This page hosts requests for global permissions. To make a request, read the relevant policy (global rollback, global sysop, ...) and make a request below. Explain why membership is needed for that group, and detail prior experience or qualifications.
This is not a vote and any active Wikimedia editor may participate in the discussion.
Successful global rollback requests require no fewer than 5 days of discussion, while successful global sysop discussions require no fewer than 2 weeks.

I'm a medical editor on Wikiproject Medicine's: Translation Taskforce. This summer I received an IEG for Medicine Translation Project Community Organizing to help the project grow and to ensure articles that have been translated are integrated properly to their target Wikis. This has to be done in a way where we don't just translate an article and leave it over at the corresponding Wiki, for someone else to fix the mess once (or even if) they find it.
To ensure that the content is of high quality we need proper references, meaning a number of Templates and Modules need to be imported. Additionally we are using infoboxes which display links and information, and importing these is also a goal. Also we are lacking en:MediaWiki:Common.css in for example Kinyarwanda (a language spoken by roughly 10 million people, currently lacking administrators), which results in broken infoboxes.
In the end we are talking about maybe 20+ templates and 10+ modules for each Wiki, and more to come for every new language translated to, and being able to use the Special:Import tool on various Wikis would be a great boon. I would like to have global sysops because it would enable me to work with this project in the long term, not only up until the IEG has run its course. Global sysops is the only reasonable way I can do so, and I’m giving it a shot hoping you can put your trust in me. The work would primarily be in maintenance of these smaller Wikis and helping other editors as well as translators get acquainted with templates and modules that can be used on Wikipedia.

  • Oppose Oppose You are certainly not qualified for this role. You have previously been directed to how to undertake the tasks that you wish to undertake, and that guidance didn't include the global sysop role. At this time you are demonstrating that you are not understanding. Once you are familiar with the communities, you may wish to apply for a local adminship. To import templates from other wikis, there will be the requirement to configure the importation access (if not already done) and that requires bugzilla requests. If these small wikis require assistance or the creation or editing of protected files, then they should lodge a request at Steward requests/Miscellaneous and someone will attend to it.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:56, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Billinghurst I am aware of the ways in which requests can be made, and I have come into contact with several local wiki administrators, and also contacted global wiki administrators, so I don't agree on what you say about not understanding. My request for global sysop is not based on the assertion that there is no other way to fulfill the role, but rather that I believe there is benefit to Wikipedia in having these roles filled out by me through sysop access.
As for your concerns about qualifications I can not do more than present what I have, although I find there is little to define what a highly trusted user is, except in seeing older requests, where I do not feel I fall extremely short. Therefore it is slightly disheartening to be told I am certainly not qualified. I still believe I can fill this role well, and I have a real drive to see smaller language Wikis develop. The qualification for global sysop states "Global sysops are highly trusted users with a strong track record of cross-wiki contributions that have sysop privileges on most public wikis, for the purposes of antivandalism and routine maintenance. They are not users with sysop tools on all wikis and they have no extra editorial control over content or the local community." With the extra component the purpose. So while I understand your good intent, it is not the purpose of the right. Again, what you are seeking is a local admin right, through community approval. Okay, I guess I'll have to go through each Wiki one by one then. Thanks for the help anyway. I was under the impression that the work I intended to do would fall under routine maintenance, but I stand corrected.

I would most certainly not import the templates and modules indiscriminately, but one Wikis where there is content to make use of the templates and modules. The type of content we are working to translate at en:WP:MED/RTT & en:WP:MED/RTT simple CFCF (talk) 12:41, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for User:TpTEditor

Status:    Not done

I am blocked due to an "open proxy" block by DeltaQuad. My proxy is +174.36.46.108. I am the editor for the website Teachers Pay Teachers and need to be able to make updates to our Wikipedia page. I apologize in advance if I'm going about this incorrectly, I sincerely only need access to the Teachers Pay Teachers Wikipedia page. I do not edit other pages and never have., thanks, Nicole aka TpTEditor

If you blocked by somethign that DQ has done, then that is due to something done at English Wikipedia, and nothing that stewards can do can override that block. You should read w::Wikipedia:UTRS and follow that instruction.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:01, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Any global IP exemption will not circumvent enWP's local block, and as the user is wishing to edit enWP, there is no need to grant a global IPBE, it is ineffectual.  — billinghurst sDrewth 14:05, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Global editinterface for Matma Rex

Status:    Done

As a MediaWiki developer working primarily on JavaScript, I find more and more often that I need to make simple fixes to gadgets on various wikis using deprecated features, or update such gadgets copied from another place to the most recent version.
