Merci d'avance, Amicalement,

Jagwar 16:37, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikinews.fr, que peut-on faire ?[edit]

Bonjour,

Reg:Hindi wiki[edit]

Hi Yann, This is reg hindi wiki. As u r an admin there, & also connected with wikimedia, I thought that u may see the request better.
I am thinking of a program segment, that senses the logged in status of a member, & places a green dot on online, red on busy, yellow on idle & grey on offline, just like orkut/google/G-talk, etc & many more. Can we have this fac, atleast for the sysops' status. If you can direct this issue to right hands, so nice of you. 10:53, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hello,
I think that your proposition would be violating Wikimedia privacy policy, so I don't think it would be accepted, and is even a good thing. Regards, Yann 11:37, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So nice of you replying me,
But the things are quite different. As you might be aware about the Google, G-Talk & orkut, etc. The user holds an option to be invisible. That way, he appears to be grey (as if he is not online) while being very much online. Only when a user opts for Green status, the user is shown green. I think this suffice the solution for the privacy issue.--आशीष भटनागर 17:44, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm just wondering where your RFCU for meta is:

That's why I ask. CU#Meta lists you as having it for log access. But we don't do that any more - if there's a valid RFCU then you just get bumped into the regular section. But I haven't been able to find one.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 00:19, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What future IdeaLab campaigns would you like to see?[edit]

Hi there,

I’m Jethro, and I’m seeking your help in deciding topics for new IdeaLab campaigns that could be run starting next year. These campaigns aim to bring in proposals and solutions from communities that address a need or problem in Wikimedia projects. I'm interested in hearing your preferences and ideas for campaign topics!

Here’s how to participate:

Inspire Campaign on content curation & review[edit]

I've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia volunteers collaboratively manage vast repositories of knowledge, and we’re looking for your ideas about how to manage that knowledge to make it more meaningful and accessible. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.

All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is welcome - your skills and experience can help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign to improve review and curation tasks so that we can make our content more meaningful and accessible! I JethroBT (WMF) 05:38, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Open Call for Individual Engagement Grants[edit]

Greetings! The Individual Engagement Grants (IEG) program is accepting proposals until April 12th to fund new tools, research, outreach efforts, and other experiments that enhance the work of Wikimedia volunteers. Whether you need a small or large amount of funds (up to $30,000 USD), IEGs can support you and your team’s project development time in addition to project expenses such as materials, travel, and rental space.

With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources 15:57, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.

Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,

I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 17:46, 31 May 2016 (UTC) (Opt-out instructions)[reply]

Community Wishlist Survey votes[edit]

Hi Yann, Thanks for participating in the Wishlist Survey! I'm sorry that this wasn't clear -- this is the proposals phase of the survey, when people are posting and discussing proposals. The voting phase starts in a couple weeks, on November 28th. We're not counting votes that are cast early, because the proposals can change during this phase, and you might end up voting for something that changes in a way that you didn't expect. I've added some text at the top of the page, explaining this better.

I don't want people to see your Support votes and get confused, so I'm going to change the Support template in your message to "Good idea". If that response doesn't work for you, then feel free to change it. Sorry again about the confusion -- I'm really glad that you're participating. I hope you keep coming back to discuss and improve proposals, and you'll have a chance to vote starting on Nov 28th. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! -- DannyH (WMF) (talk) 19:02, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I'd like to remind you again that the voting phase has not started yet. Your input on individual proposals is most welcome, but the issue is by adding the Support Support template others may be mislead that it is a !voting survey. Thanks for your understanding! Copyright problem with File:Education and WGIG.pdf[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Education and WGIG.pdf. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at this page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Jusjih (talk) 03:33, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jusjih,
I think it is historically important, as it mentions Wikipedia. There is no real copyright issue, but it doesn't have a formal license. We should be able to keep such files somewhere. Regards, Yann (talk) 19:40, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Yann: I have read your grant proposal and found the idea of book scanning just great! Maybe this piece of information will help you: there is a professional book scanner in Zurich - in the library of UZH Deutsches Seminar (Schönberggasse 9, 8001 Zürich) - freely available for any library user. The machine is busy <20%, from my experience (scanned 10+ books already), and the scanning is absolutely free. I could provide the exact details of the model if needed... --Balabinrm (talk) 20:25, 1 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Balabinrm,
Thanks for your message. Actually most university libraries have a scanner. I know 2 of them which have one in Geneva. And Zurich is a bit far for me. ;) So I dropped the idea to buy a scanner for now. However I am still interested in partnerships with GLAMs for scanning books. Best regards, Yann (talk) 16:32, 2 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Interviewing you about Structured Data on Commons[edit]

Hi Yann,

Firstly, I should introduce myself. I'm Jonathan Curiel with the Wikimedia Foundation, and I'm helping to work on WMF's Structured Data on Commons project. At Wikimania in Montreal, I'm interviewing Commons users about the project, and I'd like to interview you. I'd ask about implementing structured data into Commons, interacting with structured data, how best to involve the community, and other questions. Would you have 30 minutes at Wikimania? I'd try and accommodate any time you have available there.

Thanks so very much for your consideration. Appreciate any time you have. And I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

New community space for IdeaLab on Connect[edit]

Hi folks. If you're receiving this message, you've contributed to IdeaLab or an Inspire Campaign this year. Thanks for participating to develop ideas and review ones from other Wikimedians.

We are preparing some changes to IdeaLab and Inspire Campaigns. One of these changes is a new community space on Connect, where Wikimedians can find each other based on common activities or skills, and ask questions about the space. You are invited to join this community space for IdeaLab, especially if you would ever consider needing to find contributors with certain skills (like design or project management) or would like to offer your skills to others in our movement. To join, please proceed to Connect/IdeaLab and click on the "Add yourself" button on the right. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) 19:53, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

(Opt-out instructions)

Do you have an idea about how to measure the health of your community? Do you want to review ideas that others have submitted? Through August 10th, we are inviting ideas on how to capture the well-being of Wikimedia communities, in terms of matters like conflict resolution, effective content creation, and being able to contribute in a collaborative environment. Ideas can be focused on either quantitative techniques, such as gathering raw data, or qualitative techniques, like surveying contributors. If you are submitting an idea, guidance is available for how to move your idea into implementation, such as through a grant or starting a Phabricator task to engage with developers.

If you're interested, consider joining the Inspire Campaign. I JethroBT (WMF) 17:14, 13 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A Translation Central is available to help translators figure out what's been covered and what's left to do. Over the course of the next few weeks, your attention on candidates' profiles is particularly welcome.

While there are four languages that are especially relevant for multiple affiliates (namely Arabic, French, Russian and Spanish), you can also add others. Invitation to affiliate members to complete a survey about WMF wide Universal Code of Conduct[edit]

Hello; My name is Mervat, and I am helping the Trust and Safety team to reach out to affiliates in order to discuss the Universal Code of Conduct.

There has been talks about the need for a global set of conduct rules in different communities over time, and finally, Wikimedia Foundation Board announced a Community Culture Statement, enacting new standards to address harassment and promote inclusivity across projects.Since the universal code of conduct that will be a binding minimum set of standards across all Wikimedia projects, will apply to all of us, staff and volunteers alike, all around the globe, and will impact our work as groups, individuals and projects, it’s of great importance that we all participate in expressing our opinions and thoughts about UCoC, its nature, what we think it should cover or include and what it shouldn’t include; how it may develop, drawback or help our groups.   This is the time to talk about it. As you are a valuable contributor to the Wikimedia movement, your voice counts.

Before starting to draft the code of conduct, we would like to hear from you; We invite you to devote some minutes to take this survey; your answers will help us create a safer environment for all on Wikimedia: (English): https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd36dNdU3C5shXEkKp9itJOhuCTx9hZE5AE-xflkxtfRMnZtg/viewform?usp=pp_url

It’s possible that you are a member of more than one affiliate; hence you may receive this survey more than once, and you may have participated previously in the discussions or filled out a previous survey during the first round of consultations about UCoC which targeted wikipedia/wikimedia communities. We apologize for this; it is really difficult to identify if a wikimedian belongs to multiple groups that work to spread free knowledge.

Looking forward to your thoughts and opinions and hoping that you can respond within the next 2 weeks. If you have any questions about the surveys or difficulties accessing the link, please contact me by email (msalman-ctr@wikimedia.org).

Results will be considered during the drafting process for the UCoC.

Thank you for your participation

Invitation to participate in Universal Code of Conduct survey - WikiWomen's User Group[edit]

(You are receiving this message as you signed your interest to participate as part of the WikiWomen's User Group)

Hello, my name is Mervat Salman, a UCoC Facilitator, Trust and Safety team.

As you know, the WMF Board of Trustees ratified the Universal Code of Conduct early in February. That's the beginning; the policy itself cannot be used if the enforcement pathways are not defined. The implementation and enforcement of the UCoC requires the continuous cooperation to define clear definitions of enforcement pathways and processes. This needs to be done in a way that does not contradict with the internal bylaws and codes of conduct currently in place, but rather to support them and complement their deficiencies, if any.

In this phase of the process, we would like to invite you to share your ideas, thoughts and concerns about the UCoC implementation, reporting and enforcement pathways using this survey:

Notice: This survey will be conducted via a third-party service, which may subject it to additional terms. For more information on privacy and data-handling, see the survey privacy statement <https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/UCoC_Affiliates_Survey_Privacy_Statement>.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact msalman-ctr@wikimedia.org.

Best regards,

Mervat (WMF) 17:01, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Quand vous écrivez look and feel, les outils d'administrateur me semblent inutiles. Cordialement. User page in Commons[edit]

I was banned by you on Wikimedia Commons for uploading non-free files in March 2019. But Elcobbola branded me as Hoa112008's sockpuppet while I found out that Hoa112008 joined in June... how confusing! (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Hoang42006).

Thanks for being able to edit your Commons profile with another template that says members are banned for non-free file downloads. I've been imagining him, haven't seen him say anything yet.--Hoang42006 (talk) 01:54, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Hoang42006: Hoa112008 joined on 25 June 2019. Elcobbola is a checkuser, but it is A.Savin who blocked you on Commons. However you will have to ask on your talk page on Commons if you want to be unblocked. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:03, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You banned me first, but A.Savin reshaped and banned in March a few days later. A.Savin has quit his job, he is no longer active. It's confusing to assign me to sockpoppet. I also talked about this with Elcobbola, said it was a mistake, but he must have forgotten to edit his profile on the commons. Thanks for being able to edit your Commons profile with another template that says members are banned for non-free file downloads (which makes more sense to me), no need for you to unblock.

Can you edit my commons user page template Template:Blocked user/en--Hoang42006 (talk) 03:02, 27 February 2022 (UTC)Hoang42006[reply]

Call For Volunteer Facilitators Across Africa [edit]

The African Narrative
The African Narrative

Dear Wikimedian,

The Africa Narrative is seeking volunteer facilitators in Egypt (two volunteers) and Senegal (two volunteers) for the AfroCreatives Wikiproject.

The AfroCreatives Wikiproject aims to support and mobilize creatives and professionals from the African creative sector, as well as enthusiasts more broadly, to contribute and enhance knowledge on Wikipedia about Africa’s creative economy. Its inaugural effort will target the film sectors of Egypt, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Senegal.

The Africa Narrative (TAN) is a non-profit that develops singular, high-impact initiatives in support of African creatives and the African cultural and creative industries with the aim to strengthen capacity in the continent’s creative economy and the global visibility of African cultural soft power.

All volunteers must have full professional proficiency in English. In Senegal, they must have native or full professional proficiency in French; in Egypt, they must have native or full professional proficiency in Arabic. Volunteer facilitators should have a vast knowledge about Wikimedia projects and experience with teaching new editors. All volunteers will be compensated.

Interested participants may sign up on the project's Meta page. You may also indicate your country and email if your Wikipedia account is not associated with any email address.

The Africa Narrative/Volunteers

We will be glad if you can share with or recommend an Egyptian or Senegalese Wikipedian as well.

Thank you.
