This page hosts requests for global permissions. To make a request, read the relevant policy (global rollback , global sysop , global rename , …) and make a request below. Explain why membership is needed for that group, and detail prior experience or qualifications.

This is not a vote and any active Wikimedia editor may participate in the discussion.

Global rollback and global interface editor requests require no fewer than 5 days of discussion while abuse filter helper and maintainer requests require no fewer than 7 days. Global renamer and global sysop requests require no fewer than 2 weeks of discussion. For requests that are unlikely to pass under any circumstances, they may be closed by a steward without further discussion (after a reasonable amount of input).

Requests for global rollback permissions

Please be sure to follow the instructions below:
Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions, and not doing so would reflect poorly on your suitability.
Please also review the Global rollback policy.
Instructions for making a request

Before requesting, make sure that: You have sufficient activity to meet the requirements to be allocated the global rollback flag

To make a request
Copy the template below to the bottom of this section and explain of why you need the access and why you're suitable.
=== Global rollback for {{subst:u|{{subst:REVISIONUSER}}}} ===
{{sr-request
 |status    = <!-- don't change this line -->
 |domain    = global <!-- don't change this line -->
 |user name = {{subst:REVISIONUSER}} <!-- don't change this line unless you're nominating another user -->
}}
::''Not ending before {{subst:#time:j F Y H:i|+5 days}} UTC''

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than 5 days (with rare exceptions , no matter how obvious the result may seem). This is not a vote, and all input is welcome. Stewards will determine whether consensus exists; when doing so it is likely that the weight given to the input of those involved in cross-wiki work will be most influential.

Requests for global sysop permissions

Please be sure to follow the instructions below:
Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions, and not doing so would reflect poorly on your suitability.
Please also review the Global sysops policy.
Stewards
When you give someone global sysop rights, please list them on Users with global sysop access and ask them to subscribe to the global sysops mailing list.

}}
:''Not ending before {{subst:#time:j F Y H:i|+2 week}} UTC''

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than two weeks (no exceptions are allowed no matter how obvious the result may seem). This is not a vote, and all input is welcome. Stewards will determine whether consensus exists; when doing so it is likely that the weight given to the input of those involved in cross-wiki work will be most influential. Please note: Since 2019 all global sysops are required to have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled.

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than two weeks (no exceptions are allowed no matter how obvious the result may seem). While all input is welcome, there is a hard 80% support requirement for this role as per the global renamer policy.

Global rename for Wealszy

Not ending before 16 May 2023 16:21 UTC

Hello. Necessary to respond to requests to change certain names and usernames on the local wiki. Wealszy (talk) 16:21, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose Weak oppose because you haven’t given a reason of why you need/want the rights or why you are qualified to be granted them. You have ~9,000 contributions globally which I find to be quite low. In your request you also state that you want to “ change certain names and usernames on the local wiki.” You rename users globally, so that doesn’t make any sense. I would reapply again once you have over 10,000 global edits and when you are capable of explaining to the community that you are qualified and why you need the rights. Illusion Flame (talk) 22:07, 2 May 2023 (UTC) Neutral Neutral because there are translation issues that prevent me from accurately assessing the candidate. Illusion Flame (talk) 11:02, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    FWIW I don't think you can rightfully assess the (in)experience of a user with multiple thousands of edits just by checking their edit count against an idiosyncratic threshold, nor do I see why, were the user indeed inexperienced, this should magically change from a 10% increase in that number. As for the concern concerning the nomination, I pinged the user below for clarification and would advise against piling on before we get a response. ~~~~
    User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk)
    15:38, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    If we receive a response, I will happily change my !vote, but until then it stays. Illusion Flame (talk) 21:41, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    @1234qwer1234qwer4: The respond we received says “I need this permission to rename articles” This isn’t even correct. Illusion Flame (talk) 01:25, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Oppose, it’s not necessary, and there’s no reason for you to need the rights, especially when it’s not exactly the least damaging right. Zippybonzo (talk) 17:51, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Oppose Please give a valid reason. Tryvix t 15:21, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Adding a ping: @Wealszy, could you clarify what you plan to be working on and what your experience for this permission has been so far? ~~~~
    User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk)
    15:26, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Comment Comment Hello again. I need this permission to rename articles on wikis that need to be renamed, and to respond to username change requests. By local wiki, I mean a wiki in any foreign language (for example: enwiki). Wealszy (talk) 17:05, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Question Question: I like to give you the chance to explain your request a bit more (like 1234qwer1234qwer4), before that, before that I can't really make a fair decision. --TenWhile6 (talk | SWMT) 15:39, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Oppose I do not understand your reasoning. What is "the local wiki"? You want to change "certain names and usernames" but renamers can just rename users and noting else. --Ameisenigel (talk) 15:42, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Let me ask you @Wealszy:, is there something on az.wiki that inspired you to make this request? Maybe give your answer in Azeri (alongside English) if you're more comfortable with that. Leaderboard (talk) 17:16, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    @Leaderboard Requests are made by various users regarding the change of username in Azwiki. I want this permission to speed up the response to those requests. Wealszy (talk) 17:22, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    @Wealszy:, so your request is for Azeri users, right? Or do you also plan to (later on) process rename requests in other wikis, such as en.wiki? Leaderboard (talk) 17:23, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    @Leaderboard My request is for azwiki Wealszy (talk) 17:25, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Support. This is clearly a good-faith request by a user who wants to work mainly on az-wiki. While I note that there doesn't seem to be a significant queue in the az-specific page, that in itself should not be a reason to disqualify such a user (after all, most may do this in Meta). Edit count, while not high, isn't that low that one can reasonably argue that the user is unqualified or unexperienced either. The only stickling point is that you don't seem to have adminship, which most rename candidates are usually expected to have as they often use it to process unblock requests, for instance. All in all, I think most of the opposes I see can be traced down to a lost-in-translation, and hence I'm giving you the benefit of doubt as a borderline application. Leaderboard (talk) 17:41, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    I am not sure the candidate understands what the permissions even do because they said “I need this permission to rename articles.” This makes no sense. Illusion Flame (talk) 01:28, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    @Illusion Flame:, I think what's happening is that the candidate's native language is not English, and they are trying to internally translate from Azeri, which is causing "lost-in-translation" problems. For example, in your above quote, they would well be meaning "users" when they said "articles". Leaderboard (talk) 04:36, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    That is a good point. Illusion Flame (talk) 10:10, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Support per Leaderboard on moral grounds, though I understand this is a quick fail. ─ The Aafī (talk) 11:41, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  2. You are logged in on this wiki, and the account is part of your global account;

Global IP block exempt for Dizenter

Due to the global blocking of a whole range of Internet addresses, I lost the ability to edit Wikipedia. Even though I don't even use VPN. Can I get an global IP block exemption? --Dizenter (talk) 08:35, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for Heffalump1974

Being a bilingual Russian- & Ukrainian-speaking Ukrainian citizen I have to use VPN to work with certain Russian web-sites, during these periods Wikipedia' security system stops me from making edits. Five years ago I have alreay asked some of your Stewards to let me write here without using that stupid mode "VPN ON, checking some ru-sites, VPN OFF, editing, repeat ad libitum". I wonder if checking my WP-Loyalty (kidding) takes such a long period. Have you finally come to any conclusion, pls do inform me about it. Mind that I'm only a humble editor/translator, and I do not understand your specific terms and procedures, just tell me if it is possible for me to continue my edits without being block and where should I sign my name with blood (kidding again). Heffalump1974 (talk) 23:19, 11 April 2023 (UTC) P.S. I don't know the meaning of "...changed global group membership for Heffalump1974 from (none) to global-ipblock-exempt (Special:Permalink/17681404, for one year", 'cause after that nothing has changed that year.[reply]

@Heffalump1974: Global IP block exemption only helps with global IP blocks. As far as I know many proxys are being blocked locally at ruwiki – global IP block exemption wouldn't help there. If you couldn't edit using VPN during your year with global IP block exemption you might need a local exemption. Per ru:Википедия:Исключение из IP-блокировок it seems you need to ask at ru:Википедия:Проверка участников/Запросы на флаг ipblock-exempt Johannnes89 (talk) 05:53, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Abuse filter helper for Fehufanga

Hello, I am here to request the Global Abuse Filter Helper rights. I am an admin on the Simple English Wikipedia (a Wiki covered by the GAF), where I have created and maintained abuse filters, an admin on the Indonesian Wiktionary, which has only nine local abuse filters and relies on the GAF, and an abuse filter helper on the English Wikipedia. I also do cross-wiki patrolling for vandalism and sometimes I'd encounter an account blocked for tripping an abuse filter. It would be useful to me to see the edit filters that the user triggered, especially if they are LTA filters. Thank you for your consideration. ----*Fehufangą✉ Talk page06:52, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
