- WK? Whose Knowledge?
Wikimedia Thailand is a recognized Wikimedia chapter in Thailand. We organise outreach activities to promote the creation and access to free knowledge, in collaboration with local and international partners including the Wikimedia Foundation.
Founded in 2008 as a user group and recognized as a Wikimedia chapter in June 2019. Our stated aims are to support the creation, development, and maintenance of Thai Wikimedia projects, and to promote public knowledge in Thailand.

About
Wikimedia Thailand began as a community of Thai Wikimedians. Although Thai Wikipedia was launched on 4 August 2004, most contributors initially communicated through informal channels. In 2008, a more structured space emerged through an online forum (commonly known as a web board in Thailand), forming an informal network collaborating around Wikipedia and its sister projects. In its early years, the community focused on technical exchange and online discussions, without a formal structure or direct affiliation with the Wikimedia Foundation.
Following increased engagement with the global Wikimedia movement, particularly after Wikimania 2011, the community began exploring more structured outreach activities and public initiatives. This marked a transition from a small online community to a more public-facing movement. Between 2013 and 2018, Wikimedia Thailand grew significantly in both activities and participation. The group expanded collaborations with educational institutions, cultural organizations, and local partners, while contributing to global Wikimedia initiatives. Programs such as edit-a-thons, education partnerships, and open knowledge campaigns helped strengthen its presence and volunteer base.
In 2019, Wikimedia Thailand was officially recognized as a Wikimedia Chapter by the Wikimedia Foundation, establishing it as the national representative of the movement. Wikimedia Thailand continues to promote the creation, access, and sharing of free knowledge through Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata, and other projects, working with volunteers, institutions, and the public to make knowledge accessible to everyone.
