Hello !

If you want to tell me :

 • about Wikipedia, click here
 • about Wiktionary, click here
 • about an other Wikimedia project, please add a new section at the end of this page.
 • If you have been blocked with the reason Cross-wiki spam: spambot, it is likely to be an error. Please add a new topic to this page to request your unblock.

Xtrawine

I am Gac from it.wiki. I am not sure to anderstand your request. User Xtrawine has no contributes in it:wiki; I check the IP number and normal CU. So what do you want? Can I send it by mail? Are we sure that is not against privicy? Tell me, please :-) Regards --Gac 05:33, 2 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello Gac. If you've already check the guy, the best would be to simply compare the data with the thread concerning spambots on the Checkuser mailing list. If you feel that the user is confirmed, simply post the data (on the CheckUser mailing list, not elsewhere of course). But if it is an error, just leave the account and forget it. It may be an error, because I've not seen spambots going to itwiki right now, but I asked you to check because it was created at the same time, and the user name is really similar to other known spambots (see for example [1]). Thanks for your help. -- Quentinv57 (talk) 06:15, 2 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

GR request of Orashmatash

Hi Quentinv57. "The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration no less than 5 days." You closed the request of Orashmatash after not even 3 days... (But ehm, don't revert your action, but please be a bit more cautious next time.) Kind regards, Trijnsteltalk 18:35, 5 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hey. Oh, apologies, I did not found this sentence. I remembered there was a delay, and search for it in some GR-related pages but could not find it again. Plus I thought that it was 4 days and that the discussion already last not three but four days. I will write this more explicitly in the Global rollback page. Again, apologies. -- Quentinv57 (talk) 18:48, 5 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Global rollback for DARIO SEVERI

Hello Quentinv57

Thank for your explanation about what I should do for getting the global rollbacker permission. I will wait to get more experience. I would like to note that Snowolf made a small mistake as he said “none of the wiki have entrusted him with the rollback rights”...I am entrusted with a Rollback Rights in the Portuguese Wikipedia.

Sincerely

DARIO SEVERI (talk) 06:42, 6 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Some wikis don't have a rollback status, so it does not really mean something. To my mind, the problem is more that you don't have enough cross-wiki experience now. If you can come to IRC and join the SWMT, that will make your work easier I think. There are lots of tools related to cross-wiki issues there, and also a really kind community that can help you if you have a problem. Regards, -- Quentinv57 (talk) 07:10, 6 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Actually the user is right, I was wrong in claiming the user doesn't have rollback, he clearly does as seen here, however I used sulinfo to check and it's not listed there, not sure what is causing it. Snowolf How can I help? 07:13, 6 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry, Snowolf. One more time, if the Toolserver databases are not updated properly, my tool can't guess that there are status if they are absent from the database... This is probably due to the replication lag of some databases ? -- Quentinv57 (talk) 07:18, 6 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
I just checked what the database said, and it confirms that the problem comes from here :
mysql> SELECT user_id FROM user WHERE user_name="DARIO SEVERI";
+---------+
user_id
+---------+
915895
+---------+
1 row in set (0.29 sec)

mysql> SELECT ug_group FROM user_groups WHERE ug_user=915895;
+--------------+
ug_group
+--------------+
autoreviewer
+--------------+
1 row in set (0.18 sec)

Global flag for my bot

Until now I only made editions with my bot in spanish wikipedia (I have flag of course and more than 272.417 editions [2]) but now I want to run my bot for fix interwikis in all languages. I made the request in de, fr, gl, en, pt, sl and eu and I'm waiting for aprovals. I have to make the request for every language or there is a way for ask for a bot flag in all languages in bulk? I will wait for your answer here es:Usuario Discusión:Kizar. Thank you. --Kizar (talk) 21:10, 6 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I see that you've opened a request. I know your bot has 200k+ edits, but that's not the only prerequisite to apply for a global bot status. You must have some experience dealing with interwiki links cross-wiki. That's why I would advise you to wait some more months, and to request bot flags on biggest wikis during this time. Anyway, the global bot flag will only have an effect on the smallest wikis, and not on the biggest ones. So that's not a lack of time if you wait and apply on other wikis during this time. -- Quentinv57 (talk) 06:08, 7 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your reply. I will run "interwiki.py -auto" without modifications, I think I have enough experience for that. I requested local flags in the 10 bigest wikipedias and I think it will be aproved soon but the main reason for request a global flag is I will make the most editions in "an, oc, ast, ext, eu and gl". In eu and gl I requested the local flags but the others are too small to do that. Btw, in eu there are unattended requests with several months.[3] --Kizar (talk) 18:04, 7 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
No, the size of the community does not prevent a botflag to be granted. On smallest wikis (without bureaucrats), you can ask stewards to grant the bot flag. If some requests there have not been handled, it's only because the bot owners never came to see a steward to ask for the permission changes. It's not that we are lazy, but we cannot check every 800+ projects to ensure that there is no request that has not been handled...
Then, I'm sorry but using pywikimediabot is no more a good argument to me. I can give you a recent example, just check the section named Rezabot just two sections above in my user talk page. Thanks for your understanding. -- Quentinv57 (talk) 07:12, 8 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
I understand. I will request local flags in more important projects but I need your help again... [4] --Kizar (talk) 10:25, 9 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

CheckUser on mediawikiwiki

Hi Quentin. Please see https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?diff=3820862. I removed your CheckUser rights there too. Regards, Trijnsteltalk 21:28, 9 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Ow, and by the way, you still have CU rights on zhwiki, in case you didn't notice. Trijnsteltalk 07:58, 10 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I did notice. Excuse me, Trijnstel, but yesterday I was busy and had to quit though the CU request was not complete. I was returning now to finish my work, but apparently now the SRCU is closed. I don't see where is the problem, but if there is one I can also handle requests only if I'm absolutely sure to be able to finish the same day. As for the CheckUser bit at zhwiki, I think we already discussed it. You know, I'm always willing to help Wikimedia projects with my free time. But the means stewards have to do their work are already inadequate, please don't be so punctilious. Regards, -- Quentinv57 (talk) 08:15, 10 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Jasper Deng asked me on IRC if I knew more about that CU request and that you still had the rights. I checked and noticed you checked everything, which is why I closed the SRCU yesterday. And yes, I know you're always willing to help - so do I - but I don't like seeing people having CU rights longer than a day. Trijnsteltalk 08:38, 10 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Quentinv57, can you handle my CU request at SRCU#Crazy_daisuke.40zhwikip? Many thanks. --Kegns 10:34, 13 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello Kegns. Marco Aurelio commented your request. I'm not sure we can perform such checks because it forces us to reveal the IP of this user. As Marco said, if the IP is having a bad behaviour simply block it. Regards, -- Quentinv57 (talk) 11:01, 13 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Talk:Spam blacklist archive frequency needs to be increased probably

Hello Quentin. Due to the template inclusion size restriction (as Trijnstel said at WM:RFH) probably WM:SPAM needs to be archived with more frequency, if at all possible and the bot supports it. Otherwise I'll do it like in the old times by hand :-). Regards. — MA (audiencia) 18:00, 4 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sure I can do that for you :-). For now, my bot only archives requests marked as done where the last answer was posted more than three days ago. By default, the page is edited only if there is at least two requests to be archived or 4000 bytes removed from the page. Do you think that changing the delay for the last message to one day would be sufficient ? Kind regards, -- Quentinv57 (talk) 18:57, 4 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Changing username

Hello Emperyan, I will echo Trijnstel's voice here. One small addition though, we can also rename in you in wikis which have bureaucrats, but no active ones. :-) — T. 15:05, 13 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Account Recovery

I saw that my account is globally locked, and I am not able to enter the same password that I used, I have no email registered to that account to retrieve. I would like to know how can I access my account to be able to defend myself from accusations that are against me. Thank you!. 177.105.228.238 19:08, 24 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Your account has been globally locked because it has been used to vandalize several Wikimedia projects. Also, you have used multiple accounts (for example, WZARTER) to bypass blocks and to continue to make a terrible mess on these projects. As a result, the account won't be unlocked. My personal advise would be just to create a new account, this one won't be blocked if you use it to contribute to Wikimedia projects constructively. Cordially, -- Quentinv57 (talk) 06:29, 27 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Ratiopol

Je l'ai plutôt ajouté à Requests for new projects. Ainsi, il aura l'avis de la communauté, et si son projet a réellement peu de chances d'aboutir la discussion sera close à ce moment là. En tout cas, merci de ton message, et à bientôt ! ;) -- Quentinv57 (talk) 06:38, 27 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

About Unypoly@kowiki

Hello! I really want to provide some information, but I cannot do that, sadly. As you know, 클레이모어208, E.J.HAM is different group. It is expected thing, Because He can use many and different IP range. It is not Open proxy, astonishingly.. I don't know PC room(Korean: 피시방, PC방) and Internet Plaza exist in your culture. He use PC room computers. Therefore, He can have many IP, range, even different ISP. He change his account and IP speedily, Checkuser log and request about him don't be taken in kowiki (Final checkuser is 2 years ago, perhaps). His account list is Steward_requests/Global/2012-09#Global_lock_for_Unypoly, Steward_requests/Global/2012-09#Global_lock_for_Unypoly.27s_more_puppet_accounts. It is all.. Hello Quentinv57! I would like to ask you to check the status of user Andrux in the English Wikipedia. The thing is that I use an account with similar name in most of Wikipedias (mainly in Ukrainian) through the activation of global account. However, the English was not available, thus, I have created another account (Andrux7) to be able to edit in English. In this way, I should log in/out every time, which is not very funny )) Moreover, there is no evidence that any other user Andrux actually exists. "global user pages (requested by user))"

Hi,
I have made edits in over 200 languages. Content edits or interwikis. After I have made an actual contribution to that project, then I may create a user page for myself, where I normally say in Babel-ese: I don't speak your Himalayan language; I speak English.
And that is all.
And only after I made a *real* contribution to the project.

But there are these assholes, pricks, self-centred fucks, whatever you want to call them, who go around creating 300 distinct user pages that say nothing but "If you want to contact me [and why would I want to contact this stupid jackass?] then come to my main page in Mongolian."

And here you are, enabling these assholes by creating pages for these bastards everywhere.

Pissed off in polyglot-land, Varlaam (talk) 16:08, 26 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

I issue the Welcomes in my project, and you are *ordering* me to waste *my* time on these morons.
Every time one of these bastards shows up, he inevitably needs to tell me through Babel that he is hu-3, sw-1 and wxyz-0.
And you are telling me to create Template:User wxyz-0 to support this bloody (ab)user??

Mysterious Usurper

Bonjour Quentin, I started to use MediaWiki last month to implement a server at my company. I have made some code enhancements to a couple of plugins and decided to join the MediaWiki developers group. I have used the short account name 'townsen' for many years now, and so I went to register that as a global account.

I found that it was already taken recently (user id 15159519) - in fact on November 5th, which is around the time I began this work (coincidence?). The user in question has two edits on Wikipedia and an entry on WikiMedia and nothing else, the edits seem to be completely random.

Meantime I registered myself as nick.townsend to apply for developer access. I would like to know where the usurper logged in (I cannot believe that the other account is genuine!) and how I can acquire this global userid. Then what steps must I take to rename my current id to that one?

Merci, Nick Townsend

Dear Nick,
Our privacy policy forbides us to reveal private data about users. So I'm sorry but we can't tell you where the user logged in and who he is.
But you can anyway request an usurpation on the english Wikipedia, even if I'm not sure that this will be accepted because the account was created quite recently. Did you try to contact the user ? Probably he'll agree to take another username if you ask him kindly on his user talk page ?

Question

Hi Quentin. I have a question regarding QuentinvBot's operation over SRAT. What is the frequency that the bot uses to remove entries marked as "removed" or "extended"? Just a question because I've been marking some with the syntax but are still on the page. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong? Thank you. Best regards. -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 22:59, 29 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I think that the problem is the dot, as my bot tests if there is exactly "extended" or "removed" in bold. I guess that if he finds "removed." it's not okay. I agree it's not that flexible, but it's not hurting much too... I've changed it, let's see what happends ;) -- Quentinv57 (talk) 07:14, 30 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Re: Spam abusefilter

Which one are you talking about? In lots of them I see no or few valid recent hits, instead there're some false positives. Many of those filters were created to fight against some specific types of spam (possibly from a botnet or a large number of open proxies). Since they stopped and the number of false positive increased, and to reduce resource usage, I disabled them. Liangent 13:02, 7 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Global ban of Fête

I appreciate your following through steward conventions to revert Fai's edit on my user talk page, but I don't personally find him offensive so I've restored the comment. Fai/Fête is stubborn at times but from my experience of him on enwiki and zh-yuewiki I wouldn't agree with an indefblock. A few of us admins at zh-yuewiki actually valued his vocal opposition of many policies and conventions there. He is yet another case which makes me believe in local whitelisting of globally blocked users. Deryck C. 16:26, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Deryck Chan. Fête was globally blocked because of cross-wiki disruption. You can check yourself, and you will see that he has a long block history on most of the projects. He was warned many times and ignored warnings instead of giving explanations. As you may have seen, when I lock his new sockpuppets, I revert his user talk page because he is used to harrass users. You probably don't care about his messages, but I can certify you that some users do (you may find an example here).
However, I did not block him for ever, but until July. As I told him he is free to return if he stops disruption. There is also no problem if a project wants to bypass this block locally : just show me admin consensus and I'll do the necessary to let him edit locally. No problems to allow him to contribute to a specific wiki if there is no problem there. Best regards, -- Quentinv57 (talk) 17:54, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm not entirely convinced about the "until July" part - the global block log I see appears to be an indefblock. Deryck C. 01:39, 10 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
The global block on his IP is until 3 July 2013. As for the user accounts he created, they have been locked, and stewards do not have the technical possibility to put a delay on it. An account can't be globally blocked, and can't be temporarily locked. If you have any other question, feel free to ask. Regards, -- Quentinv57 (talk) 08:52, 10 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
The discussion over there w:zh-yue:WP:AN#User:Fête is heading towards keeping a ban for "a while", duration unspecified except for an explicit upper bound of 6 months. To that effect, I think all we'll request is that you do remember to lift his global block on 3 July, and notify Fête then that he is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia again. Deryck C. 12:30, 14 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
The global block is set to expire on July anyway... I'll do my best to remember sending him a mail to tell him he's welcome to edit again. Anyway, I do think he will come back himself ;). Regards, -- Quentinv57 (talk) 12:37, 14 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi. At the time I'm writting, you are blocked locally on 17 WMF projects. Moreover, it's apparently not the first time you appology. By consequence I'm not comfortable to unblock here, because I don't want this vandalism to spread to the projects where you are currently still not blocked locally. Archiving bot

Hey, Quentin. Would you be interested in running a bot on pt.wiki for archiving our block requests page? We still do it manually. We can do it in other requests pages too if it works fine.

We mark each answered request like this, so it can be archived (example of archive). In a discussion related, was raised the possibility to leave an answered request on page for a day and only after that it would be archived. Is it possible?

What do you think?—Teles «Talk to me ˱@ L C S˲» 06:14, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Of course, it's possible and I would be really happy to help you. However, I'm really really busy at the moment and already have thousands of things to do for Wikimedia when I'll have some time IRL. So I can do it if you give me a delay, if it's urgent I'm sorry I can't do this right now... -- Quentinv57 (talk) 08:05, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Awesome, Quentin! It is not really urgent. There is an ongoing discussion, but that I think it is not controversial that we could use a bot. I just brought that to know what is possible and what is not (especially the delay on archiving per request). Take your time and if you need any info, please, tell me. Regards.—Teles «Talk to me ˱@ L C S˲» 22:16, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Looks like we have consensus to use a bot for this purpose. Please, tell me if you still want to help us and what would you need from me or community to do it. Thanks.—Teles «Talk to me ˱@ L C S˲» 00:26, 5 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi Teles. For sure, I still want to help you but it's just a matter of time. The thing is that I should move my bots from the Toolserver to the WMF Labs but this is just going to take a while. However, if you really need it quickly, I still could do this right now, but I won't have enough time to monitor what the bot will do once launched, so can you please check it from time to time ? Regards, -- Quentinv57 (talk) 07:22, 5 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
It is not urgent. We can keep archiving manually. It is just boring. Would be nice if you could tell us when do you think you can run it approximately, so community will know how much time we will need to wait. Do you have an idea?—Teles «Talk to me ˱@ L C S˲» 07:50, 6 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
I know that if I don't do it right now there will be a big delay (some months at least). Just tell me exactly what has to be archived (providing some diffs would make it easier for me) and I'll take some time to do it.
The main questions are :
 • Which pages do you need to archive ? Where ?
 • How does the bot know that a thread is done ? There must be some templates (or at least patterns) that are always in a thread that has to be archived and never in a thread that has not to be archived (for example : {{status|done}} for a steward request).
 • How long should the request stay on the page ? (time after the last comment)
 • How much requests should wait the bot to archive ? You may not want the bot to edit the pages if there is only one request to archive. By the way you can also set a maximum size, which will override this number of requests to archive (I had to do it for the steward's requests for global permissions, as some had a really big size and had to be archived solo).
Quentinv57 (talk) 08:50, 6 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Quentin! I will try to answer your questions.
1. Pages to be archived: pt:Wikipédia:Pedidos/Bloqueio (archive of February, of March, yet to be created).
pt:Wikipédia:Pedidos/Proteção - Archive of February, of March, yet to be created.
It is all the same for pt:Wikipédia:Pedidos/Restauro, pt:Wikipédia:Pedidos/Desproteção, pt:Wikipédia:Pedidos/Guerras de edição, pt:Wikipédia:Pedidos/Páginas protegidas. Their archive title follow the same pattern: Wikipédia:Pedidos/<variable name>/Arquivo/<year>/<month>
2. We use a template on answered requests (diff or diff). Will the bot recognize both of them or should we use only one way?
3. Request should remain on page for 24 hours after last comment.
4. I'm not sure about this one... perhaps I should ask community. But, well, I think the bot can wait for ten requests before archiving? We have less than ten requests each day, which may vary. A single request is never too much big, so I don't think we should set a maximum. Those are not exactly talk pages; only requests and evidence that supports (or not) the block. So, sections tend not to be too large.
I hope I didn't miss anything. If there is anything left, please let me know. Btw, I think a bot flag wouldn't be required, right? Thanks a lot!—Teles «Talk to me ˱@ L C S˲» 09:37, 9 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Expire date

Hello, you removed some rights from Wikidata users, who's rights haven't expired yet. I think that we should wait until they actually expires (I mean the expire date). --Stryn (talk) 09:20, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Stryn. Are you sure ? It's written on their confirmation page Admin right to be removed.... -- Quentinv57 (talk) 09:22, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but rights should be removed after three months, not any days before. That's ok for all. I think that we don't have any rules about it (at least I don't find, only this), but I think it's fair to wait until three months has gone. This has been done in the past also. --Stryn (talk) 09:36, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
OK thanks, I understand it. I did this based on the fact that these people don't have anymore the support of the community to hold adminship rights. Anyway, next time I will wait for the term of 3 months to expire. Do I need to give adminship back for the remaining three days ? Regards, -- Quentinv57 (talk) 09:55, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Well, don't put rights back, because of this. Maybe everyone agree this, regards --Stryn (talk) 09:56, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Steward requests/Checkuser archiving query

Hi, 3 requests were archived: http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Steward_requests%2FCheckuser&diff=5242648&oldid=5240073, but the Collingwood request had an active question which was pending response. Could this please be un-archived? Sincerely, James -- Jtneill - Talk 05:03, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi. The request was archived because it was marked as "done" and there was no answers for more than a week. I don't think somebody would have answered, even if the request would have stayed some months more... Moreover, you are asking for private information, which I would personally not deliver as a steward. But maybe others see things differently, so I invite you to ask directly on the Steward's noticeboard, where you'll be more lucky to get an answer. Sorry for bother you, but I don't understand what means unattached accounts and why, after changing my name from Nini00 to DocElisa, en:WP and fr:WP are unattached. Thank you. Regards, DocElisa (talk) 15:15, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi DocElisa. You have a unified account among every WMF projects, which means that once you created an account on one WMF project, you have an account on every WMF wikis. So when you log in on a project, you are automatically logged in everywhere. If you need some more info on this, please visit this page.
In your situation, what I would advise to attach the accounts to your global account is to visit the special page Special:MergeAccount once logged in, and follow the steps of the assistant. If you need any more help, feel free to ask. -- Quentinv57 (talk) 09:43, 17 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi. This comes from the Toolserver database itself, and I'm not able to fix it myself. Generally it takes a short delay to be repaired, it should be working in some hours if you try too. Regards, -- Quentinv57 (talk) 09:33, 2 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
