Steward requests/Global permissions

This is an archived version of this page, as edited by Tulsi (talk | contribs) at 03:50, 10 January 2020 (→‎Global sysop for ~riley: GTG!). It may differ significantly from the current version.

This page hosts requests for global permissions. To make a request, read the relevant policy (global rollback , global sysop , global rename , …) and make a request below. Explain why membership is needed for that group, and detail prior experience or qualifications.

This is not a vote and any active Wikimedia editor may participate in the discussion.

Global rollback and global interface editor requests require no fewer than 5 days of discussion while abuse filter helper and maintainer requests require no fewer than 7 days. Global renamer and global sysop requests require no fewer than 2 weeks of discussion. For requests that are unlikely to pass under any circumstances, they may be closed by a steward without further discussion (after a reasonable amount of input).

Requests for global rollback permissions

Please be sure to follow the instructions below:
Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions, and not doing so would reflect poorly on your suitability.
Please also review the Global rollback policy.
Instructions for making a request

Before requesting, make sure that: You have sufficient activity to meet the requirements to be allocated the global rollback flag

To make a request
Copy the template below to the bottom of this section and explain of why you need the access and why you're suitable.
=== Global rollback for {{subst:u|{{subst:REVISIONUSER}}}} ===
{{sr-request
 |status    = <!-- don't change this line -->
 |domain    = global <!-- don't change this line -->
 |user name = {{subst:REVISIONUSER}} <!-- don't change this line unless you're nominating another user -->
}}
::''Not ending before {{subst:#time:j F Y H:i|+5 days}} UTC''

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than 5 days (with rare exceptions , no matter how obvious the result may seem). This is not a vote, and all input is welcome. Stewards will determine whether consensus exists; when doing so it is likely that the weight given to the input of those involved in cross-wiki work will be most influential.

Requests for global sysop permissions

Please be sure to follow the instructions below:
Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions, and not doing so would reflect poorly on your suitability.
Please also review the Global sysops policy.

When you give someone global sysop rights, please list them on Users with global sysop access and ask them to subscribe to the global sysops mailing list.
Instructions for making a request

  1. You have a global account ;
  2. You are logged in on this wiki, and the account is part of your global account;
To make a request
Copy the template below to the bottom of this section and explain of why you need the access and why you're suitable. If you previously requested that right, please add a link to the previous discussion(s).
=== Global sysop for {{subst:u|{{subst:REVISIONUSER}}}} ===
{{sr-request

 |user name = {{subst:REVISIONUSER}} <!-- don't change this line unless you're nominating another user -->
}}
:''Not ending before {{subst:#time:j F Y H:i|+2 week}} UTC''

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than two weeks (no exceptions are allowed no matter how obvious the result may seem). This is not a vote, and all input is welcome. Stewards will determine whether consensus exists; when doing so it is likely that the weight given to the input of those involved in cross-wiki work will be most influential. Please note: Since 2019 all global sysops are required to have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled.

Global sysop for ~riley

Not ending before 23 January 2020 00:21 UTC

Hey all; Riley here. This may seem premature in the sense that I actively have an open meta RfA, however, I have had quite an afternoon where global sysop would have been a major benefit. Let me walk you through my afternoon dealing with one LTA:

  • Eight IPs vandalizing seven different wikis (af.wq, af.wb, af.wikt, az.wikt, az.wq, az.wb, meta) - six of these are GS wikis.
  • 371 edits rollbacked, 188 pages requested deletion.
  • Triggered abuse filter while attempting to remove vandalism on each

While this is far from an average day, global sysop would benefit me in my work on the SWMT by being able to block these LTAs, nuke the pages, bypass abuse filters and most importantly, increase response time while decreasing the need for steward involvement (although in this case, these IPs ultimately needed steward intervention). While this LTA will have chilled out by the time this request closes, I would like to have the tools to be helpful and this is the next logical step towards that.

For those who do not know my background, I am an active member of the SWMT and live on IRC in #wikimedia-stewards where I spend most of my time talking to StewardBot whether it be through @steward or editing SRG. I am a global rollback and an admin on a content project (Commons). For those interested, I live in the UTC+8 which would also be beneficial.

I meet the global sysops policy in terms of userpage requirements and having 2FA enabled. ~riley (talk) 00:21, 9 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for LiouxiaoBot

@Ruslik0: Thank you for unblocking my VPN IP address for my user account. Unfortunately, I found my bot account (LiouxiaoBot) is still blocked at that VPN IP (162.220.14.232). Could you please also unblock it? Thanks, --Liouxiao & LiouxiaoBot (talk) 13:44, 8 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for Horzagger

Hello, I am a nomad worker around the world and I very often connect on the Net with unsecured connections, then I prefer to use a VPN, and I use Tor in some regions of the world. I need to be allowed to connect with my VPN and with Tor on Wikipedia. (I have sign up on fr.wikipedia with my VPN, and I want to participate on several wikis of the Wikimedia Foundation). Thanks, --Horzagger (talk) 03:36, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Horzagger: All your edits are only to this cite? Ruslik (talk) 09:32, 11 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Ruslik0: Hello, sorry I'm new on Wikipedia, and I can't edit because all the IP addresses I'm probably going to use are blocked on Wikipedia. --Horzagger (talk) 15:59, 11 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Horzagger: Which project do you plan to contribute to? --Jyothis (talk) 15:26, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for CoconutLord80

<(Sorry for spelling errors) I use Cloudflare's DNS service 1.1.1.1 , as well as a VPN ocaionaly. I love editing Wikipedia and making it a better sight. My ISP's DNS is extremely slow so it is extremely hard for me to edit without 1.1.1.1. I need this exemption because otherwise, I will not be able to edit Wikipedia and make it better. I hope that you will understand my situation and help me. >, thanks, --~~~~

You can use 1.1.1.1 DNS service without the VPN by selecting "1.1.1.1" and not "1.1.1.1 with WARP+" option in the settings of your 1.1.1.1 app. If your DNS is the only problem, you can simply use the 1.1.1.1 settings without the VPN. Is it sufficient or do you still need VPN after trying that options? — regards, Revi 01:11, 21 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
(Even though your mobile OS will report you have connected to "VPN server", for simple 1.1.1.1 settings, it only routes DNS traffic to Cloudflare, and all other traffic doesn't route Cloudflare. WARP+ routes all traffic through Cloudflare.) — regards, Revi 01:12, 21 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for 恨国党非蠢即坏

I would like to contribute to en:wikt (edits I've made). But I need an open VPN to connect now. Please give me an IP block exemption. Thanks, --恨国党非蠢即坏 (talk) 10:26, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You should request local ipbe on the enwiktonary. I don't found any xwiki edits. So gipbe may not be a good solution for you. Renamed user uofgjwfojfowubwofemipvwjboiw (talk) 11:26, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@User:Renamed user uofgjwfojfowubwofemipvwjboiw But I am sure I am blocked by a global ban. A global exemption is a natural solution to a global ban. If the ban on me is undue on en.wikt, so it should be elsewhere. And I may edit on some more wiki projects in the future. 恨国党非蠢即坏 (talk) 19:14, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@User:Ruslik0: Please inform me explicitly if I am refused. 恨国党非蠢即坏 (talk) 13:28, 9 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for XanonymusX

On August 4th, Jon Kolbert blocked the South-Tyrolean public train wifi (“RailLAN”) as an open proxy. I am spending a lot of time on those trains and necessarily have to use that network; I have already been unblocked on deWP and testwiki, but since I usually switch between a number of projects (Italian and English WP, most importantly), a global exemption should be the best solution (if the IP block has to be kept in place). Thanks, --XanonymusX (talk) 18:12, 7 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for MacySinrich

I have been blocked a couple of times by you for open proxy when I have no control over my Proxy. I would like it for my account to not get blocked again for this. Because I cannot control this. Please respond! I edit only to wikipedia.

Global IP block exempt for Sappra

I often attempt to edit using public WiFi on schools, but find these IPs to be globally blocked quite frequently. I have also had the same problem on other operators. Not really a massive issue, but would be convenient to be able to edit from these networks, thanks, --Sappra (talk) 20:51, 8 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
