Halló Nike! Thanks for maintaining Nuka-Wiki and Golem and for all the help provided. I was searching a bug but I could see that the main issue with nested template is not to use parameters outsite the environment where they are defined. (See also: examples)
I will rewrite some of / most of / all the navigation templates next weeks to have a better readability. I spend the whole night with this sh*t. Best regards Gangleri | Th | T 08:12, July 14, 2005 (UTC)

Crimean Tatar interface translation[edit]

Hello!

I'm from the community of Crimean Tatar wikipedians. We have now finished the translation of the MediaWiki interface. The translation was done not using the Nike Wiki, but offline, so I now have two text files with intercface: MessagesCrh_lat.php and MessagesCrh_cyr.php (for Crimean Tatar in Latin and Cyrillic script). Could you please explain what shall I do with them? Pathoschild advised me to ask your help. Don Alessandro 14:47, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you don't plan to maintain them using Betawiki, you could post them to the bugzilla and let someone commit them. – Nikerabbit 17:19, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Translator, We need you![edit]

Dear Nikerabbit,

You have helped us in previous years with translations and for that we are most grateful. Now we turn towards the 2011/12 fundraiser. It may seem forever away, but work has already begun getting everything ready to go. This year we want to have landing pages covering as many countries in as many languages as possible.

Right now, we want to figure out who is interested in translating for the fundraiser. This year we're hoping to have more of a solidified "core" group of translators that we can count on to have work done by a few key dates, but we'd also welcome help from people who are willing to just help out when they can.

If you would be interested please take a look at this little sign-up survey and fill it out http://survey.wikimedia.org/index.php?sid=13638&newtest=Y&lang=en. With that we can start building a list of people and filling any gaps in the languages we serve.

Many Thanks

I saw some comments by you on some old bug about storing word inflections and what not in MediaWiki for Wiktionary/OmegaWiki and, well, you're the expert here, so maybe you could give some super-high level idea here? Cheers, Nemo 22:04, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you are invited to the GSoC / OPW IRC AllHands meeting on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 15:00 UTC (8:30pm IST, 8am PDT) at #wikimedia-office. We have done our best finding a time that works decently in as many timezones as possibles. Please confirm at qgil(_AT_)wikimedia.org so I can add you to the calendar invitation and I have your preferred email for other occasions. If you can't make it's fine, but let me know as well. We have left a notice to all students, but your help is welcome making sure yours is aware about it. Thank you!--Qgil (talk) 20:31, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your global editinterface rights[edit]

Hello, Nikerabbit. According to our records, you were last granted the global interface editor permission on 16 August 2012. We require all interface editors not using the right for WMF staff purposes to be reconfirmed to hold the right each year. Therefore, you will need to file a request to retain your rights at m:SRGP, or your right will be removed within one week. If this is in error, please let us know. Thanks, Rschen7754 22:20, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I believe this is in error. This one was not granted with an expiry. --Nemo 22:10, 9 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Per Interface editors, the expiry is one year. If this was granted explicitly for WMF staff purposes, then there would be no expiry, but this does not appear to be the case. --Rschen7754 00:54, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That's just a proposal. PiRSquared17 (talk) 01:07, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it is what stewards have been doing for all the holders of this right, so it is only fair that we do so here too. The right has been constructed to allow people to help the stewards, and it is managed by stewards, much like global rollback and global sysop. --Rschen7754 01:29, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I talked with James Alexander, and the rights were not for staff purposes. Due to the new WMF rules regarding staff accounts, he would need to receive staff rights on a WMF account anyway. I will be removing the rights, but Nikerabbit is free to reapply at SRGP. --Rschen7754 19:12, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your admin status[edit]

Hello. I'm a steward. A new policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, etc.) was adopted by community consensus recently. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing administrators' activity on wikis with no inactivity policy.

You meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no log actions for 2 years) on yiwiktionary, where you are an administrator. Since yiwiktionary does not have its own administrators' rights review process, the global one applies.

If you want to keep your rights, you should inform the community of the wiki about the fact that the stewards have sent you this information about your inactivity. If the community has a discussion about it and then wants you to keep your rights, please contact the stewards at m:Stewards' noticeboard, and link to the discussion of the local community, where they express their wish to continue to maintain the rights, and demonstrate a continued requirement to maintain these rights.

We stewards will evaluate the responses. If there is no response at all after approximately one month, we will proceed to remove your administrative rights. In cases of doubt, we will evaluate the responses and will refer a decision back to the local community for their comment and review. If you have any questions, please contact us on m:Stewards' noticeboard.

Best regards, Rschen7754 05:27, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Käännöstyökalu[edit]

Hei, osaatko sanoa miksei Tech-newsejä käännettäessä tuo työkalu automaattisesti ehdota ("Ehdotukset") tuolle alimmaisena olevalle tekstille (Tech news prepared by...) käännöstä historiasta? Muille aiemmin käännetyille teksteille kyllä tarjotaan automaattisesti suomennosta, mutta jostain syystä tuolle ei koskaan, joten se pitää aina mennä itse kopioimaan aiemmasta käännöksestä. --Stryn (talk) 20:25, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Olen huomannut saman. Ehkäpä &nbps;n takia muodustuu liian pitkä sana, jota se ei edes yritä hakea. Joka tapauksessa käännösmuistin tausta vaihtunee muutaman kuukauden kuluessa, joka saattaa vaikuttaa asiaan. --Nikerabbit (talk) 20:35, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Tämä tuli korjatuksi bugzilla:67921, mutta nyt käännösmuistilla on jo muita ongelmia. --Nikerabbit (talk) 10:09, 31 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ready for translation: VisualEditor News #2—2015[edit]

Hi! This is an invitation to join translators working on the April's issue of the VisualEditor monthly newsletter, which will be widely delivered towards the end of next week. The previous bulletin was published in 26 languages—the translation was completed only for ten of them. Will we do better this month? We'd like to reach many more communities in their own language this time, as VE recently became the main editor at other 50+ Wikipedias, and we're announcing interesting developments (auto-fill features for citations, improved special character inserter, drag and drop for categories, invisible templates now marked by a puzzle piece icon, and more). Thanks a lot for your help! Elitre (WMF) 22:38, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

PS: Here are some instructions. Please go to the translation page: your language should be available from the drop-down menu on the right. Once you've selected it, you'll see the document in English side by side with any translation work already done in your language. You can add new translations or modify existing ones. If you need further help or would like to change the page where you're notified of future translations, please contact me directly.

Hi! This is an invitation to join translators working on the June's issue of the VisualEditor multilingual newsletter, which will be widely delivered at the end of this workweek. You may have noticed that the bulletin is now getting published once every two months more or less, but we're keeping the length manageable ;) Thanks a lot for your help! — Elitre (WMF) 17:41, 8 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

PPS: Also, watch out for announcements of the upcoming VE-translathon! Everybody getting this message will be particularly welcome to join that activity during Wikimania.

Early invitation: join VisualEditor's 2015 Translathon[edit]

Hello!

You are invited to join the 2nd edition of the VisualEditor Translathon! It is a translation rally, focused on interface messages and help pages related to VisualEditor.

In order to participate, you need to sign up on the Translathon page. The top 3 contributors will each win a Wikipedia t-shirt of their choice from the Wikipedia store.[1] Translations made between July 15th and July 19th (CDT time zone) qualify.[2]

If you are attending Wikimania Mexico this year, you are also welcome to join a related sprint during the Hackathon in Workplace 1 - Don Américo, Thursday 16 July at 4:00 p.m (CDT) at the conference venue, so you can meet other fellow translators and get support if you need some.

Interface messages have the priority. You will need to create an account at translatewiki.net in order to work on them, if you don't have one. It is recommended to create the account ASAP, so that it can be manually confirmed in time.

You can also help translate documentation pages about VisualEditor on mediawiki.org. You can use your Wikipedia account there. You will find instructions, links and other details on the Translathon page.

Thanks for your attention, and happy translating! Elitre (WMF) 02:59, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  1. You can choose between any short-sleeve shirt, or other items for the same value.
  2. This means both new translations, and updates for messages in the "Outdated" tab of the translation interface.

A question about Translate[edit]

Hi, also @Nemo bis and Siebrand:. I became tired of marking pages for translation after some vandalism is reverted, the page contains the same text as in the last version marked, but is now unmarked. As the extension does not do it automatically, I've decided that I will write a bot which would regularly mark such pages for translation when revering user doesn't (and in other cases when there are unmarked changes while top marked version's hash is the same as in the topmost revision). I did not find what API I can use to get pages currently pending marking, nor to get the top marked revision. Without those it would be rather difficult to do the comparison. I did not find Translate tables replicated on Labs, nor Translate related records in logging table. The only thing I could think of was to scrap Special:PageTranslation which is a bad idea, but if there is no better way… Am I overlooking something (in particular in logging table) or there is really no way to query the pieces of data needed? If it is so, is there any of them that could be added? The perfect option would be if the Extension handled the situation on its own. --Base (talk) 01:18, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

All your observations and suggestions make sense and I encourage you to file those in Phabricator. There is the page translation log but I am not sure if it gives you the information you need. –Nikerabbit (talk) 06:34, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I need the help of a translationadmin in moving a page[edit]

Dear NikeRabbit, How is your day going? I don't mean to take so much of your time. I raised a hand for help on Babylon's Talk and would be so lucky to have you help out.

Thank you Danidamiobi (talk) 14:26, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like your issue was resolved already. I don't participate in translation admin activities here. My rights are mostly for testing as I have been responsible for developing the functionality. Nikerabbit (talk) 12:27, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
