This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia projects which do not have a local permissions procedure.

Old sections are archived. The list of archives is below.

  • Requests for bot flags are handled at SRB, and requests for global permissions are handled at SRGP.
  • If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).
  • For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel. In emergencies, type !steward in the channel to get the attention of stewards. Otherwise, you can type @steward for non-urgent help.

Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Using this page

1. Place the following code at the bottom of the appropriate section below:

==== Username@xxproject ====
{{sr-request
 |status    = <!-- don't change this line -->
 |domain    = <!-- such as en.wikibooks -->
 |user name =
 |discussion=
}}
(your remarks) ~~~~

2. Fill in the values:

  • domain: the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
  • user name: the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case you're requesting access for multiple bots, leave this field blank and give a list of these bots in your remarks
  • discussion: a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser]]"). This should normally be for at least one week, but no more than three weeks (if so, you'll need to restart the process).

3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Confirmation of signing confidentiality agreement

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to sign a confidentiality agreement. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also sign the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the Office.

Administrator access

See Administrator for information about this user group.

  • MediaWiki interface translations are done at translatewiki.net. Please do not request administrator access solely for that purpose; your request will be declined.

  • Stewards: Please use {{Systmp}} for approved temporary requests.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

Please start a new discussion about requesting the permission on the local village pump, administrators' noticeboard or a designated page for requesting permissions each time you request or renew adminship.

  • Discussions should be open for seven days. Please request adminship here seven days after discussions started. This page is not the place for any discussions or votes. (For wikis with few active users, it is OK to have no comments.)
  • If you only want adminship for specific tasks, please state for how long and for which tasks you need it. Otherwise stewards will decide whether to assign permanent adminship and the duration of adminship. See Steward requests/Permissions/Minimum voting requirements.

RG72@eowiktionary

Hello! I have been working for Esperanto-Wiktionary since 2014, having created a number of articles like [1], [2], [3] and major lists like [4], [5] and I believe that this important project needs an administrator, which it has not had for many years.

I announced my candidacy on November 12 and have since received 10 votes in favor (one was later withdrawn due to a smear campaign launched by former administrator Taylor79, who was deprived of this status by decision of the stewards due to endless conflicts and arbitrariness), 4 votes against. For this reason, please, promote me to administrator position.RG72 (talk) 16:36, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

 On hold Per removal request below. -- Amanda (she/her) 19:20, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Note that I checked this project a lot in the last 2 years and I didn't notice a lot of active users there! Some of voters never edited there. Is there an explanation for this (like notifying them on social or on another projects)? Thanks. Superpes15 (talk) 00:16, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Interface administrator access

See Interface admin for information about this user group.

  • If you are requesting adminship and the interface admin at the same time, you can file one request in administrator section and state you want interface adminship as well.
  • MediaWiki interface translations are done at translatewiki.net. Please do not request interface administrator access solely for that purpose; your request will be declined.
  • Since the end of 2018, all interface administrators are required to have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. Please, enable it before posting your request here.

  • Stewards: Please use {{Systmp}} for approved temporary requests.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

Please start a new discussion about requesting the permission on the local village pump, administrators' noticeboard or a designated page for requesting permissions each time you request or renew interface adminship.

Bureaucrat access

See Bureaucrat for information about this user group.
  • In principle, requests for temporary bureaucrat access are not granted.
  • A small project does not need bureaucrats. Currently whether a promotion is valid or not is decided by stewards. See here for a guideline.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

CheckUser access

See CheckUser policy for information about this user group and the policy governing the use of this tool.
  • To request CheckUser information, see Steward requests/Checkuser. This is the place to request CheckUser access.
  • One-time CheckUser access is not permitted and temporary access is only used by Stewards or when the mandate of the CUs has an expiry date specified in local policies.

Oversight access

See Oversight policy for information about this user group and the policy governing the use of this tool.
  • To request to have content oversighted, ask for a steward in #wikimedia-stewardsconnect and contact a steward privately. This section is for requesting access to the Oversight tool.
  • For contact details about oversighters across the wikis, refer to this page.
  • Note that temporary Oversight access is not permitted and temporary status is only used by Stewards .

  • When a new user is assigned to this group, please add them to this list.

Miscellaneous requests

Requests for permissions that don't fit in other sections belong here. Importer rights can be granted on most wikis by stewards only. Please gain local community consensus before posting a new section here.

Note that the following types of permissions requests belong on separate pages:

  • SRB — Local or global bot status
  • SRGP — Global permissions

@ZhuofanWu ganwiki does not have any transwiki sources configured except incubator, have you started a phab request to empower this? — xaosflux Talk 12:48, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Xaosflux:I have started a local discussion about the sourse. Maybe we should wait for some time. Zhuofan WuWhere? 14:29, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ZhuofanWu: we can keep this on hold for now, please reply back (feel free to mention me) here with the phab ticket when the discussion is created and your phab request is opened. If there are only a very small number of imports needed one time, we could just do them for you as well; if you prefer that route just post at Global sysops/Requests. — xaosflux Talk 16:20, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of access

  • If you're requesting the removal of your own permissions, make sure you're logged in to your account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request (see previous discussion on 24 hour delays); the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.
  • To request the removal of another user's permissions, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, provide a link to the discussion, with a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. However, as bureaucrats of some wikis may remove users from the administrator or bureaucrat group, please see also a separate list of these specific wikis.
  • To request the removal of another user's permissions for inactivity, link to your local inactivity policy. If your site does not have inactivity policy, the global policy Admin activity review applies.
  • See the instructions above for adding new requests. Please post new requests at the bottom of the section.

RG72@eowiki

A ballot for removal of his sysop rights has yet occured right now. RG72 received 10 voices for removal and 5 voices aganist removal. The cases are politically motivated abuse of adminship and harrasment aganist Taylor 49. The request was made on Nowember 25th. Following our rules, the request will be submitted after two weeks:so on December 9th.--Fenikals (talk) 12:07, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
On hold So let's wait another day per your policy before proceeding! Let me say a personal thought: if the request is motivated with harrasments or abuses on wiki (I saw something on eowikt, even if this is another project, with the same involved users), it's fine, but I think that no one should be judged for a political motivation on wiki (obviously I am not referring to the case in question which concerns politically motivated abuse). Here we are all users, and we should evaluate our work on wiki stuff, and tbh I don't like to see external social-media links on a request for a deflag. If someone is a political POV-pusher, just link the edits, there's no need to highlight a person's political beliefs. Thanks --Superpes15 (talk) 13:39, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A small note that will help you understand the reasons and context of what is happening. A few months ago, Fenikals wrote a denunciation of me to Global Voices [6], an international journalistic project in which I take part as a translator. He said that I had the wrong views on events in Ukraine, and therefore I should be excluded from the project. The administration of this liberal project, which clearly and consistently supports the position of the Ukrainian government, nevertheless responded that political views are a personal matter of the participant, and expulsion can only follow for violating the rules - and since I did not break any rules, I will not be expelled.
After that, he regularly sent me spam via Telegram (I don’t know where he found my account), in which he demanded to explain my political position, threatened me with Western sanctions, FSB reprisals, or simply asked strange questions that cast doubt on his adequacy.
Apparently, without waiting for the promised reprisals against me, he began an attack against me in all wiki projects. He openly cited my political views as the reason why I should be revoked as an administrator (the first link leads to my Facebook page [7]). He made similar statements on Wikinews, Wiktionary, and perhaps elsewhere.
Realizing that it would not be easy to remove a person who has been working flawlessly on Wikipedia, Wikimedia, Wiktionary, Wikinews and other projects for 15 years, and has never been accused of political propaganda or abuse of administrator rights, he mobilized users who were also exclusively interested in my political issues to vote.
Besides him, the main participants in this persecution were the open xenophobe Goren, who had previously attacked me (and others) on Telegram (his typical statements: “he’s just a nasty Russian” [8] (about me), “I’m pissing on your face, nasty Russian” [9] – in Esperanto "rusaĉo" is like "nigger" about the Russians) and politically motivated and psychologically unstable Taylor79, who was removed from Wiktionary as a Wiktionary Administrator several years ago by the stewards due to his endless conflicts with members, massive edits and deletions that turned Wiktionary into his personal playground. Having lost his administrator status, he demanded that the Esperanto-Wiktionary be completely eliminated.
So far they have not provided a single (!) evidence that I abused administrator rights. A number of participants paid attention to this, but fanatics and xenophobes are not interested in the rules. Thus, we are talking about political persecution organized by a bunch of fanatics and xenophobes. For your information. RG72 (talk) 14:49, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification. I would like to understand also if there is some clear policy with requirement, I saw some vote (supporting the deflag) made by users who were inactive for years. Anyway, we should evaluate the consensus, even if the whole issue is a bit weird imho Superpes15 (talk) 22:52, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There are no rules about users activity in Esperanto Wikipedia.--Fenikals (talk) 08:00, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Collapsing discussion with also off-topic comments --Superpes15 (talk) 09:03, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please see above how RG72 cannot stop harassing and insulting me:
  • RG72 persists deliberately using male pronouns despite well knowing that I am not male
  • politically motivated and psychologically unstable Taylor79
    unacceptable personal attack
  • turned Wiktionary into his personal playground
wrong pronoun and false accusation, note that RG72 in turn turned eo wikinews into eir personal bolshevistic playgound (example, example)
  • he demanded that the Esperanto-Wiktionary be completely eliminated
wrong pronoun and false accusation, see phab:T283143
When processing this request, please close also eowikt.
Taylor 49 (talk) 18:20, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize for this chaos, but this is how Tylor79 works - his thoughts go in circles all the time and consist in the fact that everyone around him is attacking, blaming, persecuting him.
I explained to him many times that there is no third gender in Esperanto, and even gave him a reference to classical grammar, which explicitly states: “When talking about a person whose gender is unknown or when talking in general about a person of uncertain gender, “he” is traditionally used" [10]. In 2021, the Esperanto Academy officially refused to recognize neutral pronouns and stated that at least for the next 10 years this issue would not even be considered [11]. However, Taylor79 stubbornly demands that he be called some kind of made-up words, and everyone who does not want violating language norms for the sake of his whims accuses him of persecution and insults.
Accusations of “Bolshevik propaganda” clearly demonstrate his psychological state and level of literacy. The first article is an interview with a Siberian historian, a veteran of the special services, who talks about how terrorist attacks (airplane hijackings, hostage-taking, etc.) were prevented in the Tyumen region. The second publication is a report on the fate of Ukrainian refugees and how they are starting a new life in Siberia. Only a person who does not understand the meaning of either the word “Bolshevik” or the word “propaganda” can call this “Bolshevik propaganda.” And this is a man who was an administrator of Wiktionary (fortunately deprived of this status by the stewards) and continues to make massive edits to it.
As for Taylor's tantrums, I'll just give a few examples of his reaction to comments from other Wiktionary editors: "In Russia, people with different opinions always face not only blocking, but most often also prison, torture and murder. I'm not blocking you only because I am not as prone to violence as you are, but I leave this completely spoiled discussion" [12]; “Please calm down and stop attacking me (your president’s aggressiveness is more than enough, isn’t it?)” [13], “Please stop telling me as if you are a KGB or NKVD employee, and I am your prisoner” [14] etc etc.
Once again I apologize. The Esperanto community is very tolerant of strange people, sometimes even too tolerant. A month ago, I put forward my candidacy as Wiktionary administrator, many supported me and, apparently, this provoked a new attack of aggression from Taylor79. I hope this goes away. RG72 (talk) 10:21, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
5 hours before applying for adminship, you made a rude threat on my talk page. You applied for adminship for a special purpose: banning the "ideological enemy" of yours. You clearly stated that you intend to abuse the rights you were asking for. The long text above by RG72 is just a brutally hard evidence of how RG72 thinks, "works", and acts. Taylor 49 (talk) 15:06, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
An explanation for those who do not know the context and do not read Esperanto. As I said, Taylor79 removed all translations from a number of Wiktionary articles I wrote. When I asked him to restore them, he first stated that those who needed them could find them... in the history of the relevant articles. After I explained that this was completely absurd, he moved them to other articles, but since he eliminated or renamed almost all the templates in Wiktionary, many translations lost their language designations and became labeled as "unknown language codes." I repeatedly reminded him to fix the problem he created, but to no avail.
Here is a literal translation of my “rude remark” that Taylor79 complains about: “When will you clean up the consequences of your damage? There are still 16 “unknown” language codes in the article “edzo”, a consequence of your vandalism. Same in other articles. You yourself will you eliminate the consequences of your vandalism or will someone else have to do it? Do you understand that vandalism is punishable by blocking?"
And yes, if vandalism is an ideology, then vandals are my “ideological enemies” with whom I will always fight, no matter as an ordinary user or administrator. I hope the stewards will take part in this “ideological struggle”. RG72 (talk) 15:40, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
On Esperanto wiktionary only lemmas in Esperanto are supposed to have translations, like on Swedish wiktionary only lemmas in Swedish are supposed to have translations. Again, RG72's complaints are rude (plus deliberately using male pronouns ...) and lack substance. Also, for those "who do not know the context": the Esperanto wiktionary was desperately broken back in 2017. No category structure, no templates, no definitions, just pirated stuff. Taylor 49 (talk) 17:38, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please note that we cannot discuss the request on its merits here, the only thing we can do is evaluate the local consensus. This page is reserved for the request to stewards and it's not a place for discussions. It's not permitted to discuss on this service page, thank you for your understanding! --Superpes15 (talk) 09:03, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
