Requests and proposals Steward requests (Permissions) latest archive
This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia projects which do not have a local permissions procedure.

Old sections are archived by a bot. Click here for a list of archives.

  • If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).
  • For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel. In emergencies, type !steward in the channel to get the attention of stewards. Otherwise, you can type @steward for non-urgent help.

Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Confirmation of signing confidentiality agreement[edit]

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to sign a confidentiality agreement. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also sign the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the Office.

Administrator access[edit]

See administrator for information about this user group.

  • MediaWiki interface translations are done at translatewiki.net. Please do not request administrator access solely for that purpose; your request will be declined.

  • Stewards: Please use {{Systmp}} for approved temporary requests.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

For permanent adminship, please provide a link to the local community approval. For temporary adminship please state for how long and for which tasks you need it, and link to a local announcement.

Tiven2240@mrwikisource[edit]

Kindly find the link above and grant Administrator and Interface/Technical Administrator user rights in my account. I have been previously in temporary adminiship and have now gone through a formal vote process. I would like to work in technical aspects on that Wikisource for which I need interface admin rights too. I have taken a joint vote in the link above. Kindly do the needful Tiven2240 (talk) 12:36, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

  • Note: There is CU investigation on about this about the admin poll. thanks QueerEcofeminist "cite! even if you fight"!!! [they/them/their] 11:19, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
  • Note on Possible Vote Stacking: Though, technical evidence of the above mentioned CU was negative, there is enough evidence that all the voters to the above mentioned poll are canvassed, as active and old users from other projects specially came to vote on this poll and that was their just 10th edit on mrwikisource. And All other voters/users are already under doubt as related to Tiven2240. Additionally two active users from the project have already opposed them strongly on the poll. We have seen Tiven misusing sysop tools on mrwiki and mrwikisorce, So We definitely don't want to face abusive sysops and hat-collectors on mrwikisource again. thanks QueerEcofeminist "cite! even if you fight"!!! User Kunokuno[edit]

I would like to apply as temporary administrator for three months to fix module errors, update missing templates, and help the other administrators in locating pages which are subject for deletion or for further article improvement such as adding more reliable citations, untagging of broken links, and removal of minor vandalisms. Kunokuno (talk) 07:38, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

The Discoverer@gomwiktionary[edit]

Please give me interface admin access as I want to set up some aspects of the interface for this new wiki. I am a temporary admin on the Konkani Wikipedia too. The Discoverer (talk) 13:48, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

JohnsonLee01@viwikivoyage[edit]

Please check and grant flag in 6 months. – Le Duc Anh (💬|📝) 17:20, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Didn't we just go through this? Almost all of the support is from obvious socks and canvassed accounts in the first. And two votes in the second... Praxidicae (talk) 17:24, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
X mark.svg Not done Per Praxidicae. As I already explained, the voting is not valid, because it isn't actually a community voting. Please give some time to vi.wikivoyage to develop. In the meantime, the stewards and global sysops are happy to help, please see SRM as a place for making requests. Best, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 17:40, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
[3] I do not use the puppet to vote, you can ban this account immediately if found out, I need this permission to add new utilities to wikivoyage. – Le Duc Anh (💬|📝) 17:46, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
Canvassing and sockpuppeting is both dangerous and both a threat to normal consensus-making process. Best, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 17:57, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
I dont Canvassing and use sockpuppeting. I has delete out unqualified voting, Please grant flags, if violations are found, you can ban my account. Please monitor my account, – Le Duc Anh (💬|📝) 18:01, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
Your insistence on granting sysop flags without understanding why it's been declined is problematic. You'd be better off waiting 6 months to a year instead of digging yourself further into a hole here by making demands. Praxidicae (talk) 18:04, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
I dare say that I did nothing wrong, I was unreasonably deleted flags. You can ban my account if I abuse voting or use sockpuppets. – Le Duc Anh (💬|📝) 18:08, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
Mxn, DHN, Trần Nguyễn Minh Huy, ThiênĐế98,can you explain help me ?? – Le Duc Anh (💬|📝) 18:16, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Not reply? – Le Duc Anh (💬|📝) 18:42, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Hello Martin, first I would like to apologize for the inconvenience. Since the Vietnamese projects, with the exception of Wikipedia, Wiktionary and Wikisource, are largely understaffed and do not have the necessary personal to take care of, our community has to send users from other projects from time to time to help carry out these projects. Recently, our community has seen a wave of vandalism from sock puppets, and projects that are not managed by anyone are really at risk. I have never seen a global sysop or steward dealing with these issues in Vietnamese language projects before, and the vandalism are done very subtly (for example: The socks made many normal-look-alike contribution, while putting unwanted, obscene contents inbetween the sentences, making it really difficult for Global Sysops to identify the vandalism). I personally think it would be better if we had a local administrator who speaks the language and takes care of the project. JohnsonLee01 has voluntarily taken care of vi.wikivoyage while other users have taken care of other projects. Although he has only registered with this account for just under two months, he has been contributing to vi.wikipedia for several years and knows exactly what he should and can do. Excerpt from the result of the first round of voting, which did not end as it should be, JohnsonLee01 is trusted by the Vietnamese Community, particularly the bureaucrats ThiênĐế98, Tuanminh01 and other sysops like Trần Nguyễn Minh Huy,... of vi.wikipedia. I would like to ask whether you can wait until the end of this voting round to decide whether you are giving him the right or not.--故人 talk 19:14, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
A surely there is a vi editor who has experience and has established trust with the community. A barely 2 month old user is not someone I would think that most communities would be willing to hand over tools to...you say htey are trusted by the community but I'm confused as to how. Less than 2 months they have been editing - that's barely enough time to demonstrate an understanding of the function of Wikipedia, let alone the need for tools.Praxidicae (talk) 19:17, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
Hi, Praxidicae For the most part, I will agree with your statement. I certainly don't think he has enough experience for big projects like vi.wikipedia, but vi.wikivoyage is a small project is that receives not very much attention and we have to rely on people who are passionate about it. Even though he has only been registered for barely two months, what he did in a so short amount of time is outstanding and that's why many people think he could carry out vi.wikivoyage. The last time when he got the tools, he did a really good job, which shows that he could handle the tools. And I think that as a global sysop, you could look into the logs and see what he did while having the sysop tools to confirm what I said.--故人 talk 19:56, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
The fact that it is a small project with very little oversight is exactly why we shouldn't be granting unknown and untrusted users perms. As far as logs, I find them problematic, particularly the self granting of IPBE and ipbe to brand new accounts that did not request it. Praxidicae (talk) 19:58, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
The qualification is changed over time? Back then I remember if soneome got no opposite in a RfP for at least 1 week, they will be given sysop flag for 6 months or so (that is the way I got temporary sysop flag for vi.wikiquote and vi.wikibooks 10 years ago). In fact those small communities would "never" get enough support from their local community (which seem even no exist at all), they only could rely on support from trusted member in other wikis in the same language. In this case, JohnsonLee01 have trusted from few of "actively users still remaining" on Wikivoyage, I admit that canvassing is applying here (what else he could do for a very small community?) but we wouldn't vote for him if we didn't trust him enough in the beginning. If the qualification is being change, please explain the way this process should be done, instead just leave a comment like "leave it for steward and global sysops". We all know a steward or global sysop with no basic knowledge about specific language is also a "trouble", that why we should promoting local sysop as soon as possible as long as there is trusted people who volunteering to do this task. Aside from that, there is no guaranteed that community in Vietnamese Wikivoyage is skilled enough in English to communicating with Mr.stewards here by English, are you sure you are willing to response his wall of text in Vietnamese for each case needing help (since he has no obligation to present in English, simply he don't have to do that)? If you can, then please forget what I said. Thank you. --minhhuy (talk) 02:42, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

Being an old temporary admin of vivoyage in the past, I see the valid points of both Praxidicae and the need of vivoyage to have an local admin. Clearly JohnsonLee01 has gained the trust of the Vietnamese community and is quite technically proficient, but he doesn't know how wikimedia works and the requirement of an admin from WMF. So if no compromise can be made, I will try to re-apply as an admin of vivoyage with JohnsonLee01 helping me. Thanks. Tuanminh01 (talk) 11:25, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

Interface administrator access[edit]

See Interface admin for information about this user group.

  • If you are requesting adminship and the interface admin at the same time, you can file one request in administrator section and state you want interface adminship as well.
  • MediaWiki interface translations are done at translatewiki.net. Please do not request interface administrator access solely for that purpose; your request will be declined.
  • Since the end of 2018 all interface administrators are required to have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. Please, enable it before posting your request here.

  • Stewards: Please use {{Systmp}} for approved temporary requests.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

For permanent interface adminship, please provide a link to the local community approval. For temporary interface adminship please state for how long and for which tasks you need it, and link to a local announcement.

Bureaucrat access[edit]

See bureaucrat for information about this user group.
  • In principle, requests for temporary bureaucrat access are not granted.
  • A small project does not need bureaucrats. Currently whether a promotion is valid or not is decided by stewards. See here for a guideline.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

CheckUser access[edit]

See CheckUser policy for information about this user group and the policy governing the use of this tool.
  • To request CheckUser information, see Steward requests/Checkuser. This is the place to request CheckUser access.
  • Temporary CheckUser access is not permitted and temporary access is only used by stewards.

Oversight access[edit]

See Oversight policy for information about this user group and the policy governing the use of this tool.
  • To request to have content oversighted, ask for a steward in #wikimedia-stewardsconnect and contact a steward privately. This section is for requesting access to the Oversight tool.
  • For contact details about oversighters across the wikis, refer to this page.
  • Note that temporary Oversight access is not permitted and temporary status is only used by stewards.

  • When a new user is assigned to this group, please add them to this list.

Removal of access[edit]

  • If you're requesting the removal of your own permissions, make sure you're logged in to your account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request (see previous discussion on 24 hour delays); the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.
  • To request the removal of another user's permissions, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted user from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. However, as bureaucrats of some wikis may remove users from the administrator or bureaucrat group, please see also a separate list of these specific wikis.
  • See the instructions above for adding new requests. Please post new requests at the bottom of the section.

Miscellaneous requests[edit]

Requests for permissions that don't fit in other sections belong here. Importer rights can be granted on most wikis by stewards only. Please gain local community consensus before posting a new section here.

Note that the following types of permissions requests belong on separate pages:

  • SRB — Local or global bot status
  • SRGP — Global permissions
