movement of Permission to edit or submit to Wikimedia projects from another editor's userspace

Could an admin please move an essay from userspace, not mine, into mainspace, or let me know how to do it myself? I originally wrote the essay for Commons but it probably belongs in Meta instead (per the last undeletion review, "Meta might be a better project for it."). I tried moving it myself but couldn't, I've asked at the first editor's essay's talk page for movement, the editor who asked for the essay to be undeleted into userspace appears to have consented in advance to the prospect of movement ("I doubt I'll get around to trying to integrate it into Meta, but if someone else would like to, that would be welcome.") and appears to edit only rarely, the editor who undeleted it appears to edit only in summers, neither one has edited in three months, and the essay is ready for movement. The essay is Permission to edit or submit to Wikimedia projects, located at User:JesseW/Permission to edit or submit to Wikimedia projects. Thank you. re-request

I can't do it myself, because it's a move from another user's userspace. I just tried twice again, but the last refusal said, "New users moving others' user and user talk pages". I've contributed to Meta for seven years but this is a move from another user's userspace, although, as discussed above, apparently supported in advance by that editor. The Help page didn't have any advice on point. Could someone please move the essay and its talk page and both their histories/diffs? Thank you kindly. Grammar check in central notice

It was indeed published. However, as per discussion directly below, there has been a change in the banner's text. The sentence "Survey data handled by Qualtrics" has been changed to "Survey data handled by a third party". So, all translations done before the change, including Ukrainian, are now reverted back to 'proofreading' status. Yes, the discussion and the relevant change to the text happened later. Which is why the translation done at the time is no longer showing. Re: Survey powered by Qualtrics

In the harassment survey banner, "Survey powered by Qualtrics" looks like advertising, while the purpose is to inform about privacy policy. The problem is that the link label is not descriptive. Pete, as for the more verbose version, I'm not sure it's more descriptive. The only real content of the privacy policy is that data is sent to USA, which means the user effectively waives any right they might have.[1] My favourite version would be "Survey data sent to a USA corporation" but that might be perceived as undue weight! @Mike Peel: To be honest, I don't know how to pull up a rendered version of the banner, so I hope I didn't mess it up too badly. It seemed like a straightforward change. @Nemo bis: I understand your points, and am willing to follow more specific direction; but I'm not sure I have a better suggestion myself. Some version of your last suggestion might work, but it's a substantial change and I'd want to see stronger consensus around it before making such a change myself. My own suggestion was more minor; it was based on giving the reader a clear indication that a privacy policy is the thing that would be linked to; from what I had read here and on the page, I had expected it to be Qualtrics' main page. The privacy policy does seem like a more informative kind of page to send the reader to, but it's only useful if the reader has a reasonable chance of guessing that's where they're being pointed. -Pete F (talk) 23:46, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

Sorry, but I still find this line problematic. We are linking to there commercial website, including all their header, with a bold links to create accounts. Itzike and ThurnerRupert, these comments make sense, but they are not quite specific enough for me to act on. If the following two things can be addressed, I think we can fix this:

  • What is the best English rewrite of the text? (Other languages welcome too, but let's at least start with one.)
  • What should a Foundation Wiki page be titled, and what is our authority to post there? I am happy to create a page there if I know it will not draw objections (from Qualtrix, from WMF, etc.) What is the basis for believing it can be posted there? Itzike, I believe that means that those answering the survey will not be informed that their information is being privately handed off to a third party, or what the terms of that agreement are. As of now I am not comfortable with that as an interim solution, and am not prepared to implement it. -Pete F (talk) 04:52, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
Itzike, to be clear: I do not oppose your suggestion, but as an admin I am not comfortable making that significant a change without some clear consensus that takes the various impacts into account. I am willing to make small changes to the text, if they improve it without negative side effects. And the WMF Wiki version makes sense to me, but I'm not clear on who can approve putting it there. Again, I can do it, but I would need permission from somebody at WMF, and I'm not sure who to ask. What staff ember is responsible for the survey, do you know? LuisV (WMF)? Mdennis (WMF), content need not be freely licensed to be published on the Foundation Wiki. It could potentially be posted there under Fair Use, or by a WMF assessment that there is zero probability that Quantrics would object or litigate, or by explicit consent from Qualtrics. As Itzike has pointed out, under the current setup, it is not possible to learn how Qualtrics will use one's data, without giving them data (via Facebook cookies and the like on their site).  Hello, Pete F . :) I've spoken to legal, and they tell me that this is not possible for a number of reasons - not only copyright. The link has to be to the privacy policy as hosted by Qualtrics. It's okay to not name the third party, they say, but the only way to really warn people that following the link takes them to an external site is to say so. It would be fine to include a parenthetical notation of such - such as ""Survey data handled by a third party (please see [link their site for their privacy policy])". The original language, as I understand it, was hoping to avoid being overly wordy, but if longer text eliminates confusion then it's worth it. Hi all - I'm seeing a couple of thing here to capture what we've learned for future surveys. The first is make sure to include contact information somewhere for banners/surveys (I'm surprised this is not already easy to find out). The second is identifying language that we can use since we are required to link to external survey service privacy policy. Is this accurate? I am happy with the current language, and those who are not have not offered an alternative (besides removing it from the banner entirely -- and at least to me, the reasons why that won't work are persuasive). The additional point I would make is, when finalizing a contract with a survey vendor, it should be requested that they permit the text of their privacy policy (along with the name of the firm and a link to their web site) to be published on the Foundation Wiki. The Orwellian "you must unknowingly give us data via tracking cookies, in order to learn how we will use your data" may be normal in the wider world, but it is something Wikimedia should stand firmly against in our practices. -Pete F (talk) 22:57, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

Having researched into this, I didn't see any discussion about including Dutch Wikipedia in an event that's targeting Asian languages Wikipedias, so they're rightly to be excluded. But I'll just ask @Shizhao:, @AddisWang:, and @永続繁栄: first. ✒ Bennylin 15:51, 16 November 2015 (UTC)
Personal but this page shows a consensus towards deleting the project page. The central notice failed CentralNotice/Usage guidelines in the first place so I am not the one who has to seek consensus to remove it. The person who approved it needs to provide evidence that there is consensus for this central notice. The organisation knew that the Dutch community didn't participate when the project page was nominated for deletion. They also never ever started a local discussion about this project.
Projects are coordinated carefully at the Dutch Wikipedia, picking times and dates and breaks in between so that they (the people who organise then) don't exhaust the community with banners, notices etcetera and this central notice banner is ruining that. Plus there isn't even a Dutch translation which means a lot of people won't even understand the central notice. Natuur12 (talk) 16:00, 16 November 2015 (UTC)
It seems that as long as the banner is translated in a new language, it was deployed, including some European language wikis listed in Wikipedia_Asian_Month#Participating_Communities ("Communities" in this page only require 1 editor/translator?). A little bit rushed, but I believe none of them acted in bad faith. Judging from the link that you gave, other Dutch editors have voiced their concerns regarding the machine-translated project page also, therefore I would say that the banner should be disabled in nl.wp. ✒ Bennylin 16:19, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

Harassment consultation 2015 in Swedish

Please delete Trakasserisamhälle 2015, the present Swedish title of the page looks like a big "harassment"-hoax in itself. If the user who created the page claims to know at least basic understanding of Swedish, he/she should be blocked for vandalism! Move Soft redirect/be-x-old to Soft redirect/be-tarask with suppress redirect

Please help to move Soft redirect/be-x-old to Soft redirect/be-tarask with suppressing redirect. Unfortunately, 'suppressredirect' right is not given to translation admins...

Proposed process:

  1. unmark Soft redirect (remove from translation) on Special:PageTranslation
  2. move to Soft redirect/be-tarask with suppressing redirect
  3. revert last edit in Soft redirect and mark for translation again

Change CentralNotice

@PiRSquared17 and Matiia:

In the context of Commons:European_Science_Photo_Competition_2015 there is a Centralnotice that was set centrally. We've found that the design and the wording of the banner and the landing page do not make easily aware to the readers that the contest is also run in Greece. We had asked for another banner to replace the global one, but while it seems that it is active (?), the previous one (global) is also active and has priority. Please stop the common centralnotice and make sure that the one we asked is visible. We have only 5 days left until the end of the contest... -Geraki TL 11:13, 25 November 2015 (UTC)

Requesting upload rights

Hello, I would like to request upload rights in order to upload graphs and screenshots related to research projects. I created a {{WMF-staff-upload}} template for this purpose. If there is a better licensing template to use, let me know. (FWIW, I'm an admin on Commons via my volunteer account, so I won't be uploading any copyvios.) I realize that I could upload most of these images to Commons instead, but many of them are only useful within the context of research project reports here on meta. To clarify my support vote, I have no strong opinion about whether such files should go on Meta or on Commons, but I don't think a technical obstacle to a reasonable and knowledgeable volunteer or WMF staff member is a useful enforcement mechanism.         • The comment of yours above seems to me that you're suggesting to disregard our opinions because they don't suit you all, which if true, is worrying. The discussion is already happening here, and if the job is not being done is because the files ain't uploaded to Commons where they should be if they're appropriately licensed and credited (I see they already are so what's the problem?). There are some files here that we might need to store locally because of the disputed GFDL-presumed status, but anything else should be moved to Commons, and as Theo said, we've been discouraging local uploads since a long time already. Change CentralNotice, part two

Could someone please fix the grammar error in the CentralNotice for Asian Month? The banner reads "The Wikipedia Asian Month is ending soon, please report your contributions before it ends." Note the comma splice; the comma needs to be replaced with a semicolon, or the sentence needs to be split into two sentences. Nyttend (talk) 21:54, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
