikimedia to 'humanize' user experience, to make Wikipedia 'sweet'. But knowledge is not sweet. Sometimes it is quite bitter. I do not know much about WM decisions taking, but i feel (maybe errroneously) that the WM goal is to increase pagevisits by showing to a visitor something 'cute', something he/she wants to see. It is an approach of Google, which shows not the objective and full result but something it decides is better for you, effectively hiding something 'inconvenient'. Maybe it can turn in more visitors in short-term. But it is a kind of retreat from basic WM values: giving the full knowledge and letting the reader (not the content provider) decide what suites him. In Wikipedia we have used to think, that we are making an alternative to biased prejudged and limited knowledge by giving the reader all points of view, even if this knowledge is inconvinient for him. Switching to something 'convenient' and 'sweet' is disrupting the motivation of the core community members, as it is contrary to the idea of full and npov knowledge. The issue itself (interwikis' selector) is not of a tremendous importance of course, but for me it is one of many signs of a shift towards something quite different from initial ideas of WM movement.--Abiyoyo (talk) 08:01, 29 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Presenting Community Engagement Insights survey report: Tuesday, October 10, 1600 UTC

[edit]

Hi Abiyoyo,
I am reaching out to you because you signed up to receive updates about the Global Wikimedia survey.[1]

We will be hosting a public event online to present the data, a few examples on how teams will be using it for annual planning, and what are next steps for this project. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 10, at 9:00 am PST (1600 UTC), and the presentation will be in English. You can watch the livestream here, and ask question via IRC on #wikimedia-office.

If you are unable attend, you can also find the report on meta, and watch the recording of the event at a later time.

We hope to have you join us online! -- María Cruz 23:28, 2 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

can you wait before filing a removal request? Thanks> --Artix Kreiger (Message Wall) 16:39, 29 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi, the request is not urgent in any way. I am really tired of 8 years of adminship with almost no actual possibility to deal with what i consider the biggest problem of local community - lack of collaboration and consensus on virtually anything which in turn renders impossible any decisive adminship and countering inconstructive behavior. The community needs freedom more than constructiveness. It is quite a choice for a community, but not for me. The request may be left on on hold for as long as stewards consider necessary as it is a long-thought decision. Anyway I can go through a new RfA in ruwiki in future.--Abiyoyo (talk) 17:33, 29 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

ah ok. I had thought it was out of anger and "rage" quit so I was just checking. --Artix Kreiger (Message Wall) 19:27, 29 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

New community space for IdeaLab on Connect

[edit]

Hi folks. If you're receiving this message, you've contributed to IdeaLab or an Inspire Campaign this year. Thanks for participating to develop ideas and review ones from other Wikimedians.

We are preparing some changes to IdeaLab and Inspire Campaigns. One of these changes is a new community space on Connect, where Wikimedians can find each other based on common activities or skills, and ask questions about the space. You are invited to join this community space for IdeaLab, especially if you would ever consider needing to find contributors with certain skills (like design or project management) or would like to offer your skills to others in our movement. To join, please proceed to Connect/IdeaLab and click on the "Add yourself" button on the right. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) 19:53, 21 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Inspire Campaign on Measuring Community Health

[edit]

Do you have an idea about how to measure the health of your community? Do you want to review ideas that others have submitted? Through August 10th, we are inviting ideas on how to capture the well-being of Wikimedia communities, in terms of matters like conflict resolution, effective content creation, and being able to contribute in a collaborative environment. Ideas can be focused on either quantitative techniques, such as gathering raw data, or qualitative techniques, like surveying contributors. If you are submitting an idea, guidance is available for how to move your idea into implementation, such as through a grant or starting a Phabricator task to engage with developers.

If you're interested, consider joining the Inspire Campaign. I JethroBT (WMF) 17:13, 13 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi all!

The community vote of this year's Board Elections are close. As always voter mails will be sent out. To invite as many community members as possible in their native tongue your help is very much appreciated. While there are already plenty of translations we would appreciate you to check for languages still missing and to contribute translations for these.

The mails are short, just a bit about two times 200 words, a few minutes of work.

Your support is very important as it helps communities to learn about the election and to cast their vote.

Best, Denis Barthel (WMF)
