Cross-wiki action[edit]

Hi Savh!

Estoy a tus ordenes, saludos y nuevamente gracias. --Akapochtli (talk) 02:21, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please reopen that discussion[edit]

There is no other venue in which to discuss this issue. I request you lease reopen that discussion. Reguyla (talk) 21:45, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is definitely not an issue for meta admins or 'crats, and as such, not a discussion to be held there. Savhñ 21:49, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry but I disagree. Meta is the wiki that has all of the IRC related pages, the group contacts and the inforation about the Wikimedia IRC channels. This is absolutely the right place to have a discussion both about the conduct of an IRC group contact and the unblocking of a Wikimedia user. AlexZ has been bullying me and pursuing an ongoing multi site vendetta against me and you are protecting his harassment. Reguyla (talk) 21:53, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I am not. WM:RFH is a page for requests to meta sysops and bureaucrats. Your request isn't related to us. Savhñ 21:55, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bloqueos[edit]

Hola.

Lo he adaptado. Savhñ 12:56, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Unfair and illegitimate decision[edit]

Were you aware of Commons:Administrators/Requests/INeverCry (readmin)? 27/2 is one of the top 5 most successful RFAs in Commons history. And then I removed a 3-month old block of a user who's 6 month block came after a 1-week block before it. Then the Commons crats organize an arbitrary Arbcom via private email and you remove my bit after the results of that and a straw poll. I didn't even merit a de-sysop request. And you decided to lend steward approval to this disgusting cheat. And you were happy to do it to someone who thought of you as a nice guy and a friend. You showed me you're an enemy to me.

AFBorchert, a respected crat, resigned rather than carry out something he knew was wrong, but you did it like it was no big deal. You served Odder and Nick and Savin, people who hate me and talk about and to me like I was a piece of shit or a little boy. I'm almost 50. I would've resigned as a steward before doing that to you. I would've told Commons that someone put in place by a strong RFA deserved the chance to defend himself in a de-sysop. The leadership of these projects gets worse by the year. I've watched it. But you and the cadre of Commons jackals won't get rid of me. I'm here to stay. Now you have a fine day mi amigo. lNeverCry 09:26, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I merely proceeded to undoing the action done by one bureaucrat, per the request of all the remaining bureaucrats that agreed not the proper proceedure had been followed and the action had to be undone - the decision was not mine but an implementation of a decision to undo an action by one of their fellow bureaucrats. As much as I understand it to be upsetting, it really isn't up to me to involve myself further into this, it certainly isn't my intention to be a friend or enemy to anyone in this discussion and I would urge you to refrain from personal attacks. Savhñ 14:51, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly, let me apologise to Savh for using his talk page.
INeverCry I don't know you and certainly don't hate you, I said when you resigned that I valued the service you've given to Commons and that still holds true, your work on Commons then as now is appreciated. I said I do, of course, wish INeverCry well. The community has shown (largely) kindness and patience in the past and I hope (and ask) that we continue to do so going forward, supporting INC in whatever he wishes to do on Commons in the future.
I'm sorry about the events that occurred when you were de-sysopped at the request of the Commons Bureaucrats, but this was, we should remember, a result of promises you made, this in turn resulted in members of the community (myself included) wanting to hold you to those comments (and out of the 27 people who supported your re-RfA, 3 opposed you having your sysop permission reinstated during the discussion on Commons bureaucrat noticeboard, and the discussion there was 11/5/1 against you having your permission reinstated).
You and the community should remember it was you who said Let me make it very clear that I don't intend to be a sysop here again [1] and just want to make it clear that I do not under any circumstances want my sysop right returned once stewards remove it tomorrow. Not in a month and not in a year. I won't bother the community with another RFA. The community has my word on that. I don't expect that an RFA from me would garner much support after this. [2].
You now need to move on INeverCry, the events leading up to removal of permission were fair and took into account your own statements and stated wishes. I think it's very unfair to come here and complain to Savh, and a little unfair to Odder and myself, I don't hate you, I doubt Odder hates you, I only intend to hold you accountable to the comments you made when resigning in December 2016. Thanks ...[edit]

... for deleting those pages at ro.wikinews. Just in case the reason/s for the deletion request is/are not clear, here is a quick (and pretty efficient) online translator from Romanian to English. Wintereu 15:19, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My mother tongue being Spanish, I can understand some flares of Romanian. I thought deleting it with the default summary would provide an even clearer reason for deletion. For the spam page, I could indeed have chosen "Autopromovare sau reclamă", but I guessed "spam" would also be understood - I perform quite some deletions of spam cross-wiki. Savhñ 15:47, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

vote?[edit]

... and what do you think about this? Unsure if it should be considered a vote. Ankry (talk) 20:38, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No reason not to consider it a vote, imo. Corrected it. Savhñ 20:44, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Just whacked it again locally, so flagging in case there is global whacking required.  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:16, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, gave it another whack. I have little pity for IPs that have been spamming for nearly 2 years, so I'm glad they won't be in the next few years. Savhñ 23:36, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

date translations[edit]

As I see here you may be more familiar with translation issues than others. I noticed that the date format used here (and likely in other places) should be language-dependent, eg.: for Slavic languages genitive form should be used for month, German people suggest that just a dot should be added after day, unsure about other languages. I tried to deal with it directly in translated texts like here, but it is ugly. Have you any idea how to introduce a language-dependent date format in a cleaner way? A dedicated template? Ankry (talk) 14:22, 18 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am aware the translations are not great, and if I'd know where, I'd propose adapting the {{#time expression to these different forms in the various languages. Adapting the template to create an algorithm that works for every language differently & correctly seems impossible. In Spanish, when using a date in that sense, a "de" should be placed between the day, month and year. Even though not very aesthetic, I believed placing the raw date would be clear for everyone and a hassle less. Savhñ 21:10, 18 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I meant a template like this. It should support most ltr languages used for this template (it is based on wikidata), except Finnish & Kurdish which seem to be unsuported by #date. Of course, this is rather a suggestion for future; I do not intend to start a translation revolution during the vote. Ankry (talk) 22:09, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I understand the idea of your template, but I believe it should possibly be included in the #date function, instead of creating a custom template for it. It seems to me to be something the interface should be able to support. Savhñ 23:06, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It would be obviously better. Ankry (talk) 23:14, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

TOR[edit]

  • Start of block: 2017-01-01T11:29:56
  • Expiration of block: 2018-01-01T11:29:56
  • Intended blockee: 2607:5300:0:0:0:0:0:0/32

Such a lovely range-block, that just happens to hit a lot of TOR exit nodes.

Many of us are using TOR for privacy reasons - we are in danger from our own governments. Please consider who you are blocking as well as the people you are targeting. A local block is a very blunt tool; prefer global blocks for which there are global exemptions. - Amgine/meta wikt wnews blog wmf-blog goog news 05:35, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to say, but that rangeblock has been in place (on and off) since October 2012 with similar restrictions. I am not sure why you point me to the alleged bluntness of the local blocking tool either, since the range is also globally blocked but global blocks do not apply on meta. I have given you local IP block exemption. Savhñ 11:06, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, there are local blocks on that same range as well on en.wiki, es.wiki, ja.wiki, nl.wiki, ru.wiki & zh.wiki. Savhñ 11:09, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I had not realized meta is not covered by the global IP blocks; for me, that changes the everything and obviates my complaint. I apologize. I was wrong. - Amgine/meta wikt wnews blog wmf-blog goog news 16:52, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Spambots[edit]

Hi Savh, as often happens alas all present stewards in the channel seem to be inactive. I see you not there but I see there that you are mass locking spambots. WVould you please also include this one stopped by filter on nl-wiki and blocked locally. Dank je wel. MoiraMoira (talk) 10:00, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Savhñ 10:11, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted User Page[edit]

Could you please explain to me why my user page was deleted and show what part of the deletion policy you had used to justify my user page being deleted 12 seconds after it was made?
I used the meta scope. Meta is not a free hosting provider. Savhñ 02:12, 1 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It was under the acceptable section: Documentation intended to help users contribute and collaborate in other wiki projects. I am trying to set up a group that allows people to share ideas about technology, philosophy, etc. How is that not allowed, or did you just not read my page? Yes, I know it's pretty long, but atleast read it instead of deleting it 12 seconds after it was made...
I didn't delete it 12 seconds after it was created, but fast enough for me to realise it does not belong here. Feel free to ask another sysop, but what you say here does not correspond with the userpage I deleted. Savhñ 02:24, 1 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

So Wikimedia doesn't allow a community that answers questions and discusses ideas?

how can i use proxy?[edit]

hi, in my country some wikis were blocked and i must use proxy software (like freegate) to help wiki. for example see this page. today when i wanted to use freegate software (for accessing upper link), wiki didnt let me leave my comment! and wiki asked me to share my problem with you. whats ur opinion for free vpn?

Please ask for global IP block exemption on SRGP, if you are affected by proxy blocks. Savhñ 09:51, 5 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

89.218.186.82[edit]

Hi. I just reblocked for two years as recently came off a one year block. You global'd it finishing in May 2017, wonder whether you can update that global block now to get ahead of the game, and to sync with the local. Thanks for your consideration.  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:15, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Done! Savhñ 23:28, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

FYI: Blocked 134.249.48.0/21 here and commons[edit]

From my spambot monitoring of here and commons (predominantly), I have lightly blocked 134.249.48.0/21. While it is Kyvistar I am unable to see any IP edits in the range [3] [4]. There is spambots across the whole /16, the concentration is this /21 (at this time).  — billinghurst sDrewth 22:53, 14 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I come across Kyvistar ranges all the time, though they usually contain too much real users to justify a global block. The /21 is however globally blockable, most recent activity is spammy or otherwise suspicious, which I have done for 3 months. Savhñ 00:16, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Pretty much what I was seeing from normal view, glad that it is confirmed. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 14:11, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Charo birth year[edit]

I am 67 years old and no way is Charo younger than me. I remember as a young girl watching her on the Ed Sullivan show nod she was definitely older than me by more than a couple of years. I honestly believe she is closer to 74 than 66 I remember her birth year as originally being given as 1944 then 1946 then early fifties. I honestly think her birth year is probably around 1944 but no way is she only 66 years old

Not sure why you bring that up on my talk page, but unfortunately your own experiences are not a reliable source. There is however a mention of this debate on her Wikipedia articles, both in Spanish and in English. Savhñ 00:10, 22 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Question about a lock[edit]

Hi,

I have a question regarding locks. I am looking at special:CentralAuth/PokestarFan and he is indefinitely blocked on 3 wikis for incompetence. Also, his edits on wikidata has been rocky since it is very easy to have an automated tool gone wrong, hence his 79k edits. I was wondering if a lock on srg is appropriate.

Regards,

MechQuester (talk) 03:28, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry I haven't responded before - I have been quite busy with other tasks lately. The procedure for global locks of established users is explained on the Global bans page. I am not fond of locking users with proper contributions to a project, even if they are semi-automated. Savhñ 22:26, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:Hammadsaeed[edit]

Hi,

I have an enquiry regarding the above user. The user, though indeffed on English & Simple Wikipedias, was granted autopatrolled rights on UrWiki.

As I checked the CentralAoth, I found this pic http://img.ctrlv.in/img/17/04/01/58dfe9cad4b7a.png i.e. the user a/c is tagged as a bot.

How is it possible? Besides all his edits are manual as far as I see nobody tagged him as bot on UrWiki.

Can you please look into the matter and explain? Thanks in advance. --Muzammil (talk) 18:03, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Looking into that. Savhñ 18:04, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You granted the bot flag:

If the right is not correctly translated, file a request on phabricator. Savhñ 18:08, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'll check it. Thanks for the quick input. --Muzammil (talk) 18:14, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

SOS[edit]

Hi there,

The Anti-Harassment Tools team plans to start develop of a new feature to allow users to restrict emails from new accounts. This feature will allow an individual user to stop harassing emails from coming through the Special:EmailUser system from abusive sockpuppeting accounts.

We’re inviting you to join the discussion because you have experience dealing with abusive sockpuppeting accounts and you work across many wikis. We think that your insights will help us build a better feature.

You can leave comments on this discussion page or send an email to the Anti-Harassment Tools team.

It is important to hear from a broad range of people who are interested in the design of the tool, so we hope you join the discussion and let us know how it would work best for you.
