Requests for global (un)block

Symbol comment vote.svg <translate>

Please be sure to follow the instructions below:

Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions.
Please also review Global blocking. [[<tvar name=phab>phab:T17294</tvar>|Only IP addresses can be globally blocked at this moment]]. Please see <tvar name=gl>#Requests for global (un)lock and (un)hiding</tvar> if your request involves an account.
Global blocks don't affect Meta-Wiki, so if your IP address is blocked, you can still appeal here. IP addresses that cause disruption on Meta should be reported at [[<tvar name=rfh>Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat</tvar>|Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat]] instead of here so that they can be blocked locally.</translate>
<translate> Instructions for making a request</translate>

<translate> Before requesting, make sure that:

  1. You know the IP address(es) you wish to have globally blocked or unblocked.
  2. For blocks, the global blocking criteria are met.
  3. For unblocks, your request addresses the original reason for blocking the IP, if any.

To make a request for the address(es) to be blocked or unblocked

Copy the template below to the bottom of this section and explain why the address(es) should be blocked/unblocked.</translate>

When requesting that your IP be unblocked, note that stewards need to know your IP address to even consider a request.
To find your IP, please visit <tvar name=whatismyip>https://www.whatismyip.com/</tvar>
You are not required to disclose your IP in public - you may make requests privately to any steward on <tvar name=IRC>IRC</tvar> or by email at: <tvar name=address>stewards(at)wikimedia(dot)org</tvar></translate>

Global unblock for 50.16.230.151

Status:    complete

This is the IP address of my AWS EC2 instance. I use this server as the endpoint of a SOCKS5-over-SSH tunnel to encrypt network traffic when using public wifi networks It is an AWS elastic IP assigned to my account, but is being caught up in the general AWS block: "Cross-wiki spam: Amazon Web Services - Service has been used for trojan/spam attacks - Little or no good edits." Also e-mailing info@wikimedia.org, per instructions on block message. --DataGazetteer (talk) 20:12, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

I can grant you an IP block exemption on EnWiki, where you mainly edit. Ruslik (talk) 05:24, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
Yes, please -- that would be great. Thank you. 50.16.230.151 11:25, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
If you have a global account, we could grant it an IP exemption. — billinghurst sDrewth 11:30, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
I just followed the appropriate link to activate my SUL across all of the wikimedia projects. DataGazetteer (talk) 11:41, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
Thank you -- much appreciated. The preceding unsigned comment was added by DataGazetteer (talk • contribs) 12:21, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

Global unblock for 84.25.0.0/16

Status:    Done

Trigger: OTRS 2012120310012749. Further investigation:

  • Reason for global block: only one IP 84.25.68.107 xwiki-contribsxwiki-dateSTIP infoWHOISrobtexgblockglistabuselogipchecker
  • Properties of range: In use by large ISP in NL for customer internet connections. Range is semi-static (though RevDNS wrongly may suggest it's dynamic). The x.x.x.107 appears in my proxy database, added 23-11-2012 as a webproxy. Further digging in my database learned me that this IP is still a webproxy, most likely run by a private person.
  • To globally block an entire /16 range for this, imho is a bit over the top. - RonaldB (talk) 23:22, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
    • Yes check.svg Unblocked after reading this, the OTRS ticket and an email of another person. If the vandal continues we'd better block that single IP. Trijnsteltalk 20:44, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Global unblock for 108.61.47.139

This IP address is not an open proxy. It belongs to the paid VPN service Private Internet Access. I use this VPN regularly on public wifi networks to encrypt my network traffic. --Stephen Gilbert (talk) 03:52, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Requests for global (un)lock and (un)hiding

Symbol comment vote.svg Note that global blocking currently only applies to IPs, due to a technical limitation. If you wish to request a named account for global [un]locking, please request a global [un]lock here instead. Be sure to follow the instructions below:
  • Your request might be rejected if your request doesn't include the necessary information.
  • Warning! This page is publicly viewable. If the account name is grossly insulting or contains personal information please contact a steward privately in #wikimedia-stewardsconnect or email your request to the stewards OTRS queue at stewards(at)wikimedia(dot)org (direct wiki interface) but do not post it here. Thanks.
  • Warning! This is not the place to ask for locks based on your opinion that someone is disruptive. Global locks are used exclusively against vandalism and spam, not because of content disputes, not because you think that someone deserves to be globally blocked. In such cases, you should ask for local blocks at appropriate places.
  • If you are globally locked, you should appeal your lock to stewards(_AT_)wikimedia.org.
Instructions for making a request

Before requesting that a global account be (un)locked, please be sure that:

  1. You have evidence of cross-wiki disruption from the account(s).
  2. You can show that it is not feasible to use local-only blocks or other measures like page protection to combat the disruption.
  3. You have considered making the request in #wikimedia-stewardsconnect, especially for account names which will be hidden, or for urgent requests.
To make a request for an account to be locked or unlocked
Copy one of the codes below to the bottom of this section and explain why the account(s) should be locked/unlocked.
=== Global lock/unlock for Foo ===

* {{LockHide|username}}
* {{LockHide|username|hidename=1}} <!-- if you do not want the name to be visible on this page -->

Global unblock for BilCat

Status:    In progress

I primarily edit on EN:WP, and have encountered global blocks when I edit though Amazon's Web service. I asked an admin on ENWP (privately) to unblock me from ENWP, but he said that I should ask a steward. I rarely edit cross-wiki from Amazon's service, but I may do so if the need arises. - BilCat (talk) 03:19, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

I'm no steward, but I suggest you consider requesting Global IP block exemption on SRGP. Technical note: you're asking for a global unblock, not a global unlock: locks are for accounts, global blocks are for IPs. πr2 (tc) 03:23, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
Then I'm totally confused :) Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 03:28, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
I've asked there now. This can be removed/archived. Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 03:41, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
